Before Sallal's statement, officials from other countries and companies that employed foreign workers at the sprawling plant had confirmed 29 hostage deaths.

Seven of the 37 confirmed dead haven't been identified yet, according to the prime minister. Those who have been identified include seven Japanese, six Filipinos, three Americans, three Britons and one Algerian, officials from those countries said.

Some 29 militants also died, while three were captured, Sallal said, according to the state-run Algerian Press Service.
The standoff ended Saturday, after four days, when Algerian special forces stormed the complex for the second time. The government said it did so because the militants were planning to blow up the installation and flee to neighboring Mali with hostages
those killed in the rescue operations includes citizens of America, Romania, Colombia, Japan, France, Malaysia, Philipine, Norway and the United Kingdom.

PoliticsWhat Has The Killing Of The 7-hostages Achieved? by silica(op): 12:47pm On Mar 12, 2013
Over the weekend, the terrorist group Ansaru posted a video showing the killing of the 7 hostages abducted from a construction site in Bauchi. the British, Italian, Greek, Lebanese and Philipine hostages were workers of Setraco Construction Company. i am not a politician neither am i a cleric, but i feel that the terrorist activities being allowed to thrive in the north is harming the people of the region more than the FG.
how can the North develop when construction workers are being killed? who will do the job??
with this state of affairs in the north, how can the region compete with other regions in the federation? ten years from now where will the north be? what does the killing of these men achieve for Ansaru? what does Ansaru want? when will the youths of the region rise up against this group of people who are destroying their present and truncating their children's future?
WHAT DOES THE KILLING OF THESE INNOCENT MEN ACHIEVEhuh

this is Politics and Politics is a game. the earlier these CPC and ACN clowns get down to business and stop making noise, the better for them. in a game of football,it is silly to cry that another team has bought the player you were eyeing. if they had use their head instead of their empty mouths, they would have kept their name and logo secret until they have agreed and were ready to submit their papers to INEC for registration. legally speaking, if PDP is behind the new party, its simply a smart move and nothing illegal about it. ACN/CPC should try and outsmart them if they want to be taken seriously. but if they keep acting like kids, crying foul when a rats crosses the road, then am afraid am not interested in such boy scout organisation and they should forget my vote. i want a matured opposition not a bunch of disheveled and failed politicians using the general discontent with the state of affairs for personal gains.

Insecurity not peculiar to Nigeria-Ado Bayero
Published on Monday, 11 March 2013 05:00
Written by Haruna Gimba Yaya, Kano

Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, said yesterday that the insecurity situation is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, as it has become a global issue affecting many countries.
The emir made the statement while receiving Vice President Namadi Sambo, who visited to commiserate with him over the attack on his convoy by gunmen on January 19, 2013.
The emir, who recently returned to the country from a medical trip abroad, said the insecurity situation will soon be over, and called for fervent prayers.
The 83-year-old monarch expressed appreciation to all those who have condoled with him over the incident. He particularly thanked President John Mahama of Ghana and his Benin Republic counterpart, President Boni Yayi, who visited him while in the UK.
Earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo said he was in Kano to commiserate with the emir and people of the state over the attack, adding that the Federal Government is doing all it could to tackle the situation.
Daily Trust observed that there was a heavy security presence at all routes from the airport to the emir palace during the visit

FG taps into $900m global microwork job initiative
By BusinessNews Staff on March 11, 2013

The Ministry of Communication Technology will on Monday, March 18, unveil a job creation scheme tagged “Microwork for Job Creation-Naijacloud,” as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and create wealth for youths across the country.

“Microwork for Job Creation in Nigeria” initiative includes two aspects of Paid Crowd sourcing technology: Microwork and e-Lancing.

Paid crowd sourcing is an expanded segment within the new virtual economy with significant job creation potential for skilled (e-Lancing) and semi-skilled workers (Microwork).

The estimated global size of the microwork market ranges between $450 and $900 million annually.

The Ministry, with support from the STEP-B project, under the Ministry of Education will launch “Microwork for Jobs Creation in Nigeria” to address the issues of unemployment, job creation and employability among the nation’s graduates, using information technology.

The primary objective of the project, the organisers say, is to create awareness about work opportunities in the Microwork and e-Lancing space as well as create job opportunities for youths in Nigeria in order to reduce the unemployment rate among our youths in the nation.

The initiative also aims to reduce the country’s brain drain, create business opportunities for potential Nigerian Microwork and e-Lancing Companies, wealth creation opportunities for the young and showcase opportunities for Nigerian businesses to work more efficiently and have a broader Nigerian workers database.

The statement stressed that the Ministry of Communications Technology in line with its mandate to create jobs by taking advantage of fast-growing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria is tapping into the Microwork opportunity in order to reduce youth unemployment, which currently stands at 60per cent level for youths. Industry experts say this is too high for a nation like Nigeria as it is a time bomb waiting to explode.

The Microwork for job creation **naijacloud** is an initiative targeted at unemployed Nigerians using the ICT platform. Unemployed youths with access to phone and internet looking for work or job opportunities are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative.

To drive the initiative, a free workshop provided by internationally acclaimed companies (Crowdflower, Elance, ODesk, Mobileworks and Samasource) will be held simultaneously at the -Digital Bridge Institute, Oshodi, Lagos on March 18 and 19 and Cham’s City, Abuja on the March 18.

This initiative, the statement added, is unique because the participants do not have to be University graduates or any special qualification to attend because the minimum requirement is just basic computer skills
PoliticsPolice And Unresolved Murders: An Insider Thought. What Do You Think?? by silica(op): 12:33pm On Mar 11, 2013
Police and unresolved murders
March 11, 2013 by CP Sam Adetuyi (retd.) Leave a Comment

One factor I find most intriguing, embarrassing, unprofessional and a barrier to successful investigation of murder cases, be they high and low profile in Nigeria, is the degree of publicity that follows police investigations and the strategy that the Police intend to pursue. Beyond this, you find analyses and generalisations made even by ignorant and uninformed persons. In the past, persons with useful, credible and timely information gave such to the Police and they were helpful in tracking the assailants. What to do? Please, inform the Police but if you are sceptical and think you may be a victim of what people say that you may be exposed, personally meet the State Commissioner of Police and inform him. Be sure thereafter that you do not do anything to expose yourself. Security and the lack of it are a shared responsibility.

Efforts should be intensified by police investigators to get to the end of unresolved murder cases in the country.

I have given directive to that effect. We have warned the soldiers to conduct themselves, not to kill innocent civilians; but I will not celebrate the death of one soldier, and I repeat, I will not celebrate the death of one soldier.” President Jonathan

Ever since the murder of the Principal Secretary to governor of Adams Oshiomole, comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, the two Security agencies involved in the investigation appears to be coming from two different worlds. while the SSS has presented their case in a manner that leaves no doubt about their investigation and findings, the Police have been busy beating around the bush, changing their story depending on who is listening to them. they have not presented one single evidence to back their claims, instead they are fighting over who has the right to investigate or not as if that's enough excuse for them to do whatever they like in the name of having the power to investigate. here's a video of the SSS suspects confessing how the operation went down. Note the consistency even in their separate individual statement lets share view here.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Was Nani's Red Card Justified? by silica(m): 12:16pm On Mar 06, 2013
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes referee Cuneyt Cakir "made the right call" when he sent off Nani in Tuesday night's Champions League battle with Real Madrid at Old Trafford.
Irate United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was seething with rage as the last-16 tie was transformed by the contentious decision of the Turkish official to dismiss Nani for his high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa in the 56th minute at a moment when the home side were in the ascendancy, but Keane had little sympathy for the banished Portuguese winger.

"The referee has made the right call," Keane told ITV Sport. "It's dangerous play, it's a red card. He knows there are other footballers on the pitch and to be fair to the referee, he took a few minutes, spoke to his assistant and decided it was a red card.

"I don't think the referee made the decision because he waited a couple of minutes while one of the players was getting treatment and I think it was the assistant that made the call. Whatever people are getting upset about it, but I think he made the right call.

"Any time I got sent off in my career, I always thought did I give the referee a chance to send me off? If the answer is yes, then it is out of your hands. Everyone is upset about it and United are slightly unlucky to go out, but it's dangerous play. Whether he meant it or not is irrelevant. It was dangerous play, red card.

"Whether the referee was brave or not, it was the right decision. Let's not forget that Nani is quick to go down, he is not always the bravest boy."

Keane went on to praise Real Madrid match winner Cristiano Ronaldo as "an £80 million snip" as he marked his return to Old Trafford with the goal that secured his team a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

"It looked like a lot of money when Real Madrid paid £80 million for Ronaldo, but he looks like a snip now," Keane added. "What a fantastic player. He didn't have his best game against United, but he was fantastic."

The murder of Adams Oshiomile's personal Secretary exposed some terrible happening in our Police force. How innocent citizens are framed up and killed just so the police can claim to be working. Unfortunately, instead of admitting that they were wrong, they have been hiding under one lie to cover their shame including using the newspaper to sing their own praise. In one particular article whichever appeared here on Nairaland, they even recommended promotion for the "galant" officers that carried out the shameful investigation.
