Politics / Re: Stop Corrupt Nigerians From Contesting The April Election by shutmouth(m): 11:22am On Feb 15, 2007
Atiku's recent visit to USA and the UK was to evaluate his chances of seeking asylum on the bases that his political enemies are after him.

What he was not aware is that USA and UK no longer negotiate asylum with sitting Presidents or Vice-Presidents like they used to do in the past. Idi-Amin, Ojukwu, Gowon etc negotiated their exits.

USA and UK has had to take in loads of asylum seekers from Nigeria during IBB and Abacha era of which Atiku was part of the political system that drove many Nigerians to seek economic and political shelter abroad.

He has and continues to fool Nigerians and thinks he can fool Bush or Tony Blair.

He has nowhere to hide from EFCC. The showdown has just started. Atiku will rot in prison. It is better to give up the fight and reveal his source of wealth during his tenure in the Customs.

The West brought the woes to Africa through colonization and they are not yet done with Africa yet. Africa must tidy up their houses if they are to become free from debt and control by the West.

If I may ask, where are the loans Africans obtained from the West? Of course, in the hands and pockets of corrupt politicians.

It brings us to the issue of "war against corruption".

It's a vicious cycle.

You're right otokx,

Atiku is quite irrelevant, but he seems to be a wheel against the fight against corruption which is a disease that has afflicted the country to poverty causing many Nigerians like me to flee a country we so much cherish.

Rather than support the fight against corruption by accepting his indictment and proving his innocence, he is busy making public statements that shows he is an idiot, rogue and a bizarre fool.

He want to bypass the law and constitution and make himself lord over us. He should rather be setting good examples and bow out of politics until he can prove his innocence like most indicted politicians in Europe and USA do quite often in such circumstances.

Atiku is and will remain irrelevant to me as long as I live abroad and long to return to a decent country I call home.

Thanks Goggle,

To many Nigerians, these political events are new, to us in Europe, we see this everyday.

Indictment in Europe is a daily word, Today in Nigeria, the press and the people are beginning to find its definition.

This is the true democracy, the law for the people and by the people, not for/by a few criminal minded politicians.

Atiku has gone to court to bar the FG, INEC and EFCC from baning him and others. http://www.leadershipnigeria.com/product_info.php?products_id=921

Reading the contents of the case he filed, he accepts the fact that the constitution bars him as an indicted candidate but questions the panels set up by the FG. Who is he fooling other than the ignorant Nigerians.

It's time EFCC get on the heels of the court Judges, lest they take bribes as has always been the trend in Nigeria.

The game is up for Atiku and others! The war on corruption has just begun.

Breaking News: Those Indicted For Corruption Cannot Seek Elective Office!

The Nigeria's 1999 constitution outlaws those indicted for corruption and embezzlement of funds from seeking elective public positions.

Why the heck are those indicted screaming and calling OBJ and Ribadu bad names?
Are Nigerian politicians illiterate, ignorant, stupid or is it just an old way of doing things? Isn't the Constitution Supreme for Atiku and others?

Definitions of indict:

1). accuse formally, as in: The Grand Jury has enough evidence to indict him.
www.business-words.com/dictionary/I.html

2). accuse formally of a crime
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

3). In the common law legal system, an indictment is a formal charge of having committed a serious criminal offense. In those jurisdictions which retain the concept of a felony, the serious crime offense would be a felony; those jurisdictions which have abolished the concept of a felony often substitute instead the concept of an indictable offense, i.e. an offense which requires an indictment. ,

Breaking News: The move by the Federal Government to bar candidates allegedly indicted for corruption from contesting the April general elections yesterday received the backing of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Gani Fawehinmi who described it as constitutional.

Chief Fawehinmi said "the Federal Government is absolutely covered in what they have done. Once you are indicted for corruption or embezzlement by an Administrative Panel of Inquiry you are disqualified From being a candidate for election." He argued that such panel has constitutional backing adding that those who refused to appear before it did so at their peril.

According to him, "section 137 sub-section 1(1) of the 1999 constitution stipulates that "A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of president if he has been indicted for embezzlement or fraud by a Judicial Commission of Inquiry or an Administrative Panel of Inquiry or a Tribunal set up under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act… or any other law by the Federal or state Government which indictment has been accepted by the Federal or State Government respectively."

He said "candidates vying for governorships and National Assembly seats were barred under sectionals 182 and 66 of the Constitution respectively"

That is coming from an educated man". I hope these uneducated Nigerians will listen to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

Atiku and others who have been indicted must give up the stupid fight. Rather than thrashing OBJ and Ribadu or EFCC, they must try to clear their names, Unfortunately, it may take many months (or years) to do this as the EFCC still has a long way to conclude their criminal investigations.

Having left Nigeria for more than 20 years due to my disgust of the political system during IBB era, I am beginning to be proud of my beloved country once again.

Bravo, EFCC, Ribadu and OBJ, keep it up. (Don't mind those silly corrupt illiterate Bastards!!!)

The EFCC boss stated further that the uproar the list of indicted candidates generated could be understood as that has been the way Nigeria used to operate.

" You see, we have not seen something like this before in the history of this country where candidates are told by government security agency to forget contesting any political office because such an individual have criminal record. In other parts of the world, issue of morality alone is enough to disqualify any candidate but here that is not the case, yet we want to create a decent society."

He charged those challenging the anti-graft commission to go and take their time to read the statue establishing EFCC adding that indictment was done by an authorised security agency.

" The EFCC is perfectly in order. We have done the right thing. Look, change must occur but make no mistake that such a change will come that easy. No, it comes with pains especially if it affect some people. But we must get out of the present condition that we have been for sometime now. I have nothing personal against anybody."

Ribadu said that, because of his investigation of the Atiku, he had been declared a personal non-gratal in his state and country home.

" You know I’m from the same place with the Vice president and back home they call me a prodigal son because of this job and I don’t mind because with time I know they would understand. The Vice president is my brother but we must assist this country out of her dark days."

I am disgustingly ashamed to read these comments about OBJ and Ribadu. Typical Nigerian stuff.

In Europe where I have lived for many years, corrupt officials are booted out (resign) immediately their crimes appear in the press (seldom without court involvement). In Nigeria, the rogue politicians try to defend and intimidate to cover their acts.

In the West, any politician implicated of wrong doing is screened and punished by the parliament. In Nigeria, the politicians are so corrupt that they certainly cannot screen and punish each other, hence EFCC screening and punishments are good for the country.

Nigeria has to rid itself from corruption to develop and attract foreign investments. Right now, the West and foreign investors are keeping an eye on the 2007 election and also on the EFCC war on corruption championed by OBJ and Ribadu. The stability of Nigeria is of great importance to the West as political conflicts in Nigeria may destabilize the entire Africa especially fragile West Africa. Corruption is certainly the root causes of most conflicts in Africa as rogue politicians try to take control of the abundant natural resources.

Many of us Nigerians left the country (not just for economic reasons but to escape corruption and decaying social problems). Nigerians abroad have a good understanding of the wrongs in Nigeria and also have a clear idea on the solutions.

We all agree that all the politicians in Nigeria are corrupt, ALL with no exception. Any politician implicated in a corruption scandal should resign. OBJ and Ribadu have done a good job and Ribadu must continue to rid the country of corruption, AT ALL COST.

As Ribadu said, "the corrupt politicians steal from the treasury and use the money to enslave us". Since 1961, the amount stolen is more than the money spent in rebuilding Europe after the world war.

In the West, politicians spend the available resources on development projects that benefits the community such as schools, hospitals, medicines, technology, housing etc and in Nigeria, the wealthy politicians stack the money in foreign banks for their families and unborn generations. Rather than serve the people, they serve their pockets and families, driving flashy cars and living in posh houses in the midst of filth, poverty and rundown communities.

Atiku cannot justify making billions at Customs. In Europe, a Govt official in the same position would be living in a 3 bedroom apartment and cannot afford a car. IBB, I understand has properties in France. If I may ask, how many properties does Tony Blair or Bush have abroad,

Look, guys, the ball is in your court. Vote the man that has a good track record and not the ones that display richness or files suits in court to intimidate the masses.

Enough is enough!!!
