They have been paying into Gazprom bank in Russia. Gazprom now converts to rubles. So Russia now have access to their money unlike before where EU countries pay into Gazprom Bank in their various countries and freeze the account.. Russia has bypass the sanction. Even UK has reversed the sanction against Gazprom Bank in UK.. Don't just belive every story from western media..have you seen the current ruble to dollar rate..

But a lot of people make it seem like there's another EU-size market ready to consume Russian gas to European countries, assuming Putin pulls the plug. Russia's economy largely depends on energy-trading. Putin has already started accelerating Europe ultimate aim of fending themselves off Russia gas.

There might not be Euro size market to consume Russias Gas.. But there is surely no Euro size Supplier to replace Russia either and at such ridiculous price that Russia is offering to EU..

Simple matter: Who would buy those excess gas Russia refused to sell to Europe? All the countries you mentioned, are they not already buying what their capacity needs from elsewhere?

The fact of the matter is Russia's economy is heavily dependent on SELLING Energy and its derivatives to more industalized countries in Europe. Cutting supplies will hurt Europe no doubt, but it will hurt the Russian economy much more.

German and French ministers have said no way they're paying in rubles. Let's see if Putin has the balls to cutoff Europe and lose potential Billions of dollars needed to finance his war machine.

who will sell the Gas they refuse to buy from Russia to them and at what cost? Remember Opec does not have plans to increase supply.. And why are they still buying their Gas since they are sanctioning Russia.. Infact since the sanctions started, EU have bought 15% more gas in March from Russia than in February.

They'd only face the hardship for a few days. it's not about increasing the supply to EU.. The real question is "at what cost", Russia Gas is very cheap, gas from any other source will be more than 2 times expensive. That will put EU at a disadvantage position economically because cost of production by EU factories will increase. How do you then compete with products from China and other Asian countries by price.. Tomorrow is the deadline, if Putin doesn't change his mind, Europe will likely have no option than to pay in roubles.. They are lucky its not winter..

Putin cannot just wake up to unilaterally change a signed contract agreed by all parties. The contract states Russia gas would be paid for in Euros and NOT in rubles. Russia will be dragged to Court of Arbitration for resolution.

2) The creditors wait for the sanctions to be over."

otherwise, the creditors are westerners, the sanctioned account is also in the west, let the western government payoff their citizens from the sanctioned account.

Russia can print rubble and pay rubble if they don't have access to their reserve to pay their western creditors. Any western creditor that doesn't accept it will wait until the sanction is off.
