adewasco2k: He grew up too fast though I will not dispute that fact.

I have always feed him royal canin dog food.....started with the royal canin for puppy then now on rousl canin for German Shepherd.
If he continue to grow at this rate, you have to do a lot of walking and exercise for him.

samyan12: What breed is this dog too pls?
This look like a cross-breed between a Belgian Malinoes and GSD or GSD with a local dog( based on the coat , the ear and the gait).
The dog in the first picture is a poorly-fed or ill Boerbull .

Nostalgia21: thanks alot sir.. I've already gotten a rott anyway. Will post pic of her
Cute pup, good coat , box head ( I think), with good training and vaccination shots you should have a great experience with the Rott. I am a GSD enthusiast though.

proffemi: Please stop.

Médecins Sans Frontières. Google them up. You quite possibly owe those guys (mostly white) your life, because they, along with a few organizations like them, have been responsible for keeping Ebola from our doorsteps for decades. Ebola could very well have been created in a lab (another discussion that will be counterproductive at this time). You should however consider that the overwhelming bulk of efforts to keep this epidemic from decimating us, have been by the same oyinbos you're blaming (abi, what important role has any African aver had in containing Ebola?).

Long story short: please lets try to keep the conspiracy theories out for now.

Just my opinion.
Ebola has been around for a long time, It was first reported in Zaire and Sudan in 1976, it was named after the Ebola river in Zaire now DR Congo. First outbreak infected over 280 and fatality rate of 53%. The last outbreak in 2012 had a fatality rate of 51%.
I hope this will make us as a people to stand up and start to make good choices and stand up to our leaders to make good choices.
HealthRe: Ebola Virus Hits Lagos by Soknown: 8:04pm On Jul 24, 2014
I expect the Federal ministry of health to have contacted WHO by now and WHO should be sending their experts on Ebola.
Thank God that the hospital that the man reported to quickly picked it up.There is more need for public awareness to prevent panic and two, to prevent spread in case it becomes a confirmed case (after the confirmatory test in WHO Lab in Dakar).

No , If he is isolated , he will only have contacts with health workers who would be in proper personal protective gear, hazard suit and all.

I read it on Channels site too, I hope the confirmatory test will come out negative, Also I hope we will be able to isolate all individuals who has had contact with.
Nairaland GeneralSea Phenomenon (salt Water/ Fresh Water) by Soknown(op): 5:38pm On Jul 24, 2014
There is this phenomenon that always catch my attention anytime I fly over or ride on the sea. Few miles to the sea, the sea water will have a brownish/brackish look, as you move further, it will turn to light blue color and it is when you move further more into the sea that you will found the deep blue ocean water color. I guess this only happens in Nigeria coastal Especially Lagos) waters because of dirty fresh water coming into the sea. My question is does this phenomenon happen elsewhere in Nigeria waters or other countries'.

CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by Soknown: 10:08am On Jul 22, 2014
fairheven: Society becoming more urbanised yes, lazy? Not so,language is just a means of communication, the easier the better, pidgin English is not necessarily inferior to the English language.there are countries wu have pidgin English as official language.
Infact there was a research carried out by the BBC,which said that in 10/15 years period, pidgin English wud become an official language in most west afrcan countries.
Language could be defined as a means of communication between a group of people but it goes more than that, it is an integral part of a culture, In fact take away original language from a set of people and they forget who they are. BBC may have their facts through research (unfortunately we don't research into such issues in this side of the globe) but I doubt if it can come true, pidgin may become more popular possibly refined but I bet it can't be regularized across borders. I once read a novel by Sierra-Leonean or Liberian(can't really remember), written in pidgin English and it was nice.
CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by Soknown: 9:53am On Jul 22, 2014
johndwayy: bros Are you calling pidgin english a failed acculturation and enculturation? I don't think you understand what you are saying. Don't you know that language is dynamic and evolving? Each society and family has a unique way of communication. I know of various families in my neighbourhood that have successfully formed their own pattern of communication among themselves...which is Like a mixture of pidgin english, english language and d local dialect of the town, the important thing here is that they can communicate effectively and understand themselves.
Bro, thanks. I understand and agree with your point that language should be rich, dynamic and possibly constantly evolving as it comes in contact with other cultures. Let's look into your example of that group of people in your community that has a blend of pidgin, English and dialect, let assume that this new language is 'x' language, we can assume they this 'x' language is rich, dynamic and with time evolve based on contacts with other variables, forthwith the new evolution of their language would be based on 'x' language and it goes on like that and with time the original ( or what I call the " aborigine) language would be lost and not only that the newly evolved language would still be at variance with proper context/text-book English language.( two pronged losses)
Let me use this example that could highlight preservation, In Yoruba language ( I use it not because it matters but because it is the only Nigerian language I understand). The word room nowadays means Yara , Iyara, Iyewu or Kaa. These words are still being used in Yoruba literatures today, so if you bring a 18th century Yoruba man through time machine to this present century, he would understand what Yara, Iyara, Iyewu or Kaa mean because he used them in his time.
Lastly I am not a language experts but an enthusiast and I am not calling you out, just exchanging ideas. Thanks
CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by Soknown: 8:53am On Jul 22, 2014
johndwayy: All these pattern of thoughts, asian culture indirect speech and the others you mentioned above, if not understood by your listener or audience, makes communication defeated. A particular language or dialect is only peculiar to the people of that race and not to everybody, for you to communicate and interact with people, you have to speak what they understand. Why didn't you post your comment in your native dialect, cos you know I might not understand it- that's what I'm saying.
Have you noticed that pidgin english has gained widespread popularity and relevance in nigeria? What do you think is the reason?
Pidgin English uuhn. Back then we use to call it broken English because it is actually broken( English punctuated by jargons and local languages). It is gaining popularity because our society is becoming more urbanized and Lazy ( bearing in mind that there is a basic human instinct to take the shorter route.) it is a failed acculturation and enculturation. Example two cultures meet suddenly and instead on assimilating the other, the two found a cheap albeit unstructured means of communication. Who is the loser , the society. That is why we fail to grab the full essence/usage of the English language and essence and richness of our local languages, hence some are going extinct.
CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by Soknown: 8:28am On Jul 22, 2014
I am fluent in my mother tongue - Yoruba. I wish to learn Hausa and French. I am very happy that my two year old daughter can speak some words too, few weeks back I was at home and looking for my car key, I called to my wife - Kokoro moto yen da ( where is the key to the car ? ) and my daughter pointing to a place said - kokoro o ti jabo (the key fell there), I was surprised but my wife wasn't.
Secondly I have friends that are Igbo and they are both fluent in Igbo and Yoruba ( fluent as in when speaking any of the two, they don't mix it with English). Sometimes when we are in the cafeteria and conversing in Yoruba language some of our other friends who only speak Igbo and English would join us on the table and expect the language to switch to Igbo but I always insist we discuss in English that everyone understand. Sometimes also I might be discussing with someone who doesn't understand Yoruba and my folks would come flying Yoruba but I always reply them in English so that the person I am discussing or chatting with would not think we are insulting him/her.
PoliticsWhy All These Hates ? by Soknown(op): 7:51am On Jul 22, 2014
Good morning folks. I pondered on this question for some minutes before I typed considering whether it is grammatically correct, but to tell you the truth I can't wrap my head around it. Secondly I woke up this morning with that question in my head that I just can't get it out.-- Why do we hate each other, why do we have so much aversions to each other. Sometimes when I go to some for a (especially internet) to look for concepts and ideas all I get is ethnic bashing, north vs south , Yoruba vs Igbo , Igbo vs Hausa ( all vise versa). If I can live peacefully with foreigners (I mean Expatriates)that come to take resources from my country, I see no justifiable reason why I should not be able to live peacefully or accommodate my fellow Nigerian irrespective of tongue, physique and any other discernible differences.
Lastly I want to say no people, tribe or race is more evil than the other, because evil is inherent in man. What we become as people, tribe and race is always an interplay between nature and nurture. Thanks.
FamilyRe: Graphic Photo: Dad Beats Babysitter Unconscious For Molesting Son by Soknown: 9:16am On Jul 20, 2014
Bigsteveg: An enraged father in Florida yesterday attacked his 11 year old son's babysitter and badly beat him after discovering the 18-year-old molesting his son.
According to police authorities, 18 year old Raymond Frolander was in bed with the 11-year-old boy when the dad walked in on him sexually assaulting the boy. The Daytona Beach father angrily punched him unconscious and then called 911.
I just walked in and found a grown man molesting (my son), and I got him in a bloody puddle for you right now, officer,” he said.Dispatcher: “You said the person who assaulted, you beat him up?”
Caller: “ Oh yeah, send him an ambulance. He’s going to need one.”
When officers arrived, they found Raymond Frolander motionless on the living room floor. He had several knots on his face and was bleeding from the mouth.
"He is nice and knocked out on the floor for you," the father told the 911 dispatcher. "I drug him out to the living room."
The father - who was not identified by police - told investigators he walked in as Frolander was abusing the boy. He said he trusted Frolander, who had been alone with his child before. The 11-year-old also later told child protective investigators that Frolander has molested him since he was 8 years old. The child was too afraid to say anything.
When asked by the 911 dispatcher if any weapons were involved, the father said "my foot and my fist."
The father has not been charged with any crime. Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said:
"Dad was acting like a dad. I don't see anything we should charge the dad with. You have an 18-year-old who has clearly picked his target, groomed his target and had sex with the victim multiple times."Frolander is charged with sexual battery on a child under 12. He is being held without bail. According to the arrest affidavit, Frolander admitted the abuse.

LOL...THE FIRST PICTURE GOT ME WAKING MY NEIGHBOURS WITH LAUGHTER.
Oh that was unfair to the 18 year old. One side of the face is swollen than the other, the two sides should have been made swollen and bleeding.
HealthRe: Hepatitis-B Kills Faster Than AIDS by Soknown: 7:16pm On Jul 19, 2014
Delafruita: keep talking out of ignorance.i had hepatitis B aout 5years ago and i was lucky it was diagnosed within a month.my doctor made me realise people die within 3months if the virus isnt detected.even the sympthoms of hepB are crazy.extreme jaundice, bitter tongue, serious fatigue, insomnia etc.a friend of mine died of the disease because he thought it was typhoid so my friend, dont just comment on things from a layman's point of view.hepatitis kills faster than AIDs and 100 times more infectious because it has various modes of transmission and can reside otside of the hosts body for a longer period that HIV.

the liver very important.if stops working for a few seconds, the body cannot be detoxified meaning-death.so try to learn without disparaging the good doctors who are trying to create the awareness.and try to get the hepB vaccine if you havent
I like your courage my friend. The truth is so much has been given to HIV/AIDS at the expense of other killer diseases like Hep B. HIV cannot survive outside of a living tissue for long but Hep B virus does for example if a drop of blood containing HIV drops on the floor, the HIV would live just as long as the cells in the drop of blood live. as soon as the cells die the HIV dies. But Hep B virus would continue to live even in that dried drop of blood for days and can still infect any open tissue that comes in contact with it. Now imagine how many people touches public spaces with open wounds and unwashed hands and all( Never leave a wound or open tissue uncovered please). Government and NGO's need to step up campaign on HBV and C. Awareness and screening are the strategies that can stem these rampaging/ravaging liver infections. The liver goes, the whole body follow in no time. Let's protect our livers.
HealthRe: 13 Tricks For Falling Asleep Faster by Soknown: 7:00pm On Jul 19, 2014
I do practice # 4 on the list - Deep breathing. It is effective for me.
This how I do it.-- I sit down on my bed with a soft pillow on my back against the wall and another one on my lap to rest my arms.
I will take few shallow breaths. Then I will take a very deep breathe and hold for like 30 seconds ( I do this by counting down) after which I release the breathe slowly and that is a complete cycle of deep breathe exercise. I don't do more than 4 cycles before the effects start to kick in and I tell you this, I will sleep like a baby afterwards.

Research shows that being continually sleep-deprived makes you dumb, irritable, distracted, unhappy, and fat — among other terrible things.

But knowing that sleep is necessary, and the science behind why, just makes the feeling of lying awake at 3 a.m. worse.

To help the night owls among us get some rest, we gathered the best practices from sleep science. The experts call it "sleep hygiene." Here's a crash course.

1. Get into a bedroom routine.

Do the same relaxing things before bed every night — the ritual clues your mind and body that it's time to get to bed. Go-to exercises include hot baths and deep reads, which Bill Gates, Arianna Huffington, and other high-achievers swear by.

2. Arrange your bedroom for maximal sleepability.

Sleep to Live Institute director Robert Oexman tells Business Insider that you should keep your room cool (between 65° and 68°F) and dark. Get some blackout curtains if outside lights are an issue.

3. Don't use your phone as an alarm clock.

Lots of us rely on our iPhones to wake us up in the morning. The only problem is that if you can't sleep, you'll get the itch to fuss with your phone, which is loaded with app-based stimulants.

Don't let that happen to you.

"Your bedroom should be reserved for sleep, sex, and nothing else," Oxeman says. "There's no excuse — if your cellphone is your alarm clock, then buy a $5 alarm clock and solve the problem."

4. Practice deep breathing.

Putting a little intention into breathing deeply is a way of signaling to your body that it's safe to relax.

Family therapist Vikki Stark walks through the technique on Psychology Today:

"On the inhale, visualize the clean, fresh air coming into your lungs, traveling around your body and cleansing all your cells. On the exhale, imagine all the toxins and negativity being safely expelled into the atmosphere, leaving your body restored. Focus on this steady, calm inhale-exhale, and I guarantee that you will start to feel more peaceful and relaxed. But it's not going to happen the first time you try it. It's an exercise so you need to practice it to get the best effect. Keep going till you feel your body let go."

5. Relax the muscles in your toes.

To release the workday stresses that have made a home in your muscles and tendons, use "progressive muscle relaxation" when you're lying in bed.

It's pretty simple: You tense — then release — a muscle group, and then move on to another one.

Catherine Darley, director of the Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine in Seattle, advises focusing this progressive relaxation technique on your toes.

"Curl your toes tightly for a count of seven, and then relax," she says in Health.com. "Repeat through each muscle group, working up from your toes to your neck."

6. Occupy your mind with a mental exercise.

Counting sheep is so last night. The better option: Sleep expert Dr. Vicky Seelall says to try counting backwards from 100 in multiples of three.

The rhythm of counting can lull you into a sleepy state, and counting in multiples of three has a bit of a challenge to it, so that you'll actually have to pay attention.

7. Get out of bed.

Harneet Walia, a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic's Sleep Disorders Center, says if you can't fall asleep after 30 minutes of lying in bed, you should get up.

"You're basically training your body not to sleep in bed, but to lie there and not sleep," Walia tells US News. "And your mind can get conditioned to that."

So avoid a screen and do something calm, such as reading a book, listening to music, or even doing the dishes.

8. Get your worries out of your head.

If your mind keeps babbling about what might happen tomorrow, next week, or next year, get it out.

Walia suggests you try "jotting down all your worries on a piece of paper so it's out of your head," which sounds like good advice, given that "expressive writing" has been found to be an awesome approach to soothing anxiety.

9. Get your alarm clock away from you.

One of the worst parts of sleeplessness is the mounting awareness that you're not getting enough sleep.

To avoid that, exile your clock. "No clock watching," Walia says, "That's a big no-no. Turn the clock around."

10. Try visualizing a beautiful experience.

If you keep ruminating over something that happened today, occupy your mind elsewhere.

Here's a suggestion, care of Cosmo:

"Picture yourself in a place that's unrelated to whatever's dominating your thoughts, and focus on the specifics of the scenario ... For example, relive a favorite vacation, such as that trip to Mexico, and call to mind sensory details such as the feel of the water on your skin, the colors of the fish you saw while snorkeling, and the taste of the margaritas you sipped at sunset."

The vividness has a helpful side effect: It distracts you from what you'd be thinking of otherwise.

11. Get enough exercise during the day.

Your body isn't going to feel the need to rest if you haven't given it any work during the day.

"If you're sedentary all day, your sleep will suck," Lifehacker reports. "The more active you are, the better your sleep will be."

12. Get a better pillow.

Pillow research (it's a thing) has shown that a medium-firm pillow brings the best improvement to people's sleep. Why? Because a pillow should support your head and neck.

Also, Oprah magazine says to pick up a non-allergenic pillow if you think you might be allergic to down. Then get a dust mite protector to keep those mites from messing with you.

13. See a doctor.

If sleeplessness is a chronic problem, the experts all recommend talking to a professional.

Vivian Giang contributed research to this article.
