Jesus orders Christians to follow the Old Testament's laws: "Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. ) . If the groom found the new bride not virgin, he could complain to the elders, and if true, the woman was stoned in front of her father’s house ( Deu 22:20,21 ). |
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity." This doesn't make any sense what so ever! Why should the woman get her hands cut off for defending her husband? It's not like she was cheating on him or anything like that! Matthew 19:9 "I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery. " Wouldn't this cause the man to be put to death? |

Hero10001:during which a group of people, usually peers of the guilty party, throws stones at the condemned person until he or she dies. Death by stoning was prescribed in the Old Testament Law as a punishment for various sins. Both animals and people could be the subjects of stoning (Exodus 21:28 ), and stoning seems to have been associated with sins that caused irreparable damage to the spiritual or ceremonial purity of a person or an animal. Some sins that resulted in stoning in the Old Testament were murder (Leviticus 24:17 ), idolatry (Deuteronomy 17:2–5 ), approaching near to Mount Sinai while the presence of God was there (Exodus 19:12–13 ), practicing necromancy or the occult (Leviticus 20:27 ), and blaspheming the name of the Lord (Leviticus 24:16 ). Stoning was probably the punishment for various types of sexual sin, as well (Deuteronomy 22:24 ); the related passages in Leviticus 20 do not specify the method of execution, only that the guilty party was to be “put to death.” The Mosaic Law specified that, before anyone could be put to death by stoning, there had to be a trial, and at least two witnesses had to testify: “On the testimony of two or three witnesses a person is to be put to death, but no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness” ( Deuteronomy 17:6 ). Those witnesses “must be the first in putting that person to death, and then the hands of all the people” (verse 7). In other words, those who testified against the condemned person in court had to cast the first stone. Examples of stonings in the Old Testament are the deaths of Achan and his family (Joshua 7:25 ) and Naboth, who was condemned by false witnesses (1 Kings 21). Stoning was the method of execution chosen by the unbelieving Jews who persecuted the early Christians. Stephen, the church’s first martyr, was stoned to death outside of Jerusalem by the Sanhedrin. On that occasion, a young man named Saul, who later became the apostle Paul, held the coats of those who cast the stones ( Acts 7:54–60 ). |

The legendary Nostradamus probably reincarnated in me during the historic run-up to the 2015 general elections inmy article titled “Asiwaju Nourishing Vipers In His Bosom”, which was published by both local and foreign media about eight months ago. In a swift response and reaction, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the Lagos State APC publicity secretary got it all twisted and severely criticised the piece, accusing me of wanting to fell the evergreen holm oak – the Asiwaju of the Yoruba race. Upon my soul, my intentions were not only misjudged, misrepresented but ultimately misconstrued. There is no denying Tinubu’s place in history for he has doubtless become an iconic figure in Nigerian politics. Heis an astute politician and political strategist who has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle. Tinubu began his political career following his election as a senator in the short-lived Nigerian Third Republic. His daring exploits began in 1993 when the election that would have brought the late MKO Abiola to power was annulled by the self-styled evil genius, ex-military president Ibrahim Babangida. Nigerians on June 12 went out and voted en masse for the above-named uncrowned winner. That was the election in Nigeria that for the first time succeeded in cutting across ethnic and religious divides but IBB, ashe is fondly called, had it annulled, andthe sovereign wish of the Nigerian electorate was ultimately bastardised.During that period, it became clear that the military was not ready to relinquish its hold on power in Nigeria and Tinubu, along with other Nigerians, embarked on a pro-democracy struggle under the auspices of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), with many peoplegetting killed during Abacha’s reign of terror. It was all in a bid to revalidate the result of June 12 and restore the stolen mandate. This saw his flight from Nigeria on self-exile, from where he continued the struggle to return Nigeria to civil democratic rule. As circumstances would have it, his efforts did not see the light of the day. Abiola died while in detention. The curtain at this juncture was torn in twoand the Nigerian political firmament emanated gloom, anxiety and uncertainty, which led to a series of demonstrations across the country. Nigeria eventually returned to civil democratic rule in 1999, with Tinubu elected as the Lagos State governor under the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD).Those were, indeed, interesting times. Tinubu delved into work immediately and in no time the plot against Lagos was foiled by his policies to restore thestate’s lost glory. This he achieved by dint of hard work to reposition the state on the path of socio-politico and economic development. This found expression in infrastructural renewal and development that ultimately madeLagos a reference point in governance in Nigeria till date. Continuity has always been the watchword of his handpicked successors.Lagos, Nigeria’s number one city and economic hub became the cynosure of all eyes in Nigeria and beyond. Many Nigerians thus wanted the developmental strides in Lagos replicated in their states. In the elections that followed, Tinubu’s party rose to capture states in the South-West under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) control, notably Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and later Edo State. Tinubu had, by this time, become a formidable political force to reckon with and this brought him national prominence.Having successfully established himself as a power broker and icon of Nigerian politics, especially in the South-West, the most developed region in Nigeria, Tinubu as a king maker became a force to be wooed if one were to go far in the bid to get Nigeria’s plum job. Former President Jonathan had no option but to seek hissupport in the hotly contested election of 2011. Tinubu’s political machine in the South-West roared into motion, on which former President Jonathan sat and rode to power with the country’s North, especially the core Hausa-Fulani States throwing their weight behind the candidate of the defunct Congress For Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.)Former President Jonathan, grapevine sources say, brokered one tenure agreement with the Northern political gladiators who visibly frowned at his subsequent interest and desire for a second term. Thus every antic was employed to frustrate him in order to get back their ‘slot’ and return power to the North. Tinubu and the South-West became a Hobson’s choice and the wooing of the Great Oak began, as they sought solace under its branches. On Bourdilon Road Ikoyi, residence of the Asiwaju, a series of meetings ensued which were to change the political climate of Nigeria. Another agreement was brokered with the South-West forming a political alliance with Hausa-Fulani oligarchy. This brought about a merger that gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC). With Tinubu at the forefront, thepresidential primaries took place in Lagos, Nigeria and through the agencyof Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Muhammadu Buhari clinched the ticket to contest the presidency again, which he had previously lost three consecutive times. With Tinubu delivering the whole of South-West votes to APC, save Ekiti State, Buhari ‘won’ the 2015 presidential election and former President Jonathan’s early concessionof defeat saved a nation and people who were dangerously on the brink from the agony of bloodshed.Today Buhari is Nigeria’s ‘elected’ President; the man who sits on the throne presiding over the affairs of over170 million Nigerians. His success story will not be complete without mentioning the pivotal role played by the Great Oak – the Asiwaju of the Yoruba race, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This dogged fighter on whose back the North and Buhari rode back to power deserves a pat on the back, all things considered.Today, I often read the diatribes in popular Nigerian dailies downplaying the efforts of a man who sacrificed andcontributed so much to Nigeria’s democracy, and more so on whose back the North rode back to power in Nigeria. I often sit back with mouth agape in bewilderment on hearing the strings of invectives and false commentary heaped on a man who bankrolled the APC to the seat of power in Abuja. The question that agitates one’s mind is: does Tinubu deserve the treatment being meted outto him by northern political gladiators? When caught trying to reap where you did not sow, you are labeled a thief andcharged with theft. Many who criticise him today stayed aloof while the battleraged to kick the military out of power in Nigeria. President Buhari, the major beneficiary today of Tinubu’s prodemocracy struggle had himself tucked away in the desert city of Daura, Katsina State. But today he bestrides the Nigerian political world like a colossus in his capacity as the ‘elected’ President of Nigeria while the major power broker is surprisingly being kept tabs on, to cut him down to size. This could be likened to none other than the foolish counsel of Ahithophel in one of the Bible stories, by his kith and kin of Northern extraction, which the President has taken hook, line and, sinker. This ought not to be after all!Events playing out in the NASS election and the President’s reaction calls for concern. Buhari, we read, in the dailies has insisted on the party supremacy. We have read, times without number, when his apologists of Northern extraction have advised that Tinubu and Amaechi be paid off tomake it a strictly Northern presidency. Upon my soul, I saw it coming and aptly rose to caution Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Buhari is none other than a viper, which he was nourishing in hisbosom. Events playing out today have proven me right. What and who Nigeria urgently stands in need of are none other than peoples’ redemption programmes and competent technocrats to regenerate Nigeria fromits obvious paralysis, but his folks of Northern extraction have hijacked power, a reality which we all shall soon be awoken to. Do they need reminding that 2019 is not an eternity away?Iyoha John Darlington, aka Lington Donovan a social activist, political analyst and public commentator on national and global issues writes from Turin, Italy.. http://blogs.premi |
“Whereas the PDP recognizes the right and powers of the President to appointthe Chairman of INEC and the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), we reject attempts as in the case of the AGF to paint the process astransparent and objective when such was not the case, but brought to question the sincerity and commitment of the present administration to due process.“ In INEC, the PDP states in unequivocal terms that we cannot, as critical stakeholders fold our hands and watch while the Presidency perpetuate actions that diminish the independence of the electoral commission.“The PDP has declared the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as unacceptable and demand that President Buhari changes her immediately.“ Our reasons include the fact that due process was not observed in the appointment and that Mrs. Zakari has shown in the last elections that she is manifestly bias in favour of the APC. Finally her appointment is a clear caseof nepotism.“ We ask, if they trusted Prof. Jega and commended him for conducting free and fair elections, why would they not trust him on who to hold forth in the commission until a substantive Chairman is appointed, rather than appointing someone who is retiring from the commission in the next three weeks?“With the prevailing record of Mr. President on appointments, it is unlikely that a substantive INEC Chairman will be appointed in the nextone year. Is there a hidden agenda? Has Mrs. Zakari been handed a script to act given that we have cases in the tribunals in addition to the forthcoming elections in Kogi and Bayelsa?Metuh who insisted that the APC was derailing, said that it was unfortunate that thirty- two days after inauguration, elected into power over three months ago on the basis of their numerous promises to the Nigerian people, strong indications have emerged that the party and President Buhari were not adequately equipped and ready to chart a direction for the enormous challenges of governance.According to PDP, in the last one month, the APC and the government have failed to provide the change as they claim, as Nigeria was presently witnessing avoidable tension, wrangling within the ruling party, disruption of legislative activities in the National Assembly, painful economic stagnation.Warning the APC against the pronouncement of voodoo achievements, the PDP stressed that the country was witnessing what it described as overall uncertainty in the polity all due to the apparent inability of President Buhari to provide good governance and leadership.Metuh said, “today marks exactly thirty-two days of the inauguration of a new administration under the APC, which was elected into power over three months ago on the basis of their numerous promises to the Nigerian people.“ Even though this government has continued to plead for patience, we areworried that indications from President Muhammadu Buhari and hisparty do not inspire desired confidencein the citizenry that they are adequately equipped and ready to chart a direction for the enormous challenges of governance.“In the last one month, instead of a journey to change as they claim, all wehave witnessed are avoidable tension, wrangling within the ruling party, disruption of legislative activities in our National Assembly, painful economic stagnation, pronouncement of voodoo achievements and overall uncertainty in the polity all due to the apparent inability of our respected President to provide leadership.“ We have a President and a party that have since thirty–two days been unable to decide on rudimentary appointments such as Secretary to theGovernment of the Federation (SGF), Chief of Staff to the President, ministers and his demand for 15 Special Advisers as approved by the PDP controlled Seventh Assembly since June 5, 2015.“ Even the very little intervention made on appointments such as those of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) and the Acting Chairman of INEC, have not shown our beloved President as an evenhanded and patriotic leader resulting in the confusion and crisis of confidence thathave trailed the two appointments.“Furthermore, the PDP finds it sycophantic, insincere and the height of deceit for the APC to continue to deceive President Buhari by parading voodoo achievements and pretending that all is well with the nation even when it is obvious that the governmenthas not been able to locate its bearing.“The PDP also finds unacceptable APC’s continued playing on the intelligence of the people by dishing out imaginary achievements in the media even when it is evident to all that the nation is stagnating, a clear indication that the ruling party and the President lack direction and capacity to meet the expectations of Nigerians. “It is indeed amusing that a party in power in a press conference on Tuesday claimed progress in the fight against terrorism when the effort has lost steam in the last thirty-two days with insurgents, who under the Goodluck Jonathan administration were already at the verge of surrender in the Sambisa now surging back into the country.”Without sounding immodest, the PDP has suddenly woken up. The arrogance and impunity that made them boast that they would rule for sixty years have disappeared. It taken to serious propaganda, a tool forthe opposition party if it must be heard. We watch how this would be sustained for it requires vigour, it requires prompt responses to calls, text messages, it requires additional manpower, research, listening, collaboration, respect for the media and its owners, total humility, among others. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/suddenly-olisa-metuh-has-woken-up/ |
Many monitoring Nigerian politics must be wondering about the new spirit in Olisa Metuh of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.Before the crash of his party in the last Presidential election Metuh, like other PDP big shots, appeared media unfriendly if not arrogant. It was difficult to get his reactions on many issues, his position as the spokesman of his party notwithstanding. His APC counterpart, Lai Mohammed remaineda reporter’s dream. But having taken the seat of the opposition Chief Olisa Metuh has, in the past few weeks, become the roaring lion, the barking dog.The PDP has suddenly become proactive, raising issues for the ruling APC to respond to. This is contrary to when it would wait for the APC before it would respond and in some cases would refuse to comment, probably because it was the ruling party and notready to join issues.Only on rare occasions then that Metuh would respond and even when he did, he was very careful.Little wonder, former President Goodluck Jonathan brought in Chief Femi Fani- Kayode as the spokesman of his Campaign organisation and funded him. Fani- Kayode became vibrant, he took on personalities, leaders of the APC, the then presidential Candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari. It was almost ona daily basis, PDP was in the news, butat the end of the day, the party lost the elections. Fani championed a seeminghate campaign that seemed to win sympathy for Buhari. PDP goofed.Olisa MetuhPDP’s failure at the election may be attributable to many things, from impunity to arrogance, lack of effectivemedia machinery prior to the inauguration of the Campaign Committee, just as Metuh had always complained of lack of money. Now, the party has no choice, it must be in the news. It must react to issues. It must even be proactive. And suddenly, Metuh has woken up. He is now playing the role of the Spokesman.Shortly after the defeat, Lai Mohammed offered to give Metuh a free, six-week crash course on his new role as the opposition party spokesman in the spirit of cooperation and for the advancement of the nation’s democracy.Mohammed had said, Metuh will need the training to effectively carry out his new, tough task. It is now obvious thathe needs to understand that for him to succeed in his new role, he must be credible, empirical, more sophisticatedin language use and very passionate, in addition to being able to operate on a lean or zero budget.Rejecting the offer to have a free crash course on speaking for an opposition party, Metuh described the offer as arrogant and self-serving.The PDP’s response was contained a statement signed by Olisa Metuh’s spokesperson, Richard Ihediwa where he said, “Alhaji Mohammed in his usual ill-mannered and condemnable approach left the issues and dwelt on insults, disdainful comments and personal attacks,” the statement said. The attack from Metuh as a spokesperson of an Opposition party did not stop at that as he vowed that the PDP would provide a decent and credible opposition that will constructively proffer sound alternatives to the policies and programmes of the in-coming administration without recourse to insults, propaganda and deceit.Metuh had said, “The PDP is a politicalparty built on values, tradition and utmost respect for democratic tenets. Our manifesto and ideology center on national peace, stability and prosperity and we shall uphold this at all times. In this wise, the PDP as always, will continue to work in the general interest of the Nigerian people.“We will not resort to insults, blackmail and lies with the aim to distract or ridicule the person or office of the President. However, we must state in very strong terms that we will not allow them to lead the nation astray. So we will firmly oppose any anti-people policy and programmes asmay be introduced by the APC.Commenting on the conduct of the April 11, 2015 governorship and state assembly elections, Metuh lamented that the process was characterized by brazen irregularities against the PDP in most states. He upbraided INEC andsecurity agencies for the barefaced over zealousness on the part of some of their personnel to please the winners of the Presidential elections. When former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso attacked the PDP, Metuh as a spokesperson for an opposition party lampooned the former governor and now a Senator, warning Kwankwaso to be mindful of what it termed, his incendiary utterances thatwere capable of destabilizing the National Assembly as well as rubbishthe prevailing political tranquility in the country.Metuh who told the former governor not to be ungrateful to the party as it was “taken aback by the venom and bitterness in the statement especially coming from a former governor, an elected senator, a highly respected former member of the PDP, who also benefited hugely from the party as minister and two-time state governor.”When Senator Bukola Saraki and Honourable Yakubu Dogara were elected Senate President and Speaker, House of Representatives respectively and the APC planned to sanction them,Metuh described such statements as empty threats, adding that such boasts by the leadership of the party were aimed at covering APC’s naivety, inexperience and unpreparedness for governance.According to PDP, the APC should shed what it termed, its arrogance, eat the humble pie and get more organized for governance, adding thatthe ruling party lacks the capacity, capability and means to sanction duly elected leaders of the National Assembly. He said, “the crass inexperience so far displayed by the APC is a pointer that it is not adequately equipped to handle the affairs of government at the center. Events would continue to prove the PDP right in this regard.“Nothing can be more astonishing than the whining by the APC that the PDP at the last minute expressed its preference for Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively after it had earlier stated that it was not interested in the positions. This calls to question the capacity, experience and skills of APC leaders on political matters and we have no apology whatsoever for their naivety.“The APC is merely suffering the consequences of the greed, lust for power and inordinate ambitions of their leaders. They should note that Nigerians have since moved ahead with the new leaders in the National Assembly and stop wasting their energy on propaganda and blackmails to heat up the polity.”When President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Hajia Amina Bala Zakari as Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP immediately rejected in totality such appointment, alleging that the presidency plans to use her appointment to compromise the Election Tribunals in favour of the APC.Metuh, while addressing Journalists stressed that with her appointment, the public no longer have confidence and trust in INEC, alleging that she was made the acting INEC Chairman because of her very strong relationshipwith the presidency and a governor from the North West who influenced the position for her.He said, “The PDP is particularly disturbed by the development in INEC where President Buhari, who knew all along that the immediate-past INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega would beleaving office by June 30, had to wait for him to handover to one of the national commissioners only to reverse it immediately, thereby injecting bad blood in the commission.“The situation in INEC since the PDP government reformed and granted it operational autonomy has been peaceful, but Tuesday’s untidy overruling of Prof. Jega and the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as acting chairman which, we gathered was influenced by personal relationship with the Presidency and one of the new governors of the North West, ostensibly to pave the way for the APC at the electoral tribunals, has completely eroded public trust in the commission. |

Governor Nyesom Wike ofRivers state and the immediate past first lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan have been accused of a multi-billion naira fraud. The alleged fraudulent activities occurred in the Universal Basic EducationCommission (UBEC) underthe supervision of Wike at the time he was the minister of state for education.READ ALSO: How APC Urges President Buhari To Probe WikeAccording to a group operating under the aegis of Nigeria Against Corruption Group (NACG), itwas alleged that Wike siphoned billions of naira under the UBEC program when he was in charge of the education ministry. The statement issued and signed by the group’s national coordinator, Mr Tayo Olusola, revealed thatWike and the former first lady connived to swindle the billions of naira as the pair sought means of generating funds ahead of last election in the state.“Investigation conducted by us revealed that the Rivers governor and the former first lady, allegedly plundered over N180 billionfrom the UBEC purse using fronts in the commissions office,”the statement madeavailable to Global Village Extra, a US-based online newspaper, read in part. Some sources also confirmed that UBEC programs and contracts during the tenure of Chief Wike as the minister, were used as a facade to loot billions of naira for little or no work done.“But the man who runs the operations on behalf of Wike and directs which account and fund to privilege is Mr. Hama, the so called SA to the executive secretary of UBEC.READ ALSO:Chief Tony Okocha Had His Car Taken Away By Wike’s Order“The SA tag is just a camouflage because the man is the defector Executive Secretary of UBEC. The executive secretary, Dr Dikko dares not take any decision or implement anything without clearance from Mr, Hama who is one of Wike’s enforcers at UBEC.“Any program or project that does not provide an easy avenue for stealing huge sums of money does not get any attention no matter how vital that project may be to the educational system.”The statement also revealed some fraudulent activities carried out by both Wike and Mrs Jonathan which they reportedly used in stealing billions of naira:Teachings:Billions of Naira are stolen each year by arrangement of bogus teaching programs in luxury hotels where little or nothing is achieved but billions of naira are budgeted and wasted as the monies find its way into private pockets. One of such fraudulent teachings schemes that occurred under Mr. Wike is now being investigated by the EFCC.The investigation involves the top management of UBEC and one of the fronts used in siphoning the money but, was not settled according to plan.In the said case, over 100 million naira was siphoned from UBEC for a fraudulent teaching program but, all that took place was a jamboree in a five star hotel.Vocational Schools:Billions of Naira was budgeted for the building ofvocational schools but in most cases not much was done even though huge sums had been disbursed and have vanished under the watchful eyes of Mr. Wike.Instructional Material Funds:This is the biggest fraud that has been going on since the Jonathan administration came into office. During Wike’s tenurealone, over 60 billion was on the dubious supply of free text books to students, but, actual amount of books supplied is not more than N5 billion and the books in usable condition out there in the schools are not up to 200 million worth of books. The free textbooks supply scheme is a perfect cover for high yield frauds because billions of naira is budgeted to address a need that does not exist since parents are already providing these books for their wards. So nobody is clamoring for the books and nobody complains if they are not delivered. More importantlythere is no way of verifying whether the supply was made since there is no standing stock as the books are assumed to be inthe hands of the students. So each year the actual amount committed to supply of textbooks is about 10-15% of the budgeted amount, just for the purpose of launching the scheme in the states, the rest goes into private pockets. That is why the textbook supply is such a favored project in UBEC because everyone from UBEC headquarters to the SUBEBS are settled while the student and our education system are short-changed.The involvement of the former first lady and Gov. Nyesom Wike made the textbook contractors untouchable. So while our schools remain empty without proper learning, theyearly pillage of government money goes on.READ ALSO:Wike Vows To Demote Traditional Rulers Loyal To AmaechiThe group has now called on president Buhari to beam his searchlight on thedefaulting pair and empower the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute government officials including former ministers who stole billions of naira during their tenure.Only last week, the education agency asked the governor to return the 15 trucks he used during his campaign prior to his election. http://www.naij.com/474160-how-wike-patience-jonathan-allegedly-swindled-n182bn.html |
Dua Astaghfar (Forgiveness) /دعاء أستغفر Astaghfar means seeking forgiveness of Allah for the sins so far committed and turning repentant unto Allah. Allah has created us weak and we are likely to make mistakes and transgress. At the same time Allah has allowed us to seek forgiveness. Forgiveness is very important in Islam. By constantly turning to Allah for forgiveness of our sins, we learn humility. Our Creator time and time again tells His creation to repent so that they may be forgiven. And seek forgiveness of Allah .Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful. Surat An-Nisa 4:106 And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful. Surat An-Nisa 4:110 Allah is Ar-Rahman, the MostCompassionate, and Ar-Raheem, the Most Merciful. He loves that we ask Him for forgiveness and He has promised to forgive. Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped. Surat Az-Zumar 39:53-54. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle salallahu alaihi wasallam said, “Our Lord, the blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? ”Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 21 Hadith 246. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's apostle said, “When Allah created the creations, He wrote with Him on His Throne: ‘My Mercy has preceded My Anger. ”Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 93 Hadith 545 Narrated by Anas ibn MalikAnas heard the Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam say: Allah, the Exalted, has said: “O son of Adam! Certainly I shall continue to pardon thee so long as thou supplicatest Me and hopest (for My forgiveness), whatever may be thy faults and sins, I don’t care. O son of Adam, even if thy sins pile up as high as the sky, and thou askest for My forgiveness, I will forgive thee. O son of Adam, if thou comest to Me with an earthful of defaults and meetest Me, not associating anything with Me, I will come to thee, with an earthful of forgiveness. ”All-Tirmidhi – Hadith 442 Narrated by Abdullah ibn UmarThe Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Allah, the Lord of honour and glory, will accept the repentance of His servant till his death-rattle begins. ”Al-Tirmidhi – Hadith 18 Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam, Allah’s beloved Messenger would constantly ask for Allah’s forgiveness .Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying.” By Allah! I ask for forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day. ”Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 75 Hadith 319 Narrated Abdullah bin Amr: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet “O Allah’s Apostle! Teach me an invocation with which I may invoke Allah in my prayers.” The Prophet said, “Say: O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ”Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 93 Hadith 485 Thauban reported: When the Messenger of Allah salallahu alaihi wasallam finished his prayer, he begged forgiveness three times and said: O Allah! Thou art Peace, and peace comes from Thee; Blessed art thou, O Possessor of Glory and Honour. Walid reported: I said to Auza’i: How is the seeking of forgiveness? He replied: You should say:, I beg forgiveness from Allah, I beg forgiveness from Allah. ”Sahih Muslim – Book 4 Hadith 1222 Narrated Shaddad bin Aus: The Prophet salallahu alahi wasallam said “The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: للَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ‘Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana abduka, wa ana ‘ala ahdika wawwa’dika mastata’tu, A’udhu bika min Sharri ma sana’tu, abu’u Laka bini’matika ‘alaiya, wa Abu Laka bidhanbi faghfirli fainnahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta.”(O (O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and my promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You. The Prophet added. “If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise. ”Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 75 Hadith 318 Let us take time every day to reflect on ourselves and seek Allah’s forgiveness with utmost sincerity and earnestly. May Allah help us stay on the right path, forgive us and help us repent when we falter.Ameen http://hadithoftheday.com/dua-astaghfar/ |

A senior driver with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has cried out that River state Governor,Nyesom Wike, failed to return the 15 Toyota Hilux Trucks he took from the agency for his governorship campaigns while serving as the Minister of state for Education. The driver (name withheld), explained that Wike, the then minister of state, “borrowed” the vehicles promising to return them back to the fleet after the presidential and the governorship campaigns. The driver, however, feared that the 15 vehicles may never make it back to UBEC’s fleet. He said he was particularly angry when he saw on television how Mr. Wike was sending armed state officials out to recover government vehicles from officials who served under his predecessor, whereas “he too failed to return our own vehicles in his possession.”“If you ask the governor he will tell you that he still has the 15 Toyota Hilux vehicles which we were told he borrowed for his governorship campaign. I believe, it is wrong for a political office holder to abuse his office by taking advantage of the government resources in their possession, and using it for politics,” the driver stressed. The driver further lamented that the 15 vehicles taken away from their fleet are affecting the operations of the UBEC because the pick-up trucks are what they use to go to remote rural villages to execute the agency various rural development programs. He appealed to Mr. Wike to show leadership by example by returning thetruck back to UBEC office.Attempts on Wednesday to get the reaction of the River state governor to the allegation proved abortive. http://nationalaccordnewspaper.com/2015/06/abuse-of-office-wike-didnt-return-15-ubec-hilux-vehicles-he-took-for-campaigns-ubec-driver/ |

Ahead of the relocation of President Muhammadu Buhari to the Presidential Villa, arrangements have been concluded for the Nigerian military to take over the activities of the Strike Force,The PUNCHhas learnt. The Strike Force, which is a special security outfit saddled with the responsibility of protecting the President and the seat of power, is currently comprising only officials of the Department of State Services.A top Presidency official, who pleadedanonymity, told our correspondent on Tuesday that soldiers might take overtheir responsibility very soon. The source said a Lieutenant who willbe leading 21 other military personnelhad already been transferred to the Strike Force with an instruction to take over from the DSS officials. He said, “DSS officials are the ones that have been serving in the Strike Force. “With this development military personnel will take over from them henceforth.“We are aware that the situation is causing a palpable tension as there isa possibility of a showdown. But we are working hard to ensure that the situation did not degenerate.”Operatives attached to the Strike Force are always trained abroad on counter-assault and other techniques aimed at making their jobs easier. In explaining their duties, the source said its operatives were the ones former President Olusegun Obasanjo erroneously referred to as snippers in his widely-publicised open letter to former President Goodluck Jonathan.Another official, who is aware of the arrangement, also said that machinery had also been put in place to change the new Presidential Villa’s Administrative Officer, who was deployed by the DSS about two weeksago and replaced with a military officer. He said all DSS officials currently serving inside the Presidential Villa were not sure of their fate yet.“The truth is that we are not sure of anything yet. Whichever way, we will only act based on signals from our headquarters whether to leave or remain inside the Villa,” he said.Meanwhile, a major disagreement broke out on Friday between DSS officials drafted from the Presidential Villa, Abuja to the National Mosque, Abuja and some officials of a private security firm. The PUNCHhad reported last week that DSS officials were having a running battle with officials of the security outfit who were reported to have been securing Buhari before he was inaugurated as the President on May 29.Their two earlier encounters in the same mosque were settled amicably with officials of the firm asked to leave the premises for DSS officials. Our correspondent, however, learnt that trouble started again last Friday when DSS officials also sighted the officials of the private firm in the mosque.A source claimed that trouble started when one of the officials of the firm was asked to identify himself.“The DSS officials had asked the private guard to identify himself. One thing led to the other and the private guard was said to have held the necktie of one of the operatives. That led to a fisticuffs. It took the timely intervention of senior officers for the situation to be brought under control,”the source said.Copyright PUNCH. http://www.punchng.com/news/military-to-take-over-aso-rocks-strike-force/ |

A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola took a loan of over N480bn from various sources since he assumed office in 2010.Omisore said this at a press conference in Ile Ife on Monday.Omisore, who is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state during the August 9, 2014 governorship election, accused Aregbesola of financial recklessness and lack of proper planning.According to him, the loan burden andthe alleged continuous wasteful spending by the governor are some of the reasons the administration has been unable to pay workers for the past seven months. He said the governor also wasted the state’s resources on political campaigns during the last governorship poll and the just concluded general election without minding the consequences of his actions.Omisore said, “The principal debt of Osun State under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is N480bn. They took N300bn loan, by taking N10bn for each of the 30 local government councils.“They first raised N60bn bond and later raised another N40bn bond. They borrowed for O’meal project, borrowed for school uniform project and borrowed for airport project.“They borrowed another N25bn. But the principal debt is N480bn. You will remember that we were saying this before this financial crisis reached this height.“I raised the alarm then that the way Ogbeni Aregbesola was running the affairs of the state, he would soon run it aground. Now it has happened.”Omisore said since Aregbesola said it openly on Friday that the situation into which he drove the state was beyond him, he should resign honourably. While offering suggestions on how theadministration could salvage the situation, he advised that the governor should stop his ostentatiouslife-style and show a sign of remorse. He said, “The governor should sell thehelicopter; the helicopter has two pilots. They spend money on maintenance and so on. He should also stop using chartered aircraft. I am sure this will shock the people to hear that the governor still travels in chartered aircraft despite the financialmess he put the state into.“He should reduce his security votes, reduce the Government House spending and stop giving Osun money to his Lagos visitors. He should bring back our money. The contracts were inflated, especially theroad contract. Gbongan to Akoda, Osogbo to Kwara boundary and the Ring Road were inflated to the tune of N102bn. So, the money to workers is in his pocket. If he can bring just N50bn out from this stolen fund, the workers would smile.”The former chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation and Finance, said that he had been assisting people the way he could without making a noise out of it. He said if he wanted to play politics with the situation, he would station a trailer load of truck at the PDP secretariat and ask people to come and collect foodstuffs. But Aregbesola has debunked the allegations of financial recklessness and also said the debt profile of the state is much lower than the figure Omisore gave. The governor, who responded throughhis media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, in a statement, said Omisore fabricated the N480bn figure to discredit the administration. He said, “Every knowledgeable personin Osun and beyond has the figures of the Osun borrowings by virtue of the open nature of the Aregbesola’s administration. Osun could not have borrowed in secrecy as the two bonds were in the capital market and the Sukuk Bond was taken in celebrated manners.“While we took N14.4bn Sukuk bond in two tranches, the state governmentalso approached the capital market for a N30bn loan.“These are verifiable facts and which are in the public domain. So, what new thing has Mr. Omsiore said other than regurgitating the same old-fashioned, weather-beaten lies that could not help him dislodge Aregbesola in the August 9 governorship election?“If it is not crime for a state government to source for funds for thedevelopment of the state, Omisore needs to tell us why states under the administration of his party, the PDP, are among the debtor states in Nigeria.”The governor said the state owed its workers just as many other states were affected in Nigeria. He however stated that he was working round the clocks to ensure that the workers were paid.He added, “For instance, the Gbongan-Akoda Road; Osogbo-Ila-Odo-Kwara-Boundary Road whichOmisore has fraudulently put at a costof N102bn all together, cost a bit higher than N60bn. While the Gbongan-Akoda-Osogbo Road costs N29.2bn; the Osogbo-Ila-Odo-Kwara Boundary is to gulp N17.8bn while theOba Adesoji Aderemi Second Bye-pass Road will cost N14.5bn.“However, we are not surprised at thiswarped sense of arithmetic. It is this same problem that has robbed him of basic knowledge of banking rules which ought to make Omisore to know that no financial institution could have borrowed a state more than it can earn.” http://www.punchng.com/news/aregbesola-took-n480bn-loan-says-omisore/ |
