A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has sentenced the Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company, Mr Osagie Okunbor, and two other top officials of the oil firm to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour for contempt. The other two officials convicted by the court are Nike Onyilola, who is the SPDC Secretary and Head of Legal Department; and Keibi Atemie, who is the Deputy Country Head of Legal/Managing Counsel, Global Litigation, Sub-Sahara Africa. Delivering judgement on Tuesday in Suit Number PHC/1929/2018, the presiding judge, Justice George Omereji, said the three persons were convicted for refusing to obey a court order in 2008 instructing them to forfeit land where Bonny Crude Oil terminal was located. The court order, according to Justice Omereji, was given 10 years ago by Justice Margaret Opara of the Rivers State High Court. https://punchng.com/shell-md-two-others-jailed-for-disobeying-court-order/ |

The minister was not in the car when the shots were allegedly fired. The FCT Police Command on Monday in Abuja confirmed that gunmen fired shots at the car of the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah in Abuja. The spokesperson of the command, Altine Daniel, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Friday. She added that the minister was not in the car when the incident took place. Ms. Daniel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, said that the incident was reported to the police on Monday at about 5:30 p.m. According to her, some metal objects were found in the vehicle which do not look like the conventional bullet. “The objects will be subjected to ballistic test,” she said. According to her, investigation into the incident has begun. Also confirming the shooting, the Special Adviser to the minister, Joe Obi, said that the attack took place at the Ministers’ Hill, Maitama in Abuja. “Fortunately, the minister was not in the car at the time the attack took place. “An official report has been made to the police and the police are currently investigating it,” Mr. Obi said. Mrs. Oduah has been in the news recently over her roles in the controversial inflated purchase of two bullet proof cars by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, for N255 million; with many Nigerians calling for her sack and prosecution. President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday confirmed that he had received the report of a three-man committee set up to probe the role of the minister in the scandal. OK i get it,they wanted to DO THE NEEDFUL ![]() |

The father of Chelsea captain John Terry will stand trial in November accused of shouting racists comments during an incident in the City of London on March 22. Ted Terry, 59, was charged with two racially-aggravated counts earlier this month. London Magistrates' Court was told Terry allegedly yelled "f***ing Paki" and "black c***" during the incident and is also accused of assaulting Amarjit Talafair. Terry pleaded guilty to the assault charge but his lawyer John Oliver said the basis of the plea was that there was no racially aggravated element to the offence. The Crown did not accept these pleas. The case was adjourned and the magistrate fixed a two-day trial at the Magistrates Court starting on November 11.Two other men also face trial over the same incident. http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/224087.html?CMP=OTC-RSS It seems it runs in the family. . . |

Went to pay my PHCN prepaid bill and found out that the fixed charge was #700 instead of the usual #500. The lady at the help desk could not give any satisfactory answer. Thinking aloud, is it that the charge was increased without public knowledge? Or am i the one that is out of touch? |

Nine players fail age-test scans at African U-17 tournament Nine players have been kicked out of the African Under-17 Championship in Morocco after wrist scans showed them to be over the age limit. Three players each from Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Nigeria have been banned from playing any further part in the competition. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was used to scan the wrist plate of players to accurately ascertain their true age. Birth certificates are often either inaccurate or unavailable. The players to have been excluded are Congo's Cherlevy-Diabala Carim, Hardy Binguila and Bermagin Kangou, Ivory Coast's Dagou Britto, Abdul Diarrassouba and Siriki Dembele, and Nigeria's Onyinye Ndidi, Ibrhaim Abdullahi and Emmanuiel Asadu. All three countries' squads have been reduced to 18 players. After Congo and Ivory Coast played out a 1-1 draw in their opening match in the tournament, both coaches reacted to the loss of their players - each taking an opposing view of how their teams would be affected. Congo coach Basile Ekariki said: "The absence of three players dropped after the MRI test does not affect us too much. The players are almost all from our national training centre and therefore used to play together. This is really a united group with lot of solidarity among all. But Ivory Coast coach Ibrahim Kamara admitted: "There is no doubt that the failure of three players at MRI test is going to affect our side but we're here to build on our good run in this competition." Football's world governing body, Fifa, first began researching the use of MRI technology in 2003 but only started to conduct tests at the U-19 World Cup in Nigeria. Results from U-17 World Cups in 2003, 2005 and 2007 revealed that up to 35% of players were over-age. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22152016 |
