Politics › Boston Marathon Bombings Suspect 'in Custody' by Siga(op): 2:03am On Apr 20, 2013
(CNN) -- [Breaking news update 8:48 p.m. ET]
The suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings is in custody, Boston police tweeted.

[Original story published at 8:46 p.m. ET]
Police have cornered a man believed to be the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings on a boat in a yard in a suburb of the Massachusetts capital, law enforcement officials told CNN.
Authorities "engaged" the man, according to one of the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, just minutes after authorities indicated a massive manhunt for a suspect in Watertown appeared to come up empty.

A CNN crew near the scene heard about two dozen gunshots fired, but it was not clear if the shots were fired by the suspect, authorities or both. A number of small explosions, believed to be stun grenades, also were heard.

Authorities, using a bullhorn, called on the suspect to surrender: "Come out with your hands up. The development came after authorities cast a wide net for the suspect that virtually shut down the Massachusetts capital amid warnings the man was possibly armed with explosives.

Authorities say Dzhokar Tsarnaev, 19, escaped an overnight shootout with police in suburban Watertown that left his older brother 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev -- the other man wanted in the bombings -- dead. Bob Sakowitch was among a number of people who fled as shots were fired.

"It was unbelievable the amount of gunshots. I was scared. I was across the street. We all ran for cover," he said. "... I wouldn't ever want to see this again. It was bad."

More than 22 hours after the search focused on the younger brother, police officers in full body armor, carrying automatic weapons wrapped up their door-to-door search of the area, Col. Timothy Alben of the Massachusetts State Police said.

Gov. Deval Patrick, meanwhile, lifted an order that confined an estimated one million residents to their homes, urging people to "remain vigilant."

yinkavelli: hello lovely people of nairaland, i am very concerned about a Canadian immigration website i visited 6months ago in regards to getting a work visa there....this is the site w w w . c a n a d a v i s a e x p e r t. c o m tho i applied a long time ago, i had forgotten about it when all of a sudden they just started bombarding me with calls this past week, asking me questions ranging from my educational, work back ground and how much i earn presently. i tot all was well until it got to a point when they stared to ask me for my MasterCard details, for an assessment fee of more than $600 which they said will be deducted from my atm. anytime the funds gets there. i don't mean to sound paranoid but it sounded dodgy to me, i guess this is maybe asper sharp naija boy. well, i asked my bank to block my ATM till i can ascertain the authenticity of this company or website...please nairalanders, i need your comments flowing in as reasonable, rational and responsible also helpful comments about them will be immeasurably appreciated. God bless the works of our hands, and may our good dreams come true. Yinkavelli undecided

gwobo: I wrote to them and they said I must produce an IELTS result.
How abt d application fees? Hw do u go abt dat?
....well...if thats the case...u can register ASAP...get it done as its not difficult....but u need 18wks of processing time...worst case....if u apply and VO wants to approve ur visa...they may request a new start date...at which point u write the school and they will most likely grant u a new start date of Jan 2014...but at least u knw say visa sure...as per the application fee....u can use a valid pako (credit card)....or if u dont have any...ask someone u sabi anywhere in the world we get one...or better still contact the school and ask them for another form of payment....
