TV/MoviesRe: Half Of A Yellow Sun Confirmed As Nollywood’s Most Expensive Movie by slyk2(m): 7:07am On May 07, 2013
This is great!
N1.27b is not a big fee for an international movie.
This will surely net lots of funds.
The writer Chimamanda and her novel Half Of A Yellow Sun are popular.
The book talking about Biafra will take it to the skies.
I cant wait to watch it!

A regular salary earner and a biz person who can invest just 5k in some selected stocks monthly for about 10yrs can retire a financially independent person.

A client of mine when she was in her 3rd year lost her dad. On going through his documents, she came across a FIRST BANK certificates bearing her name and lots of unclaimed dividends.
The long story short, the stock was bought for her few weeks after her birth and she was 23yrs old when she took control of it.

23yrs ago, her late dad bought 100,000 units of FBN as birthday gift, said her mother. In 2009 she has more than 1,000,000 units of same stock due to bonuses and above 400k worth of unclaimed dividend.

If FBN gives 50 kobo yearly dividend, i think she will be better off than many people.
Think twice.

You can also transfer it to your children without considering any body.

This time last year, many people were avoiding the stock market like a plague. Yet trading was going non stop.
May were dumping their shares at any price, but who and who was buying it then?
Here comes technical investment!
1. When the market is bad and many are selling off, the real investors keeps buying.
2. You must understand daily BID and OFFER table. How demand and supply interact.
3. Insider info is a key player here. When you get info from previledged sources about a stock.
4. Understand the oscillatory movements. You buy when its low and sell when it peaks.
5. Never be gready, set out your percentage profit margin and keep to it.

I love this topic.
As the hits are growing let me draw our mind to one important thing while dealing with stock - STRATEGY.
Your game plan matters.
Do you want steady yearly income or do you want to grow a given capital over a given period of time?
With qouted companies like UBA, GTB, NB, GUINESS, FBN, NESTLE, et al, you are sure of safty of your capital, bonus/dividend yearly. These stocks are mostly for store of wealth. It is recommended for ageing civil servants and for childrens welfare funds.
If you are looking at growing your funds, you are most likely to be trading with your profits reinvested. Here technical investing is unavoidable.
We shall now look at some factors to master for you to excel with this approach.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stocks That Make You Happy All The Time by slyk2(m): 5:41am On May 05, 2013
Are you a gambler or investor?
Gamblers buy via what was recmmended. They know nothing about the characteristics of the stock they bought. They buy and hope it will raise. This is where most people who talk of stock fall in.
Investors are knowledgeable. They know how a given stock behaves. They have a reason when they buy. They succeed in making more money than gamblers.
For eg are you buying a stock coz it under priced, their investments are about yielding bumper harvest, are they giving a bonus/dividend, is there a strategic investment made, are their product among FMCG - fast moving consumer goods, etc
If you do not have such a grounded info-you may cry foul.

honey001: Okay, Thanks a lot..... will try and locate a stock broker where i am ....Please, do u know how muck stockbroker will charge me?
Brokers charge 1k to open an acc in Lagos.
Then the verification is also 1k per company, although you can bargain.
They may charge you extra if they are to help you with unclaimed dividends and unrecieved bonuses.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stocks That Make You Happy All The Time by slyk2(m): 10:56pm On May 04, 2013
honey001: Yeah. in that case, Wat happened to FINBANK shareholders?
it has transmuted to FCMB.
It now bears the name FCMB and trades on same name.

Get a stockbroker, open a CSCS acc with them, submit the cert for verification. At the point of verification, tell your chosen broker to recover all bonuses and dividends if any.
Ok?
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stocks That Make You Happy All The Time by slyk2(m): 10:50pm On May 04, 2013
As you are talking about your late mums shares, be careful never to reveal her name or the cert number to people.
Should the smart boys on Lagos Island get it, its gone.

But,
1. Get a letter of admin first. It takes a lot of process, so start now.
2. Reveal only about 30% of the sum total worth of the shares to the govt. With that you pay lesser fee. It is mandatory you pay 10% worth of any property to be transfered from a dead person to any one living.
3. Get a stockbroker, open a CSCS account. As the certs are sent in for verification, all stocks on your mums name will be transfered to the account.

Its funny reading some comments here.
A question please, those that are calling the stock market names, on what grounds did you venture into the market?
Many people heard radio/tv adverts and jumped in, while the others listened to the sales pitch of an employee who was handed a target and followed them.
No, thats not it!
All over the world, there is boom and burst period. What you must learn is how to read the market positively.
You need to be taught if you are able to pick the tricks from the trends on display.

Now, are you an investor or gambler?
Are you venturing into the market via FUNDAMENTAL or TECHNICAL approach.
I will be back soon..........

Stock is never an all comers affair!
You cannot derive the best answers about clothing materials from a bricklayer.
Although stock investment is same with any other business, you have to master it before you can play it positively.

BusinessRe: These Products Sell Without Advert:: How? by slyk2(m): 3:54pm On May 02, 2013
ITbomb: Business minds always stressed on the importance of creating awareness for your brand and product to be successful but I keep wondering how these ones succeeded without adverts.

Top
1. St Louis Sugar
2. Geisha canned fish
3. Rambo Insecticide
4. Salt (Before the advent of Dangote we have been buying salt without even knowing where it came from)
5. 'Food is Ready' This loosely held franchise doesnt need much adverts
6 Ijebu Garri : Only recently I'm seeing it in branded sachets
7. Sony : Odd as it may be, I cant recall seeing Sony Electronics Product adverts in Nigeria. I ve seen LG, Samsung and even Panasonic

The marketing/branding gurus should explain please
Economics called them essentials. Moreso, they are GIFFEN goods.

The stock deals are not for every comer.
You just have to go with a given stock that is suitable to your financial plan.
Insurance and lots of other low cap stocks are suitable for long term investor.

However, the content of some of our school work is irrelevant. Also, job creators will make more wealth than employees.

Stay away from her for some time.
If she asks for divorce, ask her to commence the process.
