Updates: I was able to remove everything from the exhaust, emptied the power steering pump and refilled with an original Honda specified oil.
Oxygen sensors were replaced with working Belgium grades.
Throttle body and maf stuff were cleaned with caburator cleaner. Fuel pump and filter were totally cleaned out.
A new air filter was installed, gentlemen.
For the past 3 days I have been using fuel of #2500 with ac under terrible traffic conditions.
The car is indeed a piece of cake.

Hello OP, I’d advise you to just get another pump, Honda’s aluminum pumps are very fragile, contact luvinghubby or go to oyingbo if you’re in lagos, fixed mine twice before I decided to change it, cost 55k with OEM fluids as at august 2021. As for the other issue, ditch the catalyst, install a spacer and most importantly change both o2 sensors, original denso goes for 28k each. The car is stuck in open loop, thus burning more fuel because the oxygen fuel ratio is off, have a qualified tech scan and clear the error codes afterwards, the difference would be clear as night and day.

Nobody wants to even mention the price of the spacer!!!

This is a very simple issue, first of all remove those rubbish which was constructed inside the exhaust and leave it empty, because the engine will breath freely without it and then change both Oxygen sensors down stream and up stream. Once you do that your car will be fine. I had exactly the same issue with you and ever since i remove the catalytic converter my car was very ok and it's more than 4 years now without any performance issue

Please, for the sake of your engine, remove all the stuff and whatever they put inside the exhaust. Those things will block the exhaust leading to complete engine failure.

The mesh wires your mechanic put in there have little or no effect on your fuel consumption.

if ur power steering reservoir is boiling it means there is air in the power steering system, u need to see a mechanic to bleed the air out, there is a special procedure for bleeding it.

You didn't specify if it's a v6 or 4 cylinder vehicle.. . if it's a v6, you will definitely have a little bit higher fuel consumption than what you had with your Solara... Its actually a 4cylinder and currently consumes more fuel than my previous V6 Solara.


Start by replacing the 0xygen sensors..then have an expert check for the long term and short fuel trims... Have your fuel system checked and cleaned where needed, with parts also replaced with matching parts where needed... throttle body, injectors, plugs and their cables, etc. I'll change all the recommended items as well.



Then check your revs while driving.. The higher the rpm the more the fuel consumption.. For some strsnge reason, a month or so after I got my 2010 Accord v6, I noticed that its revs were very high in relation to its speed, leading to ridiculously high fuel consumption.. MAF sensor was certified OK, no vacuum leaks, timing checked OK, no smoke from exhaust, yet bloody car was doing 4k rpm cruising at 60 miles per hour.. I'll also ask a mechanic to check it out, because the car is slightly loud.

One mechanic finally told me to swap ECU and see if there is an improvement... 1st ECU that was swapped in, same 2010 Accord v6 started chilling at 2k rpm while cruising at 70 miles per hour.. Its fuel economy practically doubled and car became whisper quiet and smoother than before..it's been more than a year now, and Car is still as quiet. I'll also get a new ECU.


If all else fails, and your rpm is still on the high side, try an ECU swap

As for your catalysts, they have nothing to do with fuel economy.. Scrape out all the gunk in there and install a spacer if the Catalyst code worries you. Ok. I'll check out the spacer as well.

As for your power steering, have it checked by a power steering specialist.. There are mechanics whose specialty is power steering...
I [b][/b]think it was my fault, I used a fake oil instead of the Honda recommended oil, according to a post here, fake oil causes foaming and spill. So I'll try the Honda oil tomorrow.

1. Try replace the catalyst. Most especially the upper one. But if you have money u can replace both I. e upper and lower. Also scan the car for possible error code. O2 sensor and stuff.

As per power steering, just buy new one. If to say u r in place like north mechanic over there are Honda gurus, but if you are not, just replace it.

Its good you are getting your hands dirty a little, not because you can't afford to pay a mechanic but the desire to get it right with a better understanding how it works.

I hope you got a Honda power steering fluid because if you use any other fluid it will boil.

So you know there will be a couple of failures in the west some rebuilt unit cost $60 so they just replace.

I know getting to know different parts of the vehicle you will not be surprised by any failure you already know the condition of each system.

Greetings all. I bought a Nigerian used 2012 4plugs Honda accord lately. It consumes a lot of fuel, scanned it and it showed no catalyst and bad O2 sensor. I was told a make shift stuff could be constructed into the catalyst chamber. I accepted and paid 28k for it and yet it still consumes the fuel.

Secondly, i observed that when I turn on my engine, the power steering fluid inside the oil storage boils and spills out. Such that it has now dried.
Please, I am a total Honda novice, I was using a 2002 Toyota Solara before upgrading.
More so, I bought it because of the good comments of Honda users here.
Kindly advice me on a permanent cost effective fix on the fuel consumption and how to stop the power steering oil issue.
