EducationUTME: Beware Of Unapproved Cybercafes, JAMB Warns Applicants by simongonner(op): 9:21am On Jan 31, 2013

Education
BY DAYO ADESULU
Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, JAMB
has warned students who
are applying for the Unified
Tertiary Matriculation
Examination, UTME, slated for
April 27, 2013 to register
only at cybercafes accredited
by the board.
JAMB Executive Registrar,
Professor Dibu Ojerinde who
gave this warning at a media
briefing in Lagos disclosed
that between November last
year and January 2013, one
million and one hundred
students have registered for
the examination.
He said out of this number,
only 4,000 candidates have
registered for the Computer-
Based Test, CBT, thereby
dismissing insinuations that
students could not register
online because of
conjectures.
According to him, “students
should only register at
cybercafes that are
accredited by JAMB. We did
this because of the cheating
tendency of some of these
cybercafe operators who
collect money from students
and never register them
appropriately, especially
those who drop their data
with them and go home to
collect confirmation slips the
next day. If you go to any
cybercafe for registration,
please ask if the cybercafe is
accredited by JAMB. If they
say yes, ask them their code.
Students who have problems
with their registration may
be because the cybercafes
they patronised are not
accredited by JAMB because
if they do not have our code,
they can’t access our
website.

STEPHEN Keshi had many
reasons to be happy after
beating Ethiopia and
romping into the quarter
finals of the on-going Africa
Cup of Nations in South
Africa. He scaled through a
Nations Cup first round.
As coach of Togo and Mali,
Keshi crashed out in the
preliminary stage. And the
fear of succumbing to yet
another first round jinx
heightened with his poor
two draws against Zambia
and Burkina Faso.
“My brother, it is not a small
thing o”, he exclaimed
thanking God for making it
possible for him not to be
labeled a perpetual first
round victim of the Nations
Cup.
Overwhelmed by joy, he has
asked Nigerians not to worry
about Cote d’Ivoire, the most
dreaded squad of the
Nations Cup who play them
on Sunday in the quarter
finals.
“Why worry about Ivory
Coast?”, he asked as he
swarm in the pool of
congratulations and hugging
by well wishers. “There is no
doubt that they(Cote d’Ivoire
are loaded with players but
we are not afraid of them.
When we get to the bridge,
we shall cross it. Many people
are looking down on my
team. They are improving
with every game and we
shall raise the game to tackle
the Ivorians”, he said.

LAGOS — Policemen at
Makinde Division in Lagos,
have arrested three men
who allegedly raped a 13-
year-old girl, last August in
Mafoluku area of Oshodi.
The victim, a Junior
Secondary School student
(names withheld), was
reportedly invited into one of
the suspects apartment at
19, Majaro Street, Mafoluku.
Report said when she got
inside, the owner of the
apartment Emenuwa
Achonam, a married man
with five children, whose
family was away, had carnal
knowledge of her, alongside
his two friends, Godwin
Udoh, 22, and Emenike Orji,
20,
She was, thereafter,
instructed not to tell anyone
and also threatened to kill
her if she did.
But the bubble burst after
the teenager fell ill and was
taken to the hospital only to
be confirmed that she was
pregnant, a development
that reportedly threw her
parents off balance.
The teenager, who was
apparently oblivious of her
present state, told policemen
that “brother Achonam called
me to buy drinks for his
visitors. But when I got
inside to collect the money,
he asked me to pull my
clothes and they started
dipping their hands inside
my womanhood before they
had carnal knowledge of me.
At the end they said they
would kill me if I tell my
parents or anyone about it.
The prime suspect, Achonam,
admitted to having
committed the crime,
blaming it on the handiwork
of the devil. He disclosed
that his wife travelled to the
village to nurse their fifth
child. On the part of his
alleged partners in crime,
they claimed they acted on
Achonam’s instruction.
The case, was charged to
Oshodi Magistrate court,
from where it was
transferred to the Ikeja
family court.
EducationRefugees Take Over UNIABUJA As School Remains Closed by simongonner(op): 4:34pm On Jan 29, 2013
The University of Abuja was shut
down in November 2012
following students' protest over
non-accreditation of some of
their courses, and while students
remained at home frustrated and
wondering when the school will
re-open, Fulani Herdsmen from
neighboring villages have taken
over some parts of the campus.
These refugees and their
families, report said have built
makeshift tents close to the
administrative area of the school
and have been living there since
late last year without
disturbance.
Sports‘keshi Not A Cup Of Nations Failure’ by simongonner(op): 6:30am On Jan 29, 2013
By Tony Ubani
The Nigeria Football
Federation on Monday lashed
out at those giving the false
impression that Super Eagles’
Head Coach, Stephen Keshi
has never won a match at
the Africa Cup of Nations.
“This impression is not only
false and a fallacy, but is
uncalled-for on the eve of a
crucial match at the Africa
Cup of Nations,” said
Ademola Olajire, NFF’s
Assistant Director of Media.
Olajire continued: “Keshi is
not a Cup of Nations failure.
He won the Africa Cup of
Nations as a player and has
won a match at the Africa
Cup of Nations as a Coach.
Although his Togo side was
winless in Egypt in 2006,
Keshi was in charge of the
Mali National Team when
they defeated Malawi 3-1 at
the finals in Angola three
years ago.”
The NFF spokesman also
pointed out that Mali was
eliminated in the group
stage in Angola only by the
head-to-head rule. “The
Eagles of Mali came from four
goals down to draw 4-4 with
the host nation in the
tournament opening match,
and then lost 0-1 to Algeria
before beating Malawi 3-1.
The same Malawian team
had beaten Algeria 3-0. Mali
finished on four points as
Algeria and had even
healthier goals difference
than Algeria, but was
eliminated on the head-to-
head rule.”
PoliticsMerger: Aggrieved PDP Members Set To Join Mega Party by simongonner(op): 6:23am On Jan 29, 2013
BY JOHNBOSCO AGBAKWURU
ABUJA—AGGRIEVED members
of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, are
reportedly making frantic
efforts to join the mega party
that will be the offshoot of
the merger arrangement
between the Action Congress
of Nigeria, ACN, and the
Congress for Progressive
Change, CPC, so as to wrestle
power from the PDP.
Secretary of the merger
committee for the CPC, Mr
Okoi Obono-Obla who
disclosed this to Vanguard,
yesterday, said the essence
of the merger plan was to
recue the country from the
pit of the ruling PDP.
Obono-Obla also allayed fears
of those who had the belief
that the merger arrangement
was centered on the former
CPC presidential candidate,
General Mohammadu Buhari
and the ACN leader, Asiwaju
Bola Tinunbu, saying that
with the new development,
Buhari and Tinunbu will
make sacrifices for the
interest of the country.
He said that from the stories
in the media, the PDP had
been jittery and planting
stories in some national
newspapers since the
merger talk started with a lot
of propaganda that the
merger would not work out,
adding that the two political
parties and some other
opposition parties had
agreed in principle that
merger was the only way to
give the PDP a run for its
money.
He said, “what CPC and ACN
were trying to do in 2011
which did not materialize
was an alliance. Merger is a
new concept in Nigeria
political history. It has never
taken place before. The
parties are collapsing their
structures into one party.
“So all these people who are
cynical about the merger
arrangement do not know
what they are talking about. I
am very optimistic because
we agree in principle that it
is the only way to give the
PDP a run for its money,
enthrone democracy,
eliminate corruption,
restructure the country and
rescue Nigerians from the
pit,” he said.
Obono-Obla who is also the
CPC Assistant National
Secretary said another area
the mega party will look into
if given the mandate was the
36 states structure to ensure
that the states will not be
hanging in Abuja every
months for allocation before
projects could be done.
“The 36 states structure has
not brought development to
the country. Maybe, we may
resort to regionalism or to
six geo-political zones to
provide true federalism to
the country.”
On the fear that Buhari and
Tinunbu would try to
dominate and determine
who gets what in the planed
merger, he said, “I don’t
think that Buhari factor will
cause any obstacle. Buhari
and Tinunbu will make
sacrifice, all of us will make
sacrifice, all the structures of
the two political parties will
go. We are going to make
sacrifices because Nigeria is
in trouble. For now we are
not talking about candidates,
we have the committee that
will decide and General
Buhari had said that he will
abide by the committee
recommendation.
“The whole essence of the
merger is to reorganize the
country and win political
power. CPC is the biggest
party in the North. We got 14
million votes in the last
presidential election. We are
merging with the ACN that
has South West and Edo state
and also Anambra and some
parts of Benue states. PDP
disenchanted members are
interested and want to come
on board, it is a movement of
the progressives that want
to proffer solutions to the
multi ferrous problems
confronting the country that
is why we are talking about
a broad based political party.
“We will be having two
ideological based political
parties, the rightist and the
leftist.The merger will
provide alternative to the
chaos we are having. We will
reorganize the country for
proper federalism so that
every body will control
resources.
“If you want good
governance and a party that
is not corrupt, then you will
vote for the party that will
emerge. Our manifesto has
these features, good
governance, true federalism
and so on. No Jupiter can
thwart this effort; we have
gone beyond somebody
trying to thwart this effort.
“Everybody is serious with
the merger talk, the
international community and
Nigerians are serious
encouraging us,” he said.
PoliticsDana Plane Crash Site Now Robbers’ Den by simongonner(op): 6:17am On Jan 29, 2013
BY MONSUR OLOWOOPEJO
BARELY eight months after
the Dana plane crash, in Ojokoro Local Council
Development Area (LCDA),
armed robbers have turned
the crash site into a hideout.
Although the state
government has barricaded
site, rubble from the
destroyed structures have
not been removed and
weeds have overgrown the
once upon a residential area.
It will be recalled that over
153 persons died on June 3,
2012 when the ill-fated flight
crashed into a two-storey
building on 12 Olaniyi Street.
Vanguard gathered that
residents of the area are
now gripped by fear of
attack from the robbers, who
hide in the site at night.
It was also learnt that the
bad state of the road which
hinders vehicular movement
is also aiding robbers in
perpetuating their nefarious
acts.
Mrs. Bashir, a resident of
Olaniyi Street said that her
son was attacked by the
robbers while on his way to
board the early morning
train.
According to her, “Since my
son was attacked, we have
stopped leaving our home
before 6:00 am. We are
gripped by the fear of the
robbers always.”
Engr. Adeleke Matthew,
another resident, decried the
poor state of the site, saying
“it has contributed to
insecurity in the community.”
Matthew noted that the
government was not doing
anything to improve the
state of the crash site and
the roads.
Chairman Akande Community
Development Association,
(CDA), Mr. Adewale Oriowo
said: “It is true that anyone
who passes through the site
at night or before 6:00 am
would be attacked by the
robbers. At this time, the
crash site is always dark.
“In fact, over four residents
have been attacked. When
the robbers are through
with their nefarious acts,
they hide in the crash site.
And due to the present state
of the site, no one will be
bold to go inside to confront
the robbers. The state of the
site gives the robbers
opportunity to see anyone
trekking along the street
while those outside wouldn’t
be privileged to see them.”
The chairman of the CDA
lamented that “none of the
roads in the community is
motorable. The state
government has neglected
Akande, a community on the
border line between Lagos
and Ogun state.”
Commissioner for Economic
Planning and Budget, Mr. Ben
Akabueze had during the
2013 budget analysis said
the government would
within the year rehabilitate
the network of roads linking
the site of the Dana Plane
Crash.
Oriowo continued, “We are
hoping that the roads will be
done this year as said by the
commissioner. Previously
what has been sustaining
the road was the yearly
contribution of N5, 000 from
the each landlord.”

PoliticsRe: Breaking:kano State Government Bans The Use Of Motorcycles by simongonner(op): 8:09pm On Jan 22, 2013
Kano bans motorcyclists from
carrying passengers
The Kano state
government has
suspended both
commercial and private
motorcyclists from
carrying passengers within
Kano and environs as from
Thursday, until they
register their bikes with
the authorities.
The ban came on the heels
of the attack by gunmen
on the Emir of Kano Alhaji
Ado Bayero, which led to
the death of at least six
persons and left many
others wounded including
the monarch’s two sons
last Saturday.
A statement issued by the
Acting Governor of the
state Dr. Abdullahi Umar
Ganduje, on Tuesday said
the decision was taken
after studying
recommendations given
by security agents.
“After a meeting with
security agencies and a
careful study of their
reports, We noticed that it
has become necessary to
suspend motorcycle riders
from carrying passengers
as from Thursday, 24,
January, 2013," Dr.
Ganduje said.
“Motorcyclists are required
to register their bikes in
order to ensure safety of
their own lives and those
of public members. We
urge the bikers to go back
to their respective local
government to register for
their own benefit and that
of others.
He thanked members of
the public for their
cooperation and urged
them to pray for the
return of peace to the
state.
According to an official
source, the decision to
proscribe commercial
motorcycles in the state
was based on an
observation that almost
all the violence that were
carried out in the state
were executed on
motorcycles.
Also the killing of two
lawmakers in the state
house of assembly by
gunmen riding bikes in
November and December
last year, had recently
resuscitated debates
among members of the
public on whether
motorcycles should be
allowed to operate or not.
A security source said a
string of meetings
involving both
government officials and
security agencies were
held in the wake of the
killings to discuss the
possibility of banning
motorcycles, but still it
was agreed that the bikers
should be regulated
because of security
implications of a blanket
ban.
But after the attack on
Bayero, which shocked
residents of Kano state
and crippled commercial
activities for two days, the
government, a source said,
resolved to ban the use of
bikes once and for all as a
measure to checkmate
further attacks. -DAILY TRUST

PoliticsGeneral Buhari Stole Money? by simongonner(op): 7:32am On Jan 21, 2013
GEN BUHARI STOLE MONEY
WHILE HE WAS IN OFFICE
BUT I THINK HE IS KEEPING
ALL THE MONEY HE STOLE
SO HE CAN SEND THEM TO
HIS LATE GRAND PARENTS
WHEN HE GROWS OLD AND
JOINS THEM IN DEATH.
The man General
Muhammad Buhari has
served as a Military
Governor, a Petroleum
Minister, PTF Chairman and
as a Head of state. There is
hardly any Retired Military
office or civilian that has
held as many lucrative
offices as he had. Today,
General Buhari has no
single house in Lagos
where he served as a head
of state and no single
house or plot of land in
FCT, yet he stole and has a
lot of money. Ordinary
commissioners, Ministers,
FCT mayors, Senators and
house of rep members
owns, 2, 3, 4, and more
houses in Abuja. Recently,
EFCC said some one owns
48 houses in Abuja, yet
Buhari has not a single one
but he still stole money
and has enough money.
General Muhammad Buhari
was formerly leaving in a
rented house in Abuja, but
packed his load and went
back to his village when his
rent was increased because
he could not afford the
new rent. Yet he stole and
has a lot of money. As a
former head of state and
petroleum minister, he has
not single oil block. All
other heads of states and
presidents owns multiple
oil blocks in Nigeria, but
Buhari owns none, yet he
stole and has a lot of
money.
General Buhari has all his
children go through and
still going through schools
in Nigerian public
universities till today. Yet
he stole huge money and
has a lot of money.
Unfortunately, General
Buhari lost one of his
daughters after she gave
birth to a child in a general
hospital in Kaduna, when
German hospitals and
Indian Hospitals has
become the 37th and 38th
state of Nigerian
politicians. Yet he stole
money and has a lot of
money.
General Buhari was in
Abuja on Wednesday with
a rickety jeep and when he
arrived from Kaduna some
mechanics had to come to
the CPC headquarters to do
some little work on the
engine of the jeep so it
could be able to take the
General back to Kaduna.
Honestly, I was ashamed
seeing that. Yet he stole a
lot of money and he has a
lot of money.
During the presidential
election, General Buharis
house in his home was
dilapidating and a Good
Samaritan employed
people to come and
renovate the house
without the consent of
General Buhari and he even
frowned at it when he saw
people come to renovate
his house without his
consent. Yet he stole a lot
of money and has a lot of
money.
Personally, General Buhari
has not given me a dime,
even a transport fare and I
have not seen him give
anyone, please if he has
given you prove me
wrong. Yet, he stole and he
has so much money. I was
at the inauguration of the
merger committee by
general Buhari on
Wednesday. No food was
served, not even a drink or
water. I was so hungry that
I have to look for where to
eat after the inauguration.
Yet he stole and has so
much money.
I have heard people say he
stole 52 big suit cases filled
with dollars or pounds and
that he stole 2.5 Billion
dollars, even though there
is not evidence and
subsequent governments
has investigated the issues
and confirmed it was
baseless and lack a single
truth. But I still think those
52 big suit cases filled with
pounds sterling’s and 2.5
Billion dollars are still in his
bedroom and the only
conclusion I have is that he
is keeping them to give to
his late grand fathers when
he finally goes to meet
them in death. Don’t you
think I am right?
Obasanjo, was worth less
than #1Million before he
became president in 1999,
I remember Pastor Bakare
said yesterday that he
helped to pay OBJs
children’s school fees when
he was in prison, but
today, OBJ has mansions,
oil blocks and billions with
his mega farm. Buhari has
none yet he stole money.
Abacha stole so much and
even when he is dead, the
family is still not able to
exhaust his loot and are
living big. Buharis family is
living with almost nothing,
yet he stole a lot of money.
IBB was one of those
buying PHCN during the
privatization by the federal
government. Atiku and co
owns private Universities,
OBJ owns one, and Minister
of Niger Delta owns 5
houses and may be more
in Abuja and many in
Dubai. Almost all former
heads of states and
presidents owns oil block
and refineries abroad.
Diezanni Allison the
minister of petroleum has
his children flying in
private jets abroad and
living expensive lives while
their mother is still here
flying private jets and you
know how many houses
she has got, but Buhari has
none, yet they told us he
stole so much, 52 big suit
cases filled with pounds
sterling’s and 2.5 Billion
Dollars still inside his
bedroom and he has not
spent a dime out of it. Then
he must be keeping it for
his late grand parents who
he will give when he finally
gets old and joins them in
death. Please ask this
government or anyone to
identify any house in
Abuja, Lagos or any other
place in Nigeria and the
whole world owned by
Buhari apart from his home
in Kaduna and his fathers
house so I will take over
them immediately or find
out any of his children
schooling abroad or any oil
block that he owns or any
expensive car that he
drives so I will be able to
take over them. I will be
very generous to share
them with you. I am just
using my tongue to count
my teeth now. I hope you
will still do the same thing
I am sure I have not
mentioned 2015
presidential election. If you
like to have headache or
give yourself stress, you
may mention or talk about
