After the Super Eagles pulled a draw in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Namibia in Windhoek on Wednesday, we can reveal with authority that there is a battle in the Nigeria camp between the officials of the Federation and the team which may lead to the boycott of the Confederations Cup. Players of the national team outrightly are on strike. They have refused the match bonus offered them by the NFF. “We have told them to go and play the Confederations Cup themselves,” said our source in the camp. “As at this morning, we are not ready to leave Windhoek if these issues are not sorted out. It is either the raging camp issues are resolved in our favour or we all leave for our various clubs and forget the Confederations Cup.” Part of the grievances of the players is that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) cannot and should not slash their bonuses without consulting with them being the actors who suffer all the throes, hits and pains on the pitch of play. In addition, they brought the issue of the rationalisation of the backroom staff of the national team into their demands. A prominent case was the forced exit of assistant coach Silvanus “Quick Silver” Okpala whose services are obviously being missed in the team. Another matter raised by the players is that of the other assistant coach, Valerie Houndenou, who coach Stephen Keshi had to employ and pay from his own pocket. This, the players feel, is wrong and must be addressed in a holistic nature otherwise they will proceed to their various clubs and forget about the Confederations Cup. As it is, a prolong agitation of the players will definitely affect the concentration required to have a good outing in the Confederations Cup. If this situation matures, Nigeria would have brought shame to Africa, if they fail to participate in the Confederations Cup or if they do not do so well in the tournament. source: http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/4045997

“My brother, I have plenty,” Esau answered. “Keep what you have for yourself.” But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me…for God has been very gracious to me. I have more than enough.” Genesis 33:9–11, NLT Grace Flows When You Stop Struggling Most people would have given up on Jacob, the scheming deceiver and manipulator. But not God. One night, while attempting to appease the brother he had stolen from, Jacob met the Lord. He grabbed hold of the Lord and for hours, tried to wrestle a blessing from Him. What did the Lord do? He touched Jacob’s hip socket and put it out of joint, so that Jacob wound up helpless before the Lord. The Lord changed Jacob that night. He showed Jacob how it was only when Jacob’s grabbing and wrestling finally stopped that His grace was able to flow. That night, God changed Jacob’s name from “deceiver” to “prince” (Israel), and added to him blessings that were beyond his own efforts. You see, we cannot try to wrestle blessings from God. It is when we give up on our scheming, deceiving and manipulating to get ahead in life, and completely trust His grace alone that His provision flows unabated. Henceforth you will not struggle again in life! Christ supernatural grace and unmerited favor will rest upon you now and forever in Jesus name! Have a blessed week |

Ondo State Governor, who is also a factional Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, and the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwayanwu, on Wednesday faulted video clips allegedly recorded during the NGF election held last Friday in Abuja. The duo spoke at the democracy lecture delivered by the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs, Prof. Bola Akinterinwa, in Akure. Mimiko, who described the release of the 10-minute video clips as the height of propaganda by the pro-Governor Rotimi Amaechi's camp, challenged the originators to release the three-hour recording of the entire process. He argued that the purported recorded clips released to an online medium on Tuesday merely covered an aspect, which represented the mischievous intention of the pro-Amaechi group. Mimiko said, "Nigerians should ask the pro-Amaechi's group why he presided over an election, which he is also contesting. I specifically raised that issue and insisted that he must resign but his supporters maintained that he should supervise the poll as a sitting chairman. "They asked me whether I resigned my position while seeking a re-election for a second term in office and I replied them that it was not the same thing, because the NGF is like an association; not a democratic institution which had its existence entrenched in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. "When it was obvious that we could not guarantee the source of the ballot boxes and ballot papers brought by Amaechi, I protested again that we should conduct the election openly by raising up our hands in support of our preferred candidate, again, they rejected. "The ballot papers they produced were without serial numbers, and we discovered this was a fraud; hence there were protests. "They never captured all these facts but merely recorded the fraction of the process, which was in line with their pre- determined agenda. I challenge them to release the clips which will cover the entire three-exercise." Nwayanwu, who also described the purported emergence of Ameachi as the factional chairman of the NGF as a fraud, said he ought to have given up the claim to NGF chairman when it was obvious that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had pitched its tent with Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state. He also said since election had never been held to produce the NGF Chairman, the emergence of Amaechi could not have been in comformity with the regulations setting up the organisation. The LP chairman said the fact that 18 out of the 35 governors that voted attended the meeting called by Jang as NGF head, cast moral burden on the 19 votes Amaechi purported to have got in the election held a day earlier. Nwayanwu said since the days of Governor Adamu Abdullahi of Nasarawa State to Dr. Bukola Saraki of Kwara state, election had never been held for the chairmanship position of NGF. He, therefore, wondered where Amaechi got his legitimacy from. He said, "Amaechi should not allow overzealous and anxious politicians to destroy his future. He is still young, about 48 years old now. He should go back and reconcile with his party. "A party is always supreme. If he cannot abide by the philosophy of the PDP, he is free to leave. He can join the APC or come to LP; but in our party, the party is always supreme." source: http://mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/mimiko-nwayanwu-fault-video-clips-on-ngf-election/ |
Osun State Government yesterday failed to observe the Democracy Day anniversary like it was done in other states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The state Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola had upon assumption of office in November 2010 declared that his government would only recognize June 12 every year as the Democracy Day. However, during the seven and a half years administration of former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Democracy Day was always celebrated with special programmes. But the last two Democracy Day anniversaries celebrated in the state had been devoid of celebrations, as the state’s helmsman did not give recognition to the day as the Democracy Day. Although, workers in the employment of the state government enjoyed the public holiday declared by the Federal Government, the people of the state stayed indoors as there was no programme to commemorate the day. Also, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that used to organize public lectures to mark the anniversary did not turn up for this year’s anniversary and no explanation was given for the party’s decision. The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere while commenting on the decision of the state government, said the present administration in the state believed in true democracy, hence its resolve to recognize June 12 and not May 29 as the real Democracy Day. He said: “May 29 was just handover day. It was the day the military handed over to Olusegun Obasanjo and that was not the Democracy Day. What we are all enjoying today was as a result of the event of the June 12, 1993. So, our Democracy Day in Osun is June 12. “We cannot join the rest of Nigeria to do a wrong thing knowing that the real Democracy Day is June 12. Every one of us today is benefitting from June 12. It is wrong for anybody to say that May 29, which was hand over day, was Democracy Day in Nigeria.” source: http://sunnewsonline.com/new/national/osun-govt-shuns-democracy-day/

The Poland striker produced an outstanding display as BVB ran out convincing winners in the first-leg of their Champions League semi- final, but Lewandowski has warned the tie is not over yet, as he bids to finish off los Blancos on Tuesday. "If we don't play as well as we did in the second half, it will be difficult," the 24-year- old told polishfootballonline.com. "Real Madrid is a fantastic club and will definitely push us to play defensively. We have to look to score in Spain - that will make our job much easier. "We have to play just as well in the return leg to show that this wasn't an accident. Lewandowski then recalled a comment made by Pepe during the first leg and looked back on each of his four goals from the finest night of his career to date. "During one of the last corner kicks, Pepe came up to me and said 'You've scored four goals already, don't you think that's enough?'" he recalled. "Each goal was different. The first one was from a great pass from Mario Gotze where I got away from Pepe and got my foot to the ball. A Russian billionaire has unveiled plans to make humans immortal by converting them into “Terminator-style” cyborgs – a creature that’s part human and part machine – within the next three decades. Thirty two-year-old mogul, Dmitry Itskov has been pushing the project forward since 2011 when he founded the 2045 Initiative. His ultimate goal is to transfer a person’s mind or consciousness from a living brain into a machine with that its personality and memories intact. The so called “Cyborg” will have no physical form, and exist in a network similar to the Internet and be able to travel at the speed of light all over the Earth, or even into the space. Itskov’s first highly ambitious goal, called Avatar A, involves a person controlling a robotic human replica through a brain-machine interface (BMI), a technology that already exists. The deadline for this first stage is set for 2020. The Avatar B, due in 2025, would involve transplanting a human brain into an artificial body “at the end of one’s life.” Next in line is the Avatar C, that rolls around in 2035, that would also involve a human-machine brain transplant, but with all personality intact. Itskov hopes the Initiative will have learned enough about the human mind to free it completely from physical form finally, by 2045. According to the report, from the Internet-like hive mind, individual personalities could manifest themselves as holograms when they need to interact with their environment. “We believe that it is possible and necessary to eliminate ageing and even death, and to overcome the fundamental limits of the physical and mental capabilities currently set by the restrictions of the physical body,” the project website says. Itskov is recruiting scientists and authoring an open letter to the UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, asking him to support to push society’s transition to “neo-humanity.” source: http://www.informationng.com/2013/04/russian-billionaire-plans-to-make-humans-immortal-by-2045.html

One of Nigeria's representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Lobi Stars have crashed out of the competition after they were thrashed 7-1 in the second leg of the first round encounter by Liga Despotivo Muculmana de Maputo in a match played on Friday night. Though the full details about what transpired during the tie hasn't reached Goal.com but reports have it that Lobi lost their goalkeeper, John Lawrence at some stage in the game and with alleged questionable calls from the match officials, it was difficult for the Benue-sponsored side to hold on to their 3-1 first leg advantage. The club thus exited the second tier club competition 8-4 on aggregate despite holding a two goal cushion leading to the reverse fixture in Mozambique. Goal.com can authoritatively reveal that the club from Mozambique which boasts of 11 international players gave Lobi a tough time in Bauchi during the initial leg before the home team got two late goals at the dead to get a respectable 3-1 win after LDMM had led 1-0 for most part of the game. LDMM have thus progressed to the second round and will await the winner of Wydad Athletic of Morocco and AS Douanes of Togo also slated for this weekend in Lome with the Moroccan side holding 3-0 lead secured from the first leg in Casablanca a fortnight ago. source: http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/3882060 |

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has released new set of interconnection rates for voice services. This can be seen as the desired response of many Nigerians, in line with complaints made over the high tariffs charged by these telecoms operators in the country. The Director of Public Affairs, Mr Tony Ojobo told a news conference in Abuja that the new rates which takes effect from 1st April and will last for the next three years and will significantly favour subscribers. The review, which will start from April 1, 2013, was agreed on after comprehensive consultations with various stakeholders, the NCC said in a statement on Thursday. “The new termination rates, which significantly reviewed prices downwards, are informed by the depth of competition in the industry, while taking into consideration the position of new entrants and small operators,” the commission said in the statement. According to NCC, the termination rates for voice services provided by new entrants and small operators in Nigeria irrespective of the originating network shall be N6.40 from April 1, 2013; N5.20 from April 1, 2014; and N3.90 from April 1, 2015. The termination rates for voice services provided by other operators irrespective of the originating network shall be N4.90 from April 1, 2013; N4.40 from April 1, 2014; and N3.90 from April 1, 2015. The current rate, which is symmetric to all operators, is N8.2. For new entrants and small operators, the tariff drop will be by 21.95 per cent from April 1 this year, while for other operators, the drop will be by 40.2 per cent. “This determination shall take effect from April 1, 2013, and remain valid and binding on licensees for the next three years until further reviewed by the commission,” the NCC maintained. According to the NCC, a new entrant is a newly licensed operator entering an existing or new market within zero and three years, while a small operator, for the purpose of the determination, is an existing operator with a market share of zero to 7.5 per cent in terms of subscriber base. It will be recalled that the current interconnection rate regulation was implemented through the NCC Interconnection Rate Determination issued on December 21, 2009. Since then, the Nigerian communications market has seen tremendous growth in both, subscriber numbers as well as traffic volumes and available technologies. In June 2012, the commission appointed Price Water House Coopers (PWC) to undertake a cost study for voice interconnection. In line with its commitment to a policy of openness, transparency, fairness, and participatory regulation, the commission informed stakeholders in July 2012 of its engagement of PWC to advise on the review of interconnection rates for mobile and fixed telephony services. After series of meetings with operators and other stakeholders, PWC provided the commission with recommendations related to the regulation of voice interconnection. Fifa has announced that Goal-Line Technology (GLT) will be used at both the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup. The scheme underwent a trial during December's Club World Cup, and the governing body has decided to put it to further use at their upcoming competitions. "The aim is to use GLT in order to support the match officials and to install a system in all stadia, pending the successful installation, and pre-match referee tests," a statement read. "With different technologies on the market, Fifa has launched a tender today, setting out the technical requirements for the two forthcoming competitions in Brazil. "The two GLT providers already licensed under Fifa’s Quality Programme for GLT, and other GLT providers currently in the licensing process (that must have passed all relevant tests as of today) are invited to submit tenders. "Interested GLT companies will be invited to join an inspection visit to the Confederations Cup venues, currently scheduled for mid-March, with a final decision due to be confirmed in early April." Uefa president Michel Platini is unlikely to follow Fifa's lead as he is adamantly against its implementation, which means the likes of the Champions League and the Europa League will not see GLT any time soon. Fifa president Sepp Blatter was initially against the idea of GLT, but he began to embrace such a prospect after witnessing England midfielder Frank Lampard have a clearly-over-the-line shot not given as the linesman believed the ball had remained in play

The Confederation of African Football has laid the blame for Nigerians’ inability to watch the Africa Cup of Nations on terrestrial television at the feet of BON Nigeria was blacked out from the Afcon as a result of disagreement between the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) and LC2, the agency that is responsible for marketing the television rights to member nations in Africa. BON was negotiating to pay $1.5 million for the television rights but LC2 initially asked for eight million Euros which it later cut down to 4.5 million Euros. But BON refused to pay, hence Nigerian fans are unable to watch their darling Super Eagles on terrestrial television. El Amrani said Caf has to continue to sustain itself and has to stay in business so they need to do the business in the best way. “CAF needs to secure two things. The first is to sustain the maximum coverage of the competition and the other is to respect the laws of the market and the prices,” he said. “We cannot sell to someone who wants to buy at 20 times less than the usual price, we cannot do this otherwise we will have to close our doors. We cannot survive if we do not sustain the minimum value of our television rights. “We have seen steady progress in the Nations Cup in the last few years, this is because we are self-sustaining and financially independent. “Nigeria will go and purchase an English package or European football package at the right price but they want to purchase our package free or at a ridiculous price. We cannot go ahead with that, there is a minimum balance we have to maintain,” El Amrani explained. www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4687/2013-africa-cup-of-nations/2013/02/02/3720296/afcon-tv-blackout-caf-blames-nigeria-for-ridiculous-offer?source=breakingnews&ICID=HP_BN_2

For a while now, the rumour mills have continued churning out stories, insisting that there were strings attached between Obafemi Martins and Mario Balotelli’s elder sister, Abigail. The pair had been spotted together in at different locations, with love clearly in their eyes and the Levante frontman has finally confirmed that they are having an affair. He also insisted that the erratic Manchester City forward, had no qualms about him seeing his sister, as they have a good relationship dating from their time together at Inter Milan. “Mario is my boy. The respect is there because I used to play at Inter, in the youth team with him. He’s giving me my respect and I’m doing same. People are putting it in the news that he’s upset, of course he’s glad,” he said. “He’s glad that Obafemi Martins is dating his sister. But if he gets jealous then it means he doesn’t want his sister to grow. But it’s not like that. The boy is not a bad boy. Martins, who was recently dropped from the Nigerian squad to the Nations Cup, however insisted that marriage is not on the agenda yet. He said: “The relationship is true but getting married or not, we haven’t discussed anything like that. She’s upstairs and we’re happy together.” 24-year-old Abigail, had earler told the The Sun in an interview in April that she couldn’t date a footballer. “Mario wouldn’t let me anyway. He knows only too well what they are like. They are surrounded by women. Girls throw themselves at them,” she said. source: http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/12/30/mario-balotelli-glad-i-dating-sister-obafemi-martins/

Her newly released singles, Hi and Itz Ova, did not help matters even though the singles became two of the most listened and downloaded tracks, with over 500,000 views. Dikeh, who joined the bandwagon of other actors who succumbed to the moonlighting itch to delve into music, was lampooned and criticised by her fans for the uninspiring singles. Yet, she was not deterred. While she was battling to find her feet in the music circle, her foes romantically linked her to the Kukere crooner, Iyanya who squealers said was seeing Ghanaian leggy actress, Yvonne Nelson. For Iyanya and Tonto Dikeh it was all about who has left who for who. However, this whole saga began when Yvonne Nelson took to the internet to vent her feelings after Iyanya dumped her for Tonto Dikeh. The drama continued unabated until Tonto Dikeh replied Yvonne’s tweet and the two actresses took their rivalry to Blackberry messenger (BBM) where they threw ‘nasty’ insults at each other. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/tonto-dikeh-nollywood-controversial-actress-of-the-year
