Again, I'll like to know; why should church members pay to learn in a school built with their tithes and offering money? This's the question I need an answer to. Where did you get the info that tithe and offering is used to build schools or uni |

Why should his followers pay to learn is a university built with their tithe and offering money? Why do Federal uni students pay tuition in universities built with their tax? Tax that's forcefully collected as against tithes and offering voluntarily paid. Think bro . . . |

CU and LU collect school fee (which is not cheap compared to public universities), the church has a bakery, a water company, a publishing company and generates revenue through rent/sale of shops and land within the church complex at Ota, aviation services, all the church branches remit 10% of their monthly income to the HQ.......and you say this huge fund is used for what exactly again? fatdick: Next time, please be honest enough to add "I was told" before your statements. You appear to be just a CU student/graduate than a regular LFC member. Let me take you down memory lane, long before you got admitted to CU, church members gave special offering to finance the project, some even volunteered in areas of manual labour (carrying blocks, concretes and assisting on the site). Who are these partners you're talking about gan? What do they get in return for their partnership? Please dont you dare say 'nothing'.....else you sound naive.
Talking about recurrent expenditure, is that enough reason not to pay tax? Abi other profit making companies that pay tax no get recurrent expenditure ni? Are you confused?
And all the weekly tithes and offerings (which runs into huge millions) are used for what exactly if not recurrent expenses.....or does God come to pick them up personally, maybe He has an account. People who are mentally limited are not hard to notice. But the story changed along the line. Stop dangling irrelevant history. What I described is the current model. Please when last did they take offering for uni(landmark or covenant) projects? |

fatdick: When projects are to be financed in Winner's Chapel, special offerings are raised which are project specific I never heard that. What I know is the 'partner' arrangement. It was used for the enginering department buildings like EIE, civil and Mech. Even if what you wrote was true, there is still the recurrent angle to it, do they also take special offerings for deisel, gen set, staff salary, equipments and other recurrent expenses? People use their mental limitation and circumstance to guess what they don't most times. |

They said: ‘This church is church of God and we are accountable to God.’ And I told them: ‘Very good, so you must take this church to heaven, you can’t operate it here’. When public funds are involved, government needs to ensure proper accountability.”
Hahaha! What is the location of heaven biko? In the imagination of the gullible members and in the bank accounts of the rich pastors
Shior In islam when child marriage leads to VVF the victims are taken care off by govt owned and subsidized hospitals. I say this from experience. If god commanded child marriage and it is now leading to VVF, they might as well take the VVF victims to their god and prophet for further treatment. These people are clearly envious of the progresses the church is recording. |

Seun: Yea. I actually support the establishment of universities by churches. Those universities provide good education to rich students, thus freeing up more space for poor students in public universities. Also, it reduces the need for rich parents to send their kids abroad, thus saving forex.
However, I also agree with Mr Obazee's concerns. It's not right for a commercial entity to be allowed to escape accountability by simply hiding under the umbrella of a non-profit organization. The solution is for the schools to incorporate the schools as independent companies.
([s]Pastor Adeboye and others should be allowed to be GOs for life if he believes that this is God's will; but he should not be running for-profit businesses.[/s]) not sure if this is relevant due to lack of information From my inside knowlegde of Covenant Uni for example, it isn't a profit run school neither is the Church itself a profit run church or organisation. People speculate trash according to their weak conscience and empty stomach alot. I can say for a fact that Covenant Uni isn't funded by tithes and offering. When building new structures, they have people termed as 'partners' who do that voluntarily. Tell me how's that different from a LAUTECH or OAU that's govt owned but leaves room for people willing to donate building or labs? My fear is for those copycat churches who try to replicate what's happening in some other churches they hardly understand. |

Mc4larin:
“When you set up a church, your motive is to ensure that people are well focused to go to heaven. Then the money in the church should be targeted at ensuring that people are helped to do that. If you want to set up a school, then it should be free for all your members’ children. If you charge any money, then you are in the same league with other schools outside that are paying taxes to the government.
“If you set up schools, hospitals and the likes under a church, there is a high likelihood that you will be engaging in non-charitable activities within charity. If you are doing that, then what stops Dangote from setting up a mosque and having all his cements, rice and sugar under it? That is actually what some churches and mosques are doing. These silly people who can't question religious backed killings, child marriage, or terrorism are trying to interpret God's will for Christians to Christians. The main question here should be is the Church owned school making profits or not? As for the arguement of children of members attending the school for free since they pay tithes, offering and other seeds, it is a flawed arguement too. It may be a popular arguement among ignorant Christians. |

Seun: I support the forced divestment of private schools and other commercial businesses from churches. That's better than forcing tenure limits on church leaders. It is better to tackle the problem directly instead of using indirect methods that will lead to unintended consequences. The government has the right to insist that churches should sell off their commercial businesses, but not to dictate spiritual matters like leadership. A government that fights religion will be fought by religion. The result will be a more divided country. We can't afford that. A confused govt that can't deliver quality education is trying to re-regulate private(church-owned) higher institutions. I don't support that. Is the govt saying NUC hasn't been doing a good job all these years? |

BraniacX: And all these lies you mentioned, is according to who? If states owe salaries, how is that the fault of the FG? Are states not supposed to work within their means, under Jonathan, it was mainly osun state and few others that were owing salaries due to financial recklessness and heavy indebtedness (debts that were of no economic gain to the state), so it was never allocation shortfall, those states had to have their external debts serviced first before anything else! And we operate a capitalist economy not a socialist feeding bottle economy that buhari is turning us into! Where was the IGR aregbesola was bragging about back then?
marketers are still being owed today and the bulk of the marketers debt was accrued under buhari, fine, even about the marketers if you supported APC and took part in occupy Nigeria, you have no right to complain because the debt owed marketers was due to the presence of subsidies whose removal you opposed under jonathan only to turn around and support it under buhari, even with the subsidy removal by buhari the cost of fuel sky rocketed even when oil was selling for below $40/barrell, how do you explain that?
And as for the dollars, except you're talking about the black market price, save yourself the lies! You can tell us too, how that compares with today?
And if we were to even accept the lies you told, how does that translate into recession? What do you understand by recession sef?
Will you make a comparism of inflation and unemployment, foreign investor confidence, market ratings, stock market performance then and now too? Stop being funny with 'facts'. Buhari cleared GEJ mess with what was suppose to pay our current debts. |

eyeview: I think it's a wrong postulation from you to state that the nation was already headed into recession before Buhari took charge. How can a nation whose economic indices were on a progressive growth during Gej be headed for recession. It grew to the point that it became the third fastest growing economy in the whole world. Let's stop falling for the cheap propaganda APC and Buhari wants us to believe. The truth is that every thing needed to reverse the economy of any thriving nation was experimented by Buhari on assumption of power. Some of these reverse gear policies and actions included: 1, Spending over 7 months to set up a ministerial team to drive the economy 2, Putting square pegs in round holes in the ministerial slots. None of the ministers were appointed in their areas of competence, this will lead to further loss of time to understand their sector and ofcourse, being novice in their sectors, they were at the mercy of the perm secs and DGs who were doing their 'deals" under the ministers' nose. A typical example was the budget padding. 3, Going to the international scene to label your country as criminals with only you as the saint will certainly scare away investors. 4, Outrighting banning of Forex to users and parallel markets automatically caused scarcity of forex which in turn caused the free fall of the naira against major currencies. That effect is responsible for 80 percent of the rising cost of goods and services today. 5, The division of the country on tribal lines with his unguarded comments. Since you and I agree that oil is still our sole source of income, there is a reason why previous govts treat the Niger delta, the goose that lays the golden egg with caution. You don't go to the foreign media to announce that the region that produce the wealth can not receive dividends of your govt because they voted their son and not you. In other words, you will take their wealth and develop your region and ignore them. The resultant effect was the bombing of pipelines which saw to the great decline of national income. 6, The sacrificing of merit on the altar of tribal bigotry. There are key offices and appointments you don't make based on tribal or any form of sentiment. Such offices are key but Buhari on assumption brought to fore his tribal bigotry. People who could have handled some key sectors were overlooked for 'brothers from the North's who had no experience in running dynamic systems like ours.
The list is endless. Buhari is purely responsible for the mess he has plunged this nation into.
He claims there was no money when he took over. Obj received paltry USD 3bn from abdulsalaam yet we had no recession. He receives USD 30bn from Gej and he plunges the nation into recession.
He claims oil price fell at his tenure. Oil has been selling at an average of USD 55 per barrel. It sold for about USD 26 to USD 30 in yaradua and Gej respectively, yet we didn't enter recession.
At what point will it be clear to the likes of you that Buhari is solely responsible for our predicament Stop being half smart. The economy was clearly on a decline b4 handover. |
