Xavier5:
Truth is, whether they cast entirely new actors or they retain some old actors, the DCU will still have a shaky start, and the media and people will still talk, criticise and throw blames. Why? That's because the DC film brand is weak and unstable, and the solution to that is focusing on building a brand by;

* Creating a progressive and cohesive universe irrespective of the poor performance of the first sets of films or some of them.
* Enormously progressing on the planned saga irrespective of the poor performance of the first sets of films or some of them.

With this, within a space of few years (three to five), the DCU brand will be built due to audience and fanbase interest and faith in the franchise.

So the problem is not the actors (entirely new or not) they choose to go with, but rather the franchise brand. If Gunn wants to go with entirely new actors, fine. If he wants to retain some old actors, fine. But irrespective of the path he wants to take, he and Zaslav should make sure they focus on building a stable DCU brand irrespective of the poor performance of the first set or some of the first set of films. This should be the focus and not if they're going with entirely new actors or not, this won't in any way determine the success of the DCU.

Truth is, the first set or some of the first set of the DCU films will perform poorly whether we like it or not, but it's the resilience and consistency of Zaslav, Gunn and Safran to build a good DCU brand --- by creating a progressive and cohesive universe, and enormously continuing with the planned saga --- that will eventually give the DCU the success it deserves, with or without entirely new actors.

Besides, reboot deals with changing timelines and storylines, not characters and actors. The issue of change of actors and characters is an option, it's a matter of choice, and not standard, or right and wrong.

Your points are buttress clearly, but there is this stigma hovering around particular set of the old casts that aside the rough start that will be there for the first dcu movies people still won't easily let go of using their previous movie(s) to vent their anger if their dcu movie(s) do not meet up expectations.
Going with new casts or bringing in some old casts are entirely two different things. Like said, I would prefer if he runs a clean slate. Make everything new so we don't have that already built mind-set on how this or that cast(s) is played.
Example the new Superman cast, I don't think anyone can confidently say they have idea of his range aside James himself. I need things like that.
Look at Batfleck as a case, people till date still dislike the way he's handled by Josh Whedon and even in the current Flash movie. The comparison is heavy on how those other two directors made Batfleck looked almost like a juvenile as compare to Snyder's take. His acting on those two looked funny I swear...

If Gal is playing Wonder Woman, that's goodnews. She's a good actress that played Wonder Woman well. Having her in the DCU will be amazing.

I'm still trying to figure out where and when reboot equates to not featuring some old actors.

Gunn himself said (that was December last year or January this year, any of them) that in the DCU, some old actors will be retained, some old actors will be shown the door, and new actors will be brought in.

But regarding the validity of this information, I'll wait for confirmation from Gunn himself.

I suggest he should completely reboots everything, not one of the old guys should be kept. Cause I don't want a situation where if any of his movie fails the blame will now be tied to those old guns by saying people still have that bitter taste of dceu. I don't want that, those Snyder's casts have suffered a lots from similar situations once the movies they're in did not meet up expectations...
He should do 100% reboot. Nothing like keeping any old casts.

Nigeria should focus on its problems , We should not get dragged into other people problems . The world is divided between westerners and others .Niger as a country should not and must not be a proxy war between NATO and Russia .

Nigeria as a country should play larger sized role in diplomacy ,we should send Buhari for diplomatic talks and peace deals , War is not at an option for Nigeria at this critical time .

Just like Buhari made Goodluck a peace ambassador , Tinubu should think along the same lines .
Sending Buhari to go preach peace and talk diplomatically...lol
Buhari is just like those typical abokis, they don't think diplomatically when uttering words. Baba go even go put more fire there, trust me....

If Aquaman and Blue Beetle underperforms, James Gunnverse might be shelved. WB needs to start making profit as it is cause I doubt investors would want to invest in coming DC projects.
That's why I am saying James Gunn better quit the media nonsense cause if Zaslav calls the whole thing off, it'll be a big embarrassment for him. He should stay low key, cause as it is, everyone is waiting for I told you so. Superman project is very different from Guardians of the Galaxy and would be closely watched and nitpicked at every turn like MOS and Superman Returns.
Gunn needs to shut up about the project till it's filmed and marked for release.
In all, I keep telling people that to make a very good Superman movie is one of the most difficult tasks (if not the most difficult) to pull off.
It's not about getting the RT score o! Will the movie not be boring like Superman Returns.
Almost every tense scenes involving Clark/Superman will be nitpicked to the core because everyone thinks with his power there will always be another better ways to handle the situations he's in...

Yeah, Lex should be established as a Superman villain in the DCU, but he shouldn't be the villain of the first two Superman films, but the third. With this, they tune down on his over usage while also making him the peak Superman villain, that is, the villain of the climax to a Superman trilogy. The first two films prepare the grounds for his eventual confrontation with Superman.

Exactly! The idea of IPS in order to put up ordinary humans against Superman is just too funny in my eyes...

I really am not against Lex being a Superman film villain but not this early. He can be introduced but as a character not just a baddie. Seriously there's a way you can write Lex without making him redundant. He is now an anti-hero now sef independent of Superman.
They should end this notion of Lex always trying to kill Superman. Yea, he doesn't have to be friends with him but they can be rivals who occasionally will work together. Smallville did this right.
Yeah, but I don't think they will have that luxury of time to be able to flesh out all these because of other characters and it's a movie. Series and tv shows can do those things because the much time they have to build cohesive stories and this is just one of my many reasons while I don't rate tv show/series that high; it's more easier to do a better story in series than just one way movie with 2hrs+.

I hope they don't announce Lex till when the film premiers. It shouldn't look like this is a Lex vs Superman film.
I like this your idea. For me, the ideology of a human being with genius mind rivalling Superman (when Superman too is a genius) is becoming tiring to me.
Lex should just be behind the scene and running things until he probable invents technologies that can make him go toe-to-toe with the man of steel before he surfaces.

The Flash currently sits at 210.9M from $139M opening at the box office, not the ideal for a movie of its calibre, but a far cry from the prophecy of doom all over the net.

$15m for 2nd wk with a heavy fall of 73% and you still think The Flash is going somewhere... No it's not going anywhere cause other movies are taking its seats. No theatre will give much screen time to a movie that can't pull numbers...

Yeah, they shouted back then,

"DCEU is too dark and broody",
"The colour palette is too bland"
"Comic book movies should not be serious"

Today, we have DC movies being opposites of these and yet nobody is watching these "marvel-like" movies again. Lol...
I'm telling you!
In fact those set of fans and WB actually killed the DCEU franchise and not what they often think.
Once any of their dceu/dc movies failed to do good numbers they systematically turned their guns towards Snyder and his dc movies fans and put all the blames on them..very bad. Somebody who has no creative control over what WB and their directors do keep still receiving stray bullets every time they fumble, but whenever it looks good (by RT score) they want to take all the glory and start telling us that that's how movies should be made, very funny.
I can boldly say here that James Gunn wasn't hired because of his prowess, but because he has worked for MCU.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by SMUAG(m):

Aquaman is a fun and enjoyable movie. If at all anything, it's DCEU first MCU type of film.

You peeps always have a funny way of including Aquaman in DCEU success movies because of its billion dollar gross and kick out the less successful ones. Everyone knows its easily an MCU flick, some people not deep in comic book stuff even confuse it to Marvel.
Was Suicide Squad too not having the MCU vibes. My point is not even close to the billion it made, but the fact that the first 5 to 6 dceu movies have more of a connection also contributed great help to its success. Even if BvS did not make the money we all thought it will, it was still the BvS that connected and gave birth to Aquaman movie.
Like for me, aside the connection I was mostly eager to see it because that was the first time we will be seeing a movie that would be like 95% underwater likewise many people too...
But is it just a coincidence that these (6) movies are still the most highest grossing DCEU movies till date, and the only 2 movies outside the DCEU that can actually fall into that category did not even follow anything related to the MCU.
10yrs later still non of the dceu mcu-wannabe movies can actually do better by out selling MoS that we all called below average movie and was also very divisive...

My take is, the biggest mistake was trying to make the DCEU an else world MCU.

I've never seen anything like this before, even for other DCEU films that flopped

The Flash is pacing to drop over 75% in it's second weekend. It would be the worst second weekend drop for a cbm ever.
From the day I saw it I knew it will tank heavily but few of us thought it was the haters that were spreading negative words of mouth...
It's somehow crazy that the first three movies that were heavily criticise and few (like WW and Aquaman) that tied to those movies were the ones that actually did better throughout the DCEU period, while the fun and enjoyable movies are the ones struggling to even get to their BEP. Very funny...
Herculean task for Gunn now...

Did you take note of the word "each" in my statement?

Production budget: maximum $200M
Marketing budget: maximum $200M
BEP (total cost which equates to the amount needed to be profitable): maximum $400M.

Do you understand now?

James Gunn as the central guy is more reasons why he should be actively involve in the media promotion. He has a large social media platform, such should be harnessed.

You shouldn't be bothered about him being active in the promotion, rather you should be bothered about him making reveals and controversial statements regarding the film during promotion.

There's no where it is a law that reveals and controversial statements regarding a film has to be made during a film's promotion.

Gunn should be active in the film's promotion without making any reveals and controversial statements regarding the film in the course of the promotion.
Promote the film, leave spoilers, reveals of test screenings reports to the public, comparisons, unnecessary hype and controversial statements out of it.

#Xavier
#DCian
This is actually what Gunn is partially known for. He's good at making controversial statements and that's my point of him to keep quiet, not necessarily he shouldn't go on promoting the new DCU movies..

Bro, pegging $400m as BEP as a results of production and marketing cost is not for movie that want to minimise cost o... That budget is for blockbuster movies..
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by SMUAG(m): 12:27pm On Jun 23, 2023
Xavier5:
I agree with some of this, but not all.

First of all, everything starts with cost minimization. Their production and marketing costs should be inexcessive. As a matter of fact, the production and marketing budget, giving the kind of film it is, should be a maximum of $200M each, which gives us a maximum BEP of $400M, anything more than that will be profits (gross).

I agree with your trailer and TV spots strategies, but I don't agree with your staying off media and non test screenings ideas.

Media hype is vital, and staying off won't give the needed hype. You can't rely on the fanbase and media, considering their indifference and bias towards the brand.
WBD, Gunn, Safran and the cast should harness their respective social media and YouTube platforms, and selected media influencers (who must be DC fans) to promote the film. In addition to that, there should be a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT by the cast, crews and executives not to reveal or hint any detail/ spoiler of the film in the course of promotions.

Test screenings is also very vital due to its feedbacks on the film's quality. Test screenings should be done but;
* It must involve only selected DC fans, not critics, industry analysts, celebrities or media influencers.
* Test screenings should only occur a maximum of three times.
* Reports and feedbacks of the test screenings shouldn't be made public but only to WBD/ DC.
* The selected DC fans involved in the test screenings should be made to sign a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT in other not to breathe a word to the public.
* Reports and feedbacks from the test screenings should be used to effect necessary changes in the film.

This should also be applied to all DCU movies and series, be it big, medium or small movies and series.

I think with this, the movie will be done and marketed properly without excessive cost which in turn amounts to lower BEP and high chance of commercial performance and profitablity.
My question is; can they do Superman movie plus marketing with just $200m? I don't think it will ever be possible except they want to do exactly what CW Superman and Lois is doing - just pad the whole thing with family dramas and keep padding it with more dramas. Superman movies are practical and vfx heavy. So I don't think it's possible to use $200m for both production and marketing/promotion of Superman or similar Superheroes movies. Even Superman: The Movie that was released more than 40yrs back carried a production budget of $55m.
Just like what Minemrys said James Gunn should at least keep quiet and not trying to divide the already divided fan base by always wanting to make statement likes he understands this character better and often thinks some other versions are not true to their characters. Just like when the Smallville Lex guy (in his podcast) made a jab at BvS Lex and immediately tried to play smart of not knowing if any of such version existed but James Gunn himself quickly affirmed to his point that there is/was.
A centre figure should know when not to say anything, because you're definitely on that same seat now.

Why are we still making this thing look like "us vs them" thing.
Is it possible for the lovers to allow the haters to be the first to see a movie they claimed they truly loved (not possible na).

Xavier5:
So after all the noise of The Flash bombing, it still ended with a $139M opening weekend.

For the "that's too poor" crew, understand that big openings does not equate to commercial success of a film but its ability to perform well over the coming weeks. Never forget BvS, Shazam, JL, MoS etc

BvS had opening weekend of over $400M; Shazam, $150M; JL, over $200M; MoS, over $150M. How did they perform eventually?

To me,The Flash opening is okay, but let's see how well it can go in the coming weeks.

And so you know, The Flash supposed competitor, Elemental, had an opening weekend of $48M. It seems it's an Industry thing now, not just Comic book films or "The Flash."

Bro, we should face the reality the competition is very tough and blockbuster movies are still lining up to be released, no room for The Flash to have a long leg when the words of mouth are not great. Not just even The Flash alone, check out most of the movies released (for the past a month and half) they are finding it extremely difficult to perform well, e.g The Little Mermaid (of all movie) is heavily struggling to do well.
My concern is with the execs and not even with the director. They must have seen the movie before anyone and knows a cgi of that standard For me is not acceptable in this modern days to give us such poor cgi, yet they gave the go ahead to release it, even with the heavy competition this period.
We can try to play the "my own na my own" game, but the cgi I saw is beyond defendable... Even one of the Superman cameo that they could've used the original actor in the scene and probably used a de-age technology to work the remaining out, but no they rather went all out to give use a ps4 (not even ps5) graphics.

Even if I'm never a fan of James Gunn, I think his reboot (for now) serves as the best option since the DCEU I came to know and loved have been bastardised by mostly the fanbase that feels all cbm need to be lighthearted and fun..

Is it that the company name "Warner Bros" are under spell of never to put their act together even if new execs are brought in... How the hell did they allow such movie with a very bad cgi to be released at this time where the competition is so strong that if your movie is not very solid it will be sandwiched like what is going on with almost all the movies released for the past 1 month.. Why can't they just push The Flash up until they get their vfx team to do a perfect work first.
Aside the cgi, The Flash is a pure mess for me... Like I keep complaining we must not always want to make movie with the intention of "movie must be fun", that notion always take the stake of seriousness away and for me I hate that.
For example like the General Zod's first appearance to the world warning all to disclose the true identity of Kal El or face the consequences. That of The Flash looked like a very big child's play... In Man of Steel you can really feel the tension everywhere, but in The Flash everybody was just going about doing their things without even showing any concern. The G. Zod world engines were just being televised on their stations throughout the end of the 2nd act to the final act like they are up there for tourists to video and snap...
The Flash is 5/10 for me.
