PoliticsTo Set The Records Straight! Stop Stereotyping by snowwhyte607(op): 10:02pm On Jul 13, 2021
IGBOS PLEASE STOP THIS.

You are merely turning a human problem into an Igbo problem as most Nigerians love to do:

"Igbos don't love themselves."
"Igbos can't speak with one voice."
"Igbos are their own enemies."
"Igbos put their eggs in one basket."
"Igbos are too emotional."

Sadly, Igbos have been blackmailed with these expressions since losing the War that many have even accepted them as true.

In 1999 Jim Nwobodo contested the PDP primaries with Ekwueme and got a few votes. It is still being used to taunt Igbos that they work against one another and hate one another. Meanwhile since independence till today other ethnic groups have done worse than that.

In 1983, Tunji Braithwaite contested against Awo, while Aminu Kano and Waziri Ibrahim contested against Shagari. No Igbo man contested against Zik.

In 2007 Buhari contested against Yar'Adua his fellow Fulani from same state. He refused to attend the National Council of State meetings under Yar'Adua. He asked that Yar'Adua be impeached when he was sick. Atiku, another Fulani man, was also in that contest against Yar'Adua. None of them stepped down for the other. It was not an issue.

Buhari, Kwankwaso, and Ribadu all contested against Jonathan in 2011. None of them stepped down for one of them to challenge Jonathan. They all lost consequently.
Please in which ethnic group don't you see people betray one another or disagree with one another? Who were the biggest opponents of Jonathan? Were they not South south people led by Rotimi Amaechi, John Oyegun, Adams Oshiomhole, etc?

El-Rufai was the fiercest opponent of Yar'Adua. Same Fulani. He had to go on exile until Yar'Adua died. Nuhu Ribadu was haunted by Yar'Adua until he went into exile. He came back under Jonathan.

Bola Ige and Falae contested the AD ticket in 1999. Falae was chosen. Bola Ige got so angry that he virtually left AD and Adenifere and teamed up with Obasanjo. Meanwhile Falae contested against Obasanjo, lost, went to court, lost too, but never forgave Obasanjo for that.

Who were the people who worked most against Abiola's mandate? From Obasanjo to Shonekan to Alaafin to Arisekola Alao to Oladipo Diya to Abimbola Davies etc?

So where is the truth in this constant attempt to portray Igbos as peculiar in negativity?

You may not even be aware that this narrative you help in spreading is caused by Igbophobia. Most people don't even know that they engage in Igbophobia unconsciously.

It is the same way Jews were demonised in Europe for centuries until the Holocaust occurred.

The Jews were all over Europe like the Igbos are all over Nigeria doing business. They were seen as overbearing on the people and labelled as the cause of everything wrong in Europe. Shakespeare created the Shylock character for them. Martin Luther asked that they all be killed. after holocaust, Israel replanted and today, while surrounded by enemies, they stand tall.

They are like a Dot in middle east but their value which came from their focus on internal development and mastering everything as well as intelligence, manufacturing etc, is high enough that USA and Europe have to pally them and dare not ignore them

Igbos have fought a war and lost. So it is easy to create stories about them to show them that they are peculiar.

Please emancipate yourself from this. There is nothing peculiarly wrong with the Igbos or Yorubas or Edos, etc. What happens among them is simple human nature.

FÁJUYÌ AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE YORÙBÁ AND THE IGBO

First published in my column, #TheAlternative, in today’s ThisDay.

In my column last week, I published a piece, titled ‘Destroying Age Old Myths About The Yoruba’, in which I described the heroic sacrifice made by Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi as apocryphal.

Apocryphal simply means a historical event that cannot be proven.

I was referring to the refusal by Colonel Fajuyi to abandon the then Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, choosing instead to be loyal to him until death, even though he was given the option to remain behind at the Military Governor’s residence, which would have spared his life.

I have since discovered that I was wrong, and I apologise to the family of the late great Colonel Fajuyi. The account of his death is not apocryphal. There were witnesses and I have since verified the authenticity of the account of his death from an eyewitness and another remote witness.

The events were confirmed by a former minister, who also happened to be a soldier in the Nigerian Army when that incident happened. He was there and saw it and confirmed it.

Also, a former President, who was himself involved in pulling Nigeria away from the brink confirmed it.

Colonel Fajuyi pleaded for the life of his guest, Major General Ironsi, and when his pleadings fell on deaf ears, he insisted that if Ironsi would be killed then it would be over his dead body.

The rest is too gruesome to recount here, and out of respect for his family, I will stop here.

Colonel Fajuyi was a hero like no other. The only person who has shown a similar loyalty in Nigeria’s history is former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was the best friend of Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, and who stood by his friend, in life and death.

After Nzeogwu’s death (the circumstances of his death are still hazy and shrouded in controversy) at the age of 30 on July 29, 1967, his friend, Olusegun Obasanjo, cared for his family, and assisted his siblings with their education, and became like a son to his mother.

(Let me here note that Nzeogwu’s death was spiritual, and dare I say mystical, because it occurred on the first anniversary of the July 29, 1966 Northern counter coup. Why is this significant? It is significant because on that day, Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi was killed as a direct result of Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna’s actions of January 15, 1966. Ifeajuna himself would later be executed in Biafra on September 25, 1967. If you attended primary school in Nigeria between 1960 and 1990, you may perhaps have used an exercise book known as the OLYMPIC 2B Exercise Book. The man who was drawn on the front cover of that exercise book is Emmanuel Ifeajuna. The drawing is of his Gold winning High Jump at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, in Vancouver, Canada).

At great risk to his political future, Chief Obasanjo wrote a biography of his late friend simply titled, Nzeogwu, which was published in 1987.

That book caused an uproar in the North because of the way and manner Obasanjo eulogised the man who killed the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello, believed to be Northern Nigeria’s greatest and favourite son.

Obasanjo did not have to do it. None of Nzeogwu’s military colleagues from Eastern Nigeria did it. But he did. And in the preamble to the book, he admitted that he knew he was attracting enmity to himself, but that he would take it as the price he had to pay for honouring his late friend’s memory.

As a matter of fact, thousands of copies of the book were bought by Northern groups and taken to the University of Zaria (now known as the Ahmadu Bello University), where they were burned in a ceremony eerily reminiscent of the Nazi Book Burnings organised by Josef Goebbels.

As they were burning the books, the mixed group of students, faculty members and clerics were insulting Obasanjo, calling him in English and Hausa “arne”, ''traitor'', ''conspirator'' and ''ungrateful person''.

The anger and indignation caused by the book was so widespread. There were riots, and the Niger State Government (the then military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, a great admirer of Ahmadu Bello was from Niger state), revoked the Certificate of Occupancy to a 5,000-hectare piece of land that had previously been allocated to Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited.

The furore caused by the event made the book an Instant bestseller, and I read it as a thirteen year old boy. It attracted the foreign press, and the New York Times did a special feature on the troubles caused by the book in a piece entitled ‘Of Fig Leaves, Art and Other Disputes; Nigeria: Strife Stirred By Best Seller’.

That New York Times piece is still available online. I urge my readers to read it.

It was speculated that Obasanjo’s political career was over, because of his book on Nzeogwu. Some even went as far as saying that he lost the race to be the Secretary General of the United Nations to Boutros Boutros-Ghali of Egypt in 1992, because the Babangida administration was not really keen on his candidature for what they felt was his stab on the back of the North with the book, Nzeogwu.

Babangida may not personally have retained his bitterness five years after the book. However, there were elements in the North that nursed their bitterness up until then, and even beyond. Some still nurse that grudge to today.

So, it riles me when some persons accuse the Yorubas of being betrayers. Which person, living or dead, has shown as much love, loyalty and commitment to Nzeogwu, at such great personal cost to himself, as Obasanjo?

It is one thing to show loyalty to the living. At least, you can expect your loyalty to be rewarded. However, to show loyalty to the dead is almost unheard of. It is most chivalrous and altruistic, precisely because it cannot be rewarded. It is a virtue worth commending and emulating.

Obasanjo again displayed this trait, when he showed his loyalty to his late friend, Shehu Musa Yar’adua, by almost singlehandedly making his younger brother, Umaru Musa Yar’adua, his successor.

Umaru Musa Yar’adua, had already concluded plans to retire to a tertiary institution as a chemistry teacher, when Obasanjo plucked him out almost from obscurity. He did not have the clout, finances, or alpha personality required to dominate the political landscape of 2007. As a matter of fact, Obasanjo campaigned for him in more states than he himself campaigned.

Many people do not know this, but Obasanjo appointed Nzeogwu’s brother as one of his Special Assistants when he returned as Nigeria’s elected President in 1999. He also appointed the son of another January 15, 1966 coup plotter as his Special Assistant (I am honour bound not to mention the name of his father).

Not done, Obasanjo then appointed Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, the son of the late Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, as Minister of Defence in 2006. That was one of the most difficult ministerial appointments in Nigeria’s history, because certain persons felt it was an insult to their injury. And that, perhaps, was why Obasanjo only appointed him as minister in his second term. If he did it in his first term, he might not have won a second term.

Before then, Obasanjo made him an Ambassador. Can you imagine the flak Obasanjo got from the North? Obasanjo did not have to do it.

As a matter of fact, Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi was actually another eyewitness to the events of July 29, 1966. He was with his father at Colonel Fajuyi’s residence. He was hidden for his safety, but he knows what happened. And he is still alive today.

After Fajuyi was killed, his successor as Military Governor of the Western Region, Adeyinka Adebayo, became almost like a surrogate father to the late Aguiyi-Ironsi’s daughter, Louisa Aguiyi-Ironsi, who grew up partly with his own children.

Young people of Southeastern origin should not think that the Yoruba are their enemies, or that they are perpetual cowards, ‘sabo’, and betrayers. It is not true.

The only way we can ensure a level playing ground for all Nigerians is by having a common Southern front. When we have Southern solidarity, then we will have Southern equality with the North.

However, if you believe that the Yoruba cannot be trusted, Bendel people are cunning, Rivers people are backstabbers, and Akwa-Ibom and Cross River are ‘ete’ boy boy, then we will only have Southern disunity.

This is 2021. The son of a Black African Kenyan man is the most popular US President that ever lived according to a survey of mostly White people. His wife, the great granddaughter of slaves, is today the most admired woman in America, and possibly the world. A Nigerian is in the Biden cabinet, and seven Nigerians were recently elected or re-elected into the British Parliament.

Primordial thinking is dying out internationally. We cannot be the holdout in Nigeria. We should not be.

It is time to purge ourselves off primordial sentiments. Nigeria is in too bad a state for us not to realise our predicament and face our common challenges.

And even if we cannot be friends, let us at least be comrades. We have a common challenge with the nepotism of the Buhari administration. What we need in 2023 is a government headed by a Nigerian from any part of Nigeria (but preferably an Igbo person, not for primordial reasons, but to right historical injustices) who can treat all Nigerians equally.

And we are not going to get that if we call each other ‘ajeokutamamomi’ or ‘ewu Yoruba’. The cabal that believe in nepotism are watching us and laughing. Their divide and rule tactics are working.

And lastly on this issue, when I posted last week’s column on Facebook, a young man from the Southeast justified the stereotype of the Yoruba as betrayers, by alleging that they had usurped the houses of Igbos as abandoned property after the civil war.

The truth about that sensitive subject is that cases of ‘abandoned property’ was an issue that erupted amongst the ethnic nationalities that were themselves consanguineously linked to the Igbos in and around Port Harcourt and in around the Benue area (less prominent in the Benue area, and more prominent in the Rivers area).

In Lagos, as well as the entire Western region, property belonging to the Igbos were not seized by the Yoruba. Not at all.
As a matter of fact, not only were the Igbo able to reclaim their houses in the Western Region after the war, they were also able to claim back rent for the period between 1967-1970.

An example of this is the case between the late Alex Ekwueme and Otunba Subomi Balogun. Although they were not really friends, per se, they lived close to each other. Just before the outbreak of the civil war, Alex Ekwueme left Lagos for the Eastern Region, like most prudent Igbos.

After the war, he returned to Lagos and, surprisingly, met his house in a renovated condition. While he was wondering what happened, his neighbour, Mr. Subomi Balogun, approached him and gave him his back rent in cash. These were the words that Mr. Balogun spoke to Mr. Ekwueme on that day in 1970:

“I renovated your house, rented it out and this is the rent we collected.”

Otunba Balogun is still alive, as are the children of Alex Ekwueme. This account can be confirmed from eyewitnesses.

What we need at this point in time is mutual respect and keeping our eyes on the prize.

Which is why I am a bit peeved that some Southern state Governors did not attend the Southern Governors meeting which held in Lagos on Monday, July 5, 2021. All the Governors of the Southwest attended. Apart from the Governor of Enugu, no Southeastern Governor attended. They were represented. One of them did not even bother to send a representative.

The Governor of Cross River (who always looks like someone about to cry), did not even bother with the meeting.

This is not the time to be represented. This is the time to be present! Only Southern unity can bring about the emancipation of our people from the killer herdsmen and bandits now plaguing our land. If we do not hang together, we will all hang separately.

Southern Governors should read and memorise Genesis 11:6:

“The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them.”

If possible, let that be their motto.

Christianity EtcScriptural Facts About Tithing! by snowwhyte607(op): 12:03am On Mar 10, 2021
Scriptural Facts About Tithes

* Tithes are to be paid by only Jews and only to Levitical priests, because Levites were given no land-Numbers 18:20-21
* You are allowed to use your tithes to buy alcohol for consumption-Deuteronomy 14:24-27
* Gentile Christians were given 4 laws. Tithing was not one of them Acts 15:19-20
* Don’t just read Malachi 3:8-10. Read the whole chapter. God is speaking to only the Jews about agricultural tithes, because Levites are not allowed to own land and farm, and they needed agricultural products for the various Temple sacrifices and for their feeding.
* The disciples and the early Christians never collected tithes. They took free will offerings-Acts 2:44-45
* Abraham did not tithe from his income. He tithed from military plunder, also called spoils of war-Hebrews 7:4
* Not one person in the New Testament is recorded as paying tithes
* If a pastor justifies tithing using the Old Testament, ask him or her why they do not also justify polygamy since the Old Testament allows it-2 Samuel 12:8, or slavery-Deuteronomy 20:11, or other extreme forms of punishment for sexual offences-Leviticus 20:13?
* Exodus 20:8-11 says we should keep the Sabbath. Exodus 31:16 says this is an “everlasting” covenant. Why do these churches and pastors insist on tithes, but not on keeping the Sabbath? The Sabbath is kept from the evening of Friday to the evening of Saturday.
* When you give Scriptural references to counter these tithe enthusiasts, they quickly bring in philosophical arguments or cite the Holy Spirit. But, according to 2 Peter 1:20-21, the Holy Spirit will not tell you something contrary to Scripture

Stop saying ‘this matter of tithes is so confusing’. It is not. It is very straightforward and plain. What is confusing are the sleek arguments that your pastors use on you. Forget about arguments. Both mine and your pastors. Open Scripture for yourself. You will see how easy to understand God’s Word is when you don’t go through pastors to reach God.

PoliticsThe Famous Chinese Advice To People Who Have Attained 50 Years And Above by snowwhyte607(op): 10:31am On Mar 04, 2021
CHINESE ADVICE TO 50-YEARS OLD and OLDER.

Because none of us has many years to live, and we can't take along anything when we go.... we don't have to be too thrifty.
Spend the money that should be spent, enjoy what should be enjoyed, donate what you are able to donate, but don't leave all of your hard earned wealth to your children or grandchildren, for you don't want them to become parasites who are waiting for the day you will die!!

DON'T WORRY about what will happen after you are gone, because when you return to dust, you will feel nothing about, social praises, acceptances or criticisms. The time to enjoy the worldly life and your hard earned wealth will be over and soon like all other famous and non-famous beings NOBODY will be bothered about you!

DON'T WORRY too much about your children, for children will have their own destiny and should find their own way. Don't be your children's slave. Care for them, love them, give them gifts but also enjoy your money while you can. Life should have more to it than working from the cradle to the grave!!

DON'T EXPECT too much from your children. Ask yourself how much you care about your own parents... Caring children, though caring, would be busy with their jobs and commitments to render only OCCASIONAL help.

Uncaring children may fight over your assets even when you are still alive, and wish for your early demise so they can inherit your properties and wealth.

Your children take for granted that they are rightful heirs to your wealth; but that you have ABSOLUTELY NO claims to their money.

50-year olds, don't trade-in your health for wealth, by working yourself to an early grave anymore. Because your money may not be able to buy your health.

When to stop making money, and how much MONEY IS enough ?
A hundred, thousand, One million, ten million, one billion... ?
Out of thousands of hectares of good farm land, you can consume only 1/4 kg of rice daily.... ; out of 10 mansions, you only need 8 square meters of space to rest at night.

So, as long as you have enough food and enough money to spend, that is good enough. You should live happily. Every family has its own problems.

Just DO NOT COMPARE with others for fame and social status and see whose children are doing better etc., but challenge others for happiness, health, enjoyment, quality of life and longevity.
DON'T WORRY about things that you can't change... age, height, weight, colour..... because it doesn't help and it will DEFINITELY spoil your health to an early GRAVE. .

You have to create your own well-being and find your own place of happiness.
As long as you are in good mood and good health, think about happy things, do happy things daily and have fun in doing these things... then you will pass your time happily every day.

IF One day passes WITHOUT happiness, you will lose one day.
IF One day passes WITH happiness, then you WILL gain an additional one day.

In good spirit, sickness will be cured;
In a happy spirit, sickness will be cured faster; in high and happy spirits, sickness will never come to you.

With good mood and suitable amount of exercise, always out in the sun, eating a variety of foods, reasonable amounts of vitamins and minerals intake, hopefully you will live another additional 20 to 30 years of a healthy life of fun and pleasure.
- ABOVE ALL -
Learn to cherish the goodness around you.. and the good FRIENDS you have...... They all make you feel young and "wanted"... without them you will surely feel lost!!!!
Wishing you all the best for the years to come.

Please share this with all your friends who are 50 plus and those who will be 50 plus after some time and also with your children.

Now, this is front page worthy, in order to educate those ignorant of the US Electoral College system of voting!
Foreign AffairsThe US Electoral College Explained In Details! by snowwhyte607(op): 5:57pm On Jan 20, 2021
*WHAT DOES ELECTORAL COLLEGE MEAN*

The USA was founded by a union of 13 countries; these surrendered their sovereignty and became States within the USA. That is the reason that the flag of the USA has 13 horizontal stripes.

In the course of its long history, other countries applied and were allowed to join the union. Today, the USA has 50 states. That is the reason that the flag of the USA has 50 stars.

From the beginning, the small States like Delaware, Vermont, New Hampshire were afraid of being dominated by the large states like New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Virginia. They designed a constitution where there would be two chambers for legislation.

The legislature of the USA is called Congress. Congress comprises the Senate and the House of Representatives. The two chambers are co-equal. No bill _(proposed law)_ becomes an act _(law of the country)_ until it is approved by the majority of each legislative chamber. Neither chamber can override the other. Because the Senate is called the Upper Chamber while the House of Reps is called the lower chamber, many people think that the Senate is more powerful than the House. This is not so at all. That said, Only the Senate is involved in the confirmation of appointments just to save time from endless hearings.

When the United States Capitol was first built in Philadelphia, it had four floors. The House of Representatives occupied Floors 1 & 2 while the Senate occupied Floors 3 & 4. That was the genesis of UPPER HOUSE AND LOWER HOUSE. The Capital of the USA has been moved 8 times; Washington D.C. is the 9th city to serve as capital of the USA. In Washington D.C., the Senate and the House now occupy adjoining wings of a huge complex building rather than being located on different floors of the same building. The Senate occupies the northern wing of the capitol while the House occupies the southern wing. Strictly speaking the Upper/Lower House is, for the USA, outdated.

Americans devised a system that would prevent the big states from permanently dominating the small states by ganging up. So, election into the House of Reps is on the basis of population. No matter how small a state is, it must have at least one Rep. So the smallest states have only one Rep. These small states include Delaware, Vermont, New Hampshire, Wyoming, South Dakota, etc. There are probably more people in Ilesa than in the state of Vermont or Wyoming. By contrast, large and populous states have much higher numbers of Reps. California has 53, Texas has 36, Florida has 27. These numbers are determined solely on the basis of population.

By contrast, regardless of their land mass, population or wealth, all states are considered equal. For this reason, all states are entitled to an equal number of senators- just two. So huge California, Texas, Florida and New York have two senators each just like tiny states like Delaware, Wyoming, Vermont and South Dakota.

The President of the USA is NOT elected just by winning the highest number of votes. Rather, each state is regarded as an indivisible unit called COLLEGE. The electoral college of each State is the number of Reps in that state plus 2 (the number of senators). This means that California has 55 electoral college votes (53 Reps plus 2 senators). Texas has 38 electoral college votes (36 Reps plus 2 senators). Maryland has 10 (8 Reps plus 2 senators). The smallest States each has 3 electoral college votes because each of them has 1 Rep plus 2 senators.

When votes are cast, whoever wins in any state is assigned ALL the electoral college votes for that states regardless of the margin of victory. Only two states (Maine and Nevada) allocate college votes based on proportionality rather than winner taking all. Biden won California and New York by big margins and therefore gets all the college votes for for California and New York. Biden narrowly won Georgia and Arizona. But he still gets ALL of the college votes for Georgia and Arizona. Similarly, Trump won Texas, Kentucky and Tennessee by wide margins; he got all their electoral college votes. Trump narrowly won North Carolina but he is assigned all the electoral college votes of the state.

In all, there are 538 electoral college votes (438 Reps plus 100 senators). Half of 538 is 269. The elected President of the USA is the man who has the majority (270 or more) of the electoral college votes.

Most times, the man who wins the electoral college is also the person who gets the highest votes nationwide. But of the 46 elections for American presidency so far, there have been about 5 times when the person who got the highest overall votes from individual voters is different from the one who won the majority of the electoral college.

In year 2000, Al Gore beat George Bush (the son) by over one million votes. But George Bush won the electoral college by 3 votes. In 2016, Hilary Clinton beat Donald Trump by over 3 million votes but lost to Donald Trump by 74 votes in the electoral college. This year, Biden had seven million more votes than Trump. He also got 74 more electoral college votes than Trump.

Let me make one more point.

The number of senators per State never changes. But the number of Reps changes every decade according to the census. The populations of warmer states like California, Texas and Florida grow faster than those of the cold states. So adjustments are made every 10 years to the number of Reps that a State has. Some States would have more Reps, others would have less while some remain the same depending on increase, decrease or no change in population.

In 1960, Florida had 8 Reps, Georgia had 10 Reps, New York had 43 Reps while Pennsylvania had 30 Reps.

Currently, Florida has 27 Reps, Georgia has 14 reps, New York has 27 Reps while Pennsylvania has 18. Florida and Georgia had gained more seats while New York and Pennsylvania lost seats. These big differences in representation reflect population migration either because of weather or because of job opportunities. Retirees migrate to the warmer States.

The USA had a census in 2020. The results will cause changes in the number of Reps allocated to some States in the next election (2022). If it were in the USA, Lagos would long have picked additional seats in the House of Reps at the expense of Ekiti, Osun or Ebonyi States.

Foreign AffairsThe Wisdom Of Xi Jing Ping's Father by snowwhyte607(op): 8:18am On Nov 21, 2020
*President Xi Jing Ping of China said:*
As a small child , I was very *selfish*, always grabbing the best for myself.
Slowly, everyone left me and I had no friends. I *didn’t think* it was my fault and I criticized others.
But my father gave me 3 sentences to *help* me in life.
One day, my father cooked 2 bowls of noodles and put them on the table. One had an egg on top while the other bowl had none on top.
Then he asked me to choose a bowl of noodles.
Because eggs were hard to come by those days, I chose the bowl with egg!
I was congratulating myself on my wise choice/decision and decided to wallop the egg. To my surprise, I saw that my father's bowl of noodles had *two* eggs at the bottom beneath the noodles!
With much regret, I scolded myself for being too hasty in my decision.
My father smiled and *taught* me to remember that *what your eyes see may not be true*.
He added that, *If you make a habit of taking advantage of people, you will end up losing*.
The next day, my father again cooked 2 bowls of noodles: one bowl with an egg on top and the other bowl with no egg on top.
Again, he asked to choose the bowl I wanted.
This time, I felt smarter so I chose the bowl without any egg on top.
Hmmmmmm to my surprise, there was not even a single egg at the bottom of the bowl!
Again, my father smiled and said to me, *My child, you must not always rely on experiences because sometimes, life can cheat you or play tricks on you*.
Never be too annoyed or sad, with situations, *just treat experience as learning a lesson that cannot be gotten from any textbooks*.
The third day, my father again cooked 2 bowls of noodles, one bowl with an egg on top and the other with no egg on top.
He asked me to choose the bowl I wanted.
But this time, I told my father, *Dad, you choose first. You are the head of the family and you contribute the most to the family*.
My father was very happy and he chose for me.
He chose the bowl with one egg on top. But as I ate my bowl of noodles, to my surprise, there were *two* eggs at the bottom of the bowl.
My father smiled at me with love in his eyes. He said, *my child, you must remember that when you think for the good of others, good things will always naturally happen to you*.
I always remember these 3 sentences of my father.
Xi Jing Ping
As we continue on the remaining journey of 2020, think for the good of others. Don't be selfish, Put others first and your joy will be completed. Don't run after post, position, wealth, fame etc and bruise others to get it. God Bless you as you wish others well.

BusinessMoney Mistakes We Do Often Times by snowwhyte607(op): 7:10pm On Jun 29, 2020
*Money Mistake 1*
Never borrow money that accrues interest to start a business . That is to say, never borrow money to start a business expecting that the business will generate income to pay back the borrowed money plus the interest.

*Money Mistake 2*
Never spend money you haven't received. Don't even promise someone money based on a promise you have from someone else. If someone tells you: "Ezra, come to my office tomorrow at 9am and pick #30K"don't go out to buy items on credit based on this promise, with the hope that you will pay off your creditor when the promised money comes; it may not come as promised and this will leave you in problems with your creditors.

*Money Mistakes 3*
If you want to save, whenever you receive money, don’t start spending hoping that you’ll save what remains. Normally what remains is zero because as long as money to spend is available, the numerous things you can spend it on are also available. And things to spend on even incite their 'relatives' so that you spend even more than you had planned. When money to spend is not available, we naturally find a way of doing without it. That's why I've learnt to save with an INVESTMENT CLUB. Once I send money there I assume I no longer have it. Before you spend any money, put your savings aside then spend what is left after saving.

*Money Mistake 4*
When you get an opportunity to meet a very wealthy person, never ask for money. Ask for ideas on how to make money. They may even choose to give you money on their own after seeing that your ideas are great, but let getting money from them never be your objective.

*Money Mistake 5*
Keeping your seed instead of planting it. Many people stop at saving. It's very, very difficult to save and have all you need to maintain your lifestyle especially after retirement. When you save, your savings are seed; plant it. When you just keep the seed (saving money) some seeds begin to die (eaten by inflation and the like). That's why I recommend that you read about the different types of investment vehicles you can use to grow your savings. I am not necessarily talking about putting the money in a business, because you can easily lose money in business. I am talking about putting it in an investment.

*Money Mistake 6*
Never lend someone money you are not willing to lose. By the time you lend someone money, be contented in your heart that should the person fail to pay, you will not die. You should not even lose that person's friendship if they fail to repay the money you lent them. If you feel the person might fail to pay you and this will not affect your relationship with them, then lend them money. If their failure to pay would make you hate this person’s entire clan, please advise the person to go to the bank.

*Money Mistake 7*
Never append your signature to guarantee someone on a financial matter if you are not willing or able to pay the money on their behalf. Do I have to explain that one? No, it's self-explanatory.

*Money Mistake 8*
Avoid keeping money you don't intend to use in the short-term within easy reach. For instance, don’t walk with #100K in your pocket when all you plan to do in a day costs #20K. Like I mentioned in Money Mistake 3, there are always expenses available to gobble any money that is within reach, so if you don't want to lose it, put it away in a safe place.

*Money Mistake 9*
Avoid keeping money in inappropriate places e.g. in socks, under the pillow, in a pit, in the sitting room, in the bra, in a travel bag that you will place somewhere in a bus ... impulse buying is a devil that will keep you busy!

*Money Mistake 10*
Spending money on an item that you can do without (at least for the time being). These days when I pick money from my pocket or wallet, before paying for something I ask myself: What would happen if I didn’t buy this? If I find I can live with the consequences of not having that thing, I smile and walk away.

*Money Mistake 11*
Paying an amount for something that's not the minimum you can get that same value for. In other words, if you are along east Legon road and you pay #5K for a shoe that you can get at #3K at Makola market, that's a money mistake except for those who have achieved financial freedom.

*Money Mistake 12:*
Consistently spending all you earn or more than you earn. It's like having a drum where you have an inlet that's smaller than the outlet. It will never get full. And should the inlet ever reduce significantly the drum will run dry. If you do it the other way round and the inlet is bigger, it will get full and even overflow. Hence, we have to always ensure we are widening the inlet while narrowing the outlet – all the time. Your side hustle comes in handy!

*Money Mistake 13:*
Thinking about short-term only and forgetting about long-term or thinking about the long-term and forgetting about the short-term. For instance, Lydia was told that there's money in land. She saved money over a long period of time and bought 30 acres of land. Now she has the land but she is always broke. She is always complaining. She's disgruntled and she doesn't seem to see herself earning from the land in the near future. Now, let's ask ourselves: Having 30 acres of land and no money to feed your family or take a child to hospital, is that wealth or poverty? I think Lydia only looked at long-term needs and forgot that she has short-term needs that require money. What of those who find they are one paycheck away from salary? Are they thinking about the long-term needs?

Let’s take stock of our finances. How many mistakes are you guilty of? Do you now feel better-equipped to do better with these tips? Good luck, savers! Share this knowledge with your friends because it will not benefit you if you are selfish with it.

God bless you as you work on your financial prudence.

Unkind Things US Diplomatic Cables Reported Tinubu to Have Said About Buhari
By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D.
Twitter: @farooqkperogi

On Friday, February 7, Bola Tinubu’s media adviser by the name of Tunde Rahman issued a press release that attempted to impeach the credibility of a viral, reputationally injurious, pre-2015, anti-Buhari quote attributed to Bola Tinubu.

The quote, which has been making the social media rounds in the past few weeks, goes thus: “Muhammadu Buhari is an agent of destabilization, [ an] ethnic bigot, and [a] religious fanatic who if given the chance would ensure the disintegration of the country. His ethnocentrism would jeopardize Nigeria’s national unity.” I have seen slightly different lexical variations of this quote, but the essential sentiment is unchanged.

Nigerian newspapers reported Rahman to have insisted that “the quote is fictitious, describing it as ‘the handiwork of merchants of hate and fake news.’” So what is the truth? The short answer is that the quote is largely accurate.

I’ve never shared the quote even though I’ve been familiar with it since 2011, but since Rahman was bold enough to “challenge those behind it to mention where Tinubu made the remark,” let me offer some help.

Tinubu didn’t say those words at a news conference, as some people have inaccurately claimed. He was quoted to have said them in a confidential diplomatic cable that the United States Consul General to Nigeria sent to his bosses back home on Friday February 21, 2003.

We got to know this because, in September 2011, WikiLeaks—the insurgent, whistle-blowing, official-secret-spewing site—dumped a trove of 251,000 such confidential, unredacted cables that US embassy officials sent to the US State Department in Washington D.C. from all over the world.

In the February 21, 2003 confidential cable, which can be found here, the US Consul General to Nigeria reported Tinubu to have said Buhari was an ethnocentric agent of destabilization who would strain Nigeria’s unity if he became president. He also said the Southwest would support Obasanjo against Buhari—which it did—because Tinubu and his group didn’t want the spread of Sharia, which Buhari supported and which Obasanjo countered, and because even though Obasanjo was unlikeable, he was Yoruba and Buhari wasn’t. Looks to me like Tinubu was guilty of the same crime of “ethnocentrism” he accused Buhari of.

The cable reads: “Turning to the presidential contest, Tinubu disclosed that he does not like President Obasanjo because he contributed to the end of democracy in Nigeria during his tenure as a military president and is now benefiting from that history.

“That said, Tinubu admitted that he and his party, the Alliance for Democracy, must support Obasanjo. Southwest Nigeria is Yoruba land and the President is Yoruba. Tinubu"s [sic] party had no choice since it has not fielded a presidential candidate. Moreover, Obasanjo is the only candidate who stands a chance of blocking his rival, General Muhammadu Buhari, whose ethnocentrism would jeopardize Nigeria"s [sic] national unity. Buhari and his ilk are agents of destabilization who would be far worse than Obasanjo.

“Tinubu and many other governors are therefore implementing a strategy to re-elect Obasanjo, partly in an effort to prevent Sharia from spreading. Tinubu predicted that the President will follow his own course, if re-elected, since he will not need as many friends the second time around.”

Incidentally, Tinubu had really kind words to say about Atiku Abubakar throughout his interactions with the Consul General. “Tinubu praised Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he has known for many years,” the Consul General wrote. “Elaborating on his knowledge of the VP, Tinubu said he has known and understood the VP even before his entry into politics. Atiku is a detribalized politician who knows where he is going and how to build bridges to get there.”

The Consul General also wrote that, “Tinubu credits his going into politics to Atiku's personal encouragement.” You won’t guess that going by the way they and their agents tore at each other—or pretended to— in the last presidential election.

Anyway, my search of WikiLeaks’ archive with the keyword “Bola Tinubu” turned up several other unflattering characterizations Tinubu made of Buhari to Americans.

For instance, in a September 14, 2005 “secret” cable, US Consul General Brian L. Browne wrote that Tinubu wanted to be vice president to either Atiku Abubakar or Muhammadu Buhari but was self-conscious of the perception that either option would present the country with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, and reiterated the sentiment that Buhari’s perception as “religious zealot” made teaming with him unviable.

“While Tinubu did not see this [i.e. being vice presidential candidate] as a big problem with Atiku (due to Atiku's noted religious laxity and his pro-Western outlook), it would be a heavy cross to bear for a Buhari-Tinubu ticket because of the perception in many southern Nigerian minds that Buhari is a religious zealot,” Browne wrote. “Because of this factor, Tinubu asserted he had begun to shift his focus, which had been exclusively on the vice presidency, to see the Senate as a nice place to land upon exiting the governor's mansion.”

Again, in a confidential cable sent on Thursday April 12, 2007, the Consul General reported Tinubu to have described Buhari as a “fascist” during an April 9, 2007 meeting. “Tinubu stressed he had no qualms about PDP presidential candidate Umaru Yar'Adua winning the election,” the Consul General wrote. “Yet, Tinubu was adamantly opposed to ANPP presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari. In a recent news story, Buhari called the PDP government 'fascist'. Tinubu sarcastically mentioned that he would take Buhari's ephitet [sic] as being accurate, for who better to identify a fascist than another one.”

As I wrote in my September 24, 2011 column titled “What the WikiLeaks Controversy Says about Nigeria’s Leaky-mouthed Elite” in the aftermath of WikiLeaks exposes of the diplomatic cables, the willingness of our elites to divulge unsolicited information about the nation to U.S. officials “betrays an infantile thirst for a paternal dictatorship.”

“The United States is seen as that all-knowing, all-sufficient father-figure to whom our elites run when they have troubles. We have learned from the US embassy cables that our Supreme Court judges, Central Bank governors, even vice presidents and governors routinely run to the American embassy like terrified little kids when they have quarrels with each other.”

“What I’ve found particularly instructive,” I added, “is that our perpetually lying politicians suddenly become truthful, honest, and straight-talking people when they talk to Americans. You would think they were standing before their Creator—or at least before a stern, omniscient, no-nonsense dad who severely punishes his kids for the minutest lie they tell.”

After the revelations became public knowledge in 2011— and the embarrassment that attended this— Nigerian politicians dismissed them as "WikiLeaks’ beer parlor gossip." Of course, that’s intentionally misleading flapdoodle.

As I pointed out at the time, WikiLeaks was not the author of the embarrassing information about them; the uncomfortable bits of information about them, which isn’t exclusive to Nigerian politicians, were contained in U.S. diplomats' dispatches, which were intended ONLY for the consumption of the US president, the US Secretary of State, and other high-profile government officials but which WikiLeaks exposed to the rest of the world at the cost of tremendous discomfort and embarrassment to the US government and embassy officials.

I don’t know what exactly Tinubu’s media adviser is denying. The truth is that Buhari’s people are already acutely aware of Tinubu’s honest opinions of Buhari and find his latter-day pandering to them, in a bid to earn their support for his 2023 presidential ambition, both theatrical and entertaining.

For the rest of us, though, his media aide’s forceful denial of that which is already archived in the public domain proves English journalist Francis Claud Cockburn’s famous quip that you should “Never believe anything until it has been officially denied.”
