Beaf: When I mentioned Obama, it was to stress that our problem is not ethnicity, but govt structure. It will be ridiculous for a governor in the US to go on a state trip to see Obama. In Nigeria, it is normal - I don't know of any developed country that is as top heavy as Nigeria. Agreed lol true too many close relationships between the president and senators and govenors like OBJ feeding daniels complete rubbish |

Fashola is a good example who put his state infront of being Lagos indigne
what he does for the state is enjoyed by all ethnicities |

FL Gators: So true.
Some of us know that Nigeria is messed up, but nevertheless, when Nigeria is being criticized, we jump to defend her. I get what you're saying, but how's that country first? Because someone who exudes this type of mentality understands that he can't put his ethnicity( customs, beliefs or religion) before his country. If someone puts his ethnicity( customs, beliefs or religion) before his country he automatically marginalizes those who aren't the same as him. (and im talking about those who govern in particular but those who govern are chosen by the governed us which is why i say country first). i hope im not confusing you |

FL Gators: tears. I'm so proud of you right now.
No cursing. tears ta lo bi e leere? To me i see it as if Obama over everyone with no favoritism toward black, africans or Hawiians or where ever he was raised. It can be done and within himself and he still listen to jazz and eat fried chicken like black people do, without imposing himself/his beliefs on others. Thats what i call country before ethnicity If you get what im tryin to say. |
Politics › Re: Are You Loyal To Nigeria Or Your Ethnicity? by sjeezy8: 2:55am On Sep 13, 2009 |
FL Gators: Thank you.
I understand. But people would identify themselves as Nigerians, but you know its their ethnicity that matters to do. With friction and tension within Nigeria, each person is holding on to their ethnicity. Holding on to your language, holding on to your culture and tradition, emphasizes the point that people actually really care about their eth. than being a Nigerian.
People would come on NL to form to dey say Nigeria comes first to them, when they know, that that aint true. Correct I think folks are reading the question in different ways because its too Vague. |

Try your post again and I'll reply. I would feel the same as you but within ethnicities are smaller categories that people can also consider ethnicities too. |

Nigeria comes second.

SapeleGuy: Is the local government chairperson not usually an indigene of the local government they represent? Are they not also the same person that fails to deliver services? There lies your link to ethnicity. What about people like those in rivers, delta or those in ogun state? |
Politics › Re: Are You Loyal To Nigeria Or Your Ethnicity? by sjeezy8: 2:02am On Sep 13, 2009 |
SapeleGuy: This is what I mean:
Who should be responsible for your schools, health centres, sports facilities, libraries, street cleaning, job creation, road repairs, fire brigade - Local government, these are the things that affect the average man and woman on a daily basis and not events at Aso rock. so what does this have to do with ethnicity? |
Politics › Re: Arewa Consultative Forum: Do Not Touch The Military 1999 Constitution! by sjeezy8: 1:24am On Sep 13, 2009 |
^^^^^ LOL ok maybe the south can choose better people to run their country when sepreated since the north are putting Hausas in southern governmnents presently. (sarcastically) |
Politics › Re: Are You Loyal To Nigeria Or Your Ethnicity? by sjeezy8: 1:19am On Sep 13, 2009 |
SapeleGuy: That is the only way that local governments can work, local issues, local context, local accountability and then the exchange of good or best practice. Sokoto can't solve Sapele problems.
My friend that is a noble ideal. In theory it is what we have supported as a country since independence but in practice it has failed woefully. I like the sentiment you espouse here and I think that it can be achieved with patriotism and a burning desire to do well for the people but i repeat that good democracies are local and local in our context involves ethnicity as our populations are not very transient. We can pursue local development within a context of mutual respect. Everybody works hard and there are no passengers what do you consider local governement? |

becomrich,: let seperate it first and we do an experience and if it does not make our lifes better, we would come and beg you northerner to take us back now. So let seperate it first, while you people wait for us to return to you and beg you. we seperate, then what? still vote people like Tinubu and Kalu into government? Cause that what the south is doing |
Politics › Re: Are You Loyal To Nigeria Or Your Ethnicity? by sjeezy8: 12:41am On Sep 13, 2009 |
SapeleGuy: A lot of these ethnic nationalities predate Nigeria in some cases by nearly 1000 years. As has been stated loving your ethinicity does not make one a tribalist.
To borrow Tsiya's analogy, dependence on this 1 man can not keep 250 wives happy - in the long run dem go kill am. It is possible for these 250 to keep themselves happy by taking responsibility for their own destiny and environment. Or it could be saying we are going to make our place the best we possibly can, we will develop ourselves, develop our environment without subjugating others. Imagine if this was adopted by all ethnicities across the country, would we not witness a positive transformation? My argument here is that all good democracy is local. I wish the man in Sokoto well but I am more interested in development on my doorstep in Sapele. 1 man or woman can't simultaneously be the best performer in 36 states. The best performer needs to be duplicated at state level, local government level and ward level. When things go wrong I have someone accessible to hold to account instead of 1 man at Aso rock. These type of individualistic ideals would only lead to the breaking up of every country because within ethnicity the are even smaller categories. Its just unrealistic, to have everyone performing at the same level in every local Government only for "whos onfront of their doorstep). The only REALISTIC way for a country to move ahead is for people to put the country ahead of their own ethnicity meaning what i do for my own ethnicity, i do for others. |

Eziachi: One of the reason I love forums like Nairaland is that it helped to see the mindset of all Nigerians from Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ijaw etc. In the last couple of years through this forum, I had known Nigeria I never will ever had known and what I had heard or learned had strenghtened my resolve that the only solution to Nigeria problem is independent of all the home NATIONS.
Our Yoruba neighbours tend to play the ostritch game of sidon dey look, do nothing, maybe pray and one day things will change. They will rage and pull you down and tell you that it's either one Nigeria or nothing, to my obvious amazement as to why will anyone based on the past and present experience, will waste a second protecting Nigeria as one entity.
Until many Yorubas join other southerners and ask for separation, the north will never read the hand writing on the wall. Despite little or no threat from MASSOB, the reacting of the northern dominated central govt in Abuja towards MASSOB shows that the only thing that worries owners of Nigeria is the sound of separation. lol you are clown and will forever blame the yorubas for igbo Elites faults also You are not part of the Elite igbos and the Elite igbos that are moving to ABJ do not care about your well being. SAME with the Elite yorubas and southerner period Seperation of the country will not change anything for southerners except more money for OUR OWN to STEAL. The Northern elites are no different from the south. They didn't force ,Tinubu,Orji,Kalu to steal and not perform for southerners They are all the same, all the south needs is their own leaders to perform well for us. |
Politics › Re: Arewa Consultative Forum: Do Not Touch The Military 1999 Constitution! by sjeezy8: 12:05am On Sep 13, 2009 |
The south is scared shitless of the north no doubt
But the southerners are still not performing for their states.
So cant blame the SMART north leaders. |
Politics › Re: Who Is A Failure? The Founding Fathers Or The Present Politicians by sjeezy8: 11:49pm On Sep 12, 2009 |
Both because right from jump they didn't see one Nigeria
Awo was good for yorubas only Zik was good for igbos only, same with ironsi- Balewa was good for the north only
The current politicians realised this and are now using it for their own Interest. Elites are from every region. When something isn't favoring them, they use tribalism to rally support. |
Politics › Re: Can Islamic Priests (alfas) Be Kidnapped? by sjeezy8: 11:36pm On Sep 12, 2009 |
Tsiya: Well, Imam and Afla doesnt have much power.
I can name so many Pastors:
Father Pius Kii (Rivers Stater) Adeboye Oyedapa Pastor Chris TB Joshua Okotie and host of others
How many Alfas or Imam do you know?
Despite the fact that Islam is a fundamentally conservative, the religious leaders are not hold with high esteem as it is in Christianity LOL they aren't? Because last i checked the topic outlined pastors being kidnapped and not imams If the Pastors where held in HIGH esteem they wouldn't be kidnapped IN CHRISTIAN POPULATED REGIONS. When have you ever heard a IMAMS being mistreated in muslim dominated regions? NEVER Lets tell the truth the whole south is pacifying the islamic north. Because the south is scared of the mayhem the north will unleash. Muslim Leaders can break Nigeria in half with a simple sentence. That is power, what Pastors have is wealth NOT power in anyway. Not to mention the current state of the country is being controlled by the North sokoto caliphate who are considered religious leaders. That is power |
Politics › Re: Can Islamic Priests (alfas) Be Kidnapped? by sjeezy8: 8:10pm On Sep 12, 2009 |
OK but if a islamic leader was kidnapped his follwers would pay the money in NO Less then 2 days. But afterwards the muslims will go crazy and start their own killing in return. lets be honest.
Imams/Alfas have just as much power in Nigeria if not more than pastors
Simply the kidnappers who are christian themselves are Scared of muslims |
Politics › Re: Are You Loyal To Nigeria Or Your Ethnicity? by sjeezy8: 8:01pm On Sep 12, 2009 |
The answer is simple Everyone from all tribes always recalls their "Heros" from decades ago. but fail to realise these people do not exist in the current state of Nigerian politics.(few close to none).
For all west, what have any Western politicians done for you particularly since the 1960's? For all East what has your Eastern politicians done for you particularly since the 1960's? Same Goes with all other regions ,
Everyone screams PDP is the problem but within PDP your tribesmen are willing to sell all tribes short for personal gain. Even without PDP What has Tinubu done for Lagos state(except Fashola)? What have Orji, Kalu done for Abia state? They are not part of PDP and still cant perform in the interest of their citizens, yet people are supporting their tribemens who are failing. Mind you these people gained governorship from votes by THEIR OWN ETHNICITY and not massive rigging as people always cry about.
PDP isn't installing hausas in government in the EAST and they are not installing Hauas in WEST OR SOUTH SOUTH. look at KALU dude wanted to run for president and tried to rally support from "his people"after he robbed Abia state blind.
When one says loyal to ethnicity that can be equated as voting for the same tribesmen that slapped you in the face for years. When one says loyal to Nigeria that can be equated as voting for the best performer for the country. Meaning whats good for one ethnicity is good for all others. |
