Education › Re: Obi Gives N1bn To Equip School Labs And Libraries by slyk2(m): 4:08am On Oct 05, 2013 |
archangel1: A few days after Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State presented cheques to the tune of N6.5 billion for the rehabilitation of primary schools returned to the churches and those owned by the state government, as well as the upgrade of missionary hospitals, he presented another cheque of N1 billion yesterday to strengthen libraries and laboratory facilities in 420 secondary schools and those returned to the churches in the state.
Speaking during the presentation in Awka, Governor Obi said it was part of the N40 billion his government was committing in the next six months into various sectors, as final push towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
He said the money was not borrowed from any financial institution but as a result of savings, prudent management of resources and unprecedented support the state enjoyed from development partners.
Giving an insight on the last push in the area of education, the governor said in a few days time the state would employ teachers in core subjects, such as English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, among others.
According to him, this is in addition to the ongoing recruitment of 5, 000 teachers in the state whose salaries for one year after his exit from government had been saved in the bank.
He also said the state had already procured 500 buses from local manufacturers, Coscharis and Innoson, to be shared to public and private schools.
Other things he said would be provided to secondary schools before the end of the year include 25, 000 laptop installed, with full school syllables and books, generators, sick bays and internet connectivity.
On why the support is for both public and private schools, Governor Obi, who said some people raised that issue at the planning level, insisted that he was not concerned about ownership of those schools but the fact that they trained the children of the state.
He said he was encouraged because the massive support he gave to schools in the past had manifested in the improved performance of the schools in the state.
Earlier, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Mrs. Uju Okeke, said: “The event of today is one of 13 series of events to fully implemented Anambra State package on accelerative progress in the attainment of education for all in the state tagged final push.
“There is no doubt that our investment and efforts are yielding maximum results. Just recently the Basic Education Certificate Examination results released by our Exam Development Centre indicated that out of 46, 741 candidates who sat for the examination, 45, 196 (96.69 per cent) passed at Credit Levels and only 1, 545 (3.3 per cent) failed.
“In the last NECO examination into junior secondary schools, nationwide, Anambra State pupil took the overall first position. The Senior School Certificate Examination result analysis of WAEC recently released clearly shows that our schools are making significant improvement.”
In their own remarks, Commissioners for Local Government, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo and her Planning cCounterpart, Prof. Chinyere Okunna, said the good things coming to the state was because the governor had remained committed and focused in serving the people.
good move. now it is time to move into pure infrastructural development - big shopping malls, large recreational facilities, modern times estates etc http://sunnewsonline.com/new/national/obi-gives-n1bn-to-equip-school-labs-libraries/ |

When topics are thrown to the public domain, a lot of people contribute without knowing the angle of debate. How many of us have taken time to read the content of the bill signed into law by the Imo state governor? The said law never made it a free for all affair. And i dont think the governor desires unborn children to be deprived of living.
He made the provision for a select group of people. sincerely speaking, no one will allow any of his relative to carry a pregnancy that will lead her to the grave. Also, pregnancies of incest/taboo,rape et al are also offered the right to terminate such.
Today we all are championing stop the abortion slogan, but we will accent to killing an armed robber or kidnapper -- murder na murder. |

Abagworo: http://dailyindependentnig.com/2013/01/ahiara-catholic-faithful-protest-reject-appointment-of-bishop/
The protesters added: “Should the appointment of Okpalaeke succeed, half of the Ecclesiastical Province would be controlled by bishops from Onitsha Province,” stressing that, “till date, no priests or bishops from Owerri Province have been assigned as bishops, whether auxiliaries or substantive, in Onitsha.”
Members of the diocese, who were in solidarity protest with the aggrieved priests, noted that the appointment of a bishop outside priests from the diocese would weaken the people’s faith. “Our opposition to the appointment of Okpalaeke draws from our perception of the paramount importance of the salvation of the souls of our people.”
Also speaking, the president of the Ahiara Diocesan Catholic Women Organisation, Mrs. Felicia Nwogu, noted that their position was not driven by chauvinism, but by equity, justice and fairness.
She added: “We believe we have credible priests who can be made bishop, instead of imposing someone who does not understand the culture of the people and we have an obligation to reject anything that imperils the faith of our people.”
The angry faithful, who barricaded the gate to the big Cathedral, displayed placards with inscriptions like: ‘We don’t want Okpalaeke as Bishop’, ‘The Pope should rescind his decision and appoint one of our priests’, ‘Cardinal Arinze should leave our Diocese alone’. Madam CWO President, Mrs Felicia Nwogu, you are a disgrace to your position as a mother. What has catholic church has to do with a peoples culture? Shame will forever be yours if the consecrated bishop latter assume office in Ahiara diocese. For many of you heading this reject rally against Bishop Okpalaeke, may you never recieve blessings from him. Never query God when your children and many around you will say no to your leadership. |

The planned investment in agriculture is wonderful in all angles. I must say it is time for my people the easterners to wake up. Agriculture is not a hoe and matchet affair. Many comments are directed to northern domination in the sector and so it is. In eastern markets, the northerners control the following food items - yam, beans, meat, groundnut, cassava flour, onions, wheat, corn, tomatoes, carrot etc invariably, they are the real farmers. Investment in agriculture is bigger than buying and selling, we must get involved in a bigger dimension. Why not think of positioning yourself to get the funding? Unfortunately, the loans in whatever form it will come must go to farmers who owns a live farm. Do you have one? Also, it will favour large scale farmers. Think in multiples of hectres of land. This is never political, GEJ is just in the second year of four years tenure. Should everything be political? |

"It's no easy job running a country that is half-Christian, half-Muslim, underdeveloped and home to some 250 ethnic groups....."
But perhaps the greatest testimonial to the administration’s efforts in roads comes from an advert from the privately owned luxury bus operator, ABC Transport, which reads 'The Roads are Getting Better’. This is from an end user of the product.
........Nigeria still does not generate enough electricity for its population, the Jonathan administration has nonetheless increased generation from the 2800 MWs it met on ground to the present 4500 MWs Nigeria generates today a 35% improvement.
The press ought to learn to balance their reportage. An arm chair analyst is worse than a Boko Haramist.
AjanleKoko: Here is something to think about, albeit a bit controversial.
Why do lower-class blue-collar workers insist on ensuring that their children go to tertiary institutions in Nigeria? There are many cases I've seen of blue-collar workers, who can ill-afford it, bust their backs ensuring that their children all go to universities. It's noble, but is it really practical? That is a typical situation with any person who is average. Many of them do not understand the real matrix of finance. All they desire are safety nets, invariably their offsprings remains capitalist slaves. Check out the theory of families! |
