The few Yoruba words that made it into the Igbo lexicon were via our cousins (The Igala or Igara) that enslaved the ibos people for 2-3 centuries..

Biafrannuke: which Yoruba was recorded? Show us an record of people of southwest being addressed as Yorubas before the 1800s. Deceit cannot pass as history. Yoruba is derived from OriOba then it became Oruba, then it became Yoruba. Stop this history revisionism. Yoruba and igbos are not cousins. We never met until the Ajai Crowther ventured into the east.

Modern day expansionist. The era of empire building is over.
In addition, the word "Yoruba" was recorded as far back as the early 1600 by Arab travelers that explored Mali and passed through West Africa. A popular one was recored by Ahmad Baba.
Ajayi crowther was not born until over 2 centuries later. |

Plus. His bribery of the masses via dodgy donations does not in anyway help his cause in becoming the president.
He did the same was he was desperate in becoming a Minister in GEJ's administration. He still failed despite his cash and car gifts.

Politics › North Will Back Tinubu In 2027 – Gombe Governor Inuwa Yahaya by Slytiger(op): 4:49pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has declared that Northern Nigeria will once again support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern States Governors Forum, made the statement on Tuesday during the opening of a two-day meeting hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at Arewa House in Kaduna.
He said President Tinubu had kept his promises to the North and deserves the region’s continued backing.
“When Tinubu came to us as a candidate, he made specific promises to Northern Nigeria,” Yahaya said. “The North gave him more than 60 percent of its votes, and today, he is fulfilling those promises.”
He listed major federal projects underway in the region, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway, Kano–Katsina–Maradi rail line, the rehabilitation of the Kaduna refinery, the gas pipeline running from Abuja to Kano, and oil drilling at the Kolmani oilfields.
“These are not just projects, they represent growth and energy security for our people,” he said. “We must reward performance in 2027.” https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2025/07/29/breaking-north-will-back-tinubu-in-2027-gombe-gov-inuwa-yahaya/

WizardOfNG: Bro, Obasa warned them, after they showed their hand in the 2023 election blindly backing the bigoted GRV to take over Lagos, but they took no heed as an egotistic people who always underestimate and disregard others.
Yoruba conservatism is on the rise as a result of the negative and malevolent energy others paid us back with, for decades now, when they took our liberalism, tolerance and accomodating mien for mumuism.
Their 2023 election folly with GRV, when they wanted to prove they are now bigger than Yorubas in Lagos, broke the Camel's back. After that, many Yorubas vowed openly, "never again". As Obasa did below.

casualobserver: your problem is you comment on a matter that is beyond your knowledge. I will repeat for you and for anyone reading. The lagos you call federal territory is ikoyi, VI, lagos island and yaba. The rest of what is now lagos state were annexed territories from ijebu, Egba, yewa and Egun people and are larger by land mass and population than the cindigines of the original lagos federal territory. the inhabitants of these tribes intermarried so it should not be surprising to the knowledgeable that a man whose father comes from Ogun Osun, Oyo etc is a also a lagosian. If my father comes from ijebu Ode and my mother comes from Epe, they are both Ijebu. These places which today make up 93% of Lagos state were under the western region and were not and never called or part of the federal capital. For example Epe, Lekki and Ikorodu are ijebu people! Recently the oba of Epe lost a large expanse of land to the late Awujale because that land was ancestral Ijebu land tied to the palace in ijebu. If as part of the creation of Lagos state you remove some ijebu people from Western region and add them to the new state called lagos state, they dont stop being Ijebu people by ancestry. By the same token it shouldnt surprise you that some people even though they today be classified as coming from ogun state are also ancestrally linked to lagos state as a result of the annexation of their ancestral lands to create lagos state. for example on the mothers side. this is the reason someone like Yayi can be a senator in lagos state and ogun state.
either way a state is an artificial concept, tomorrow lagos or Imo or Kaduna states may not exist but the ancestry, origins and cultural identity of the inhabitants doesnt change.
An Ife man is an Ife man whether ife was under Southern protectorate, western region, western state, Oyo state or Osun state. He remains an indigine of Ife and remains in his ancestral land.
Lagos State is made of up the original indigines of what was the federal territory of lagos plus the other yoruba subnationals, ijebus, egba, yewas, eguns, ijeshas etc that were carved out of the western region and amalgamated to make the new Lagos STATE!
i dont understand ibo culture, you wont find me commenting on their culture. Apart from being a sign of someone well raised, if you dont know the history of nuances of other peoples cultures or inter relationships, its best to either ask or keep your mouth shut! Gbam. When Yayi showed up interest in contesting for senate in ogun. My oba in Ifako Ijaiye travelled to Yewa and met his other yewa obas in Ogun state to support him. Even at every Awori function in the island, you will always find the kabiyesi Olofin isheri from Ogun state travel down to Lagos Island for those traditional events. |
