nts Feelers from Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Thursday indicated that the group might split after the Christmas festivity. A source told The PUNCH that the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation had been engulfed in crisis since after a secret visit of its leaders to President Goodluck Jonathan. The source, who is a prominent member of the group, alleged that the delegation received N30m from the Presidency and another N10m from the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah. He claimed the N10m from Oduah was to appreciate the group’s solidarity for her during her ordeal over the N255m bulletproof jeep saga. “The cash gift of N40m, which is calculated at supporting President Jonathan for the 2015 election, sparked off the crisis. The whole fight got to the peak when leaders of Ohanaeze excluded our youths from the sharing formula. “With the development on the ground, some very strong members of ours are pushing for a split and that could happen by the first or second week of January,” the source said. Meanwhile, the Concerned Igbo Patriots has also alleged that with the secret visit to Aso Rock, the current leadership of the Ohanaeze might have started trading with Ndigbo interest again like their predecessors did in the run-up to 2011 elections. The CIP, in a text message to our correspondent, also argued that the delegation to Aso Rock was a faction of Ohanaeze under Gary Igariwe, just as it kicked against Eze Cletus Ilomuanya leading Igbo traditional rulers to such a meeting. The CIP leader said, “They will sell Ndigbo as Ralph Uwechue did. Prof. Ben Nwabueze is the Igbo spokesman for the National Conference.” However, Secretary General of the Ohanaeze, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, dismissed the alleged cash gifts to the delegation as “a fabrication by faceless scary minds, which should not command my comment.” More Stories in News CHAN 2014: Mba doubtful for Super Eagles, says team official December 26th, 2013 / Comments Read Full Story Christmas in camp, price for World Cup ticket, says Falconets’ captain December 26th, 2013 / Comments Read Full Story Nigerian pilgrims visit holy sites in Galilee, Capernaum December 26th, 2013 / Comments Read Full Story http://www.punchng.com/news/crisis-engulfs-ohanaeze-ndigbo-over-jonathans-largesse/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |

State plans to produce 745 million gallons per day by 2020. The Lagos State Water Corporation is to invest $3.5 billion (N575.5 billion) in water production and supply through Public Private Partnership in the state. The corporation’s Group Managing Director, Shayo Holloway, made this known in an interview in Lagos on Sunday. Mr. Holloway said the investment would boost water production and supply from 210 million gallons per day to 745 million per day by 2020. He said that this was in line with the corporation’s master plan project targeted at providing potable water in all the nooks and crannies of the state. “What we are doing now is to involve Public Private Partnership in the project to acquire the needed equipment because the state government cannot do it alone,” he said. The group managing director also identified vandalism, illegal connections and residents’ refusal to pay for water service as some of the challenges facing the corporation. “Our challenges are far greater than other states. Lagos State is the most populous state in the country with over 20 million inhabitants. We are currently expanding our network on piping,” he said. Mr. Holloway said the corporation would soon inaugurate the Ota-Ikosi Mini-waterworks in Ikorodu with capacity of four million gallons of water per day. He explained that the waterworks would serve more than 11 communities in Ikorodu and Epe axis. “Besides, we are in the process of finalising the design with a foreign company to develop 50 million gallons of water per day in Badagry to serve Mile 2. Also, another construction of waterworks is ongoing at Odomola in Epe which will serve Epe, Ibeju-Lekki and other environs. The state currently needs about 540 million gallons of water per day, but we are constrained due to some challenges of epileptic power supply and lack of access to funds,” Mr. Holloway said. http://premiumtimesng.com/regional/151883-lagos-govt-invests-n575-5-billion-water-production-supply.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=lagos-govt-invests-n575-5-billion-water-production-supply |

Yes I believe GEJ can still win south west if he does the following: 1. He should approve the construction of badagry seaport intead of playing politic with it. The private individuals offers to build the seaport. the money they'll use is not nigeria money. So why playing politic with it? Is it because is not in SS? 2. He Should stop playing politic with the lekki seaport. The approval that FEC gave to it was just a Camouflage. We know what is really happening. 3. He should speed up the construction of lagos ibadan expressway with 80 percent completion b4 the end of 2014. 4. He should stop frustrating investments out of Olokola FTZ. He's now trying to frustrating dangote from building the refinery. |

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has been commended for apologising to and compensating a widow, Joy Ifije, whom he insulted while on an environmental inspection of Benin City. Several respondents in Ogun State also suggested that the governor, whose wife died in 2010, marry the widow. According to some of the respondents interviewed by PREMIUM TIMES, the meeting between the governor and the widow may have been occasioned by divine forces. The respondents were of the opinion that, being a widower, there was no harm in the Governor remarrying and that it would be appropriate to marry a widow. “I am of the opinion and conviction that the meeting and the incident between the governor and the widow, which later attracted public attention, was divine. “As we can see today, the governor felt for the woman, had to apologise over the error and even empowered her,” Albert Ashipa, a politician in the state, noted. The Governor, on Monday, offered Mrs. Ifije N2 million and a job. “From my own opinion, I think God has a purpose for the two of them and there is nothing wrong if the two eventually fall in love, in view of their marital positions. I believe both cannot and should not remain single parents for life,” Adunni Eweje, a petty trader in Kuto market, also posited. A civil servant, Razaq Ayinla, while commending the governor for his gesture, concurred that the development was God’s doing and advised that the duo make positive use of the opportunity. “The development is God’s doing and I want to advise the governor and the woman to make good use of the divine opportunity as they are known to be facing the same challenges,” Mr. Ayinla said. Adesola Adenopo, a resident of Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Abeokuta, in her reaction, noted that biblically, it is appropriate for the two of them to re-marry. Also commenting, Olanrewaju Dasaolu, a hotelier gave kudos to the governor, for realising his error and correcting himself. ‘I equally support the suggestion that the two may get married. Afterall, they are facing same challenges. And with the incident which occurred, I think it’s God’s calling and should see it as God’s doing’ Dasaolu emphasised The Governor, during the inspection, had seen the widow displaying her wares beside the road. When she pleaded for mercy to avoid the seizure of her goods, he asked her to go and die. The governor’s words were roundly condemned by the public. When apologising to the widow, Mr. Oshiomole said his words were borne out of anger and frustration. ‘“Let me apologise to you for the way I spoke to you; I am very sorry about the statement. I have also realised that even in anger, one could still achieve the same result that he set out to without provocative outburst. I apologise from the bottom of my heart, but sometimes you get angry when people compromise your efforts,” the governor said. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/150771-ogun-respondents-ask-oshiomhole-marry-insulted-widow.html |
The Niger Delta People Salvation Front, NDPSF, as well as the Niger-Delta People Volunteer Force, NDPVF, two groups claiming to be fighting for the emancipation of Nigeria’s Niger-Delta region, have given the government of Benin Republic 48 hours for the release of one of their leaders, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, who was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic on Tuesday afternoon. Since his arrest, his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, says he has remained incommunicado. The groups also called on youths in the region to remain alert as they are ready for a showdown. “We hereby make demand on the Republic of Benin President, Mr. Yayi Bonni, to release unconditionally with immediate effect our leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and offer unreserved apology to him for this monumental breach of his rights. “We hereby make it known that we shall by every means necessary draw the attention of the international community to the reality of our condition that is politically motivated by enemies of the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration and of our struggle for the emancipation of our people who are afraid of the unfading rising profile of our leader as a defender of the rights of the oppressed. “We call on all the aggrieved youths of Niger-Delta to be on red alert and ready for a total showdown and shut down if in the next 48 hours his release has not been made,” the group said in a joint statement signed by four top members of the groups. Asari Dokubo:arrested by Benin gendarmes The groups said the same people who have been making moves to distabilise President Jonathan’s government were those behind the arrest Dokubo-Asari, as a search conducted on his house in Cotonou did not provide any reason to get him detained. “We wish to put these characters on notice that should political crisis swallow the West Africa sub-region, the blame will be upon them,” the groups said. Calling on President Goodluck Jonathan and the African Union to mediate on this potential diplomatic row, they described Dokubo-Asari’s arrest as unjustifiable, absurd and extremely provoking. “We consider this a kidnap of our leader by the President of the Republic of Benin working with certain opposition figures in Nigeria,” while denying that their organisations remain determination groups rather than the impression that they are militant groups. “Our struggle which today has advanced the cause of social justice in Nigeria is a just, moral and legitimate struggle that is in tandem with the United Nations charter and Convention on Self Determination. “We wish to reiterate that our leader has been living legally in the Republic of Benin for some years and has been law abiding doing his businesses in accordance with the best practices,” the groups said. Keyamo had raised an alarm over the arrest of Dokubo-Asari, his client saying the Benin Republic gendarmes picked him up between 1pm and 2pm on Tuesday. In a letter Keyamo wrote to President Jonathan on Wednesday over the arrest, he said: “we write to bring to your notice that on Tuesday, 26 November, 2013, a Nigerian citizen, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was unjustly arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1pm and 2pm by the country’s gendarmes. “He was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination. “We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari, even though a Nigerian, carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now. In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country.” In the letter, Keyamo said the houses, schools and academy had been searched and nothing incriminating was found. “We think his arrest and detention is a ploy by certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government to keep him away as 2015 approaches. “We call on you to use your good offices to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria,” the letter read. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/11/27/niger-delta-groups-give-ultimatum-for-dokubo-asaris-release/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PmNewsNigeriaFeed+%28PM+News+Nigeria%29 |

The group said there are valid reasons to doubt Mr Jonathan’s sincerity about the proposed national conference The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to address the core issues raised by a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, on the proposed national conference, instead of attacking Mr Tinubu for holding a differing view. Mr Tinubu, had described the planned conference announced by the president on Independence Day, as a Greek Gift, diversionary and deceptive. He also alleged that the dialogue was aimed at promoting Mr Jonathan’s 2015 presidential ambition. However, Mr Jonathan, in his Sallah message to the nation on Monday, debunked the former governor’s claim, saying he decided to convoke the conference in keeping with his avowed commitment and firm belief in the right to freedom of expression and the right of all people in a democracy to make choices on how they wish to live and be governed. Presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, on the same day, said Mr Tinubu’s assertion that the national conversation was tainted with selfish motive, was purely conjectural and in the realm of speculation. The CNPP, in a statement by its spokesperson, Osita Okechukwu on Wednesday, said the questions raised by the former Lagos State Governor and other patriots should be answered by the president because they were in tandem with its own position. “We listened carefully to the statement made by Tinubu on his arrival from medical trip abroad, and it is in tandem with CNPP’s position that President Jonathan is deceptively building bridge to nowhere; as we cannot locate how the resolutions of the conference will work outside the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without a Sovereign National Conference,” the group said. It described as a farce, the allegation by the presidency that the former governor, also a leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, was only thinking about the 2015 general elections while most patriotic ordinary Nigerians were concerned with the emergence of a united country based on equity and justice. CNPP said the elections held higher hope for the ordinary Nigerian’s aspiration for regime change. “Accordingly, our understanding is that Asiwaju, outside the diversionary and deceptive outlook of President Goodluck Jonathan’s conference, is worried over the credibility, reliability and capability of Mr President to pull Nigeria through to a free, fair and transparent 2015 general elections,” the group said. “CNPP pages with Asiwaju on the truism that Mr President’s failure to pull through of the unintended consequences of the conference may hazard and scuttle the 2015 general election, especially when ethnic merchants dominate the 13 Man-Prep-Committee. “This fear can be located on how President Jonathan had demonstrated gross ineptitude and incapacity to manage his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.” The CNPP wondered how Mr Jonathan could mobilize PDP members in the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assembly to amend the 1999 Constitution and accommodate issues that would be raised by the National Conference while the ruling party was in tatters. The group asked Mr Jonathan to explain how the self-determination agitation of the Ijaw National Congress, IJN, a socio-cultural organization of the Ijaw nation to which the president belong, and other ethnic nationalities, would be handled, if the president was not bidding Nigeria good-bye. The group also expressed doubt if Nigerians could trust Mr Jonathan who it said could not implement the recommendations of some committees set up to address salient issues in the country. It said, “Alternatively for the avoidance of doubt, can rational patriotic Nigerians bank on a president who up to date woefully failed to address the core recommendations of the Uwais Electoral Reform Report, Lemu’s post-2011-general elections-Crisis Report, Ambassador Galtimari Boko Haram Report, Orosanya Report and honour the 2009 ASUU agreement and implement the 2012 MOU with the union?” http://premiumtimesng.com/news/146735-cnpp-challenges-jonathan-address-issues-raised-tinubu.html |
President Goodluck Jonathan and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, on Monday engaged each other in verbal punches over the proposed national conference, with the president declaring that contrary to Mr. Tinubu’s claim, the dialogue was not diversionary, neither was it meant to achieve a political end.http://premiumtimesng.com/news/146648-jonathan-tinubu-war-words-national-conference.html |

Eko Atlantic City restoring Lagos coastline – EU ambassadors OCTOBER 7, 2013 BY ENIOLA AKINKUOTU Leave a Comment Some representatives of the European Union member countries in Nigeria have applauded the Eko Atlantic City project, saying it is restoring the Lagos coastline. The delegation stated this during the 2013 EU-Nigeria Business Forum in Lagos, according to a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday. The EU countries represented are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Speaking as the doyen of the EU countries’ representatives, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel, maintained that the project was already having a positive impact. She said, “It is not only helping to help save the coastline, but helping to save Victoria Island, here in Lagos, which is dear to so many people. “It is also a project that has all the ingredients that we the Europeans, and we the Germans, if I may add, think are extremely important, that is sustainability, looking into the future, doing something for the surroundings of a city and also for the people of the city.” The diplomats said the Eko Atlantic sea revetment, known as The Great Wall of Lagos, was now protecting not only the over five million square metres of land that had so far been reclaimed, but the shoreline as well. The Managing Director, South Energyx Nigeria Limited, the company in charge of the project, Mr. David Frame, said, “Eko Atlantic is restoring the Lagos coastline off Victoria Island to where it was 100 years ago. Had it not been for the sea wall, Victoria Island could have faced catastrophic flooding from ocean surge three times.” Frame explained that the Eko Atlantic City was being privately financed and fully supported by the Lagos State Government. He said it was designed to provide the space and infrastructure to house 250,000 people and become the workplace for a further 150,000. http://www.punchng.com/business/homes-property/eko-atlantic-city-restoring-lagos-coastline-eu-ambassadors/ |

abubaka101: I think u should be more considerate in your approach to this topic. To construct a road of 1km cost over N15m, this road is near 7km. Also the road in going to be expanded meaning it would cost more. Also the road has a round about, more money. The road my have additional utilities like streetlamps, which may require solar panels, that alone na another cost. So you see why u need to be more considerate?U̶̲̥̅̊ do knw what U̶̲̥̅̊ are saying. The federal government will spend N39.83 billion on the rehabilitation and expansion of the 6.7km Villa roundabout-Apo road. Information Minister Labaran Maku made this known while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of yesterday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. He said the council approved the project following the adoption of a memo brought by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, seeking approval for the rehabilitation and expansion of the “Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Villa roundabout to the OSEX/Ring Road 1(RR1) junction including five interchanges.” Maku, who said the FEC approved the contract in favour of Messrs CGZ Nig Ltd assured that the project would provide employment opportunities for about 1,500 professionals, artisans as well as skilled and unskilled labour. He said: “In order to ensure free flow of traffic and significantly reduce travel time in and out of the city, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) intends to embark on the rehabilitation and expansion of the OSEX from the Villa roundabout to the OSEX / RR1 junction. The existing segment of the OSEX from the Villa roundabout to RR1 is only partially developed with a two-lane main carriage way and one two-lane service carriageway as against the 10-lane expressway provided in the Abuja Master Plan.” http://dailytrust.info/index.php/news/6839-fg-to-repair-expand-6-7km-road-with-n40bn-in-abuja |
