Goodmarlian: And what if arewa overpowers them ? How will Arewa overcome them when Arewa as you know it may not exist? Arewa you're talking about is NE and NW. But in reality they may not be able to form a country. Both zones are different and within these zones still, there's a strong religious divide. With all these factors at play, how can they overpower anybody? |

Goodmarlian: If a country splits the components tribes that make up the country either fight to remain a soverign nation or fight to join a bigger group to form a bigger soverign nation.let's assume Nigeria peaceful breaks today I suppose the UN will only recognize only three nations based on the map that was submitted by the agitating groups, presently there is no agitation from the south south and the middle belt they are almost nonexistent,I suspect plateau, nassarawa,Niger and Taraba and Adamawa will be swallowed up in hausa_fulani hegemony because they would be considered part of the arewas, the southern middle belt ,the Idoma, igede and Igala will fight to join Biafra because they have alot in common with Igbo's and Efiks, the yoruboid kogi and kwrrawill join oduduwa republic , I also suspect the Nupes and egbira will join the oduduwas to form a country .
God bless oduduwa God bless Biafra
It shall come to pass in no time. You're not familiar with some of those Northern states. The middle belt will rather die than join an Arewastan. Even Northeast and Northwest may not be able to form one county. You may be surprised to find out up to 3 countries will come out from the North in the event of a split. Any attempt to incorporate certain groups forcefully into Arewastan will lead to a bloody civil war. |

[s] ijawcitizen: Any Southern Alliance that do not acknowledge and recognize Niger Delta Republic is bound to fail.
The sharing of Niger Delta between igbos and yorubas as negotiated by Ojukwu was one of the reasons Awolowo could not follow through with his agreement with Ojukwu.
I hope the Yorubas could point this out to the igbos. The alliance is only a plot to get others to support the igbo annexation of Niger Delta territory. [/s] Shatap. Nobody call Niger Delta here. |

mansakhalifa: I saw this and stopped reading...
You really have to realize that what you have up there is capable of spreading misinformation.
The British didn't just wake up one morning to "slice part of this people", as you put it. A series of events led to it.
I hope you are fully aware how we got here, sir??
By the way, what I posted was not a ploy to totally dismiss their struggles. I just sort of found it laughable that they are willing to dump one colonial experiment for another. Surely, they could have come up with something more original- more autochthonous, couldn't they?
Read up the history of Togoland and you will see where I'm coming from. But pay very close attention to every minute detail once you begin.
We can't be having this debate until it is clear to me that we both are fully apprised of what the core issue really is here.
If you want to right the wrongs of colonialism, then they have to go the whole length. Okay it wasn't Britain in herself that sliced them. But does it take the point away from what I'm saying? Why were a hitherto single group (as under Germany) split into two, one to Britain and the other to France? Why did they feel they can just do that? Why do they do this? That's the question. And are you saying they should go back to being Togoland all through, and not just western Togoland? If that's your point, that can be achieved along the way. |

mansakhalifa: For those saying that this is an attempt at setting the ills of colonialism aright, I've got this for you:
You all have got it totally wrong. There was never an entity called "Togoland" prior to the coming of the European imperialists. Yes, I said so.
What these people call "Togoland" today is also just another creation of the Europeans- pretty much like all other African countries. Togoland was created by the Germans who had come into the colonisation game late and were looking to carve out their own African colonial empire in the late 1800s.
The Germans actually kidnapped some African chiefs, forced them to sign of their lands to Germany after which they then unified the various realms of these chiefs into one entity known as Togoland.
Let's just set the records straight here in order not to miss the point. There was no Togoland but they were a mostly homogeneous group till Britain saw a need (God knows what) to slice part of this people and add to their gold coast. Thereby creating this anomaly. Those people in that region are forever inclined to Togo. |

WoundedLamb: Nigeria and many other African nations are not as diverse as some of the countries in the Americas. West Africans have people of the same race but different ethnicities in a country and they are using it as an excuse while some of the countries in the Caribbean have up to four main races and yet have managed. The problem with Africa is the mindset. Regardless of how much they break into pieces, the issue will continue. I am Canadian and nobody really asks my "state of origin". Being Canadian is enough. Everybody is from everywhere. Just pay your tax and you're welcome. Each region is autonomous. And any other language you speak asides French and English don't count. But in Africa, there's so much emotional attachment to one's region of origin to the extent that some kill for it. If Igbos leave Nigeria, the states will still fight one another. It's just sad. North America has achieved integration over a very long time. Their cooperation today didn't fall from the sky. In Europe most of these countries are hugely if not entirely homogeneous in some cases. This has greatly fostered cooperation. Africa is constructed in a very bad way with greatly disjointed nations due to senseless acts of the colonialists. While this cooperation can be achieved it will take long long years like it did America. There is a great need for African governments to allow their territories become redefined. There can't be progress without cooperation. |

[s] Atouke: What a nitwit, what you call igbo land today is sitting on ancestral ibibio land. Go read up your history, read pre colonial Aro - Ibibio wars, and ibibio - Ngwa wars. This are ibibio ancestral lands. Many ibibios migrated after the wars toward the the ocean to the present day Akwa ibom but majority stayed back to hold on to their Ancestral land and sacred grooves in both Arochukwu and Ngwa check out (Ibin Ukpabio)Arochukwu. dont be decieved by the fact that Arochukwu and Ngwa people speak igbo today does not mean that the majority of them do not know their ibibio roots . In fact most of then are fluent in both language. I know many families in those land who only marry from Akwa ibom to preserve their ibibio bloodlines. [/s] Better tell your loved ones to tie you rope before you enter market. |
