eph12: Ibafo is cool. Lots of business springing up here and there. But still the same old story whether PDP or APC no government seems to care about Ibafo. No light, no tarred road. I rest my case.I think the government is concentrating more on areas that are very close to Lagos and the state capital. I believe power supply will improve soonest as that power station around Papa-lanto comes to full capacity production. There is a very good road being constructed inside Mowe town through Ofada to link up with the Abeokuta-Ijebu-ode express road. My people within Mowe said they do have power supply for like 12 - 16 in recent days. |
How is Lagos-Ibadan express road today right form Shagamu Interchange ?. |
Caracta: Lol @ MILC. I thought they call those areas "Lagos-wannabes"Unnhn ''Lagos-Wannabes'' ,I haven't heard that before, but we will stick with MILC on this thread. Have you been to the side lately even if you don't stay there ?. |
eph12: Hello OPHello to you too, How is Ibafo today, Any news form that side. Any opportunity or prospects you want to share with nairalanders. How is the express road today in Ibafo axis ? |
ujoinme: Yes it does, many thanks. Another question- I could see some cables in the skyline(the pictures). I hope the cables are not above the hospital ?. |
Hello Nlanders, I create this thread for some of us that live around MILC (Mowe Ibafo Lagos Corridor) to share ideas, experiences, prospects, opportunities, developmental news and challenges in our neighborhood. I look forward to interesting discuss and great ideas on this thread, I also hope that it will be devoid of ethno-religious and political sentiments. Thanks to you all as we populate the thread. UP MILC residents. |
bnovative: can u post the debt profile of akwa ibom state? And coming to census, it's appalling how u guys concoct figures to suit any purpose; the same way we were told that Kano is more populated than Lagos. How on earth do people claim Akwa ibom has a population of 6million? smhDebt Management Office States and Federal Governments' External Debt Stock as at 30th June, 2014* (Disaggregated External Debt of the States and FCT are produced after June & December each year) 3 Akwa Ibom $59,850,370.59 As for the population you may want to check with Nigerian population commission or Wikipedia. |
Superstar007: Currently, there is a free education programme going on in the state since Mr. Akpabio emerged as Governor and health wise, there is also an ongoing free medical care for infants and old people aged 65yrs+. The man is good! Thanks for answering my questions, I didn't know this before. |
brushparke: You won't know because you are glued to Nairaland. Travel that s how you learn.I think we learn by asking right questions, thanks all the same. |
The Governor is doing averagely ok compared to other states, But when you compare the huge revenue accruing to this state and the relatively small population ( about 6 million) and heavy debt profile one might have a rethink. He has laid a good infrastructure foundation, I think he could have done more in programs that impact directly on Akwa-Ibom citizens. I don't know about his programs on health, Education, Employment/Entrepreneur support. I don't reside in Akwa-ibom but do visit once in a while. it would be nice to hear from indigenes on the programs I mentioned. |
blasterman: in other places churches help the poor, do many things. This ebola outbreak how much has all this churches contributed to health facilites, isolation ward or even pay some of this foriegn companies money for drug.Do you know Sir, that one of the two Laboratories used for testing Ebola is owned by redeemer's university. |

Many thanks neyobills. Agreed that many of the churches are run as businesses, but they are legitimate businesses. Nobody is being forced to give or even go to church a or b in the first place. I think we should be more concerned about what the government does with our taxes rather than castigating people going about their legitimate businesses (if you don't pay tax you could be sued, nobody will sue you if you don't pay tithe n offering). Come to think of it, some of them are registered with CAC and pay taxes. |
Happy new month, I wish above all things happiness and fulfillment this month for all Nairalanders and all Nigerians. |
Eveezy: Yes, fumigation, I dnt knw of any fumigation expert, do u ve any contact of sumone based in lagos?Mimafex Nig Ltd. 0808088997. |
Thanks OP, a fair-skin friend of mine once said that she hates mosquito more than demons. Irrespective of where one stands on the 9 points, ITN is one of the best defense. I am sorry OP (for digressing). When it comes to mosquito and malaria, humans are classified into two groups; the semi-immune which consists of nationals of malaria endemic countries, secondly non-immune which consists of foreigners (expatriates) and nationals of malaria endemic countries raised outside of malaria endemic countries. WHO says malaria prevention could be seen as ABCD. A stands for Awareness; awareness of what a mosquito is, what it does, what malaria is, and means of contacting it( could be seeing as Knowledge is power). B stands for Bite prevention (very important) like using insecticide treated nets, mosquito repellants spray, cream (odomous comes to mind) and other measures that discourage mosquitoes from breeding in the neighborhood. Under this Bite prevention there is a technological scam going on (this is my opinion). There are brands out there that claim to chase mosquitoes away, A friend of mine saw one in Singapore and bought for me, Information on the pack claims that the electronic device emits ultra-silent sound waves (silent to human hear) that mimic the sound of the moving wings of a dragon fly (dragon flies feeds on mosquitoes), Secondly other brands say their products mimic the sound made by Male anopheles mosquitoes( female anopheles are most likely to have mated before starting to feed on blood) so it is believed that female anopheles run away when they hear the sound of male anopheles mosquitoes, IT DID NOT WORK. C stands for chemoprophylaxis which actually means taking preventive drugs, the most suitable option for non-immuned. D stands for diagnosis and early treatment. |
heefeholuwah: maturity is evident..anyways the comment was not an attempt to beef in the first place..just my humble observationThanks. |

I guess I will see you around. BYE for now PATRIOT. |
cirmuell: You guys should stop already, this is not some Hollywood movie...any other method is fyn by me but ebola? You don't wanna imagine the aftermath of it.If the insurgents are injected with Ebola then they don't have a need for bombs again. All they would do is just draw up roster on who would go to the market in a day and how many people to infect. It is counter-productive at the least. |
heefeholuwah: what's with all the trying to sound learned in cartography..its simply an attempt at cryptic quasi-brilliance..be yourself manI smiled when I saw your comment. I want to say that is your opinion and frankly you are entitled to it but that doesn't mean you are right. NO BEEF SIR/MA (As applicable). |
I love the GSD pictures, cute, very cute. The Great Dane pictures, great but it looks like David and Goliath. The bull mastiff picture with the dog's mouth almost blocking the baby's mouth n nose is horrific, that should never be encouraged. Children(Infants and toddlers especially) should never be left alone with Dogs. I learnt Bull Dogs usually lose their memory at advanced age and sometimes forget even the owner, so that's a number one no no dog for anybody with kids. |
ogonogo: I don't understand the need to own a pet dog. To each is own.Dogs are one of the most loyal creatures, they as loyal as it gets. But as you said, to each his own. |
My dogs have not killed anything yet but chases every moving animal in their vicinity especially when they are not on leash. there was a day that they barked exceptionally that I had to go out and verify what the problem was, guess what I found out, a moth taunting them. The moth was flying very close to them but out of reach because they were chained down. I was so angry. |
Please call a fumigation expert, then restrict dogs movement within your living area. You also need to be careful with the Anti-tick preparations because some can poison your dogs, you can discuss with your Vet. God help you and you get rid of the tick, don't allow your dogs to mix or play with just any dog. |
Based on our OPEC quota, We do have 1.7mbpd quota. 1.7mbpd multiplied by Let's say $100per barrel. = $170m in a day. Govt has 60% sharing formula with IOC's. 60% of $170m = $102m So I guess $102m ( may be more) per day from oil alone. another point is why is it that the IOC's with just 40% seems to be doing well than the Govt with 60%. The IOC's pay mega salaries, pay tax, pay compensations, settlement, CSR, Royalties and still have enormous profit to repatriate to their countries where they still pay tax and profit to shareholders. It beats me hollow. |
We should acknowledge the truth irrespective of the source, truth should be sacrosanct just like facts. I will go with Gbajabiamila , Here is the reason. The president after careful analysis said we need $1b, which we don't have. But we have more than that in resources, so we could convince OPEC to give us more quota, Even a 100k barrels per day increase would do, If we are able to achieve that, we then look for seller of high spec machines ( no need to convince them, all of them need crude, sweet crude at that). Assuming we are paying 100kbpd, in a month we would have paid 3mbpd, let's say the value is $100 per barrel, in a month we would have $300m( and 60% of that goes to the govt, while 40% goes to the IOC). 60 % 0f 300m will be 180m. So we pay 180m per month and in one year we would have finished payment of the $1b war equipment. it makes sense to me. |
Nice article, eye opening no doubt. But I will have loved to see more data as in mileage. What I mean is, If Africa is from Latitude/longitude 1 to Latitude/Longitude10, what is the distance/mileage between the cardinal points, that should give us a more objective idea of the size of each continent. Until when I have that fact , the present Map suffices. |
Ceasar1: I just read some scary trending stuff. Someone said it's possible for the virus to mutate into air borne.Yea Ebola is scary, I am a bit scared too. It is true that viruses and bacteria do mutate into more nasty strains nut that usually happens in curable or treatable diseases, the virus change in response to drugs being used to combat it and thereby becoming more nasty and unresponsive to hitherto effective drugs. If we look at Ebola, it is not treatable by any means so no trigger for mutation and secondly it has remain 5 strains since 1976, I guess it's not going to start mutating now. I do like some optimistic, never say die posts re-assuring us not to panic, that this one would go as the flu(s) and SARS went , nevertheless we need to intensify public awareness about the Virus and the basic precautions. I think Govt should set up Emergency control centers, with all necessary equipment like dedicated lines, fully equipped ambulances with hazard suits, specially trained medical personnel, designated primary responders' hospital and morgues. PLEASE LET'S WASH OUR HANDS ALWAYS, As one advert says, Good health is in our hands, may this is the right time to practice that. Lastly Health workers, PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF (UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS) |
Seun: Your dogs have protective instincts, but if you want them to be more security conscious, you should not let them get used to the entry of outsiders into your compound. The way to achieve this is to always lock your dogs away before allowing outsiders into your compound.Okay , thanks. |
Seun: Barking when chained is quite normal for a young GSD. GSDs don't like sitting around doing nothing. Give the dog something to occupy herself with. I like to give my dog raw chicken laps to challenge him. Also, try to play with your dog to get her tired before chaining her. Also, get her something to play with e.g. a lawn tennis ball. Many dogs are crazy for tennis balls, including my 2 / 3 year old dog. When I got my first GSD ('cos I have 2 now), my Vet was telling me about his own, and all the training, Sit , Go , Jump, Shake, Chase and Attack. I was thrilled but when my dogs could not obey chase or attack at 4 months I was worried and discouraged. One day I was feeding them and some one came into the premise and without prompting or command the two charged and wanted to chase the person, I quickly shouted stop, go back. I apologized to the man but I was happy inside me that yes, my dogs are getting it right. |
It is not a big deal, you feel insecure when you are around dogs and smart dogs can sense that, a dog might interpret your insecurity to mean you are about to do something sinister, hence the chase. I suggest you watch more Cesar Milan on you-tube. Also you could be-friend more dog owners (confident dog owners) for more rapport and interactions with good dogs. |
