What kills me is a child that sees anyone eating, runs to that person to beg for food

it does piss me off too especially those that would be looking you up straight in the eye and salivating. it speaks volume of the childs home training. and no doubt embarrassing for the mother because at the end of the day, who people especially other mothers will focus on is the mother and lack of training she gives her child

it all depends on you and your salt tolerance level as long as the salt use is not overboard

I'll understand how you feel if the child has not been told before to "behave" and not be greedy in public [We'll never know]. But for a child who has been taught and told to wait his turn and to not "beg" for food in public until he has been asked, then that's the right right the mother did. If embarassed in public, a normal child will learn not to act that way again, in order to not feel  embarass again.

Sissy, you dont get it. Children go out with the mindset that their parents wont want to discipline them outside in order to not appear like a "bad parent", ehrrm negative. I'll rather embarass my child in public, then to have abnother person embarass my child and make me feel like I did not train him.

A Yoruba saying goes like this "E ba mi na omo mi, ko de inu olomo" [Help me beat my child [when he misbehaves], but no mother wants another mother to train her child for her] lol

of course, if she is a repeat offender i wouldn't really have an issue with what she did. most certainly not. if the mother had applied other methods (whatever that might be) i think the child might have been a little cautious about running to her straight when she saw her with the food. the sight of the food would have reminded her of the reinforcement(if any) she had gotten before. i have seen this types of kids before. i guess everything depends on the training so if the incident is the deal breaker here, then she must have done well.

I'm not against it, i'm just saying some of us tend to overuse it and then justify it.

i am one of the hardcore believer in that saying "spare the rod and spoil the child" and of course am not using/justifying embarrassment/humiliation here. inasmuch as she wants to teach her a 'lesson', there are certainly other ways of doing it without over doing especially in such setting and by the child's action and the mothers reaction, it sort of appears to me that its not certainly the first time she has done this and probably not the first she has reacted in such a way too. meaning, this her method has not really work for her.

and there is a saying that goes "its not the mad person that people stare or laugh at, its the family of the mad person"

interesting! but the gathering was an early morning event, so I'm assuming most kids there have not eaten but still . . . i thought it was kind of embarrassing and bit harsh especially given the huge crowd there unless of course she has warned her before and she was a repeat offender

How you deal with a child that have longer throat?

i was at this gathering with mothers and their kids, one mother there bought a sandwich immediately her child saw her, she went to her corner expecting to get her own share of the food,(which i think most of us would do being in the childs position after-all its food and its our mommy hello?) but i was very surprised when the woman, instead of giving her child the sandwich, she gave it out to other children there and angrily told her child to go and sit down. she never gave her anything until the gathering was over. being very curious by her action, i asked why she did that, she told me that she (her child) should have stayed at her seat and wait for her to call her, instead of coming to her and standing at her face like a starved child so hence her decision. she didnt like her "longer throat"
