Theres is temptation in almost everything and every profession including medicine.

That doesn't mean you should flee from temptation instead you pray to be delivered from temptation.

A Christian can be a gynaecologist when he upholds his Medical Ethics as well as pray against temptation.

Because my neighbour is a prostitute doesn't mean I should pack out of the house. Instead I'll pray to God to give me strength against temptation and possibly win her to Christ.

Or do you see going to a brothel for envagelism as a sin? You pray against temptation, you go with a partner, likewise O & G.. you pray then you work with a chaperone... Simple

Do you get my point?
Gynaecologists are Christians, pure and undefiled
I get your point sir. But I think your closing sentence should be "There are Christian gynaecologists who are pure and undefiled".

I'll have to believe in eternity to worry about my eternal future, don't you think so?
I see, you do not believe in eternity. You are entitled to your belief sir. But sir, that you do not believe in something does not delete it from existence. I would advise you to believe and go back to God (not religion). If you believe and you later die to find out that eternity is not real, you would have nothing to lose, do you? If on the other hand, you refuse to believe (repent, accept Christ's sacrifice on your behalf and make your ways right with God) and you die to find out to your chagrin that eternity is real, sir you would have made an eternally regretable mistake! Your anguish (God forbid) would be worsened by the fact that you once believed or was close to believing!! I pray you make the right decision now I J N, Amen.

Sorry sir, I assumed you were yet to be born again because of the way you tagged sinners in the Church 'born again' sarcastically. I thought you were being pessimistic and insinuating that no one is actually born again. This is actually the attitude many unbelievers I have come across have and demonstrate. That was why I had to correct this impression, encourage you to repent personally and accept Christ so that you can realise that salvation from sin is real and so that you can be used to convert the sinners. You could have simply given your opinion sir without giving a wrong impression about yourself. Back to my thread, I do not support gays, lesbians or any other atrocious people. Anyone who engages in such must quickly repent or else stands the risk of eternal damnation. In my candid opinion, a Christian should choose or be assisted to choose a profession that will not conflict with his/her faith or make him/her to be confessing sin now and then. If he/she is already in one that is not unscriptural but subject to temptations, he/she needs prayer and watchfulness at all times. Once again, I am sorry sir. I pray that God gives you the grace to fulfil your ministry I J N, Amen.

Sinkills,
I must say this again: hats off to you.
I've watched how you've carried yourself through the total onslaught of comments/attacks for you having a belief. You were slandered, maligned, criticized....left & right.
I learned something here. It's not "what's" thrown at one, but rather "how" one responds (regardless of the situation).
You sir, handled this like a true man of God (humility, class, gentleness, and grace etc). No way on Earth could you have replied like you have..unless Christ is with you. You aren't a "fake".
Thank you Lord for showing me that you still have some reserved...

Thank you very much ma for your commendation. May God help you and I to be consistent in our walk with God, fulfil our respective ministries and make it to heaven eventually I J N, Amen.

Sir, A doctor CANNOT qualify as a doctor (pass from school) without having STUDIED women anatomy. He or she must also learn to fully examine women of all ages and ALL body parts including sexual organs . He or she will be taught how to make appropriate diagnosis based on such findings. This series of steps in knowledge starts with 18 months or so of examining and cutting open dead bodies followed by studies on living bodies. During that period, ones mind will mature from seeing sexy bodies to bodies in need of repair. You are only allowing your imagination to paint a picture of a male doctor with his emotions troubling him when he sees a naked body. You will loose that notion rapidly, i can assure you, if you spend an hour in the labour room!
I am a born again Christian by the way and being so for the last 25years and by His grace, knowing Him more daily and I can assure you, i have seen naked bodies- male and female, whole, broken, mangled and diseased and i wake up daily thanking God for the grace to continue being a source of light to those He brings my way MALE or FEMALE!
Thank you very much sir for the explanations. I hope every other medical doctor is like you. May His grace abound in your life, may you be fulfilled in marriage, career, ministry and every other godly thing you engage in and make it to heaven eventually I J N, Amen.

Brother there is no amount of effort of any human that will take them to heaven, it is only by the grace. u cannot be too careful God perfect whom he wants to perfect. If there are no gynecologist and our women are suffering, who commit more sin? because Esekiel 8 vs 22 said are there no oil balm in Gilead are there no physician there why are my people dying in sickness. Gynecologists is like any other profession So be what u have passion for because u will sin less than when u go for what u did not like and u start regreting there by commiting more sin than u wanted to avoid
Sir, you are right, yet wrong. Our self efforts cannot save us, it is by grace as we repent and accept Christ by faith- true. But to claim that God perfects whom He wants to perfect, implying that God is partial is wrong sir. We are free moral agents - free to accept or reject Christ and the salvation He brings, and the consequences are ours. But your point on the role of gynaecologists is well understood. Thanks.

Professional gynaes don't go poking, proving and doing things outside their duties. So why can't a christian be a gynae? It will only become wrong when he begins to engage in inappropriate behaviour with patients.
You are right sir. That is exactly my point. My message is not for everybody. It is only for the born again male gynos. It so happens that I used a public forum like this as my medium of communication. The Bible says he that thinks he stands should be careful lest he fall. Satan is seriously after the fall of a born again Christian to prevent him/her from making heaven and also to bring reproach to the body of Christ. Thanks sir.

It doesn't work that way....when you see diverse breast and pussy everyday at work......saving a life will overshadow the fact you are touching the body of a woman.

My wife was in labour for two days and the doctor would come every now and then to check if the babies have turned. Every time he comes he would spread her legs and fumble with it the woman was in serious pain and we didnt want to do CS which of course we settled for later and Thanks to God for that. My wife is a shy person but she had no choice infact it got to a point th a t the doctor didnt have to ask her to spread before she did.

So is it wrong for a Christian man to save womens lives? Whether as a doctor or not.

Youve got to know thst this doctors have seen so many virginas that it doesn't frick them again. Not to talk of having erection. They are used to seeing it as they see blood everyday.

I see nothing wrong in a Christian man being a Gynaecologist.

YES!!!!!

I'm a gynae and an intimate examination is just a process in aiding diagnosis and management!!

Different shapes and sizes are seen and palpated daily. S..exx advice is given on several occasions.... at least advice given is based on the woman's needs, anatomy and physiology not some recycled nonsense sometimes printed in the glossies.

I've got lady friends who are urologists, andrologists and sexual+reproductive health consultants who examine male w.illies daily--- Are they committing a sin or at risk of such??

Durhhhh...

Ethics is the word here!!
Good ethics determine you don't treat your patient in a sexual manner no matter how tempting the organ's appearance or how willing she/ he may appear to be for an illicit affair!!!!....

Its so serious, you risk being struck off the register of the local regulatory body!!!!!!

No vagina/ penis (as applicable) is worth all that trouble!!!!!

.
This is very insightful and interesting. Most professionals would not engage in unethical practice in order not to be disqualified or lose their license. Even at that, some still fall prey. How I pray that as we value our earthly careers, we will in the same vein value our relationship with God and eternal destiny much more. Thank you very much sir for your wonderful contribution.

You sir are a disgrace to Christianity and are no different from the Pharisees. The Bible says a man who looks at a woman lustfully commits adultery and vice versa, the question to ask is does a woman have to be naked to look at her lustfully?
If the answer is no, then Men and women should not live in the same town/country together because a man be him a doctor, banker, lawyer or teacher would see females and there's a possiblity for lust to creep in.
Thanks for the insult. It doesn't change anything about me. A woman does not need to be naked for you to lust after her but here we are talking about treating people of the opposite sex who need to be unclad and that puts one in a precarious position to lust. My thread is not a judgement on medical staff but a counsel from loving heart directed at people who have salvation and their purity to protect in order not to endanger their souls. It is an opinion, not a doctrine. I believe there are people who see it this way and appreciate it accordingly. Thanks.

9jakohai:

grin

Ok...where does one start....

1.I am a doctor, and also a christian too.

2.I am not a gyanecologist, but as a doctor, I have had to examine hundreds of women in my professional life.

3.Have I been sexually aroused by any of them? No...and I will tell you why

First, most of the women who come to hospital are sick and in pain. And they need help sorting out that pain. And we need to find out what is causing that pain too..

For example, I had a young woman come to me with a Bartholin's cyst. We needed to do a vaginal examination, and eventually to operate on her. Were we comitting sin by doing so?

I have also had a woman come to me with pain in her breast. We examined her...and it turned out to be breast cancer (sadly metastasized, so too late for her). At no time did I have thoughts of s..x in my mind.

I also had to pass a cathether for a seriously ill, HIV positive patient, stage 4, in the ward. That meant looking at her private part (inavoidable) and at no time was I aroused. (Infact, for your info, the private part was seiously diseased. Nothing arousing over there!).

So.....at the end of the day...if we were to follow your doctrine brother....christians would not need to be doctors at all!

Let me repeat myself.....Christians would not need to be doctors at all. Because in your mind...every christian doctor is a sinner.!

Second.... as a Christian, we are TEMPTED every day. I am in my thrities, and I am a virgin (Some people on Nairaland are going to laugh at me...now that I have outed myself haha smiley). Thank God I have kept myself pure. It is God ....because every day, I am TEMPTED. The thing is not to allow the temptation to take over you. King David was punished for sleeping with bathsheba, not for being tempted by her. Joseph too was tempted by Potiphar'swife...but he ran away.

Third....our job as doctors is not to look at beautiful bodies every day, and feed our fantasies. No. Our job is to cure sick people. And let me tell you...that is what is on our mind every day. So...if a woman comes to me complaining of pain in her breast, the thought on my mind is not that I am going to touch some beautiful stuff....but that it better not be that I examine the breast and find cancer there. If a woman comes to me saying she is itching in her private part...the thought in my mind is that it is not something as serious as genital warts....which I have seen in one HIV positive woman...very scary....but that it is something innocous that we can treat.

Brother.....your problem is that you are mixing temptation with actual sin. You think that when you are tempted, you are sinning. No. Better stop worrying about how you are tempted every day. Better go and pray to God to deliver you from temptaiton, and the evil one....and go and do his will. Dont worry about sin too much. God is there to help you.

Modified....One more story

During my student days, when I was doing my O and G posting, one elegant 40 year old woman came into the gynae's office where I and five other students were. She was complaining of constant bleeding from her private part. Minute we students heard that, we just felt...bad. Examination.....she had cancer of the private part. When we left that office....all that was on our mind was "Wow...that woman is in trobule"
OK. Good analysis. But for your information, I know the basic difference between temptation and sin. Lust is not temptation, it is sin. But thank God for you. I pray you keep your head high and never be fall into sin I J N, Amen.

Let believers be guided by the scriptures as well as by knowledge.

The human brain works in such a way that one activity shuts down one's focus on another.

Notwithstanding, knowledge is no match for emotion.

Therefore, those who naturally are easily beset by sexual temptations should let nature tutor them on drawing the line on this issue.

They shouldn't practice gynaecology.
I think you are making sense sir.

It is not what they 'believe' or claim that matters. What a person does and practices shows what he/she believes. Does he/she obey Christ? Then he/she should have repented and surrendered his/her life to Christ as personal Lord and Saviour. Then he/she should regularly gatter with other Christians for worship and to be taught the ways of the Lord. He/she should join others in evangelism to win others to Christ etc. Claiming we 'believe in Jesus' too even more than Christians is neither here nor there. Thank you.

It's not his position, he's projecting it as the Christian position, which you can see in the title of the thread.
If he presented it as his position, I wouldn't mind.
But presenting it as the Christian position is what I'm against.
Though I'm no longer a practicing Christian, I have colleagues who are practicing Christians and Pastors and General Overseers of churches and what he is pushing is an insult to them and outright false doctrine and you know this.
That he gets aroused at the sight of any naked female doesn't mean that other Christians are like him.
Well, you got me wrong. My motive is not to insult any Christian rather to caution. You are after protection of their integrity. I am after protecting their eternal security. So I guess I love them more than you profess to do or don't think so? As for advocating a false doctrine, I wonder what is false about encouraging fellow brethren in the medical field to be wary of the possibility of lust and sin. BTW, why are you no longer a practising Christian? Please I want to know.

It's akin to beating an already dead horse.

However, I'll leave you with the following:

Romans 6:1&2
"Shall we then continue in sin that grace may abound?
Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?"

Galatians 5:13
"For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."

2 Timothy 2:19
"Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”and, “Everyone who names/confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.”

Well she is entitled to her opinion. However, such points stated ain't scriptural.

A professional and godly doctor medically practices SOLELY to treat the sick and save lives to the best of his ability; and not to sexually molest his patients in order to satisfy his lust. Clearly, someone with the latter mindset doesn't even know God.

If you are in the position to save a woman's life as a trained male gynaecologist, pls & pls, do not hesitate to render assistance in that regard. God will surely bless you greatly for serving humanity with a pure heart.

Whether we like it or not and in so far as we are still alive in this sinful world, our eyes will always see the good, the bad and the unpleasant (unless you want to pluck 'em out). That is why the Holy Bible admonishes us to guard our hearts diligently because it determines the course of our life.

Note that you don't have to be a doctor to see/witness evil/temptation. However, if you as a person know that your faith is weak, then, I'd advise you abstain from any act that can further dampen the little faith you have.
I think I agree with you on this.

There's nothing wrong using a knife to cut vegetables, but there's everything wrong in using a knife to slit someone's throat.

It's all about intent.

A woman's nakedd body should not be regarded for lust only.
That body consists of blood vessels, nerves, muscles and if something goes wrong it needs to be fixed.
EXAMINING IS DIFFERENT FROM FONDLIiNG!

Even as a student, you must work with dead bodies, and cut every part of the body open to understand how the body works.

Even the woman with issue of blood went to Jesus(man)
. So what's your problem sir?
You are quite correct that a woman's body should not be regarded for lust only. You imply that lust is possible but shouldn't be the only goal of a gynaecologist. My thread is to ensure that lust is prevented from being part of the objectives, knowingly or inadvertently. As for the woman with the issue of blood who went to Jesus for healing, there was no case of perusing her nudity or handling of any part of her sensitive organs. So it is over the bar. I don't have any problem with you. I'm only passing a message to my fellow believers to beware. I believe they understand. I don't know how that offends you personally sir. How can anybody say a Christian shouldn't be a gynaecologist?
It's a branch of medicine for Gods sake.
What nonsense.
I'm tired of Nigerians messed up religious mentality

To those who have salvation/relationship with God which they so much cherish and purity of heart which must never be defiled, the post is very sensible sir. Thank you.

Should a born again lady who is transformed by salvation in Christ be a urologist who mainly handle penis and check men's anal canal?
What is bad for the goose is equally bad for the gander. Purity and holiness of life is a requirement for both men and women, boys and and girls to make heaven. Thank you sir.

Sinkills is not different from a Islam extremist (aka boko haram).
People like him can kill for religion like his counter religion
You are not far from the truth sir. The Boko Haramites and myself have something in common! They hate and physically kill their human enemies whereas I and my fellows hate sin and desire that it be killed in the lives of people so that it will not kill them eventually in eternal hell. Can you see the similarities and differences now sir?
