nextstep: His profit margins are not out of line with other companies (foreign and Nigerian) that operate within Nigeria. This is directly due to the many adversities that businesses face within this country. Don't forget that, if the operations were funded by a Nigerian bank, out of a 40% margin, 20% or more is often paid back to the bank. The terms are not much better with foreign banks unless you have a history with them.
Arguably this burden eventually falls on the people in terms of high costs of materials. Note that if a foreign company (or another Nigerian one) were to enter the market, the prices would stay largely the same. And for the most part, Dangote's profits are then funneled into building other industries across Africa, not into coffers overseas.
The solution, at this stage is for government to make it easier for businesses in Nigeria by providing infrastructure and reducing the cost of business - reducing interest rates, tackling inflation, and so many other things. The high profit margin is after tax and other expenses are made. |

xjiggy: Are the US companies paying excessive interest on loans? Are the US companies using Generators to power their plants? Are the policies Dangote is profiting from not for all indigenous people of this country? While others are seeking license to import petroleum products, Dangote is building a refinery. His refinery will provide jobs for Nigerians and help curb importation. We buy chocolate at exorbitant prices even when we know the foreign companies buy cocoa at relatively low prices from us. Have u ever complained about that? Dangote cement bag is the fullest and comes relatively cheaper. If others are investing their stolen money in the Nigerian market, I guess the unemployment rate will be lower than what we've got now. Dangote Is a legit business owner taking full advantage of all available opportunities open to him. Leave him ALONE That's what that article is telling us that even though he's excessive interests on loans, he's margin is above 40%. While the norm elsewhere is 17% Though he's generating his own power with gas and imported coal, he's margin is above 40%. While the norm elsewhere is 17%. And if it's for the Indigenous people of Nigeria, Why can his margin be 17% like other cement manufacturers? Why is he exploiting his beloved people by making sure his margins are above 40%. And he's taxed just 1%. Like I said wait till his refinery is ready, that's when most of our eyes go open. |

Would you rather a foreigner controls our economy.. look at what South African companies are doing with mtn and dstv.. my prayer is that people like you; wake up..do you know why The USA is able to sanction countries? Part of it is because they have the biggest companies in the world.. why do you think that china makes laws that will keep their indigenous companies on top..be wise my brother..if Dangote is a Nigerian, he has my 100% surpport. Period!! I do not give a shit what part of Nigeria he comes from..!!! Coming from an Igbo man!!!! You don't even get my point. I got this from the original post. Can you see Dangote's margin? That ďude is a vampire.
Have we asked ourselves why Dangote cement hasn't been so successful elsewhere apart from Nigeria?
Dangote will finish his refinery, FG will reduce fuel importation and we'll be lucky to buy a litre of fuel 350 naira. |

Just like how he has also failed to leave up to expectations in his career.
Success was not yet in camp with the 2013 Eaglets when Etim Esin and my humble self gave them lectures on the negative effects of living a wreckless life as a footballer. Etim himself and Okoronwanta were the two major case studies.
Well, thank God we are seeing the positive results in the lives of likes of Ndidi, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Nwakali bothers, Yahaya and co.
Success has missed it. Its a shame.
While other youngsters like Iheanaco, Iwobi, Simon, Ndidi, Etebo, Aina, Shehu are ready to take Nigeria and their careers to the next level. This one is just destroying his future.

National pressure comes with emotional stress Messi was heavily under stress against Peru and Ronaldo and his team mates almost wanted to faint to day against Andorra. There's nothing as sweet as playing for pride. I could tell that most of those Nigerian players today were under immense pressure. Most have not played a game of this pressure. Forget the fact they play in Europe or wherever, but playing for your country in a must win game is a very different feeling. Kudos to those players and Mikel for guiding them. I agree with you. We must save ourselves by becoming a nation of Peace, Equity, Equality and Justice. But it seems like it's easy for the camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for all these I listed to come to pass in this nation. We must save ourselves by making Education and Healthcare cheap and accessible to all Nigerians. Making sure all Nigerians have access to clean water, clean environment, good roads, etc. However, it's rocket science for us to achieve and the worst is that rocket science is now easy in developed world. For now we are a hopeless divided nation. We are on life support and shouldn't bother with what is happening in our neighbours compound. |

londoner: People are remitting to their families to make up the shortfall of an ineffective government and lack of functioning systems. They are not remitting to the government so they can't decide how the money is used. It is the diaspora that can create something outside of Nigeria to direct their money to specific projects within Nigeria in a way they see fit.
They are not funding the government that's what Nigerian taxpayers should be doing. I believe there's a bill for private funding for infrastructures before the NASS. Now if passed and signed by the Executive, it means that Private companies can now invest in the construction of roads, rails, seaports, underground tunnels/highways, etc. The companies can raise funding by appealing to Nigerians in Diaspora to invest in these projects and recoup their investments. |

This is the issue, reason why there will always be stiff resistance to refineries and airports privatization. We are really in a big mess bruv SPOT ON!!! |
Politics › Re: FG To Reintroduce Tolls On Federal Highways by signz: 9:16am On Sep 26, 2017 |
989900: 1. Concession all commercially viable federal roads to private companies for rehabilitation and construction of new ones.
2. Let them roads be maintained and funded by toll fees.
3. Make provision for private citizens to be able to buy 'limited shares' in these companies.
4. Let ministry of works perform only oversight duties on these roads to make sure they are always in top shape.
5. Let the ministry concentrate funds on improving our state and local roads: A. $20b is too little to fund adequate Infrastructure for 200 million people when a country like Qatar with 2.5 m population runs a $55b budget, or South Africa 55m population with $90b budget.
B. The local and state governments fly below the radar 'chopping' monies meant for these projects.
C. We spend more time on these inner roads damaging our cars and wasting time.
D. Them federal highways deathtraps can now become highways with lower avoidable incidents -- of course you get what you pay for.
Personally, I won't want to pay for a Range Rover only to be given a Toyota Yaris.
I don't know why simple things like this are soooo difficult for our politicians. For God's sake under this same Fashola, a private company built a world class road and put toll gates on it to recoup their funds. Why is it so difficult to do same at Federal level. |
Politics › Re: FG To Reintroduce Tolls On Federal Highways by signz: 9:08am On Sep 26, 2017 |
kingphilip: I think the government should go by this because i don't know how the toll fare is going to be collected and returned into the government account without some individuals getting a huge cut out of it and giving just remitting just peanuts to the government
But with the 1naira per liter billing, there's a way the government can enforce it by actually collecting the money before it is lifted by the petrol tankers and the filling stations recoup it back by adding a naira to the present pump price
It's really gonna tell on the masses though.. The government should only implement it only if there's no other alternatives Exactly!!! Toll gates were given to politicians. Example under Obj (before he disbanded it)The toll gate in Ninth mile Enugu was being managed by the Minister from Enugu State. Politicians will hijack this process. Even if we're taxed 1 naira per litre, politicians and civil servants will still eat the money. I believe the best thing is for a law to be passed encouraging Reputable Private individuals and companies with access to funds to build roads and put toll gates on them. The companies will still pay tax to the FG, a win - win situation. |
