They confirmed the numbers on their own, cos I heard their interviews LIVE.

@ stormm,

I understand how militants works in Naija, cos I was once an employee of a major oil company in Naija. All I've posted here so far were what the guys said on the radio, when they were interviewed. I'm still monitoring it all.

Their spokesman confirmed that they were ex-militants. About four of them were brought to the studio of Joy FM yesterday morning for interaction and to tell the whole world their mission in Ghana.

They said they wanted to use Ghana as a base to negotiate their amnesty issue with Naija Govt, just like it was when Aburi accord deal between Biafra and Naija Govt was struck years ago.

I believe Naija High Commission people, Ghana's BNI and Ghana Government are working on this for now.

@ SLIGHT,

How are you doing? I'm a very respected person here on NL, most contributors on sports threads could testify to that. I'm not after stiring any still waters, nor any propaganda please.

I'm a Nigerian living here in Ghana with my wife and children and I know what have been said and still to be said about us here. The headline was used as I read it in their dailies and heard on the radio here.

For your information, the word invade doesn't necessarily mean starting war please. Here are meanings of invade from the dictionary that I copied for you to read and understand better.

in·vade [in váyd]

@ tpiah,

I don't think there's any agreement like that. I heard them all speak LIVE this evening on Joy FM here, nobody mentioned anything like that. What gave me concerns was the fact that the spokesman for them said he heard that some of them are already behaving unruly here and needed something to be done by Naija government to address the situation as soon as possible.

May God help us o.

All,

I live in Accra, Ghana and this is what I just read on myjoyonline.com and heard LIVE on JoyFM in Accra, Ghana some minutes ago. A Nigerian High Commission officer, Mr Oyekanmi, the Niger Delta's representative, Mr Okporoko and some security personnels were asked to talk about this.

Mr Oyekanmi said since there is peace in the Niger Delta, they have no basis of relocating to Ghana and that they should go back to Naija to solve things with the goverment. Mr Okporoko said they are here not for violence or perpertrate crimes, but that they wanted to use Ghana as a base to sort out amnesty with Naija goverment. The security personnels interviewed asked that they, should be repatriated back quickly, else things could go haywire later security wise for Ghana, which I'm strongly in support of.

What are your views on the way to get this resolved peacefully and urgently.

BNI summons Niger Delta leader

Last Updated: Tuesday, 15 June 2010, 13:0 GMT Previous Page

Mr. Okproko alleges over 3,000 Nigerian militants are in Ghana.

The Chronicle newspaper reports that the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has waded strongly into the allegations of the influx of over 3,000 Nigerian militants from the Niger Delta into Ghana.

According to our reports, the BNI, after the Chronicle’s publication, swiftly summoned the President of the Niger Delta Community in Ghana, Mr. Francis Okproko, last Friday to validate the claims of the number and militants trooping into the country.

At the meeting with officials of the BNI, the Chronicle gathered that Mr. Okproko was asked to provide a lead to his claim to enable the government come to their aid.

Mr. Okproko, according to the paper, in his humble submission, revealed that he exaggerated the numbers and that he had no evidence to support the allegations of militants from the Niger Delta entering Ghana.

He indicated, however that he had registered an association in the country, with 100 members, with the view to advancing amnesty programs for Niger Deltans resident in Ghana.

It was gathered that the last time his association met, with 16 members in attendance out of 100, they discussed, among others a means of getting their concerns to the government of Ghana, since the Nigerian High Commissioner was allegedly not being sensitive to their plight.

Initially, he told the BNI that they used to meet at this private residence at Teshie, but he had now relocated to Achimota.

“He told us that he has no evidence to support his allegations about the number of militants in the nation. He said he was just doing it to get the attention of Ghana government to help them get audience with the Nigerian authorizes, because the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana has failed to address their welfare in Ghana.

"He further told us that there are no militants among the people”, a source at the BNI hinted the chronicle.

It was further gathered that Mr. Okporoko frankly stated that the basis of their allegations was because of the frustrations they had been going through at the hands of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

Francis, after the discussions, however pledged to provide the list of the names of his 100 members to the BNI by the close of day Monday. The Chronicle learnt that Francis told the officials that he was making the noise, because the Nigerian High Commission had shown a total lack of interest in their welfare.

Mr. Okporoko confirmed in chat with the Chronicle that he was invited by the BNI to provide them proof of his allegations. According to him, he met the officials and insisted that when given the opportunity, he would supply the BNI with the numbers.

Mr. Okproko had earlier raised the red flag over an influx of Nigerians from the troubled Niger Delta region into Ghana. This development, he said, makes him uncomfortable, knowing its implication for the country if these people are not properly managed.

He had hinted The Chronicle that there were about 3,000 people from the region who had migrated to Ghana.

The Niger Delta is an unstable area of Nigeria, often greeted with violence for access to oil resources, which leads to the regular vandalism of oil pipelines, kidnapping and other violent crimes by impoverished residents.

Mr. Okproko noted that information reaching his good self indicated that some of the immigrants from the Delta Region had begun to form gang groups in the country.

He noted that since the devil finds work for idle hands, he petitioned the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana about the development and the need to have these people properly managed, so they don’t foment trouble in the country, but according to him, all efforts to have audience with the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, to have these people covered under a post amnesty program, had proved futile. “Should we wait until they start committing crimes before we do something?” he queried.

But the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana dismissed the allegation, when the Chronicle contacted them on the issue. Mr. O. Adedapo Oyekamnmi, Minister of State at the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, told The Chronicle that there was no crisis situation in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, and that claims of the influx of Niger Deltans into Ghana has no empirical basis.

“There is now peace, stability and tranquility in the Niger Delta, because all the known leaders for Movement for Restoration for Equity and for Justice in the Niger Delta that lead arms struggle against the Federal Government had laid down their arms and are communicating with the Nigerian government. That was the point we were at when our late president died,” he stated.

He added that even after the death of the president, the Federal Government amnesty program and peace initiative in the Niger Delta had not changed.

“So we are still perusing peace there; there is peace in the Niger Delta; there is relative calm and peace in the Niger Delta," he reiterated.

Arsenal Comment:
Five Radical Changes Arsene Wenger Must Make To Stay In The Title Race
Goal.com/en-gb/teams/england/97/man-utd">

To lose to Manchester United is one thing. To lose in the spineless manner that 1 hour, 6 minutes ago
PrintTo lose to Manchester United is one thing. To lose in the spineless manner that Arsenal did last weekend, another.

If Arsenal are to keep their title hopes alive, they need a result against Chelsea on Saturday. Not only to get points on the board, but to prove to themselves that they have what it takes to be champions.

Belief seems to melt away from this Arsenal side when confronted by the big boys. Since last season’s Champions League semi-final when they went out to Manchester United without a bang, there has been plenty of whimpering - not least when Chelsea brushed aside the Gunners last time they met in a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the Emirates.

If Saturday’s game and the season's remainder are to be less painful for Arsenal, then Arsene Wenger needs to make some tough decisions.

He may want to start here…

1. PLAN B (FOR BENDTNER)

Three seasons ago, Arsenal were criticised for having no Plan B. Then Adebayor changed all that. His muscular presence in attack meant the Gunners were able to add a direct dimension to their game.

Without a target man, however, Arsenal are once again becoming too predictable. Nicklas Bendtner may not have ability of the Togolese, but there’s enough goals in the rest of the team to make up for his shortcomings.

Against Chelsea, the burly Dane could prove crucial when it comes to the physical battle. Last time around, with Arshavin spearheading the attack, John Terry and his defensive colleagues enjoyed a leisurely afternoon. But utilise Bendtner correctly and the whole side would benefit. Not least, the little Russian, who could go back to doing what he does best: terrorising defences with the ball at his feet.

2. GIVE THEM THE HAIRDRYER TREATMENT

It worked at half-time against Liverpool, so why not try it again, Arsene? Perhaps it’s not the Frenchman’s style, but then again, perhaps these players aren’t quite the self-starters he once had them pegged for.

In the first 45 minutes at Anfield, they displayed the same lacklustre approach as they did against United last weekend. On that occasion, Wenger - who rarely says more than a few choice words in the dressing room - launched into a half-time tirade. The result? Arsenal went from being 1-0 down to winning the game 2-1.

It appears that a good old-fashioned rollocking still works. If Arsenal are to win the title then Wenger must not forget to pack his hairdryer for Stamford Bridge.

3. ALMUNIA OUT, FABIANSKI IN

Almunia has long been a joke for non-Arsenal fans; the hapless 'Spanish waiter' who dreams of playing for England. But Gunners fans were happy to take the jibes last season while their bleached blond No.1 quietly put together a string of credible performances.

This term, however, Manuel is looking faulty again. The side have managed only eight clean sheets all season – that’s less than Birmingham. Much of this is down to the keeper and the lack of faith his team-mates seem to have in him. (Rumours have it that he and William Gallas don’t see eye to eye – but then again, it doesn’t take much to fall out with the fiery Frenchman.)

Lucasz Fabianski hasn’t exactly proved faultless so far but a run in the team, starting with the game against Chelsea, would at least see Wenger prove to the fans he is still trying to change things for the better.

4. CLICHY OUT, CAMPBELL IN

Everyone’s entitled to one stinker, but Clichy making Nani look like Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend was not his first offence since returning from injury.

Wenger has always believed in playing his charges into form, but if he continues to do so at the expense of results, it will cost the Gunners the title.

In the absence of the crocked Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore isn’t the safest option at fullback - but William Gallas is. The veteran defender may not like being shunted out wide, but he’s quick and mobile enough to see off the advances of Joe Cole and Florent Malouda. More significantly, if there’s one Arsenal centre-back capable of handling Drogba’s wrecking-ball approach, it’s fellow heavyweight Sol Campbell.

5. BRING NASTY BACK

Their bid for the title may have hit shaky ground, but there’s still one table that Arsenal are close to topping: the Fair Play League. Nice guys Fulham are top, while Chelsea and Manchester United wallow in fifth and ninth spot.

Of course, such gentlemanly conduct must be applauded, but Gunners fans must begin to wonder what is lost from a team that receives so few cautions. After all, it wasn’t so long ago that Vieira and Petit snarled the North London side to so much silverware.

English football may have, to some degree, followed in the non-contact ways of the continent since the late 1990s, but Wenger’s current side are ahead of the curve - and right now it is to their disadvantage. The truth is, that a juicy tackle here and there to strike fear into the opposition and fire up the Arsenal faithful wouldn’t go amiss at any ground - particularly Stamford Bridge

@ londoner,

Thanks for that. I have my house in Lagos, though I'm an Ibadan man. I've been to almost all the states in Nigeria, including Abuja.

Crime is everywhere in Nigeria, though their rates are different in the states.

Agreed their people made it difficult for them initially, but their leaders forged their ways to make things work. Here are the citizens and some of us foreigners enjoying the fruits of what they did today. Let Nigeria leaders do the right thing forcefully on us, at least we'll see it to enjoy. At least they all travel everywhere and see how things works in these country.
Business / Re: Insult: MTN Locates West African Headquarters In Ghana by SirKay3(m): 3:48pm On Jan 12, 2010
MTN is free to locate its head office to anywhere in the world, so far the place is conducive for its operation. Come to think of it, MTN did not say it is pulling out of Nigeria,  but just relocating its head office to Ghana. So, what's the fuss about that? It is MTN that we should ask questions, not insulting Ghana.

Moreso, this shouldn't be seen as an opportunity to pour venoms on Ghana, but for our rulers to address the right issues. Na Ghana do us? Their rulers got their acts right and did the right thing to better their country. If ours has not got to do with corruption today, it'ld be telling us lies about the whereabout/state of health of our President, who is being kept in Aso Rock by tax payers money.

I'm a Nigerian working in the oil industry and been working with one of the oil giants for the past 18years and desires good things for myself, wife and children. After being fed up with the way things are going in my beloved country, I don't have any other option than to relocate my family to Accra, Ghana last year.

Things work out there please. Their rulers knows their responsibilites to their citizens and answerable to them. Most of their establishments dont treat their ciizens anyhow. If light is taken for more than 5minutes, it's got to do with faults and there are phone numbers to be called for explanations if need be. Do we have phone numbers of NEPA, sorry, PHCN? How is it being managed? Let's face reality, our country is gradually becoming a failed state, yet our leaders and even ourselves are not waking up to realities of life.

Ghananians are very friendly people, they are not jealous of Nigerians at all. I've travelled far and near within the short period of my relocation to Ghana, driving my vehicle with Nigeria plate number, yet I've never been abused or treated badly by their security personels. Security is stable, crime rate very low, you get value for what you pay for, peace of mind, quality/stability of education is far better than in Nigeria, traffic is less, compared to ours in Nigeria, nice/friendly environment. These are just to mention a few.

Let's leave Ghana out of this, but rather face our internal problems squarely. I'm not campaning for Ghana please, but trying to put things right for us. Ghana is a nice place to live in.

I still work in Nigeria, but lives in Ghana. My children schools there and my wife does her business there. Nigeria is my country, while to me, Ghana is the capital.

Come to think of it, I've also relocated my head office to Ghana, yet my relatives lives in Nigeria.

@ Andyjoy,

Getting work permit for you is not a big deal, if your employer's business in Ghana is a registered/legitimate one. He is the one that would help you with work permit, so far his company employs you.

Accomodation is a bit fair, though not all that expensive. A 3/4 bedroom building goes for between $300 - $500 per month, depending on the area, but you are assured of maximum comfort in your apartment. They usually ask for a year rent, depending on the years you think you can pay.

@ oYaTo,

Thanks a bunch for "waking up" this thread and calling all of us who started it to come back to share fresh experiences with Nairalanders.

I stumbled on the thread while looking for what to do at work. Nice to know that many have been blessed through our contributions. May God help those of us who are marired in our homes, those seperated to be brought back and those in grief to be comforted.

I've got another job with a multinational oil servicing company, I'm offshore onboard a FPSO now and have relocated my family to Accra, Ghana this year. All thanks to my wife and children's support.

My marriage is still standing by God's grace, we had our 13th year wedding anniversary on the 1st of June this year (though I wasn't with my wife that day, I was away at work offshore). We spent the better part of that day talking to each other through Skype video call and it's nice sharing the happy/worst times together.

Our kids (2 boys and 2 girls) are doing well in school, the 2 boys are boarders at a school in Tema, Ghana. My eldest daughter attends the same school with them, but as a day student. The last one is in Nursery 2 at a school in Accra. Their ages are 12+, 10+, 8 and 3yrs.

I thank God for it all since all these years, it's been a home that we craved for and we are really enjoying it/catching fun.

Keyword: Prayer and being in Christ are the pillars holding a happy home.

Others please come back o! Tell us how far it is with you/your home o!
