mrvitalis: This is the best time for Nigeria.... Cheap dollars supply is no more so our subsidy for every goods can't be sustained.. . Look local production will grow
Nigerian leaders are like barbers who charge you your head for haircut or a car wash services that charges customer their car except its side mirror . . .
drss2: if nigeria was a sane con3, pipul like buari dullard, who should be in daura by now sitting on his roking chair listening to cow music will never be president. d man is just too ancient. lacks d necessary skills for modern governance n he's totally unfit to be president in 21st century. buari belong to d stone age. but d fact dat buari ( a stone age material) was voted president by nigerians means dat those who voted him to power belong to d stone age as well. wat a calamity.
Between 2002 and 2014 Nigeria spent $210bn plus to subsidize the dollar rate. That's average of $15bn/yr. We could have built 1 Dangote-sized every year.
It is easy for ignorant folks to compare the present to 2014 without understanding how the system was sustained then. Truth is the govt spent average of $15bn/yr to subsidies the Dollar or defend the Naira. This made dollar cheap. It is also common knowledge that the past govt didn't record any growth not linked to increased oil earning. The govt simply spent oil windfall to impress and was so lazy it borrowed & warned Nigerians of the hard times ahead.
ojgallant: Will you burn your school certificate for $10m?.......pls i need serious minded person to comment
I will gladly burn it for $9.9m and pursue my dream with the money. The knowlegde doesn't need the certificate for it to find expression any longer . . . Imagine starting my own company.
I implore Jonathan to run in 2019. I want the gap between Jonathan and any other person to be clear to Nigerians. His tactic of rigging public opinion worked against him and doesn't seem to have learnt any lesson so far . . .
Dreal11247: I recently tried to analyze the person of our President. With his assets declaration, he cannot even increase his value. He was poorer than he was as at the time when he was overthrown as at the time he started his presidential race. Unlike Obasanjo who is increasing his value on daily basis. All the plots of land that belongs to our President are not yet developed. As we can see, that is what he is replicating in Nigeria. God will surely deliver us.
Asset increase is influence by many things bros. Re-investment, equity, capital size, personal expense etc. Stop being so ignorant.
Good thread. Fashola taught Lagos with small land mass and lots of fund where it is easy to generate and transmit power equals Nigeria with large landmass and low fund/per citizen ratio. The best option for Nigeria is to isolate industrial estates from our conventional power grid and allow industries thrive. At the rate we are going in this country, destructive politics may hold us back for another 50 years. The Abia IPP (Barth Nnaji)
PapaBrowne: Pretty good news. I hope those pouring so much pesticides to preserve beans can finally stop the nonsense.
I had an export request for 10 containers of beans but had to turn it down due to the ban.
Truth be told, because of the weak naira, it is increasingly becoming attractive for export$. The problem is we have a government that barely understands that there can be benefits from a weak naira. Let me just give an example using say a bag of Dangote cement. Let's assume the price of a bag of Dangote cement is N2000. When the exchange rate was 200 Naira to the $, that bag of cement would be equivalent to $10. At the current rate of of N450 to the $, that same bag of cement is less than $5. That means Dangote cement would become attractive in countries Where cement sells at $10. So Dangote can set his export price at $7 and his product would be really attractive despite his making a $2 premium.
This same narrative applies to literally all products whose entire inputs are locally sourced. The big benefit of this is increased production which would automatically translate to more jobs. The other big benefit is increased Forex which should help stabilize the fluctuating Naira. Take note, I said stabilize, not strengthen.
The problem though is we have a direction less government that has no understanding of even the most basic form Of rudimentary economics.
However, I have a problem. At 4:32 she spoke some words which I don't understand: "bo shadada vandasanda". After singing some more, at 4:52, she sang these words "o rerererebo shande yama zeke allelu," which I don't understand either. When I asked for the translation, I was told she was speaking in tongues which, fortunately, can be interpreted by those who have the gift of interpretation.
I hereby call upon Nairalanders with the gift of interpretation of tongues to interpret those words for us so we can fully appreciate the song.
I don't think speaking in tongue is suppose to be interpreted by people with gift of interpretation. In the Bible, Acts 2:1-13, when the disciples spoke in tongues some of the multitudes heard them speaking languages the understood. What Sinach uttered in that track is very likely another language different from what you and I know
ngolokante: Yup...the narrative is never complete without someone with your mindset...please when you get your atomic bomb to wipe out Muslims, start with me biko, coz left to your kind Islam and Muslims should be deleted from history
sarrki: You can see why most Nigerians won't support her ?
The woman is good just unfortunate she served under
The most corrupt govt
You call it Igbo project not Nigerian project
Ethnic bigotry won't land you and your likes to anywhere
You call somebody who negotiate dollar salary for herself only to turn around and tell us dollarization of our economy is bad few months before she left her job Good? She is a textbook carmeleon at best . . .
Jokerman: As many commended Emir Sanusi for his timely statement on the Nigerian economy, others however, chose to focus on a particular statement he made which many see as "carrying weight" as it suggests something quite interesting.
Sanusi while delivering a lecture on Wednesday at the 15th meetings of the joint planning board and national council on development planning in Kano, titled ‘Nigeria in search of new growth model’, has made some shocking statements which attracted commendations from economic experts, but concern to ordinary Nigerians.
He accused the Buhari led administration for indirectly following the path of recent administration on issues relating to financial fraud. He puts it as quoted below: ‘’We can always talk of the policies of the previous administration and we talk of oil subsidy and how it turned people into oil millionaires. But we have created another set of millionaires since 2015 from foreign exchange.
‘‘The people telling the government that if you devalue people will suffer are the ones benefiting presently. They bought the dollar at N179 and price their goods at N300.The poor pay the price of a devalued currency, the rich take the profit.
“You may not like it, but that is the truth. Any system that allows you, with one telephone call, to make N1bn without investing one kobo; the system is wrong,” Sanusi added.
It is on record that we spent far more subsidizing the Dollar under Sanusi's tenure as CBN governor. If he had left a strong system capable of preventing round-tripping of dollar then he would no use of this evasive tactics he is going around feeding people with.
