Nope. Its not like 'filling a bucket with water then dropping ice into it.
See, iceberg is already in the water now! Abi, did it broke off from space?
It has already displaced it weight in the water. Melting wouldn't be addition of water except, of course, of we consider the effect on glaciers which are not in the ocean already.
There is need to take global warming seriously but the exaggeration of facts by scientists can sometimes be a turn off and counterproductive.

I'll say you're wrong sir, like you said did the ice break from space? No but there's a whole continent called Antarctica normal continent oo just like Africa but has this huge ice covering it like 50-100ft tall, small small the ice dey slide into the ocean and it stores over 50% of the whole planets fresh water. Same as we have on Greenland too o.

Global warming too, as the water dey warm up, the molecules they expand and dey need more space so we get high SL

I appreciate the fact that you're taking climate change seriously.

The Larsen C is a sign of much more worse things to come. Although it might not have a significant impact on sea level as it's already present in the sea, but it's main job is to protect the hundreds of thousands Sq km of land based glaciers stored on Antarctica from sliding into the ocean thereby leading to a significant increase in sea level but that's still not the biggest contributor to sea level rise.

The biggest contributor to SLR is "Thermal Expansion" as climate change intensifies the sea water warms up and tries to take more space so the ocean basin expands. Lots of of big cities will be affected but funny enough, not just lagos but the Niger Delta is also at a greater risk

To those who who believe it's nature, yes it's true it has happened a lot of times in the past and still tend to happen but at this rate, we make it even go much faster. And as humans we will try our best to slow it to the barest minimum or even reverse the course (perhaps the dinosaurs kept doing their thing till they got wiped off grin)

There will always be skeptics but if people had listened to them then nothing would have been invented. I wonder why most skeptics always post on websites and not accepted science research webs.

So happy a lot of people are conscious of what's going on with the planet and for the thread to even reach page 8.

And lastly to that Ednut guy and his Uncle Donald, the dinosaurs are patiently waiting.

I thought they told us they were taking their WAEC exams when they were kidnapped

So, they went back to high to Jss 1 when they got to the USA ??

Believe the APC zombies at your own risk

They were 18, writing their high school final exams in Nigeria when they were kidnapped, they got to the USA and started as freshmen

Let me tell you something, you can't be above 18 and still in high school in the USA, it's a crime to be above 18 and in high school in the USA, it will get you locked up in prison

In Texas you can till you're 25 but most schools will rather place you in a non-conventional high school setting but still get your diploma, differs from each state
Politics / Re: How Lagos May Be Underdeveloping The Rest Of Nigeria - Ynaija by shuni05: 11:33pm On May 21, 2017
aribisala0:

This is nonsense really.

We are now in 2017 what was the last major Project the FG executed in Lagos State. 3rd Mainland Bridge which was comissioned in 1991 the same year they moved to Abuja.

The claim that any governor will perfor in Lagos is not only absurd it is daft.
Since 1999 Lagos state has borrowed extensively and is now the most indebted state owing over $1 billion in foreign debt not to mention local . Lagos state leadership is probably the only one that its citizens will trust to borrow like that because they can see where the money goes

We are talking not of infrastructure only but ideas

The BRT
Public deefender scheme
Communinty Developent Association cascading
Waste Management schemes

Remember the Ebola outbreak?

Strategic thinking in developing the Lekki Free Trade zone and others
Ikordu road in the 90s was a two lane road today we have a six lane motorway built by the State Government from Mile 12 to Ketu.

So please stop attributing this to the FG . Lagos has a huge population like Kano but Lagos is more creative in taxing its people and because it is so small( Nigerr State is 22 times its size) it can afford to concentrate its infrastructure spend

I understand your point, it's was pretty obvious the joke about anyone running Lagos. I don't deny the fact that brilliant ideas brought in since 1999 has rapidly developed Lagos which is full of potential. Where I woukd disagree with you is the fact that FG's presence in Lagos didn't play a big role. It set Lagos Lagos on its path though at some point it was abandoned at it took the Leaders to restore it. They've really done a massive job. I remember growing up in the neighboring state, dreams of most kids my age was to work hard and get a job in Lagos. vacation in Lagos was like a dream come true, seeing skyscrapers, bridges, planes, ships. It has always had this allure, why? Due to the development it had seen compared to other states.

How I wish other governors can be as smart thinking as the ones we have in Lagos and not wait for the FG because they only have eyes on Abuja.

It beats my imagination when egg heads compare Lagos and states like Akwa Ibom. People involve in such needs rethink. Had Lagos developed at the pace Akwa Ibom and other younger states are Lagos would have been our California. No state government has abused power more than those of Lagos but the FG presence had been a big cover up.

Why won't Lagos judiciary system be better when the seat of Justice had been in Lagos for a long time until literally moved to ABJ. Why can't Ambode repair bridges already built by FG.

BF had been tagged to be extraordinary gov while in Lagos and even castigating FG in power then but today he's lost as a minister only to be baptized "minister of darkness" - why can't he do the magic.

If a state like akwa ibom gets 1/10 of FG presence Lagos has, it would be on record that Lagos has no brains. For those who may not bother to research, most companies had sited their HQ in Lagos just for sake of nearness to where policies were formulated (IT was not available as it is today ) and availability of resources like airports, seaports, embassies, infarct commercial hub for cheaper and easier business purposes as these transactions were basically manual in nature. Issues of insecurity is secondary as things like militancy just cropped in due to inability of FG to harness the situation.

Believe it or yes, FG presence in Lagos for decades is a spring board for development in Lagos. Abuja is already outsmarting Lagos in terms of town planning, road networks, etc because ABJ is built in an era of modern industrialization. In no time, we wud be hearing that Govs in ABJ have never stolen. Lagos has no excuse not to develop infarct the space of development in Lagos is sluggish because the never had/have smart government to consummate opportunities available to them during the 100% presence of the FG

Nice one bro, all I've been saying to my friends when they bring up this topic. If each state got what Lagos got. I'll bet some states might actually be doing better than Lagos right now.

However, I feel the Government is making the same mistake all over again and will result in Nigeria having another "Lagos". Concentrating your development on just Abuja leaving the rest of the country to develop itself. Compare DC to the rest of the US, a lot people won't know Geneve isn't the capital of Switzerland. If we model our country like this then we'll end up having just 2-3 good places where people will always wanna move to. I kind of envy the Germans, you'll do as good as someone in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg e.tc. because it's developed. I even heard the big cities are located at some specific distances from one another in other to develop others around.

On a more serious note, I think Lagos is more or else like "Guardiolas Barcelona", bring any coach (except Wenger) and they'll perform, compare other states to the rest in the league not matter how good your governor/coach is, they'll still be the shadows of Barcelona. grin grin grin

This isn't true. In the US, there are multi-billion dollar companies in every state. New York, California, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Florida all have tons of companies. Same as in China.

In Nigeria, every single company of note is headquartered in Lagos. Just the same way Nigeria has been a single commodity economy, it has also become a single state economy. Everything in Nigeria is unnecessarily centralized.

That's so true, "every single company of note is headquartered in Lagos", if it's not, you can easily make a guess or 2, Abuja or PH. In the US Ford is located in a tiny town of less than 100,000 people and GM in the same state but Detroit, Walmart is headquartered in one of the smallest cities in Arkansas. In Germany VW isn't in Berlin, Munich but in Wolfsburg, One of the Largest Amazon in world is in a small village in Germany employing thousands of people.

I had an American classmate and we talked about Jobs, she wasn't even looking at jobs in those big cities because she was so sure she would get what she wants in her little hometown. That's how it should be.

It is like writing a story in UK about an African social worker whose job it is to get get english young homeless English girls off the streets and into hostels; and writing a similar headline: "Youth Worker Anna Nwoye rescues four homeless teenage girls from a life of exploitation on the streets".
This shouldn't be news unless there is an dark agenda behind this and all the recent graphic pictures of death.

Perhaps it is part of an evil agenda to show the best of whites and the worst of ourselves.

Perhaps there is an imminent genocide to be perpetrated against us by whites, hence they can use all the graphic pics of murders, dumped new borns and accident victims, to desensitize us against their wickedness.

At these prices (which i acknowledge may be due to $ issues) you can't really expect to find customers.

And the Nigerian constitution supports brutalizing civilians on the street for breaking this law ? Isn't imprisonment different from been beaten up on the street

With Regards to what the Soldiers went through to put on the camo, I'll say it's such a silly thing to say because you need to remeber not the Nigerian Military goes to war, I've worked in American Military training faciltites and still these soldiers are excited to take pictures with you wearing a camo. They also fight Terrorist so whats special. Been in the Military should be something you're proud of and not an opportunity to brutalize fellow Nigerians just because you feel so powerful.

I think you're the one who has to Stop spitting boosit out of ur ignorant brain
DeBlessedOne:

Mumu! Stop spitting boosit out of ur ignorant brain. If u had any education atall, then u should be able to read the Nigerian constitution in regards to the subject.

Anyone who wears military outfit without being qualified to do so is at risk of being imprisoned and vehemently dealt with in the process.

And besides the constitution, do u know what those soldiers went tru to put on that camo? And some light brain civilian will just go and buy it and wear. Send those buffon civilians wearing camo into sambisa forest and watch dem run for their useless lives.

We have so many colors, shapes and sizes of cloths in the market. If u decide to wear camo, even if ur blind, deaf, cripples of even dead, u'll be dealt with and pity will be far from u.

It's so appaling how Nigerians still think, the guy clearly stated overbearing military aggression on helpless civilians. Clearly justifying the beating a fellow Nigerian because he broke the law seems to be a Norm. I'd like to see where its stated in the law that the Military should take the law up and beat up anyone who breaks the law

I find it demeaning when people on here call the OP a liar for posting his own experience, YES there is Racism and it's everywhere, just because you've lived there and married doesn't mean there aren't racists, maybe you only chose to ignore them or haven't witnessed it at its peak but am quite sure if you've lived there for long you would have or met people who have.

Even in big cities, I had my first big experience in Berlin of all places in Germany where we were pushed out of our Hotel and later got apologized to, after reading TripAdvisor reviews about them, I knew I shouldn't have stayed there. Or was it my friend's experience in the big city of Hamburg where a guy walked up to them right at the train station and called them Monkeys telling them to go back to their stinking Africa. Or was it my friend who was called a Monkey by his supervisor not knowing he understood German, he stopped working that day and management decided to pay him full for the day and offered apologies because they don't want problems. Another is my friend who got punched by an Eastern European because he doesn't like blacks (case still pending and we're waiting for settlement which is cash).

So Yes there is Racism everywhere but my view is that it's more common among white people who aren't so enlightened and probably haven't traveled far.

tossbal4real:
To all the Veterans in the house, this is me saying thank you and God bless you. I picked up my visa yesterday at the German embassy.

I was interviewed on the 4th of September and I sent a reminder email to the VO (the nice Chinese looking Lady) who interviewed me on the 30th. She replied with the usual Alien issue delay and I held my peace. On the 10th of October (My fifth week running) I felt led to send a reminder email to the VO basically to find out how far and to inform her that my lectures were starting on Monday the 13th and I had several deadlines to meet up with, to God be the glory she replied me saying my visa was ready to be issue and to come with the travel insurance and all.

To all those who are waiting for the good news, my prayer for you is that your expectation shall not be cut short.
To all freshers in the house, my suggestion would be that you read as much as you can on this thread and empower yourself with the adequate knowledge you need to succeed because knowledge indeed is power.
To all those who are currently facing one challenge or the other, nothing good comes easy. Trust in God and forge ahead because all these are just ingredients to make your story sweeter.

Wish you all the very best of God in your respective careers, let's make Nigeria proud and contribute our own quota to repairing the damaged image we have in the face of the international community because I believe in the New Nigeria that we would build; Good People, Great Nation.

Shalom!!!!
