Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has attributed the financing of numerous infrastructure projects embarked by the state government to the removal of oil subsidy by the President BOLA TINUBU administration.

He made this declaration at the Government House, Enugu, during a courtesy visit by a Federal Government delegation led by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, as part of activities lined up for the 2-day Citizens’ Engagement Series in the South-East.

“For us in Enugu, we are able to accomplish all we promised our people during the campaign, thanks to the bold decision taken by President BOLA TINUBU, which has freed up resources needed to execute humongous capital projects,” Mbah said while listing ongoing projects, including the construction of 7,000 classrooms, 3,300 hospital beds and 2,000-hectare of 260 farm estates across the 260 wards of the state.

Mbah also pledged more support for the policies of the Federal Government, saying they are in the best interest of the people of the state.

Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Thursday rolled out 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses saying that the new transport system will create no fewer than 20,000 jobs and boost the economy of the state and country.

Mbah revealed this in Enugu while inaugurating the New Enugu Transport Management System, five modern bus terminals at Holy Ghost, Gariki, Abakpa and Nsukka as well as the CNG buses.

He said that the projects inaugurated would spur the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of Enugu State and the country to grow to $30 billion and $1 trillion respectively within the next six years.

According to him, the projects delivered are part of the promise he made to the people to ensure world class infrastructure, which will not only uplift the economy but dignify their living standard.

The governor said that the projects would provide the people with cheaper, accessible and seamless movement as other infrastructure meant to support the projects and the new system are already in place.

“I must commend President Bola Tinubu, whose vision and wisdom to remove fuel subsidy, have led to all the projects and change to a new transport system that is based on 21st century infrastructure and service for our people.

“I will also appreciate the state’s commissioner for transport for all efforts to make these projects a reality as well as the contractors and other people that ensured their timely delivery.

“It is a reality that transport remains the central pillar of modernisation and measure of the people’s progress; thus, touching every aspect of human life and the way the people think as well,” he said.

He noted that the state would roll out 2,000 hybrid vehicles to support the air conditioned and People with Disability friendly CNG buses.

The governor said that the CNG buses would shuttle routes leading to schools and higher institutions.

“The CNG will ensure over 40 per cent reduction in household expenses on transport and will also convey residents along markets and major places along the schools/institutions routes.

“We are remodelling all bus stops within Enugu metropolis, built and rebuilt most roads within the metropolis and other major cities in the state.

“We also placed a modern transport e-ticketing process that checks leakages and manipulations.

“Few weeks ago, we launched Enugu Air; plans have reached an advanced stage on putting rail services and waterways transport while all these projects have safety and dignity of our people as their priority,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor, said that the terminals inaugurated would entertain over 10 million commuters each year; while providing a place of comfort after long journeys or interval break from long journeys.

Ozor explained that each of the terminals have a fully air conditioned hall and television screens, eateries, lodging accommodation, fuel station, sunscreen covered walkways, solar powered security lights/systems and surveillance cameras.

“These projects are a clear vision of His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, to make Enugu State a model and point of reference in any modern infrastructure. We thank your excellency for insisting on quality and taste,” he said.

In a welcome address, the Chairman of Enugu North Council Area, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, thanked the governor for bringing order, aesthetics, employment and one-stop transport comfort with two terminals built in the Holy Ghost axis of Enugu.

“We quite appreciate all developmental efforts, which included: terminals, smart schools, smart type-2 primary healthcare centres, surveillance cameras and provision of security among others,” Onoh said.

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has criticised the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his remarks on President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips, accusing him of lacking an understanding of the link between such travels and attracting foreign investment.

Tribune Online reports that Tinubu is scheduled to leave Abuja on Thursday for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil.

In a statement on Thursday, Omokri argued that Tinubu’s trips were aimed at securing foreign capital to boost Nigeria’s economy, citing past examples of presidential travel under Olusegun Obasanjo.

He maintained that Tinubu’s overseas engagements had contributed to a $14 billion trade surplus in the last fiscal year and economic growth of 3.4 per cent, which he said international media described as Nigeria’s best economic performance in a decade.

He further pointed to the $2.5 billion investment from Brazilian meatpacker JBS, following Tinubu’s visit to Brazil, as evidence of the benefits of such diplomatic efforts.

Omokri accused Obi of being driven by political ambition to discredit the president and claimed the former Anambra governor lacked the necessary grasp of statecraft to appreciate the economic significance of international engagements.

He said, “Criticising President Tinubu’s Foreign Travels Confirms That Peter Obi Is a Petty Trader Who Should Open a Stall At Onitsha Market And Do What He Does Best.

“Please fact-check me: In his first term as President of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo travelled 103 times between 1999 and 2003. This was at a time Nigeria faced the Sharia crisis and the Niger-Delta militancy.

“President Bola Tinubu has not travelled even one-quarter of that, yet Peter Obi has been on record praising President Obasanjo as an ideal President.

“Peter Obi is just desperate to be President of Nigeria and will say anything as he grasps at straws in order to discredit the President and heat the polity.

“In any case, a President who travels out of Nigeria to bring foreign investment into Nigeria is better than a Presidential aspirant who, according to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in their Pandora Papers, illegally siphoned money out of Nigeria to hide it from the Code of Conduct Bureau.

“Why does President Tinubu have to travel periodically? Because for years before Asiwaju Tinubu became President, Nigeria’s population grew faster than our economy. And as a consequence of this Malthusian situation, Nigeria faced challenges.

“Without attracting foreign capital, like the $2.5 billion investment by the Brazilian meatpacker JBS, after President Tinubu’s visit to Brazil last year, Nigeria would not currently have its best economy in a decade.

“Peter Obi is just a local trader who doesn’t understand statecraft, which is why he keeps criticising President Bola Tinubu for taking trips.

"He is not learned enough to understand the relationship between foreign travel and foreign investment because all he knows is how to import goods and sell them for a profit. Like I said, he is a petty trader who can never make a better leader. He should open a stall at Onitsha Market and do what he does best!”

The Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Aliyu Wadada, on Tuesday, declared that he is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, despite not having completed the formalities of his defection.

Senator Wadada also said that there will be no political space for opposition political parties to contest the position of President in 2027, declaring that no candidate will have the support to defeat President Bola Tinubu.

Wadada stated the above while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, .

The Nasarawa Senator, who described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as one of the ingredients put in the pot to cook the APC, stated that he has not seen any member of the coalition, African Democratic Party, ADC, that may do better than Tinubu if voted into office in 2027.

He conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu for honoring him with a national felicitation during his turbaning as the Maga Jindengi of Lafia on August.

Reflecting on his political journey, Wadada highlighted his dynamic affiliations, revealing that before joining the SDP, he was involved with the APC even before its formal establishment and served as the national financial secretary of the PDP.

Wadada said that his move from APC to SDP was circumstantial rather than due to any grievances, and that he remained proud of SDP.

He, however, hinted that recent developments might prompt him to leave SDP, indicating a possible return to APC, although he has not officially rejoined the party yet.

He emphasized that political dynamism necessitates flexibility in affiliations.

Addressing the emergence of the ADC, Wadada expressed respect for its members but questioned their capability to offer better alternatives to the current Tinubu administration.

He challenged them to present concrete policies beyond rhetoric, particularly on issues such as subsidies, foreign exchange management, and infrastructural development, asserting that the electorate is well-informed and demands substantive solutions.

He said: “I was APC before SDP, and I was APC before APC was eventually formed …I was a national Officer of PDP too. I was the national financial secretary of PDP too. And nobody can deny the fact that PDP too was one of the ingredients that were put in the pot to cook APC.

“And so I have, I was, and I have been APC even before joining APC, and my departure from APC to SDP at the time, wasn’t that APC had done anything wrong to me. It was just circumstantial. And I wouldn’t want to bore anybody talking about circumstances that led to my departure from APC, because it came, and it’s now gone.

“And as a result of it, I went out there, saw, seen, and conquered nd that’s why today I am in the Senate on the platform of SDP.

“But there is no hiding the fact that, and I had said this earlier, sometime back, that SDP as a political party hasn’t offended me. I am still proud of SDP, but the happenings now may not warrant my continuous stay in SDP, and so I am on my way.

“I could even say that I am APC, though I have not officially moved, but I am APC, and not because SDP has offended me, just like the same way I moved from APC to SDP. Dynamism of life makes it imperative for everything in life to be dynamic.”

On the coalition in the ADC, he said that the party is “membered by Nigerians that we respect, we have respect for. But look at them. Look at each and every one of them who stands to do anything better than what Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is doing. Tell me, I haven’t seen any.

“Ask any of them if you are given the chance to preside over Nigeria, that may come beyond 2027 maybe after 2031 because between now and 2031 anybody can say what he or she wishes to say, but the space is already taken, occupied by President Asiwaju, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Who amongst them will have the courage, the impetus to tell Nigerians and the world that if I am given the opportunity to preside over Nigeria, I will return subsidy?”

On the ongoing tax reform bill, which has faced criticism, Wadada defended the legislation, noting that it exempts those earning less than 800,000 Naira annually from personal income tax and results in increased revenue for states, including Lagos, especially in the context of subsidy removal.

He called for accountability among all stakeholders—media, politicians, and citizens alike—in disseminating accurate information and fulfilling their civic duties.

Clarifying his stance, he affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s leadership, not out of sentimentality due to their shared APC roots or personal relations, but due to Tinubu’s transformative agenda which has brought unprecedented changes despite resistance to change by some quarters.

He cited infrastructural projects such as the Sokoto-Badagry and Abuja-Kano roads and the transformation in the Federal Capital Territory as tangible evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating online that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye (State Code: LA/24B/8325), popularly known as “Raye”, was denied her Certificate of National Service over criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NYSC described the allegations as false and without basis.

“Contrary to these claims, Raye is one of 131 corps members whose CNS was withheld not as punishment for dissent, but for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, her service year was extended by two months because she failed to attend the April biometric clearance, as required by the NYSC Bye-Laws,” the statement read.

The NYSC emphasised that such extensions are standard procedure and applied uniformly, with no political motive involved. According to the scheme, similar sanctions have long been imposed on corps members who fail to meet clearance obligations.

Recall that Raye had earlier attracted public attention after a TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as “smelling” went viral. She later issued an apology after facing backlash over the video.

Her comments drew support from some politicians and activists, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore and other netizens claimed that the delay in issuing her certificate was politically motivated. The NYSC, however, insists the decision is strictly procedural.

While the incident has sparked wider debate about freedom of expression, the NYSC maintains that its actions are consistent with its regulations and not linked to political considerations.

The management urged the public to assess the matter objectively and avoid politicising routine administrative processes.
