ogashman: I believe if u travel to the US, after 10years u would file for citizenship but u don't want same thing to apply to Nigeria and yet u want Nigeria to remain one You are confusing indegenity with Citizenship. I am sure you know that their are aboriginals in the US that have specific benefits only available to them. In addition, the settlement colony called USA is a bad example. To prevent the calamity that happened to native Americans where they were almost wiped out, then the bill would be trashed. |

DomPerignon: SS and SW should brace up if this bill passes through because many people from one side will start migrating and settling in both regions so as to become citizens. They are not smart. Fulani will use that bill to invade the middle belt and the SE as well. Just a few days ago, fulanis were chasing them from their lands in Enugu. Same way ironsi created the unification decree that came to bite them in the arse. |

Politics › Herdsmen Attacks Displace 7,000, Force 1,000 Children Out Of School In Enugu by Slytiger(op): 1:49pm On Mar 26, 2025 |
Over 1,000 children have been forced out of school due to the ongoing crisis in Abor Isiala and Iheenyi communities in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria, according to a coalition of civil society organisations.
The coalition, comprising the South Saharan Social Development Organization (SSDO) and the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), stated that the crisis began in 2022 and has displaced at least 7,000 residents, resulting in the loss of lives, businesses, and property.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Enugu, the coalition attributed the displacement to repeated attacks by armed herdsmen attempting to graze in the area.
SaharaReporters recently reported that women from the seven autonomous communities in Eha-Amufu staged a protest after a final-year student was killed and a woman was raped while returning from the farm.
The coalition condemned the escalating attacks, which they said have claimed hundreds of lives and devastated businesses and property.
They revealed that over 1,064 children remain out of school, while only 456 have managed to return since the crisis began.
Director, JDPC, Enugu, Rev. Fr Donatus Onuigbo, stated that the situation in the two communities and other surrounding communities “is not just a tragedy, but an ongoing humanitarian crisis that has left countless families broken and displaced”
Onuigbo added that many have left their farms and businesses.
He said: “These communities have endured brutal attacks that have spiralled into violent confrontations. Armed herdsmen and their collaborators have wreaked havoc, driven communities from their homes and upended the lives of those who once thrived there.
“What makes the crisis even more disturbing is the disproportionate impact it has had on women and children. They bear the brunt of this violence in the most harrowing way, including facing hunger, disease and physical assault.
"Some women have suffered brutal sexual violence, and children, who should be in school, are now left traumatised, displaced, and deprived of an education.
“The attack on farmlands has also left communities without a means of survival and the economic fallout from the destruction of crops and businesses continues to deepen the crisis, and there is no sign that this suffering will end unless immediate and decisive action is taken."
Onuigbo, who was flanked by members of the communities, stated that despite the deployment of security forces intermittently in the area, the attack has become a yearly occurrence.
“We cannot stand by and allow this crisis to continue without action. We, therefore, call on the state government, under the leadership of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to take immediate and concrete steps to address the suffering of the people of Abor Isiala and Ihenyi communities and other communities affected by this conflict without delay,” he said.
He also called on the state government to provide immediate humanitarian relief for the affected families, which should include cash for food, clothing, survival kits and medical supplies. Onuigbo urged the government to take decisive action by identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible for the attacks in the region.
He also called for the restoration of normalcy, including facilitating the return of children to school and rebuilding the lives of farmers and business owners who had suffered devastating losses.
SaharaReporters learnt that at least 42 farm settlements across four autonomous communities in Eha-Amufu have been overrun by marauding herdsmen, leaving residents displaced and forced to seek refuge in neighbouring areas. https://saharareporters.com/2025/03/25/armed-herdsmen-attacks-displace-7000-force-over-1000-children-out-school-enugu

Politics › Tinubu Unveils 125KM Benin-Asaba Highway by Slytiger(op): 12:31am On Mar 24, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, unveiled the 125km Benin-Asaba Highway, expected to be completed within 30 months.
Tinubu was represented at the unveiling by the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Okpebholo said the road is a legacy project and Edo State is now becoming like Lagos in terms of infrastructural development.
He thanked the President for the love shown to Edo State under his watch as governor.
He said, “The President loves Edo State so much so that whenever he sees me, he always asks me about the welfare of the Edo people and also that of the Oba of Benin.
“The good things happening in Lagos are now also happening here in Edo State and we have made progress under my watch as governor.”
“We once had a president from this region that never remembered us. Edo is a gateway to the nation and when the roads are bad, the economy of the state will be bad as well.”
Okpebholo thanked the president for his vision for the nation, saying the people are enjoying the dividends of democracy following the good initiatives his administration has embarked on.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, commended the visionary leadership of Okpebholo who he said has turned the state into a construction site in less than 150 days in office.
The minister also thanked Tinubu for his love for the people of Edo State, saying as a minister, he has visited the state about three times for projects.
He also commended Okpebholo who he said has demonstrated love and commitment for his people by embarking on people-oriented projects like the flyover at Ramat Park in Benin City, the state capital.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, thanked the president for his foresight in ensuring that the people of Nigeria enjoy good roads across the country, assuring the people that the finances for the project are available; as such, the projects from start to finish are sure.
Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, also appreciated the president for what he is doing for the people of Edo and Delta State, appealing to him to extend the road to Onitsha Bridge.
Oborevwori, represented by his deputy, Monday Onyeme, said the road is a critical infrastructure that connects the Eastern and Western regions of Nigeria.
He noted that the road will improve the standard of living of the people urging all to work together to ensure successful completion.

Politics › Okpebholo Assures 2027 Victory For Tinubu, As 17 Of 18 Acting LG Chairmen Defect by Slytiger(op): 7:21pm On Mar 19, 2025 |
THE governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo on Wednesday consolidated his hold on the polity of the state when he received 17 Acting chairmen out of the 18 local government areas in the state where he predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election with a landslide.
He received the defectors at the New Festival Hall of Government House, Benin City, where he praised the leadership style of President Tinubu adding that the steps that the previous administration was.. afraid to take that would have put the nation on a sound footing for development and growth is what he took by removing the contentious fuel subsidy.
The Governor said his administration is ready to work to change the lives of the people for the better, adding that in just four months in office, he and his team have changed the narrative of Edo State.
He said: “I welcome you all our Chairmen who have come to join us, and I praise you for the courage and bravery to leave your party to join the APC. It takes a grounded politician to take this step you have taken today.
“Let me draw your minds back to where we are coming from as an administration. We practically met that Edo state was not working when we came into office. What we met in Edo were insecurity, killings, looting the Edo treasury using consultants to deceive Edo people and other backward policies implemented by the Obaseki led administration, but we came and changed the narrative.”
He also thanked the councillors who spoke for their various communities through the impeachment exercises in the councils and subsequent election of these new chairmen across the 17 local government areas of Edo State.
“2027 is a reality in Edo State as President Bola Amed Tinubu will continue in office. I charge the 17 of you today that the campaign for the election of President Bola Tinubu has started here today. Go back to your various local governments and erect his billboards to draw home the message of re-electing President Tinubu.
“There is no vacancy in 2027 in Abuja. Those forming a political party now can’t rule us. They ruled their States and the people suffered from kidnapping, but since they left offices, their States are now free. Such people can’t rule Nigeria,” he declared.
The party secretary who received the decampees on behalf of the APC, Lawrence Okah thanked the new members, urging them to unite with other members of the party as the administration of Governor Okpebholo has come to rescue the State from retrogression.
Responding on behalf of the Chairmen, the ALGON chairman and chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Kelvin Iyere thanked the Governor and all APC party faithful for accepting them into the fold of the APC.
Reacting to the defection, the PDP alleged that the governor gave the defectors N2 million each.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare said “We condemn in the strongest terms the reckless use of state resources to purchase support and loyalty, while critical sectors of the state remain in dire need of government intervention, from security to public safety and order, revenue generation, education, and healthcare, among others.
“The security crisis in the last few weeks has claimed the lives of at least 40 innocent Edo citizens, who are victims of the brutality of herders, kidnappers, and other violent attacks. The activities of thugs and non-state actors who have continued to harass, intimidate and extort citizens of the State have remained unabated, leaving the majority of residents in fear and causing a drastic fall in revenue generation.
“As a party, we remain confident that the judiciary will correct the injustice of September 21, 2024, and return the stolen mandate to the PDP and Asue Ighodalo, whom the people of Edo State overwhelmingly voted for in the last governorship election so as to bring an end to Okpebholo and APC’s rascality in the State.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/03/okpebholo-assures-2027-victory-for-tinubu-as-17-of-18-acting-lg-chairmen-defect-to-apc/
