John and Ann Betar of Fairfield, Conn. tied the knot on Nov. 25, 1932 and will be recognized on Saturday as the "longest married" couple in the U.S. One Fairfield, Conn., couple is receiving an early Valentine's Day gift: recognition as the “longest-married” couple in the United States . John and Ann Betar have been married since Nov. 25, 1932, and this year will mark their 81st wedding anniversary. The award does not mean the couple is the longest married in the country; it means they have been together longer than all others nominated in the past year. John is 101 years old, and Ann is 97. The couple have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. "They are wonderful, generous, compassionate and good-humored," their granddaughter Heather Mitchell told The News. "The way they deal with life's blessings and tragedies with such grace is one of the things that impresses me the most about them." HEATHER MCLAUGHLIN "It's no big deal being married 80 years when you're in love," says the Betars' daughter Renee. Mitchell will host a special ceremony on Saturday at her home in Fairfield. Several family members, friends, and their church's priest and deacon are expected to attend. Local officials, including Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau and Trumbull Mayor Tim Herbst, who is a family friend, will be present as well. "Their humility is impressive," said Mitchell. "They don't think they are unique or special. They think 'Everyone in our day got married this young,' and they don't see how special they are as everyone around them does. It adds to their charm." RELATED: DOES LONG-TERM LOVE HELP YOUR HEART? John Betar reiterated that point and told The News, "It's quite an honor, but I don't know what it's for." John and Ann met as children, and John would often drive Ann to school. Ann's parents arranged for her to marry someone else, but the couple defied their wishes and eloped. At the moment...I want to remain humble....I wont say anything until we win then I go RUN my mouth....lol ![]() |
It will be a glorious day |
earthgreeners: @Siga, no University would accept a certified copy....only colleges do....U are right |
blawi1: All Schools request ORIGINAL transcripts, there are no exceptions. Get a current student in your school and write an authorization letter for him to pick up your transcript on your behalf but addressed to the school(s) of your choice. When the sealed envelopes with your school seal/crest endorsement get to you, mail to the school(s) unopened. Otherwise they won't consider your application until you comply.....one second...not all schools but, nearly all...I just secured admission for someone at Humber College for PDG in Human resources management...all I submitted was a certified photocopy of her Degree Certificate (not Transcript) by a lawyer and it was accepted....so...exceptions dey...na the coordinator go decide... |
kayce43: Boss Siga, I sent u an e-mail, please reply as soon as possible.Thanks...Replied Sir |
But I still dont understand why una dey fight over this woman matter....we stand to gain nothing whether she lies or tells the truth....all I know is those US interviewers can be ridiculous at times....they issue visas to some people one cant even offer a gateman job and deny a whole GM of a bank...lol...whoever God is going to favour...e go hard for hin visa to be denied ooo.... |
mercylicious: @August n Sept applicants, any show?...when last did u mail these guys ...u really need to follow up on ur application...haba..this is ridiculous.... |
ezme: @debosky and Siga, the thing is, this co-op thing hasn't been emphasized before now, very few schools offer a co-op program for graduate students. Only URegina has a co-op program among the schools that i liked their course content. Most of us don't really look at the big picture when making this applications for admission. Some programs have co-op semester infused in them, it really goes a long way to but sadly the URegina would not make a decision till July 2013, which makes it almost impossible to make fall 2013 with present CDHC 4-6months processing time. I may just have to prepare my mind for a winter 2014 start date whether I get the Regina admission or not, cos I believe I would short-change myself if I hurriedly apply with any admission from the other two schools and end up getting the Regina offer. I believe getting an internship on my own may not be so easy to come by if the school doesn't have such partnership structure already in place. We know how difficult it is to secure internship with multi-nationals here in Nigeria. Internships are mostly by recommendations here.....Bro, Schools dont set u out on Co-ops oooo...u go still need to source for a place urself....the partners the school has comes with huge competition.....besides, co-op is based on which program u are going thru...not all courses need co-op... |
My Family...below is a mail one of our Nairaland bros sent me and requested I post it here...he advised he has difficulty posting it.... "Ok bro tnk u i will ask people around, its hard for me to sign up on that nairaland site so pls i will need u to help me tell my fellow applicants there (especially students)that its not all about the money & documents rather its about Baba GOD cuz my sponspor doesnt bare the same surename with me &i left high school since 2007! these are all i submitted. . .Waec result,20k Bank draft,Letter from sponsor,Bank statement,Referrence letter from bank, police report,Toefl result,my Birth certificate,Admission letter,Affidavit from court, embassy form & 4passport copy! ,i submitted on the 3rd of Oct 2012 & they called me for meds on the 4th of jan 2013..tell them to keep praying & they shouldnt loose hope,i will get back to you when i get my TRV,tnx for ur patronage God bless u for us" So...God still dey do hin work ooooo.... |
mozo: lol..bros I notice say you like the word 'wella' . Anyway, I beg I send you one mail, abeg try reply. Thanks...lol...I go reply u wella...lol ![]() |
ezme: @ Oga Siga, A friend is saying a co-op semester stands as Canadian work experience(professional work experience)and increases your chances of getting a job in your field. How important is an internship while studying in Canada to getting a job after study in your field?...@ debosky answered ur questions wella....Co-op is very much counted as Canadian Work experience...you can even be retained at ur Co-op if they like you...so, I will advise if u get one....be very nice....also...financially, its good....u can secure work permit through the job if they find u very good...they will go through HRSDC to get u a valid permit and u can pretty much use it to apply for ur PR.... |
