Yea, only problem is Watchmen wasn't released as a hybrid streaming platform. The DC label was pretty much still strong then so far the movie was good. That decade was the start of the turning point of CBMs. We had Iron Man and The Dark Knight(1st comic book billion $ grosser) the previous year. Also forgot to add that movies had very long theatrical lifespan then. A movie could show in theatres for over 6 months then. That's impossible right now.
The calamity that was Suicide Squad in 2016 definitely also had a role in audiences perception.
