Minister Kenney Announces New Start-Up Visa, First of its Kind in the World

Toronto, January 24, 2013 — Canada will launch a brand new program on April 1 to recruit innovative immigrant entrepreneurs who will create new jobs and spur economic growth, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

“Our new Start-Up Visa will help make Canada the destination of choice for the world’s best and brightest to launch their companies,” said Minister Kenney. “Recruiting dynamic entrepreneurs from around the world will help Canada remain competitive in the global economy.”

The Start-Up Visa Program will link immigrant entrepreneurs with private sector organizations in Canada that have experience working with start-ups and who can provide essential resources. The Program is part of a series of transformational changes to Canada’s immigration system that will make it faster, more flexible and focused on Canada’s economic needs.

...Bro, there is pretty much nothin we can do....Schools are pretty much independent entities when it comes to recruitments and fund raising....they can choose whichever way they want to seek funds...... FYI, I will be having a phone convo with a rep at the Commerce Dept of the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria next month....already inked correspondence with her but she advised they have seminars in Lagos and Abuja this month and are very busy....so, she proposed next month....so, I go call her and see where we go from there....I gat few things planned...hope it works out.....

khemthar: Dear all,

Good day everyone. Been following this thread quietly and I have received plenty education from it!! God bless all the folks who have tried to help others out in any way.

I need some info please. I have an offer from uVictoria for MBA but I am a bit skeptical about really going there. I have heard Victoria is expensive (does anyone know, in what ways exactly is it expensive?) and I'm concerned it'll be boring- it doesn't appear there are many Nigerians there. Anyone with any info on this??

NB:: I have another offer from uRegina, also for MBA. But since I will be returning to work in Nigeria, I want a uni that's higher up on the world rankings. My employers here (it's a bank) are quite particular about the popularity and reputation of the school as well as its ranking.
....Bro, the ranking is below :

Uni of Toronto
Uni of Western Ontario
York Uni
Uni of British Colombia
Uni of Alberta.

Those are the top 5....pick at will....competition plenty wella and pretty pricy....so, if ur employer is paying, I will pick the best ....lol .... free money no de tear pocket.....

As per Victoria...Una the place na we te re ego.... grin .... hope I said it right...I be Yoruba boy.... Naija boys no too dey....no one plan to spend all hin money for Canada.....as previous stated....BC na province for Asians...pretty much....

@earthgreeners....I cant say much as most of these questions are pure repetition of what we have discussed over and over again in this forum.....in terms of funds....CDHC would like to see minimum of 6 months bank statements...which means, they wanna see how money comes in and out monthly...plus the closing balances each month....plus u have to show where the money dey come from.....everyone knows this.....

Shakira and her soccer star boyfriend, Gerard Pique, just welcomed a baby boy!

https://l2.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/WnuH62JVxeL9Gq7j8Rv3VA--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTYyMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en-US/blogs/omgcelebnews/620-Shakira-012213TWITTER-jpg_233902.jpg

She shared the news on her website, writing:

We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain.

The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.

Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.

The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health.

Milan is the first child for the Colombian popstar, 35, and her Spanish beau, 25, who have been together for nearly two years.

The twosome have definitely been awaiting the big day -- last week Shakira shared professional photos of her pregnancy curves for her UNICEF Virtual Baby Shower, which donates gifts and money to less fortunate children around the world.

The pair also teased fans by announcing their son's birth in the form of a prank for Dia de los Innocentes (Day of the Holy Innocents), the Spanish equivalent of April Fool's Day back in December.

But now that the little guy is finally here, we can't wait to see him! Congrats to the happy (and good-looking) couple!

mozo: I remember when I call one landlord like that, the guy say na only female tenants im dey find.. Ashawo
...Not necessarily Ashawo....Male tenants can be wahala bro...boys dont clean, they are involved with gangs and drugs...they fight landlords cos they dont wanna pay...and here...u cant kick anyone out....u fail to pay, the landlord gives u letter to leave and if u refused, he has to take u to court which make take over 6months and u stay in the house rent free....so, the wahala is way too much....u see now

kenniy: does it make more sense to go this route (finding receipt)? than say to indicate that he cant make payment for accommodation without been physically present..as u had previously suggested?
...both can be done....there are alot of people that dont know anyone here....so, u can go that route....also, go on the school site....most schools now have list of landlords...and u can get in touch with one....have him hold the place for u and use the correspondence ....then let CDHC know u wanna see the place before paying and that the landlord agreed....

Sports › Togo Robbed At AFCON Hotel In South Africa by Siga(op): 11:50pm On Jan 21, 2013
The Hawks of Togo were allegedly robbed shortly after their arrival in South Africa to participate in the 2013 Africa Nations Cup.

According to insiders some personal belongings as well as some cash disappeared from the rooms of some players, as mentioned by Emmanuel Adebayor to MTNFootball.com on Saturday at their Sun City hotel.

While the exact circumstances of the incident have not yet been disclosed, Togo admitted being in relation with the police.

"Police are conducting an investigation, therefore we are waiting for the latter to be completed before releasing any comments," an official told MTNFootball.com at their training on Monday.

Togo will face the Ivory Coast on Tuesday at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg for their first match in Group D.
