I hope the pilots were safe....
SHOPPING LIST FOR THE FRONTLINES.
A few months ago, defence blog, Beegeagle., reported that the President, GEJ, had requested that the National Assembly release 1bn dollars for the campaign going on in the North East..we were all estatic and greeted the news with joy...News trickling in, first as rumours, that an Mi-35 Gunship of the NAF. Had crashed has now been confirmed..Makes one wonder, will USD1bn be enough? Here is a "list" of things urgently needed at the frontlines..Mr President, if you are reading this, attend to the plight of your men from your position as Commander-in-Chief...Sir, its time to disregard analysis of ppl who are just trying to keep their jobs by saying that all is well..Sir, all is not well at all for the past 2 months..BH has continued to isolate military units and storm camps in their hundreds..Pls sir...this is what is urgently needed..
1. NVGs for all SF teams operating behind enemy lines...their work is suicidal..yet they go into the Night with songs of praises for the Army..they need NVGs.
2. Tavor rifles for all SF teams in the N.E: Sir, the cameroonian BIR troops, when engaging BH in gun battles, use rifles so accurate, its like taking candy from a baby..our SF teams too need Tavors.
3. Changing from 3mags per man system..Sir, some of the Bulletproof vests, do not have pouches for ammo..pls sir, Mag pouches are urgently need to be worn over vests without pouches...3mags in a gunfight is too small sir, especially with a weapon as inaccurate as an AK..at least, 6 mags per man.
4.Replacing all Hilux vehicles with MRAPs and APCs and relegating Hilux vehicles to mobile supply vehicles..
5.Needed infantry systems: AGLs, UGLs for AKs, NV binoculars, more desert camos, knee pads, elbow pads, and more importantly, ATGMs.
6. Firepower needed: at least 300 BMP-2s along with 600-100 Zsu-23-2 mounted guntrucks...For offensive operations...troops are tired of always defending bases..
7.Handheld drones: even Kenyan troops field them..for Company level surveillance.
8. Mosquito nets, desert goggles, and handcuffs.
9. Prayers of Nigerians.

Thank You.

bidexiii: . Those top military rednecks r funny why would a mil35 gunship will be training in an hostile and volatile region ? We r not full s!!! We all know what happen its normal in war that both side loses in terms of personel, eguipment and machineries. We r just waking up to the reality of with it means to win a war . That is why our procurement power must be strong. We,ve lost one of our gundship's ... Hmmmm a minus one out of few . That is why our politicians must wake up to these call and also we've also lost some brave pilots !
Bama is a BH hotbed..Trainning mission? Diaris God o..When we say that they should stop buy hardware in 2s and 3s, they won't hear..Algeria operates 35 active gunships..after all the hype, NAF bought just 6...agains insurgents armed with Dshks? Why can't we buy 35-50 units, establish a squadron of 80 of the best gunship pilots we have, and deploy the squadron to the N.E?

Sirius has rekindled our hope in a military victory.

Although it pains me I was denied the previledge to fight.
We are all warriors in this battle...not all soldiers carry guns...30 years from now when we have scaled through this Boko madness, generations still unborn now, will read the comments, suggestions of all keyboard troops involved in this fight...Oga Eastern...you av made more contributions top this war effort than you would have if you were off somewhere carrying a gun..

afube: The bare essence of any COIN operation is to CONSTRICT AND CONSTRAIN two things that are of inestimable value to the likes of boko haram, these are TIME AND SPACE!! To do this, methinks the young, virile and strong males of gwoza, bags, damboa etc.who in my view are better suited to be screened and recruited into the army asap.....besieged Biafra turned 16 and 17year olds into fighting men in 4weeks max,we can comfortably recruit and train 50,000 borno men and volunteers from elsewhere to increase the boots on the ground.these 50,000 new recruits should be deployed on the ground to provide defense for the far off and isolated towns that boko haram love to feast upon, the extremely isolated hamlets should be evacuated please....the new troops allied with our more experienced troops armed with tanks and artillery should effectively deny boko haram of the SPACE,they seem to enjoy now.
To deny boko haram the value of TIME,the army has to go on the offensive, this is where we will need the new equipment FG wants to provide, attack helicopters, the super tucano planes, alpha jets ,special forces ,paratroopers etc. but such forces must be effectively marshaled and deployed by our generals.

If we fail to deny boko haram the values of SPACE AND TIME now, they may capture maiduguri in a few weeks time......we have to act now
That is quite unlikely...Nigerian Forces have successfully pushed the insurgents out of Maiduguri itself...Maiduguri is now relatively peaceful at last...Now the fighting has moved to the large expanses of land of the North East.

As una dey butcher the anticipated $1Billion Loan, nobody mention anything about setting aside at least $1 Million to Overhaul Military Signals oh, na why I dey talk!
Ipads with Googles Maps are superb, but the Military must follow this up with Ulta-Modern Communications Gadgets!
When Russia Invaded South Ossetia, they Jammed all the Communications of the Georgian Military cutting off relay of info vertically and horizontally, sometimes ordering Georgian Units into Ambushes and even getting them to attack themselves! We saw the Speed at which Victory was achieved!
Yes! Ours isn't a Conventional War bla bla bla, but then! If the Military can dole out a good sum in Training some of the Boys in this regard, they will find it easy to integrate the Signals of the division at the Cheapest effective cost maximising the little we have!
If they have moles within Us, nothing wrong in listening in on their lil' chit-chats also! Its been found to have a calming effect on Soldiers on Patrol sef!

Sirius, hope say Una don chop night food!
Let's just hope that military intelligence is working o!

komekn:

Really concerned in fact appalled to my bones that our brave troops are going through hostile waters with no cover in open locally made wooden boats, that outboard engine makes such a racket you could be heard for miles.

In that thing your simply SITTING DUCKS what you need is amphibious APC ‘s I could pick up 200 BTR 60’s in bulk from a host of former eastern bloc countries I’m sure in bulk with good negotiation at $20k a unit bring them into Nigeria a bit of refurbishment and they are good to go , not the best but 100 hundred times better than those suicide boats we are in now.

Furthermore with minimal upgrades thermal and night vision sites attached to 20mm you can engage boko on the water and chase him on land rout him out completely from Chad basin TOTAL ANNIHILATION, further more in the water your silhouette is very low really hard to hit, as well as the fact the BTR 60 has got fairly decent armour for 1980’s tech.

I am talking about winning this war on the cheap but with effective assets that will give our boys clear cut advantage. I could have 200 BTR 60’s fully armed and in theatre for less than $5million including logistics.

Disgustingly perverse when you think of it less than what Stella spent on her armoured BMW’s with our public money, for her to ride in the serene comfort and relative safety of Abuja while our brave boys roast and die in the NE.

Sometimes I TIRE 4 9JA
Honestly, the thing tire me o!...to think that troops still ride around in Hilux vehicles is just beyond me...In a country as rich as Nigeria? Is Diezani's 9bn naira private jet trips not enough to buy NVGs for 75percent of our troops at the front? Or to replace the AKs with Tavors? This Government sef...

That photo is from the Army's Niger Delta campaign..just before the amnesty programme..I've had the photo as far back as 2008...was posted on Skyscrapercity Forum...That photo has nothing to do with the North Eastern Campaign..PLEASE VERIFY PHOTOS BEFORE POSTING...I'm PLEADING..Google Images is not a very accurate source of photos.Let's keep photos here as accurate as possible...This is ENTIRELY dedicated to the North Eastern Campaign...Only photos of Army operations there is allowed..Also, if you want to post photos of weapons systems not in the N.E campaign, just post the link..PLS ABIDE BY THE RULES.

HandOfChukwu: Exactly, I don't know exactly why it's always the dumbest possible leaders that get into power here in Nigeria but it must stop, we have the highest GDP in Africa..yet we cant afford to spend $250 million to buy 1000 MRAPS or just $25 million like you said to buy 100 of the best tanks in the world from Germany, where does the money go? Under Goodluck Jonathan's hat? That would explain why he always has that same dirty hat on anyway.
Well, the Minister of State For Defence said that "Huge" acquisitions are underway..Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Oga Sirius,
One cannot doubt your patriotism to Nigeria and I understand your aim to provide sincere answers to all these classified weapons questions.
But as a soldier, you know first hand that when the enemy knows your plan, strategy and type of weapons, you be walking into a deadly trap.

Some of these people asking about weapons are Boko Haram. I am getting uncomfortable the way you answer them. This now borders on national security.
Noted sir...But I doubt that I have given out any classified info on army operations..The Bigfoot MRAP was first viewed by Nigerians on National TV and not even here...also we have defence blogs like Beegeagle. that also assess Military hardware and make recommendations for better equipment..all weapons specs I have given here are things you can get on Google...As for "classified" info...Nothing of that nature has been discussed here.
