Once upon a time, bandits laid ambush to their victims and robbed with machetes, knives and other sharp weapons.
Some years later this turned to locally made guns, rifles.
Later on we have AK47, and other assault rifles.
Now they attack with BOMBS and other explosive devices.

What do the future hold? Wont be surprised if armed robbers attack with helicopter gunships, air to surface missiles and fighter aircraft.

I posted what I read  undecided undecided  How am I to know if Nigerian papers are rubbish. BTW I only ever actively read Daily times, NewsWatch, Guardian, Tribune and Vanguard. Educate me on the rest please !!

Take a deep breath and calm down , you are getting too hyped up.  grin
Its not rocket science to infer that this is one piece of dog poo. It is a no brainer. This is a lesson to all posters on here. There seem to be this craze to be the "breaker of breaking news". People should think twice before pasting any questionable story. If in doubt do your own investigation either by verifying from friends/family back home or doing more research on the internet.

There is no cash prize for being the first to report stories on NL.

The advice goes to the mods. as well. Common, its one thing to keep the thread running but a completely different ball game to make it front page. Goodness!!!

If i were you i would hide my head in shame and keep silent for whats left of the thread. you sit in your living room in the uk or whereever, lift rubbish from some half baked news paper site and post it here as fact.
i wonder who is the person that made this front page.

but to answer your question, yes i am the "man around town". i had the esteemed opportunity of first hand experience of the situation in benin since the strike. and yes i mean FIRST HAND, and not junk from the papers.

@ teaf

truth hurts abi cheesy

so far we have established the following about you;

1. signs and symptoms of a delusional paranoid schizophrenic

2. PDP trashy mouth piece on NL, as there have been incontrovertible evidence that you are on the payroll of the PDP

3. cursed with blood money. you dont care about the source of your funding from the PDP as long as you get paid. The source sadly is there for you to see; in the morgues of state hospitals and corpse from road traffic accidents daily due to abandoned road projects

4. a crooked deceitful comedian who uses multiple IDs on Nairaland to debate and argue. I am awaiting on of the many teafs to come on this thread shortly and starts defending your corner cheesy

LEXYLOV:

400 hundreds cows is a lot shocked How many days it too them to slaughter those bulls? means 100 per each day are slaughter? where are those bulls from in that large # shocked shocked shocked I wonder if that figure is correct. Either way that's is bad.

The alleged assault was supposed to have taken place on Monday the 9th of January, which is the only day hoodlums went on rampage in Benin since the subsidy protest. On Monday the protest started about 9am and ended around 2pm, when the police and army started taking charge of the unrest.

That means the hoodlums numbering less than 50 within a 5 hour spell ransacked the local bureau de change fighting off over a 100 "abokis", damaged the central mosque and killed 400 cows. Mind you, these events are located in about a 15 mile radius!! Haba!! Nigerian journalist. smh
Politics / Re: Hoodlums Kill 400 Cows During Protest In Edo by snowdrops(m): 1:10pm On Jan 15, 2012
How does BLOOD MONEY taste?

Do you know that bribe you accepted from the PDP would have gone a long way to pay salaries for nurses, civil servants, build roads, schools, markets. Your account swelled quite alright but hundreds of innocent children have paid with their lives because they have been denied needed healthcare, security etc.

SHAME SHAME SHAME. If i were you i would slit my wrist thereby putting an end to a pathetic existence. Perfect remedy in your situation.

You have lost credibility in here. Not even your numerous false usernames can save you.  grin You come here arguing with your self and others with fake profiles. You really are a desperate soul just so you can appease your paymasters.

Politics / Re: Hoodlums Kill 400 Cows During Protest In Edo by snowdrops(m): 12:43pm On Jan 15, 2012
@ OP

The story is complete BULL. I have been in Benin for days; no such act happened. Hoodlums from a particular sect attacked a local bureau de change and caused moderate damage to property and limited injuries. The idiots were thieves and driven by the urge to steal money. No way were 400 cows stolen.

The media have reported so many false stories these past days. They claimed earlier that 4 mosques were burnt in Benin which turned out to be false. Another story was that 4 persons were killed by soldiers of hausa extraction in Benin which was also nonsense.

So guys take such with the slightest pinch of salt especially from the largely Lagos based media.

Travel / Re: I Am A Fresh Graduate Of Medicine And Surgery, which Country Should I Migrate To? by snowdrops(m): 12:19pm On Jan 14, 2012
Post graduate medical education is somewhat different from the mainstream sector. A good number of doctors want to commence their residency training in their chosen specialties after graduation and internship. Very few would opt for an acedemic masters as an only option. This happens whether in naija or overseas.

A good number of doctors are yearning to leave the country for various reasons. It is not only economics. It is sad, a brain drain, but it is the fact on ground. OP is not exempted from this trend.

I am not too conversant with US immigration. However given OPs circumstances, the easiest way to immigrate to yankee is as a visitor. Remember he is a highly skilled migrant and chances are with good immigration advice in the country he would remain there.
Travel / Re: I Am A Fresh Graduate Of Medicine And Surgery, which Country Should I Migrate To? by snowdrops(m): 5:12am On Jan 14, 2012
Apply for a visit visa. While there get a good immigration solicitor with a view to getting into the right category, that way you can prolong your stay. Meanwhile as soon as you arrive the country start gathering materials for USMLE as start reading well well. cheesy
You would need to score high in order to stand a reasonable chance of being selected.

Canada is potentially an egg shell. Even after the conversion exams you would need to compete with thousands of other foreign doctors for limited residency slots. That has left soooooo many docs frustrated.
If you need to go to the americas, best place is the US. And should it be Europe, UK a better option. However with recent immigration changes, it is almost impossible to get a residency slot on a work permit in the UK, unless you have British citizenship/Permanent residency.
I know little of Australia/New Zealand. For a newbie, expect to be posted to the deserts/economically deprived areas should you be accepted into the system.
Therefore, i believe USA remains a juicy option for a new grad from naija.

Politics / Re: Benin On Fire! Mosque Burnt, Tear Gas απϑ Fighting Going On Right Now! by snowdrops(m): 5:26pm On Jan 10, 2012
You are welcome.

Most people who besiege this forum which all sorts of scary headlines do not reside in Benin. They monger rumours and half truths. This is not only sad but dangerous. At this time when the nation is on a knife edge, what we certainly do not want is such nasty stories.

It remain unconfirmed if indeed a northerner was killed yesterday in Benin.
I went past the allegedly burnt down mosque several times today. It has little sign of fire damage. If anything it was vandalised by hoodlums. But as soon as security personel came into the picture, peace was restored ASAP.
It is yet to be ascertained if a soldier killed any person today. I was around that part of the city when the incident was said to have happened.

People should calm down. Report facts, not rumours. The facts are;

There is massive presence of soldiers and police at strategic locations in Benin
Some hausas are being placed temporarily in police and soldier baracks for their own safety
Few have left Benin althogether for fear of being assaulted
About a third of shops re-opened for business today and same number of motorists on the road
The city remains tense, not only due to above, but also due to an ongoing cult clash and reprisal killings.
Travel / Re: I Am A Fresh Graduate Of Medicine And Surgery, which Country Should I Migrate To? by snowdrops(m): 5:09pm On Jan 10, 2012
It would be pertinent if you provide answers to these questions;

1. Why do you want to travel?
2. Which specialty would you want to practice should you go overseas?
3. How long would you want to live abroad?
4. your age, marital status.

Going overseas as a newbie could be quite challenging. Could take a while to settle into the system. You may have to write several exams, and get onto the right immigration status. You may not get the specialty you always wanted.

Not to drag the issue, popular travel destination for naija doctors include usa, uk, ireland, south africa and the carribeans. Goodluck

Guys stop these inflammatory posts. Things are not that bad in benin. There is more vehicular traffic today compared to yesterday. I drove round town today and encountered no protest. There are numerous police patrols.
Tensions remain in the air quite alright. The hausas understandably are scared. The pockets of violence yesterday was perpetuated by some miscreants from the ghetto, looking to cease on the chaos.
Most people are peace loving, and absolutely condemn the violence.

Against this backdrop you MUST use the information you gave when you last applied. They will almost certainly find out if you claim to be anybody else. Why take the chance? It's not worth it. Consider what you stand to lose.

Like I said earlier, getting a good solicitor to package this application would be a good start. I may cost may cost money but thats no news. I guess like you said others need to voice their opinion.
Travel / Re: Help.! I Need Your Advice: by snowdrops(m): 8:48am On Jan 03, 2012
I suggested the first identity because it looks like that is your real name and age. That means that is what appears in your documents and certificates. Would you really want to live your life being someone else?

Besides did you supply your electronic finger prints and eye scan with the initial application?
Travel / Re: Help.! I Need Your Advice: by snowdrops(m): 4:55am On Jan 03, 2012
I understand your dilemma. You feel on the edge of a significant breakthrough in life but whatever you decide is like damned if you do or don't. If the original refusal did not attract a period of ban I don't see why you can't reapply using your initial identity. Could ask your fiancée to use the services of an immigration solicitor in thaUS.

End of day honesty remains best policy. Could have spared yourself all the headache by being truthful ab initio.
