I must commend you for this article. You have done your research on National Addressing Systems but you did not do a good research on the recent adoption of what3words by NIPOST. The VP of Nig. heads the council on National Addressing System and a committee comprising of all the stakeholders you mentioned was set up and duly inaugurated to work on it.
I'll suggest you do a thorough research before going public with a seemingly and ostensibly good article but your shortcomings were heavily masked with a dazzling display of technicalities and rhetorics.
What NIPOST did or is doing, is simply spearheading the drive for an addressing system that they could use to enhance their service delivery. NIPOST also adopted what3words to bridge the existing lacuna in the system and by so doing, will acquire a database that could be used by other organizations in the country. NIPOST's recent launch of the what3words is by all intent and purpose, for its own use and not as an adopted National Addressing System.

Register the mail or use EMS courier in NIPOST and demand for proof of delivery - POD

You have not stated the post office where it is to be delivered. In any case, go to the post office and enquire about your package. Don't take any chances like waiting for it to be delivered to ur doorstep.

I took this issue to NIPOST and this is a response by the EMS Manager of NIPOST, Kano.


I am not holding brief for my colleagues that collect illegal fees from our customers, if the allegations are true, but at the' same time, our esteemed customers need to be enlightened. Nigeria is a member country of the UPU (Universal Postal Union), represented by NIPOST, as such, it is guided by the UPU Conventions. Parcel Clearance Fees, Parcel Handling Charges and Customs Duties on dutiable contents of items sent through d post are legitimate fees globally, w/o exception to Nigeria (NIPOST). There is a difference b/w an inland n an overseas parcel, a registered letter, a speed post letter an EMS merchandise and an EMS document/letter, and Small packet. Weight n content are d guides for defining these postal packets. While fees n charges are collected on inbound overseas parcels, EMS Merchandise (foreign), and until recently, Small Packets, no fee or charge is collected on any inbound registered letter or EMS (Document) at the point of collection. Indeed, no domestic postal packet attracts a fee at d point of delivery, except retention fee for registered letters and parcels that have exceeded 30 days from d date of arrival at the office of destination. Our customers also need to know d difference b/w d conventional post and d private couriers. The rules guiding the 2 and our modes of operations (as reflected in d tariffs) are poles apart. These, our customers need to b knowledgeable on. But again, I don't hold brief for my "smart" colleagues, if d allegations by our customers are verifiable, n proved beyond all reasonable doubts.

Use NIPOST anytime,any day. Make sure the address is good ie street and house number that can be located and also include phone number just in case, but make sure u register the letter. It can't cost more than N250 anywhere within Nigeria.
It will take 2 days to get there and on the 3rd day it will be delivered

The salaries of primary school teaches nationwide, is being funded by the three tiers of govt with the Local Govt Councils supervising n doing the actual disbursement of funds. There are issues that lead to delay or non payment of salaries....

Yes, package was intact. It arrived yesterday morning i.e 29/04. Never knew there was a post office at Ijeshatedo surulere. Its not a very busy place anyway. Met a bunch of women gisting the day away, for my mind I was wandering if this is what these people do all day and get paid by month end. I approached the desk and it was like they had been waiting for me to show up, I got my mail within 10 minutes and joined the women in their ramblings about unpaid salaries for another 20 minutes.. It was good one for me cos this is my first time of receiving a mail from the post office and again it took about 15 days from china through nlpost. Paid them 500 naira for official fee, that was what they told me o, I don't know how true that is. I was given a slip to acknowledge that I had received the mail but I don't think it passes as recipt. It wasn't bad for a first time.

The #500 charged is authorised by NIPOST .

I received a package from the Netherlands mid-december last year and noticed the seal was broken and re-sealed. When I queried the NIPOST staffs in Akure here, they claimed it might be the sender.
I called to confirm and was negative. I was disappointed, though everything was intact.
NIPOST staffs should be patriotic and desist from tampering with customers' parcels.

To enlighten you further, Nigerian Custom Service always carry out checks and duty assessment on packages at the ports before they are delivered to the addresses. Sometimes NDLEA check too
