@ dayokanu,

I wasnt really into Shooting Stars again, after the balubalu n t'afin show of shame at the Liberty Stadium Ibadan in 1984 (Shootings Stars vs Zamalek of Egypt). In 1995/96, I was occupied with my wedding plans, so football was off my schedule then, as I was here and there.

Do you still remember these Shooting Stars Players: Olumide Harris, Ademola Bankole, Wasiu Taiwo, Kennedy Boboye, Patrick Ovie, David Ogaga, Taofeek Malik, Patrick Pascal and Bosun Ayeni to mention a few?

All,

I hail you o. Keep up the flag flying, there's no day that I dont read your posts. Thanks

@ dayokanu,

Tarila Okorowanta played for Shooting Stars. His indiscipline level then was really bad, as his behaviour was like what Etim Esin did later. He absconded to Italy when Shooting Stars went to Tunisia to play in an African Champions Cup match in 1984. He's actually a very talented dribbler in the mould of Esin and Okocha.

@ Poster,

I believe the time you called him, MTN network was at its worst then. It could be that your call was mistakenly connected to another subscriber, whom unknowingly to you, you assumed is the guy and gave yourself away while discussing business with him. I'm not proving you wrong please. I know him personally, as I've bought many things from him without even seeing him physically. I cant call out where I am presently, but just sent sms to him from my web account to respond to the allegations. Most times I've spoken with him was on the same MTN number you quoted. Sure he'll respond soon.
Politics / Re: Between Yorubas And Ghanaians: What Is The Problem? by SirKay3(m): 5:12pm On Oct 10, 2011
There's no problem between Yorubas and Ghanaians, whether in Nigeria or Ghana. I live in Ghana and I know what I'm talking about. The story about Kwara and Ondo State goverments deporting Ghanaians was about 4months ago, which has been discussed here and threads closed. Issues about Ghana or Nigeria shouldnt be a tribe thing please. We are raising un-necessary noise about little issues. No insult please. Shalom.

Properties / Re: Challenge Unfair Rent Hike: Lagos State Govt Urged Tenants by SirKay3(m): 7:55am On Sep 26, 2011
Double standard on rent edict. Why exempting landlords in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ikeja GRA and some other highbrow areas from the rent edict? This is bound to fail. Since the law is for Lagos State landlords, it must be made to apply to all.

Highbrow areas exempted from Lagos tenancy law

On September 19, 2011 · In Law & Human Rights
,

By Yinka Kolawole

Property located in highbrow areas and those occupied by some commercial outfits are exempted from the operations of the recently enacted Lagos tenancy law.

Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, gave reasons for this at a business luncheon recently organised by the Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors & Valuers (NIESV) in Ikeja.

According to him, government deliberately exempted certain class of property, especially those occupied by banks and other commercial outfits from the tenancy law, as well as those in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, Apapa and Ikeja GRA, because it is believed that those living in such areas have higher bargaining power than those in other areas of the state.

He said the law was made to safeguard the interests of both the tenants and landlords in the state, and is not rent control legislation, adding that government is open to amending appropriate areas of the law where such can impact positively on the larger society. He noted that government will soon issue an executive order to address conflicting areas like fixed term lease, renting of warehouses and other commercial properties in the law.

The commissioner said that the tenancy law was government’s way of striking a balance between the interests of the landlords and tenants in the state, noting that abound of landlords suffering in the hands of tenants, who exploit the loopholes in the existing laws to live in a house without paying for it.

“Government is duty bound to protect the life and property of every citizen because we cannot encourage a situation where people take laws into their hands. I quarrel with that line of thinking that seems to suggest that we are not matured for that kind of legislation. It is like saying the government should create an ideal situation before the citizenry starts abiding by certain standards of behaviour. Even in advanced countries, they don’t get it right at first before they enact a law.

“The law protects the landlord against troublesome, sit-tight tenants. It also protests the tenant from unreasonable demands of some landlords. “The essence of the law is to ensure that all citizens are protected by the state,” he said.

Ipaye cited a case where a tenant stayed in a particular house for 15 years without paying to his landlord, exploiting the lapses in the judicial system due to stay of execution which deprived the landlord the use of his property. He argued that when a prospective tenant is seeking accommodation and he is made to pay advance rent, he would squeeze his family and acquaintances to raise the initial sum and, henceforth, may not be able to pay leading to altercation between the parties.

“If you can build a house with N50 million, is it the two years rent that will enable you offset the cost of your building? People are ready to pay the initial sum and then go to court afterwards; this enables tenants stay on a property though they are in default because they exploit the various loopholes in law.”

The commissioner emphasized that the law is not about rent control. “It must be noted that the law is not rent control legislation. The law however controls indiscriminate rent increase. A sitting tenant may apply to the court for an order declaring that the increase in rent payable under his tenancy agreement is unreasonable.

“However, in coming to a determination as to what is reasonable, the court will consider, among other things, the general level of rent for comparable premises in the locality.

The provision, therefore, protects the interest of both the landlord and the tenant. This is the aspect of the law that has arguably generated the most commentary. To start with, it must be made clear that the law is not rent control legislation.

Unlike its predecessors, it does not stipulate what should be the rent to respect of transaction. That is subject to the agreement of the parties. What the law does is to prohibit the demand of more than six months rents from monthly tenant and one year rent from a sitting yearly tenant. In respect of new tenancy, one-year rent is the maximum allowed to be demanded or received under the law,” he stated.

Gbawe & Ricky_Ross,

Kudos. Been reading through all your posts, I think it's high time we let this matter die silently. No matter the amount of facts that you give here can clear the issue of how Ghanaians, though not all of them, have issues with Nigerians living in Ghana. Let's just let go of this thread permanenetly now please.

jrtorrents,

Pleading with you and other Ghanaians here to take it easy and let us stop all these. I live in Ghana with my wife and kids (been here since 2009). My kids attends Datus, Tema. We've got business set up in Lashibi, before Shallom Spot and living in Community 19 (Hon Minister Alban Bagbin lives in the same community with me). We all know what your some of your people used to say about Nigerians, but forgetting the fact that Ghana too has her problems. What Gbawe and Ross have said so far is the truth, though you might not want to admit it. Ghana cannot do without Nigeria.

I do hear the comments once in a while, but my matter is like this: The person who went to the market does not listen to market noise, rather the business he's in the market for. Mine is to live peacefully here, according to the laws of Ghana and when it's the right time for me/family to move back home, we do peacefully too.

Arguing and name calling cant take us anywhere. Instead we all should unite as Africans to stop the second subtle slavery methods that the silly obronis are bringing back into our midst.

Thread should be closed please.

Shallom.

All,

Let's not turn this small thing into another thing entirely. What do we stand to gain from Ghana is this, Nigeria is that. The two countries have their flaws, so are the citizens. Let's preach unity, not division. I live in Ghana with my wife and kids and loving it here, while there are so many Ghanaians living in Nigeria that are enjoying their stay too.

Let's stop all the insults please.
Politics / Re: "Thank God We're Not Nigerians" New Hit Song From Ghanian Singers by SirKay3(m): 5:43pm On Aug 05, 2011
What a song! I'm a Nigerian, living in Ghana, Community 20, Lashibi to be precise and I've not heard this song on any of the radio station at all. The guys in question are trying to use the usual Naija/Ghana beef to get their CD sold, because they know the way people react to issues when it's got to do with the two countries. We should leave them alone and let them enjoy cheap publicity while it lasted. Dont let us exchange abusive words becasue of this song please.

Afterall, Nigerians dont know the thing and Ghana is teaching us the thing.

i do not blame anyone but the deportees themselves. what are they still doing in nigeria. a country where they easly throw bombs at will for no reson to kill inocent people and any of you could be killed anytime ?

this is very disgusting cos most of the nigerian citizens themselves are hiding their nigerian nationality anywhere they go due to the hatred they have created for themselves.

however the deportees must be checked if they are not involved in any activities that are agaist the laws of that contry, otherwise they will leave to regret this.

What? Nigerians are really ungrateful. I can't believe what am reading. I wish we could bring Busia back to take care of these ungrateful Nigerians. This is just unbelievable.
If anyone had said that looking at the way things are between Ghana and Nigeria today, such a thing would happen, I wouldn't believe it. An ungrateful person cannot be a friend.

What might have triggered this? Is it our recent victory over them on the football field? That was just a game but even that the ungratefuls claimed we used juju.

What is our government doing about this. Ministry of Interior please take note. There are thousands of Nigerians in Ghana today taking refuge as we once did and were sent packing during the Shagari era, Nigeria continue to mess with us and take our hospitality for granted. There is no ECOWAS for greater West Africa. What does the ECOWAS states, any member of ECOWAS could stay in any West African country for at least 90 day and he or she decides to extend their stay regularize their paper. Are all the Nigerians trooping to Ghana to do business legally in Ghana. This deportation of our citizens cannot continue.

Is it time we sent them back to where they came from. Ghana is too friendly even to her "enemies". Nigerians have taken over almost every facet of our lives in Ghana and yet still we look on unconcerned. They steal, rob, rape, and insult us in our own land. Now look at how they are treating us?

Look, it is time we send these ungrateful lot back to their basket case country. This is very annoying, to put it mildly. How friendly can we be to gain their reciprocity?

I think the Government of Ghana should also deport nigerians from Ghana espercially those traders at Okaishie biscuit lane and opera square. Also no nigerian should be allowed to cross the Ghanaian border at Aflao. No nigerian plane should also be made to land in Ghana. Who do these nigerians think they are? They are stealing and misbehaving in our country. They shoul be made to go back to their 'chaka chaka' country
Travel / Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by SirKay3(m): 5:23pm On Jul 25, 2011
This is condemnable. GEJ must act fast on this, to get those deported back to Nigeria. Obanikoro is already aware and promised to act fast on this. Agreed, some Ghanaians do ask their government to send Nigerians back home, but this is because of bad acts of some of our guys in Ghana. I live in Ghana and I know how things are here. We should use BB broadcast to stop this barbaric acts on the part of Ondo and Kwara state governments.

@ londoner, I read it here. They were deported because those state governments were trying to act against Boko Haram people. Oshi o da.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Alhaji Musiliu Obanikoro, in an interview with Daily Guide, condemned the action of the governors, describing it as the work of overzealous public officials.

He promised wading into it with the view to reviewing the trend. “If it really happened, we would take action to remedy the situation. Ghana and Nigeria cannot afford to return to the old days. Our relations have improved so much that we cannot afford to allow a few officials to cause friction between us. I would take action. I condemn it in totality and would get to the bottom of it,” he said.

Regarding the suspicion that the governors were responding to the danger posed by the extreme Islamic grouping, Boko Haram, he said Ghana does not have Islamic extremists
