A couple were so busy with “other preparations” that they forgot their baby at home in the day of the baby’s christening. May you not be so busy with the “Merry” in “Merry Christmas” as to forget that a Loving Father gave you His son and a humble Son gave His life for you. Merry Christmas! |
Nigeria moved five places up on the Fifa global rankings to place 52nd at the end of 2012 in the latest statistics released on Wednesday. The Super Eagles have climbed up steadily in recent times after gaining six places in November and have now added a further five to end the year on a rising note ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Stephen Keshi’s team defeated Venezuela 3-1 in an international friendly in November and this added to the positive climb. The country’s football suffered in 2012 owing to the inability of the Eagles to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon & Equatorial Guinea. While the team ended 2011 in the 42nd position and fifth in Africa, its ranking slid as low as 63rd and 13th in Africa in October this year. The Super Eagles now remain 10th in Africa behind Cote D’Ivoire, Algeria, Mali, Ghana, Zambia, Egypt, Gabon, Tunisia and the Central African Republic. Nigeria will play in next year’s Afcon in Group C where they will face defending champions Zambia (ranked fifth in Africa), Ethiopia (31st) and Burkina Faso (24th). Spain retained the number one spot for the fifth year, an achievement which earns them the ‘Team of the Year’ title according to Fifa. They are followed by Germany, Argentina and Italy. The ‘Mover of the Year’ goes to Colombia for the second time since ranking was introduced in 1993. Los Cafeteros finished 2011 in 36th, but thanks to six wins, one draw and only one defeat thereafter – and the 455 points they consequently earned – they end 2012 in fifth. |

Austin Giwa, the Nigerian who was kidnapped alongside four Koreans in Bayelsa State on Monday, has been released by the abductors. The kidnappers, however, did not set free the Koreans identified as J.S. Chae, J.H. Kim, K.H. Kim and P.W. Lee. Gunmen had on Monday raided a Chinese firm, Hyndai Fabrication Company, at Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area of the state, abducting the expatriates and the Nigerian. Our correspondent gathered that after blindfolding and taking the victims to an unknown destination, the kidnappers later released the Nigerian. A source told our correspondent that Giwa was dropped at the mangrove swamps of Odioma along the Okpoama waterways. He was said to have been set free after identifying himself as a Nigerian from Brass. The source, who pleaded anonymity said, “He was released at 5.30pm, about one hour 30 minutes after the incident. “A woman who was fishing saw where he was tied and abandoned and went to rescue him. She took him to the police station where he made a statement.” The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the development and said the police were still on the trail of the kidnappers. He, however, said the abductors had yet to state the motive behind their act. source: http://www.punchng.com/news/bayelsa-kidnappers-release-nigerian-detain-koreans/ Being their brother's keeper?

Four expatriates and two Nigerians working for the South Korean construction firm Hyundai Heavy Industries Limited were kidnapped Monday in southern Nigeria, police said. “Some armed men went to a Korean company, Hyundai, located in a forest by the Atlantic Ocean beach, and kidnapped four expatriates and two Nigerians,” police spokesman Fidelis Odunna told AFP. A fisherman, Tare Kolugha, said he witnessed the abductions as the workers were travelling to their workplace in southern Bayelsa state. “We were on the waters fishing close to Odioma Creek when we noticed two … boats with armed men (who) shot into the air and stopped the passenger boat conveying the Hyundai workers to their yard,” Kolugha told AFP. Gangs have frequently abducted expatriates working in the oil-producing Niger Delta in ransom kidnappings, but Nigerians from wealthy families have increasingly become their targets in recent years. A 2009 amnesty deal in the Niger Delta led to a sharp drop in unrest in the region, but criminality remains widespread. Late last month, two foreigners who were identified by the local media as Lebanese were kidnapped at a work site in the region. And the 83-year-old mother of the Nigerian finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was kidnapped from her home in Delta state and held captive for five days before being freed on Friday. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/six-hyundai-heavy-workers-kidnapped-in-bayelsa/ |
UYO—Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Alhaji Jibrin Paiko, has called for a national assessment of literacy practices, if Nigeria is to present a realistic account of its Universal Basic Education achievements by 2015. Paiko, who spoke at a workshop organised by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, on revamping adult literacy for sustainable development in the Niger Delta region, noted that 10.1 million children were out of school in 2012, according to United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF, report. He said: “This situation requires the commitment of everybody if we must come out of the woods. While there is need for everyone to join hands with the leadership to search for solution to these myriads of problems, the role of adult literacy must, therefore, be given adequate attention.” Aside lack of access, infrastructures, teaching and learning materials, he said the greatest challenge facing education was inadequate funding by the three tiers of government. “Adult and non-formal education at all levels of government seems to suffer seriously from under funding. There is real need, therefore, to consult widely and come up with a reliable and workable funding mechanism if Nigeria hopes to attain EFA and Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, within the set targets. “States and local government areas need to take greater responsibility and treat adult education with the seriousness it deserves. The lack of consistent and adequate funding, vision, strategy, and coordination has made literacy programmes to fall through the cracks,” he added. He noted that there was also need for the recruitment and training of competent adult education personnel, who would carry out programmes on adult education in the country. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/10-1m-children-dropped-out-of-school-in-2012/

A pastor was travelling lastweek, he saw an old man, and gave hima lift. While they were going, the old man said; my son, do you know what happened in Heaven last night? The pastor was so terrified and hurriedly parked and asked; Sir,are you sleeping? How did youget the information about Heaven? The Old man said; last night in Heaven God became very angry with man and asked th e Angels to blow the trumpet. The angels picked up the trumpets and as they were aboutto blow it WHEN, Jesus fell down and began to plead in tears. The blood that came out of His hands and body were very fresh. He told God that His death shouldn't be in vain. God couldn't stand thepains of the saint and the wickedness of the evil ones. So He said; "I AM GIVING THEM THEIR LAST CHANCE.". Jesus then turned to the angels and told them to move down in their numerous numbers to tell the world that "THE END IS NEAR, JESUS IS COMING VERY SOON". The pastor (sweating and crying)asked; sir, how did you know this? The OLD MAN replied; I am one of the Angels sent to the World. Please use every medium of communication to send this message. No time to waste, Please! And the old man disappeared. Brethren, this story is real, Christ is coming Soon. Please REPENT. I beg of you. Please SHARE this message round. PLEASE SAVE A SOUL TODAY.I Have done my part, it's now your turn to spread the Gospel. No wealth can be compared to life everlasting in Heaven. |
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s claim that President Obama “sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China” at the cost of American jobs has been selected as the 2012 Lie of the Year by Politifact.com . Politifact is a project in which reporters and editors from the Tampa Bay Times and affiliated media outlets check statements by members of Congress, the White House, lobbyists, and interest groups. Mr. Romney’s statement started in a speech in Defiance. “I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China,” he said, apparently referring to a blog by a Washington Examiner writer. Chrysler strongly denied the report, but Mr. Romney’s campaign unveiled a TV ad in Ohio a couple days later that said, “Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China.” Source: http://toledoblade.com/Automotive/2012/12/13/Romney-statement-on-Jeeps-being-built-in-China-called-Lie-of-the-Year.html

South Africa's first black President Nelson Mandela is being treated for a lung infection, the president's office has said. This is the first time officials have revealed why Mr Mandela, 94, was rushed to a military hospital in the capital, Pretoria, on Saturday. Tests showed a "recurrence of a previous lung infection", presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said. Mr Mandela is responding to his treatment, Mr Maharaj added. News of the hospital stay has prompted much concern in South Africa. The former president is regarded by most South Africans as the father of the nation, having inspired them to fight for democracy. He led the struggle against white-minority rule before being elected the first black president in democratic elections in 1994. Despite being imprisoned for 27 years by the apartheid government, after his release he forgave his former enemies and urged South Africans of all races to work together and seek reconciliation. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. The BBC's Andrew Harding in Johannesburg says news that the frail Mr Mandela has another lung infection is likely to generate considerable anxiety. The officials who have visited Mr Mandela in hospital since Saturday have all said he is doing well. He was flown to hospital on Saturday from his home in Qunu village in Eastern Cape province by the military, which is responsible for his healthcare. Local media reported that the decision to move him was taken so quickly that some family members and his own foundation were initially unaware of it. But Mr Maharaj has repeatedly said that Mr Mandela is doing well in hospital and there is no cause for alarm. Mr Mandela was last admitted to hospital in February when he was treated for abdominal pain. In January 2011, he was treated for a serious chest infection. While in prison in the 1980s, Mr Mandela was also diagnosed with tuberculosis. Mr Mandela retired from public life in 2004 and has been rarely seen in public since. source: http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-20677168?

I HAVE just commenced my thank-you tour to the great nations of the world. As the newly elected first executive president of the world’s newest democratic republic, I am naturally expected to observe this important diplomatic ritual. I must step on the soils of nations in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas . But there is one giant country I would be most pleased to just fly over. It is not that Nigeria is not among the great nations of the world. On the contrary, the country is not only great but it is teeming, gracefully, with good people. My problem has to do with fear. No, I am not afraid of Boko Haram. Faceless, mindless demons of mass-killing terrorists operate all over the world. Even massively-protected American citizens run for cover at the mere shout of ‘9 /11’ by a five-year old kid playing in company with his peers. My fear has nothing to do with crime and drug networks. Parallel governments that go by such frightening appellations as Gulf cartel, Los Zetas cartel ,Cali cartel, Los Rastrojos cartel and Medellin cartel operate far away from the country of my interest. Take a trip to the Indian Ocean high seas, especially off the coast of Somalia if you think Nigerian pirates and kidnappers are world champions. Look beyond the shores of Nigeria if you are concerned about five-star performances from the most digitally sophisticated armed robbers on stage. My concern revolves specifically around fear of Nigerian cows, fear of the red carpet and fear of the unknown. Have no illusion about it: There are cows in my own country as well. In fact, the cows in my country far outnumber the people. My problem is Nigerian cows are not ordinary; they are sacred. Sacred cows, my home Ministry of Agriculture had warned, do not produce milk for people’s consumption; they milk the people dry. Now dignitaries who are likely to welcome me at the Nigerian airport include governors (past and present), ministers, legislators, traditional rulers, politicians, military officers and even the cabal. Among them, there are too many sacred cows for comfort. And I am afraid, very afraid. Even Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, is afraid of sacred cows. Then, imagine the dicey situation that my presidential jet managed to out manouvre the menace of the grazing cows terrorising Nigerian airports. The authorities would lay a red carpet for me to glamourise my reception. There is hardly anything I dread more than the Nigerian carpet. Just anything in Nigeria can be swept under the carpet. Indeed, too many unresolved volatile issues in the country are know to have taken comfortable shelter under this internationally notorious national monument. The reports of probes into earth- shaking scams like the $12 billion Gulf War oil windfall and Independent Power Project have all been swept under the carpet. There were fears on Monday over the health of the Chairman of Bi-Courtney Limited, Dr. Wale Babalakin, with the increased presence of riot policemen at a ward of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where the businessman is currently on admission. It was learnt that the heavy presence of the security operatives followed an alleged directive from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to arrest him. Although authorities at LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos, foiled an earlier attempt on Sunday, some of the operatives said they had received orders to forcibly take Babalakin from the hospital to enable him to stand trial at the Ikeja High Court, on Wednesday. The EFCC had filed a 27 counts at the court in connection with an alleged money laundering offence against Babalakin and others. But a Federal High Court has restrained the anti-graft agency from going ahead with his arraignment and trial. The drama had started last Tuesday when over 20 policemen and EFCC operatives stormed the hospital allegedly to abduct the ailing businessman, but were prevented by the management. Bi-Courtney had described the move as a new trend in judicial administration in Nigeria. It decried “the desperation by EFCC to violate provisions of the law and constitution in order to circumvent justice, and a violation of the basic human rights of the citizen”. Earlier on Sunday, an operative of the agency reportedly sneaked into Babalakin’s room, but was accosted by some vigilant members of staff of the hospital. It was learnt that the unidentified operative, who pretended to be a visitor to gain access to the room, later identified himself as an official of EFCC after Babalakin had raised the alarm that attracted the attention of the medical personnel on duty. http://www.punchng.com/news/fears-over-babalakins-health/

Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited yesterday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of bandit tactics reminiscent of the Sani Abacha regime against its embattled chairman, Barrister Wale Babalakin, SAN. The company in a statement made available to Vanguard alleged that EFCC operatives numbering over 20 had laid siege on the private ward of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, where Babalakin’s lawyers said he is hospitalized. The siege of the EFCC operatives, the company’s spokesman, Dipo Kehinde said yesterday, is contrary to the order of a Lagos High Court which granted Babalakin leave to apply for an order to prohibit the Commission or other agencies from arresting the embattled lawyer. Babalakin was supposed to appear in court last Thursday over allegations of money laundering, among other 26 charges of having helped erstwhile governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori to siphon an estimated N2 billion from the coffers of Delta State. Babalakin did not appear in court, citing ill-health, but the same day also obtained an order granting him leave to apply for an order to prohibit the Commission from arresting him. The EFCC has since said that the order does not stop his arrest. On the seige laid on Babalakin’s hospital bed since last Tuesday, his spokesman, Kehinde said reacted:“It is noteworthy that this brings back sad memories of the days of Gen. Sani Abacha when the rights of Nigerians were trampled upon with ease. “This is a new trend in judicial administration in Nigeria and it reflects desperation by EFCC to violate provisions of the law and constitution in order to circumvent justice, and a violation of the basic human rights of the citizen. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/efcc-lays-siege-to-babalakins-hospital-bi-courtney/

I am not trying to impose my view on anyone, i'm just saying this maybe someone else will share my opinion. For those of us who own a 2go account you will observe there are different levels and for every level there is a star with a different color. Novice => red star, Amateur => purple star, senior => pink star, enthusiast => lime green star, professional => green star, expert => blue star , leader => sky blue star, veteran => orange star, Master => yellow star. After the Master level you find yourself in another level named ultimate with a black star. My questions are why is this level hidden and will they use black to represent the star? Hope they are not initiating people unconsciously into any evil cult via this social app? .....Just my thinking |
