President Tinubu Posts AI-Generated Image, Quickly Edits After Mistake Earlier today, President Bola Tinubu shared an image on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: "This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape." Nigerians noticed that the image was Grok AI-generated, complete with a visible watermark. Realizing the error, President Tinubu quickly edited out the watermark and reposted the same image on Facebook. This incident has sparked conversations online about authenticity, digital literacy, and the importance of maintaining trust in public communication. Even at the highest level, mistakes with AI content can happen, but how we respond matters. What do you think? should public figures avoid AI-generated visuals, or is it acceptable if handled transparently?

Ribadu’s Office Admits Giving Arms To Vigilantes In Kwara Ribadu’s Office Admits Giving Arms To Vigilantes In Kwara The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has admitted giving arms to Vigilantes to support security forces in countering terrorism, banditry and other criminal elements in difficult terrains. A statement by the Head, Strategic Communications, National Counter Terrorism Centre, ONSA, Mr Abu Michael, said pursuant to Part III, Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022, the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), under the ONSA, continued to coordinate and support law enforcement, security, and intelligence agencies in countering all forms of terrorism in Nigeria. He stated this while responding to media reports on the Kwara State incident where a rifle issued by the office of the National Security Adviser was recovered. He urged the media to exercise responsibility, protect sensitive security information, and seek clarification through designated official spokespersons. According to the Spokesman, recent media reports published on some online platforms have made it necessary to clarify ongoing counter-terrorism operations in parts of the country, particularly in forested areas of Kwara State. He said, “In line with the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST), Nigeria’s kinetic approach includes the deployment of hybrid forces. This involves the coordinated use of regular security forces and trained irregular auxiliaries, such as hunters and vigilante elements, to operate in difficult terrains, including forest areas. “This approach previously guided the engagement of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in the North East. The CJTF comprised trained civilian volunteers who worked alongside the Armed Forces in operations against Boko Haram. “The same strategy currently informs hybrid deployments in parts of the North West and North Central. These operations are aimed at degrading the capabilities of bandit, criminal, and terrorist groups. This approach has yielded several successful outcomes. “The situation in Kwara State is not different. However, media reports on the matter are inaccurate. The limited public information is due to the sensitive nature of these operations.” He noted that details of the incident were being restricted to prevent operational compromise and to protect the safety of personnel and auxiliary forces. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Federal Government and its agencies are not conducting kinetic operations with any socio-cultural groups. “Claims that the Office of the National Security Adviser has provided arms to any socio-cultural organisation are false and should be disregarded,” he added. He said all hybrid personnel were recruited directly by authorised security and intelligence agencies following due diligence. “All operations are conducted in accordance with the law and established standard operating procedures,”. He therefore, urged the public to disregard unverified reports that misrepresent the conduct of these operations. “The media is also urged to exercise responsibility, protect sensitive security information, and seek clarification through designated official spokespersons,” he stated. He further assured that the National Counter Terrorism Centre remained committed to an open-door policy to deepen stakeholder understanding of Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.

THE TRUTH NOBODY WANTS TO TELL MR PRESIDENT Nigeria is bleeding. Nigerians are suffering — not from laziness or lack of effort, but from a system that has become brutally hostile to the very people it is supposed to protect. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the average Nigerian is under siege — from poverty, from insecurity, from hunger, from hopelessness. Mr President, your government has failed the people. From the streets of Lagos to the villages in Zamfara, the reality is the same: people are not living — they are struggling to survive. This is not about opposition politics. This is about the raw, painful truth. A truth the people around you refuse to tell you. They hide behind fake figures, staged reports, and filtered statistics to create the illusion that your government is performing. But if you step outside the walls of Aso Rock and truly listen, you will hear the cry of a broken nation. Go to the streets — people cannot afford a decent meal. Go to the schools — tuition fees are now unbearable. Go to the hospitals — people are dying not because of sickness, but because they can’t afford basic tests or drugs. Go to the farms — farmers are abandoning their lands because the cost of inputs is beyond reach. Go to our homes — we sit in darkness daily, yet we are billed for electricity we never see. The Nigerian people are being pushed to the wall. Banks have become predators, not partners. They charge Nigerians relentlessly: stamp duty, transfer fees, maintenance fees, USSD charges — all for services that barely function. Their customer service is non-existent, their systems are unstable, and their goal is clear — profit from the pain of the people. There is no protection, no regulation, no relief. Telecom companies are draining Nigerians dry. Data disappears without use. Airtime vanishes into thin air. Customers are exploited daily, and instead of improving, these companies keep introducing new tricks to make people pay more for less. Network quality is poor, call drops are frequent, and yet the cost keeps rising. Still — no accountability. There is no security anymore. Boko Haram has returned, bandits operate freely, kidnappers are now tech-savvy, uploading videos of hostages online. Soldiers are dying with little or no ammunition, underpaid and overworked. Police brutality is on the rise — instead of protecting citizens, innocent lives are being lost at the hands of those who swore to defend them. EFCC ignores corrupt politicians and targets ordinary citizens. The system is upside down. Education is now a privilege. Federal universities are raising tuition fees beyond the reach of average Nigerians. Parents are selling properties, taking loans, or giving up. The so-called student loan is inaccessible — a show with no substance. What kind of future are we building when knowledge is no longer affordable? And the electricity crisis is a national embarrassment. We live in darkness. Businesses are shutting down because of outrageous generator costs. Homes are powerless. Students study under candlelight in a country that claims to be the "Giant of Africa." Yet DISCOs keep raising tariffs. What exactly are we paying for? Your administration claims that 20 million people have been lifted out of poverty — who are they? Where are they? What do they look like? Because in our communities, poverty is deepening. Businesses are dying. People are selling assets to eat. Families are being torn apart by economic hardship. You said cash transfers reached millions — not even 1% of the population in most communities received anything. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Mr President, enough is enough. The people around you are lying to you because they’re benefitting. But the people in the streets are dying in silence. It is time to hear the truth without filters. Leadership is not about photo-ops and figures — it is about impact. Real impact. Tangible progress. Visible change. If this government cannot face the truth, then the people must rise and speak it for themselves. Not with violence. But with unity. With courage. With clarity. With one voice — loud enough to shake the conscience of the nation. We do not owe the government silence. We do not owe leaders praise for failure. We owe our children a better country. And we must speak now — before it's too late. Nigeria belongs to us all. And we will no longer suffer in silence.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, on Tuesday, described the governor of the state, ‘Seyi Makinde, as an Omoluabi for possessing a good mindset that has made him not to renege on his agreement with pensioners despite the challenges in the polity. The NUP Oyo State Council made this declaration at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, during a mega rally in appreciation of the governor, noting that it has been three years of unbroken relationship and partnership between the Makinde government and pensioners. Secretary of the Union, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, in a speech he delivered at the event, lauded Governor Makinde for reversing the ugly trend whereby pensioners died in their numbers due to non-payment of their pensions and gratuities. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Governor Makinde, who attended the rally in company of Dr. Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declared that his government would continue to cater to the welfare of pensioners in the state. The governor said: “Since you retired after serving the Oyo State government, you were supposed to be resting and enjoying but the past government denied you your rights. “I want to assure you again that this current government you installed will continue to do the needful for you. “I know that if pensioners don’t have children that can take care of them and the government they have served also failed to cater for their welfare, it is a big challenge. And this was what informed our decision to pay pensioners the same date civil servants are paid. “So, I pray that no one will die untimely and the government will do what it is supposed to do.” The governor appreciated the pensioners for the solidarity visit, adding that he had received their requests and would attend to them in due course. Speaking at the event, Saraki, who was in Ibadan to meet with PDP delegates ahead of the party’s National Convention, commended the governor for what he has achieved in the state, saying: “I want to appreciate the digital and global governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde. I also want to thank you pensioners in Oyo State for supporting your governor. I pray that God will stand by you too. “Let me add that there is no other party that can save Nigeria except the PDP. He is doing well for you and I want to urge you to keep supporting him.” Earlier, the Secretary of the Oyo State Council of NUP, Comrade Abatan said the pensioners came to show appreciation to the governor for the prompt payment of their pensions on the 25th of every month and the payment of stalled gratuities. He stated that the rally had in attendance all categories of pensioners, including retired principals of secondary schools, Heads of Local Government Administration, Directors from various fields, Engineers, Doctors, retired primary school teachers, local government pensioners and retirees from tertiary institutions, government parastatals and agencies. He said: “Your Excellency, it has been three years of unbroken relationship and partnership with Oyo State pensioners. Before you came on board, anybody could know a pensioner walking on the street, ready to fall down at the honking of commercial vehicles and okada riders. “Many times, the union was called to come and carry our members that fell on the streets. Many times, we lacked the ability to procure simple medications. “There was a year that we recorded 516 deaths among us. We were dying like chickens infected by Newcastle disease but not anymore. Pensioners now live better. “Though the pension might have been static in the last 15 years due to non-implementation of the constitutional provisions that pension should be increased when salary of workers are increased, we are assured that the payment of our pensions will be made every 25th of the month. “Stalled gratuities to retired primary school teachers and pensioners in the mainstream are now being paid both to living pensioners and next of kins of deceased pensioners. “Your Excellency, pensioners that were declared dead some years ago have risen like Jesus Christ from the tomb. See what has become of Oyo State pensioners. See them in different attires, see their mood, they have truly resurrected from the dead. “Your Excellency, we are here to appreciate you and pray for you. If not for a good mindset as an Omoluabi, circumstances in the polity abound, which could have made you renege on your agreement and commitment to continue to pay pension and gratuities. “You did not use the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn, which other Emperor-Governors are using to shortchange the pensioners and workers in their various states.” Abatan concluded that though no one gave Makinde a chance when he came on board in 2019, tagging him an inexperienced individual in government, through deft planning, he has proved himself a grandmaster of meaningful administration with evidence abounding around the state.

Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed reports that South-West governors voted in favour of a clampdown on the social media, at last Sunday’s meeting in Lagos. We Do Not Need Any Other Bill To Regulate Social Media - Makinde Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed reports that South-West governors voted in favour of a clampdown on the social media, at last Sunday’s meeting in Lagos. While inaugurating the panel on police brutality in Oyo state on Tuesday, Governor Makinde counted himself out of favouring having a Social media bill, noting that the agreement at the meeting in Lagos was that the existing Cyber Crime Prohibition, Prevention Act of 2015 sufficed. “Let me categorically state that as far as I know, there has been no such communique from South-West governors that I am a part of. “Yes, I was in Lagos, we did hold a meeting but our agreement was that we already have an existing Cyber Crime Prohibition, Prevention Act of 2015 and that there was no need for duplicity in terms of a specific Social Media bill. “So should anyone choose to sponsor such, I should categorically be counted out. The Cybercrime Act is extensive enough and covers any issue that any Social Media bill may seek to address,” Makinde said. He urged the judicial panel to objectively deal with petitions of Oyo residents relating to police brutality, violation of rights and unlawful killings. Earlier, the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, reiterated that the state legislature will not support any form of restriction on social media freedom of expression and speech. Last week, governors of northern states called for the censorship of social media to “avoid the spread of fake news”.
