SportsRe: Ex-FIFA Boss, Blatter, Calls For Fans' Boycott Of 2026 World Cup In US by SixSeven: 1:32pm On Jan 27
SpatialKing:
Bigcot all you want, FIFA world 🗺️ cup 2026 is a success already...

Tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are in unprecedented demand, with over 500 million requests recorded and nearly two million tickets already sold, making it one of the most sought-after sports events. High demand from 212 countries is driving up costs, with tickets for the final reaching upwards of $230,000 on resale platforms, prompting a lottery system for allocation...
You make me laugh. I don't think you are following world politics and events enough to understand the topic you are discussing. Many people had already purchased tickets to the Olympic Games before they were postponed due to COVID‑19 so what is so special about ticket sales? FIFA cannot work without the governments even though they claim they want FAs to be independent. If EU pulls out of the world cup, forget it, its gone especially if you know the history of FIFA.

Historically, boycotts have happened (e.g., Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, Commonwealth Games in 1986). Nigeria boycotted the AFCON 96. The games can go on but the impact will be felt. Right now, the sentiments around the world with Trump attacking Venuezela (South America) and Greenland (Europe and Canada) does not speak well. I hope you know that before the draws could be held this year, Iran protested and threatened not to participate in the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, D.C. because the United States had denied visas to some members of Iran’s delegation. Iran said this was unfair and political rather than sporting. There should normally be no mixture of football with sports but increasingly, we can't avoid that unless we choose to be blind. These kind of events rely on logistics and advanced planning so anyone who disrupts the plan like Trump is doing with his announcements and bickering can turn the game around. And to say that the game cannot be cancelled, welcome to reality. The Europeans are flying a kite and they know what they are doing. Good luck to your soccer, they will protect their football.

You that is coming from a country that would never host the world cup in this life time....
Don't worry about it. Football analysts understand what that means. Qatar hosting the world cup and changing the time of the world cup was one of the reasons Sepp Blatter lost his position because they were accused of corruption and taking Arab money. I don't know if you know that billionaires from the Middle East fund VCs that invest in different areas for the future. If you are not here on Nairaland to argue and have an open mind, watch this 5 mins video. The hosting was a loss but it was a strategic investment for Qatar. Football is serious business.

Story

USA and South American Fans alone will fill up those stadium especially during the knockout stages..

The tickets are currently selling out

Most fans from western countries bicotted the Qatar 🇶🇦 world because is a Muslim country and they complained about how Qatar treated the workers that constructed the stadiums...

How did it turn out, the world cup was a huge success.
This is not the same. Here, US immigration is not attracting people. US is fighting its co host countries, Canada and Mexico. It's not about might. About Qatar, Asia has the largest population in the world. Let's assume no one else went to Qatar from any other continent, Asians alone will fill up the stadiums and they like soccer too. The world cup is a commercial event and attracts tourists, the US and Trump himself know what that means because he's a business man. He knows the numbers but if immigration and fighty fighty will affect the numbers, hey, it's the economy stoopid. I hope you understand my last reference sha.

For Qatar, they can waste money on empty stadium because they knew what they were doing as 'investments'.

I am not surprised. Blatter wants his pound of flesh. The US brought his downfall back then. Do you remember when they splashed money in front of him at a press conference to show FIFA was corrupt under his leadership? wink I won't be surprised if the world cup is not taking place this year. If FIFA could host Qatar 2022 in another period of the year, there's no big deal in postponing this one. Trump does not like when the world does not acknowledge him, E go pain am. I told someone that this world cup fit no take place, dem think say na like. Las las, na only US go boycott am if they take it elsewhere and they won't be missed. Spite Trump and give it to China to host 🤣🤣🤣

PoliticsRe: For Once The Ruling APC Spoke The Truth By Calling Out Its Ministers- Paul Ibe by SixSeven: 10:29am On Jan 27
Jonathan the weakling asked his Ministers to resign if they wanted to contest in the next elections and join politics.

Tinubu the strongman cannot reign in his Ministers to resign if they want to face politics.

Life is wonderful. None of Obasanjo's Ministers dare play politics when he was the Boss. You don't need to go far to know who gives Wike the relevance. A president who is more interested in politics than governance.

Newsdesk
President Goodluck Jonathan officially instructed his ministers with political ambitions for the 2015 general elections to resign on October 15, 2014.
During a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on that date, he directed those planning to contest for elective offices to submit their resignation letters by October 20, 2014.

Key details regarding this event include:

The Valedictory Session: A valedictory session was held on October 15 for seven ministers who had indicated they would be leaving to pursue governorship bids.

The Ministers Involved: The seven ministers who resigned following this directive included Nyesom Wike (Education), Musiliu Obanikoro (Defence), Labaran Maku (Information), Samuel Ortom (Trade), Emeka Wogu (Labour), Onyebuchi Chukwu (Health), and Darius Ishaku (Niger Delta).

Reason for Resignation: The directive was issued to ensure that government officials did not use state resources or machinery to fund or influence their personal political campaigns for the upcoming 2015 elections.

Earlier in the same year, on February 12, 2014, President Jonathan had also accepted the resignations of four other ministers, some of whom were reportedly leaving to further their own political interests.

APC is a party of hypocrites because when they were in opposition, they could not tolerate PDP doing anything like this. They would have screamed blue murder.

What is the meaning of SLAY QUEEN?

There was drug abuse before Yahoo boys thought of the internet. Because of the expensive amount it cost, it was often the spoilt children of the rich that could afford it and their life spoil patapata. This was then shown to the Nigerian people on Nollywood and soaps. That time, morality was still high. What has happened is that morality has died, this has made it comfortable for people with had habits, with the help of the internet and social media not to feel ashamed anymore. If you go to a society that frowns on these behaviours, you will not go far. So we should ask ourselves how we became comfortable with drug lords leading us offline and online. 🚬

I can confidently blame her parents for what Nigeria has become today because their own parents will embarrass you if you brought unclean money to the house. You no fit spend that kain money impress your papa and mama but since there's yahoo boys mother's association, what am I saying sef undecided

Lagos GAC supported Obasa's impeachment but Tinubu overruled them all and overturned it. Who's fooling who?
They don't want the institutions to work, they form one council to usurp your legislature, executive and judiciary. When Fashola was doing well and their Jagaban did not want him to go for second term, possibly because he didn't want anyone else to surpass him for his future presidential ambition, where was GAChuh Their lies fall flat on them and it doesn't make sense. Tinubu that chose different deputies, where was GAC? Tinubu sef no follow him own AD GAC, na ACN/APC GAC dem come de use deceive us 🤡

The political parties must be run as effective institutions and no one should be above the party. Money politics is not politics. It's all football signing and transfer for the highest bidder. That's why we are where we are today. South African President Jacob Zuma was doing anyhow in South Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) expelled him in July 2024, a decision upheld in November 2024, following his support for the rival uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party. Zuma was suspended earlier in January 2024 for insubordination and campaigning against the ANC. APC today is telling us that the Governors are the leaders, something that when Obasanjo was disturbing the Governors, this same man claiming to be democrats did not want it.

Most of the knowledge of yoruba deities on the YouTube are from Brazilians, Cubans, and other South Americans. Last week I was looking for real information about Olokun(God of the oceans) and I was surprised that apart from fake Yoruba prophetess looking for people to scam, the real information i got are from a lady in Kenya or Zimbabwe. I learnt more about Olokun from Isese people from South America. It's like the orishas/deities are bypassing the Nigerian Yorubas and now passing their knowledge and power to the Yorubas in South America. The Ooni and other kings should take note rather than wasting time on politics and unnecessary superiority fight.
Last year I wanted to learn about Ogbe riku sa and other ifa ideologies and all information i got are from latin Americans. Lady, if you devote quality time to create genuine contents about the deities and their power and restrain from the temptation of getting quick cash, you will be highly successful and known all over the world. Thousands of African Americans in the US are followers of the Yoruba deities. You should be traveling all the world to give talks or for conferences. You can also partner with like minded people but remember that the Orishas doesn't like greedy people. That's why their power is reducing here day by day.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why Is Every Young Nigerian Rushing Into Tech? by SixSeven: 2:57pm On Jan 26
Nwaikpe:
Because they don't even know what Tech is.
Secondly, Nigerian loves anything that trends.

It happened with stocks
Then they moved to forex.
Then it HYIPs like MMM
Then "tech."

And basically 98% of those Nigerians you see posting on LinkedIn that they are into tech don't even know what tech is. Simply because they can do one job for a lazy secretary in Canada and get paid $1500, which gives them a strong spending value in Nigeria, they go around, buy fancy things, and think that they are into tech.

Now let me explain tech for those who really want to go into tech:
Tech is not being able to type "def function()" in Python and arrange a dataframe with graphs as well. Excel can do almost everything that we call tech if that is the only thing we know as tech.
True tech is being able to apply a new computer-based method to your specialization. Take note of the word "specialization." Meaning that if you don't have a specialization, you are not into tech. You are just floating around and waiting for the next trend. You only apply it effectively to a field you are a specialist in, or you specialize to apply it. Either one of the two.

It is not just about designing "fintech apps" with drag and drops.
"It is not just about designing "fintech apps" with drag and drops."

That actually is tech and a specialization in tech called Design Systems or UI/UX.

UI/UX is part of tech. It’s a legitimate, technical discipline that sits at the intersection of human behavior, systems constraints, product strategy and yes, visual design.

Software engineering builds the system while UI/UX defines how humans interact with the system. Both are required for real products. A fintech app with perfect backend logic but terrible UX is basically unusable. Gtbank is a good case study of this a few years ago.

People in this area have to learn WCAG guidelines - color contrast ratios (not just “does it look nice”), typography and readability, keyboard navigation, error messaging and form labels, touch targets & spacing and information hierarchy for screen readers. You are aware that because of tech, some people who were blind can now use some products of companies and these guys have to make it work. They call that accessible design. People who have visual problems, audio-visual problems or touch, the Design guys may not do coding but what they do is technical that's why there is a premium on it.

When you realize that tech is an industry, you know that it's not just knowing the hard stuff, there are support functions along the way. A good smart guy can know how to design a car but some other people put all the spare parts that make it beautiful and functional. Then there are those who sell it. The ecosystem needs different skill set.

PoliticsRe: GBadebo Rhodes Vivour Releases List Of ADC Chairmen In Lagos by SixSeven:
Jonjam269:
Historically, there has been a perception that some Igbo political and business interests have sought to expand their influence within Lagos State’s political and economic space, often leveraging the long-standing liberal and inclusive nature of Yoruba society.

As a result, many Lagos government policies are frequently framed as anti-Igbo, largely to gain political sympathy or score points in public discourse.

However, when Yoruba stakeholders push back against what they see as attempts to dominate Lagos’ political authority, they are often labelled with derogatory names. Despite this resistance, these competing interests are unlikely to retreat easily. The Yoruba, on their part, are aware of these dynamics and remain prepared to assert their political rights within their own state.
I can tell you for free that Igbo are not the problem. When it comes to Lagos, it's not them, you see the politics of Lagos is more of indigenes who have been systematically chased out vs the hyenas who find it easy to blame Igbo. It's the way the elites in the west do, they make the whites feel that the immigrants are the problems and they are coming to take their place. The real indigenous people of Lagos know how to take care of no indigenes and they are not against visitors in their land. It's those who imposed themselves as ọmọ Eko that are afraid of that privilege. When you belong to the land, you don't fear competition because you can trace your source. That's the confidence you see in both Rhodes-Vivir and Doherty. It's easy to distract you with the minority so you never blame the Baba Isalẹ smiley Ask yourself what they have done to Yoruba people if their claim is right. They have mismanaged the wealth that belongs to us all and given to a few, when people ask questions they now start blaming Ọmọ Ibo. Shame no catch them. The irony of it all is that these people benefitted from Pa Awo's free education embraced by LKJ.

PoliticsRe: Honest Opinion… Between Atiku And Obi Who Have A Better Chance To Win Tinubu by SixSeven: 2:25am On Jan 26
Aside Obi and Kwankwanso, no other politician has been able to prove themselves ALONE outside the establishment.

Repost👇

Obi has the brightest chance going by the last election result followed by Kwankwanso. I choose these two because they left PDP and did not have the structure of the regular party, which Atiku benefitted from using the PDP platform. You also have to look at the time they had to test themselves between the election primaries and election.

If you want to know what that means, Ribadu ran the Presidential election in 2011 under AC and failed with that party structure. Obi and Kwankwanso have been able to test their popularity as candidates outside the regular establishments and done well. Both had no Governors in their party before contesting and pulled a good number in the last election. Buhari used his CPC to bargain with AC to get the Presidential slot in APC. Buhari could say whether he used ANPP or CPC, he could gather votes. I'm not so sure Atiku can do that. He was a presidential candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 presidential election coming in third to Umaru Yar'Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP. Atiku came a distant third in that election with less than 10% of the votes.

Obi and Saraki/Kwankwanso

A Saraki will be a difficult campaign for APC that has defaulted to using tribes against themselves. Saraki ticks two boxes of Yoruba/North Central who have been looking for relevance since Gowon.

Here is the stats of the declared winners since 1999. Mr Bola Ahmed tinubu was not a popular president elect

Here is the brief, factual list of Nigeria’s presidential election winners since 1999, including each winner’s name and the percentage of valid votes they received.

1999 – Olusegun Obasanjo: about 62.78% of valid votes.

2003 – Olusegun Obasanjo: about 61.94% of valid votes.

2007 – Umaru Musa Yar’Adua: about 69.60% of valid votes.

2011 – Goodluck Jonathan: about 58.87% of valid votes.

2015 – Muhammadu Buhari: about 53.96% of valid votes.

2019 – Muhammadu Buhari: about 55.60% of valid votes.

2023 – Bola Ahmed tinubu: about 36.6–37% of valid votes.

A United opposition will defeat tinubu before the election begins. With a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide margin. There is no need to argue about that.

I can see it here with the label Chinedu, a scare tactic used by those who aren't themselves Awọn ọmọ Eko🤡 They are full of propaganda, the earlier they start using propaganda to label their opponents, the easier for them to take your eyes away from the ball. Don't forget these same people used propaganda to clean Buhari's mess as a reformed democrat 🤣 I know they were embarrassed that GRV could trace his ancestry to Lagos. The same thing for Doherty. It's easy to pick on the Igbos but those of us who know what the people of Lagos themselves are saying know they want freedom from outsiders which is an irony. Those who lay claim to Lagos can't trace their ancestry. They can't tell you their history because it does not exist. It's not so bad that non indigenes can be who they want to be in Lagos but the hypocrisy stinks when they lay claim to a title that does not belong to them. These are pests.

uote author=SixSeven post=138148137]
That man played the same game with AD so it's not a surprise to see it. Even PDP in Lagos could not be a good opposition because they kept using them as false flag. Look at the last guy who contested for Lagos Governor for PDP last time, he moved to APC and was not ashamed to let you know he worked as a mole. Mr Strategy has used this playbook many times and it works where there are hungry people who can sell their father's house for pittance. It's a Machiavellian type of politics that involves rub my back, I pat you and it's big money involved. Leave integrity for honest people. That one no consain dem.

You see this campaign they are running against Obi and GRV? They did it to Jimi Agbaje. In 2007, he made a good show in his first campaign with a relatively unknown party against Fashola, the next time he campaigned as a PDP man, they called him all manner of names and attached 'Ibo' to him. They already took care of PDP in 2007, they were not expecting an Agbaje to surprise them with organic votes under DPA, they took note from there and ever since then, he can't win their smear campaign. They are always using tribe to scare voters away but those who understand the game can see the fear. I wonder why people can't see this cheap pattern. APC pattern is familiar, that's why I have no pity for them when ipob or obidient give them the same medicine. They are half sides of a coin as far as I am concerned. It's giving them their own medicine. Propaganda must not be allowed to run unchallenged, if Obidients give them in the same coin, at least, it is fire for fire.

Mr Tinubu does not like competition, you are blocking his way. And we all knew this after Funso Williams was taken away from us by those who know themselves. If that man agrees to a debate this time, I will vote for him.
