Just like every other investment,it has all tendency of appreciation or depreciation, but investors always like hearing the appreciation side of the story and not depreciation, but you must not forget that the 2 goes side by side.

When price falls,it is a good time to buy more unit so that when it picks it will be a good time to make good returns.
Thanks a lot, Afam, for the above. I invest in both d AGF and Discovery Fund, and like d other fellow said, I noticed some depreciation. I was even considering cancelling my account and investing all in stocks. But with your explanation, I'm even going to buy more units!!!

Anyway, i still need a good stockbroker. Any recommendations or advice would be very much appreciated.

Art, Graphics & VideoLagos Comics & Cartoons Carnival 2007 by shylle(op): 11:05pm On Oct 25, 2007
3rd LAGOS COMICS & CARTOONS CARNIVAL

LC3 is a unique event initiated and coordinated by Revolution Media and is geared towards raising the awareness and sensitivity of the public (especially the youths) towards the vast field of cartoons, comics and animation creation and publishing while adding a boost to the nation's reading and entertainment culture.

The first edition of LC3, held in September 2004, was a collaborative effort of 3 enterprising young men (who firmly believe that Nigeria is a fertile ground for the emergence of a richly rewarding and potentially booming comics pop-culture) facilitated by Evolution Media (now Revolution Media), Design Jockey Sessions and with support from CORA (Committee for Relevant Art) as a part of the 6th Lagos Book and Art Festival. LC3 '04 recorded considerable success, which points out the fact that there is huge potential for the emergence of a comics and cartoon industry.

This year, we plan to make LC3 '07 bigger and better than the last effort in September 2006. The event is slated to hold from 9th to 11th of November 2007 as a part of the 9th Lagos Book & Art Festival at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

Programme

The third installment of LC3 will have a high capacity building content with major focus on trainings and workshops for up coming creatives in the comics and cartoons trade. Participants in the training seminars and workshops will be drawn from secondary schools, higher institutions of learning, independent practitioners and practicing professionals in established advertising / media related agencies, newspaper houses, etc that could be interested in a refresher course of sorts. Facilitators will be drawn from a shortlist of highly skilled professionals and the sessions will be highly interactive.

The first two days of LC3 '07 will be dedicated to these workshops and seminars running alongside the exhibitions and sales while the third day will be dedicated fully to a multimedia exhibition of works by major players and emerging talents in the comics, cartoons, animation and motion graphics trade, which will dovetail into a dance party at the end of the event headlined by an 'A' list Disc Jockey. LC3 '07 is thus designed to cater for the multiple needs of exposition, networking, marketing and entertainment.

Day One (Friday 9th November 2007)

8:00 am – 9.00am: Participating exhibitors / collaborators set up their stands.

10:00 am – 10.30am: Official opening of the 3rd Lagos Comics & Cartoons Carnival.

10.30 am - 3.30pm: The 3rd Green Comic & Cartoon Strip Contest (Themed: Plant an idea, watch it grow). Organized in collaboration with Children And The Environment (CATE), and The Cartoonists Association of Nigeria, the Green Comic Strip contest is targeted at Secondary School Students between the ages of 13 and 20 years, the programme is geared towards young people who have a flair for writing and illustrating comics. Winning entries to the contest which would have been collated and judged will be awarded prizes and a workshop will be held for the children on how to create comics.

11.00 am – 6.00 pm Screening of short listed entries of animated short flicks will hold for older folks who are not engaged with the children. Participants will talk shop on the screened flicks and the talks will be moderated by leading lights in the industry.

Day Two (Saturday 10th November 2007)

8:00 am – 9.00am: Participating exhibitors / collaborators set up their stands.

10:00 am – 12.00 noon: Workshop on Animation with focus on 2D.

12:00 noon – 12.30 pm: Break / Interaction.

12.30 pm – 2.30pm: Workshop on Animation with focus on 3D.

2.30 pm – 3.00pm: Break / Interaction.

30.00 pm – 5.00pm: Workshop on Animation with focus on motion graphics.

5.00 pm – 6.00pm: Re-cap / Question & Answer session / presentation of certificates.

Day Three (Sunday 11th November 2007)

8:00 am – 9.00am: Participating exhibitors / collaborators set up their stands.

10:00 am – 3.00 pm: Screening of short listed entries of animated short flicks will continue and participants will talk shop on the screened flicks as was done on day one.

3.00pm – 6.00pm: Dance party / closing celebration with an 'A' list disk jockey on duty.

Collaborators

In achieving the set goals for LC3, and as a direct benefit of having done this before, we shall be facilitating this carnival in collaboration with front line creative art and graphics companies and individuals; some of whom we have collaborated with in the past, who will also exhibit their publications and artistic offerings.

Co-facilitators will include Children And The Environment (CATE), Design Jockey Sessions, Imperial Creation Studios, the Cartoonists Association of Nigeria amongst others.

The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), as in the past, shall provide a broad platform at the 9th Lagos Book and Art Festival at which LC3 can draw from a large pool of book and art enthusiasts.

Glossy Brochures branded by our sponsors and containing general history and information about the speakers and exhibitors at the carnival will be made available to participants and visitors to further aid the networking we hope to sustain.

For more information, please contact the undersigned.

We look forward to your active participation.

Yours Faithfully,

…………………………,

Well, the magazine is undergoing a repackaging, coming out with a new concept.
It would be quite presumptuous of me to disclose the concept it's coming out with.

It's a Lifestyle and society mag, is all i can say. For now sha.

Hi all,
A new magazine that I write for needs a graphics artist to work on contract basis. The mag comes out every two months, so it will be useless keeping a graphics artist in the house wasting away.

Top-notch design. We had a real cool guy who's just too busy these days.

Serious artists only. If your design isn't tight or u av no previous experience with mags, please keep off.

Send JPEGs of cover and one inner page of ur previous works. As many samples as possible maybe sent.

Fees negotiable on your terms, and ours too.

@last poster

Good question.

Money is a blindfold. And unfortunately, designers are always eager to show their stuff.

Why send evrything to his box? How do u then contact him later when ur design is gone?

For those who still want to go ahead and submit, put a huge watermark across ur designs that says "SAMPLE".

Or better still, send it in a thumbnail, with low resolution dat can't be used. If he thinks ur design is good enough, he'd get in touch.

Be careful o.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: A Designers Portfolio by shylle(m): 9:19am On Sep 12, 2007
@poster,
I'm some sort of critic, so here's what I think. (Fortunately, the criticisms I do are of the constructive type.)

1. I think you have a lot of flair with the tools you use: Photoshop (obviously from the brushes you use), and perhaps CorelDraw. Your 3D text abilities are also great.

2. (Spin-off of above) Knowing how to use a tool is not enough. Creativity has to be added. Questions u should ask urself include: what sets this design apart from others? Have I see stuff like dis before? What are other people doing?

3. (A spin-off of 2 above) To some extent, u seem isolated. Do u watch other designers? Do u take interest in dem? Do u see d works of ur contemporaries? Are there graphic designers around u who challenge u with their work? If not, then u're isolated, and dis is not so good. Inspiration and challenges come from seeing other designers, and if there are bad ones around u, then u'd suffer from the one-eyed-man syndrome.

4. Color. U seem to love color so much that it gets in ur way. Most of ur stuff are so colorful dat they are too colorful. Perhaps, it's time for u 2 break away from swatches and experiment with white. Try white backgrounds and use ur colors in d foreground. these days, white works wonders (www).

5. Fonts. From the works I've seen, ur seem to lack creative fonts. Some of d stuff u did might av been much more better if u had used certain fonts. A designer without a good font collection is in big trouble. Anything between one thousand and three thousand fonts is okay, provided there are lots of diverse and creative ones in there.

6. lastly, learn to let go. Design can sometimes be therapy. Breathe in, and exhale. Be easy on urself. Hold ur mouse like a painter holds his brush, and like the brush goes, move with flair. With design, learn to express before u impress. Express ur interpretation of the work, before u av it in mind to impress ur client. And above all, be subtle. Subtly works wonders.

7. One final thing: from a design, i can know the type of person d designer is. Ur colors and rowdiness points to some internal trouble. Is that so? You might want to resolve those issues inside u first, or put dem aside when u're designing.

Design is much more spiritual (not religious o). Ask the French.

Cheers.

(here's a site i think you should visit. http://www.thefwa.com It's actually a site dat showcases the best websites of each month, but the web designers are great graphics designers. Be warned though: these sites might intimidate u and make u despair in ur skills. But don't worry: always remember dat we are all constantly learning, and one day, we'd be just as good!)

I perfectly agree with family planning. I have no problems with that; I'm not going to have more than 3/4 kids myself.

I was just a little bothered about how you threw blames around. Sometimes, it's a big error to generalize, you know,

Anyway, let our generation beware: sire only kids you can take care of!
WebmastersRe: Dreamweaver Php Database Connection by shylle(m): 5:29pm On Sep 10, 2007
Well, I think your using IIS might be messing things up for you.

Php and MySQL work best with Apache and I don't see why you don't want to install Apache.

Get Apache, guy. Edit the httpd.conf file to put the php modules right, and everything would work fine.

Besides, why don't you want to do d hardcoding instead of Dreamweaver? Just five lines of code will connect you to ur database.

And dat's d best thing about web development. You can't get stuck. Answers are everywhere on the web. God bless google!

(If u need further help, I'd be glad to assist. Afterall lots of ppl helpd me too!)

FamilyRe: How Many Are U In Your Family? by shylle(m): 11:11am On Sep 10, 2007
@+osisi and sexyabby

8,9 and 10 kids by one family,haba!
No wonder oyibo people call us ignorant.
There are various ways of contraception, people should use it!
No wonder armed robbers are multipling at a rate we can't calculate
and our amenities can't support our population.
This is crazy.
That's a very rash and irresponsible thing to say! Are you insinuating that it's people with 8,9,10 people in their families that breed armed robbers? Are they the ones causing strains on the amenities? Are they the ones making society go all crazy? I don't think you meant all that. You must have hand one eye closed, one hand tied behind your back, or a part of your brain on recess when you said that.

Come on! And I'm quite surprised at you, Abby, for supporting that! Check your demographics: people from "scanty" homes are the ones who are at greater risk of problems (suicidal tendencies, psychosis, neurosis, and such). Children in large families turn out to interact with the society and their environment better; they don't sulk or hide in the rooms or want for playmates. But this is not the place or time to throw blames or insults around.

The fact is our fathers lived in a different generation, in which contraceptives weren't as common as they are today. Enlightenment on family planning only began some few years ago. So, would you blame families for being large? Definitely not. Going back to the African culture, families were known to be large, and our forefathers could take care of their families. People with one or two kids were at a greater risk of extinction, and I'm sure your forefathers owned large families else you probably won't be here.

Come on, pal, be real!

Celtel's Family and Friends is the coolest thing on the Celtel network.

If you ain't using it, then you're losing a whole lot of money!

It's roughly N12 per minute (21 kobo/sec) to make calls to d 5 people on your FaF list.

Problem is: most people don't know how to add numbers to their FaF list.

So here you go:

To add a number: *141*2*celtel_phone_number#

To delete a number: *141*3*celtel_phone_number#

To view your FaF list: *141*5#

Too many confused posts flying around. angry

You can even edit the song: reduce volume, reduce noise, remove the voice and leave just d beats, remove channels, everything you can think of! And it saves in every format: wav, mp3, wma whatever.

Just get it and dat's d end of all your problems. Lemme know if u av problems.

ComputersRe: Hibernate Or Turn Off? by shylle(m): 9:43am On Sep 10, 2007
People who know anything don't turn their PCs off at all.

People who know anything in Naija hibernate their laptops.

People who sabi NEPA well well for Naija just shutdown or else NEPA go help dem

Really, it's just a matter of what works for you. Hibernation works fine for me. I'm a developer and I always have a lot of work doing. Leaving d office for d house doesn't mean I have to shut down, i just hibernate.

Of course, after a week or two, the RAM gets bothered, so I restart, Pretty simple.
