SpoiltVirgin: only about 10-15 of those schools have an healthy financial and sustainable structure. My younger bro just checked his jamb, he scored 262, he applied for computer engineering at covenant university as first choice. What are his chances of gaining admission? Bro, in as much as his post utme and O level results are nice and more so he chose CU as first choice, he would be admitted for the course. That's the system we use in Landmark and Covenant universities |

Truthcat: I'm sis oo! Abi una no want women for here?
I don't believe it's tribalism, they are protecting their people. Yoruba are the only people in the world who want others to be equal with them on their own soil. What is responsible for this I don't know but, it portrays us as cowards and in some cases slaves who have resigned to fate. We really have to be honest with ourselves. The people you want to be equal with in your house are ready to push you out and take total control. How did Hausa get to be almost 85% of the work force at the Lagos ports and every federal job in Lagos and SW in general? Yoruba kids are not getting jobs in Lagos because outsiders have taken over and will keep replacing with their own while future Yoruba generations can't find jobs.We need to shed this attitude fast before it's over for us.
I.don't want to scare you, but there will be some form of violence to get all our jobs back from Hausa and fulani. Our fathers passed this to us but we will not pass it to our children. Our region has always been the richest since the colonial days and still have more money than we can spend, but all has been going to build the north, Chad and Niger republic while we are denied. No security in Nigeria. No development and history can't be taught in school. We need to be in charge of our resources, police army. Regionalism or outright separation. Yorubaland will be liberated from the long suffering injustice. ah Aunty mi, ẹ má bínú Ma...... Actually like you said when we try to play peaceful with everybody, they take advantage of it and call us cowards. Anyways sha I'm hoping for the best out of this country soon. |

Education › Re: Injustice For Engineering Graduates, Corpers by SoldierBoy1(m): 2:13pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
Feraz: Beautiful answer. While an undergraduate, I was thinking that the semester holidays we do have would be useful if one can gain a bit of experience but when you try meeting some of these persons/firms to work without pay, you are told there's no opening for you. Also, factor in this four years post graduate work experience before you can be certified an Engineer.
I really do wish the Engineering practice in Nigeria can change. At least, we'd be doing so many things ourselves without involving foreigners most times. As for NSE, I am sorry to say but I really do not see that happening.
LOL! I never really liked it.
Maybe my bias for the lecturer made me hate it. Some Lecturers dey make pesin hate some kind courses I swear .... One day I pray our profession in this country would enjoy what our counterparts in the world are enjoying. |
Education › Re: Injustice For Engineering Graduates, Corpers by SoldierBoy1(m): 1:31pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
Feraz: Hmmm! I like your answer. The problem stems from the fact that the regulatory bodies for Engineering are performing below par. I am underemployed, yet, I get mails from NSE and COREN about paying close to N200, 000 for a seminar which will take place in far away Abuja. How much more undergraduates? I have never seen anything like 'FREE ONE MONTH TRAINING FOR GRADUATE ENGINEERS'. They do not mind whatever happens as long as dues are paid. Now, see the issue of Fashola handling ministries that is made up of mostly Engineers but what did these bodies do? Nothing. Of course, someone would say management/administration has nothing to do with your course of study but can you try that in LAW schools or can you try that with the medical body? Imagine an Audu Ogbeh being a minister of health or a Barth Nnaji being an AGF. Honestly, I have long given up on these regulatory bodies. How about SON? See eh, many things are upside down and like someone once told me here - https://www.nairaland.com/1951333/nigerian-engineer-oil-gas-career - it really has to start from the top. I cry whenever Explorers put up threads showing what my counterparts the world over are doing, their advancements in these Engineering fields but what can I do much? Power is virtually nonexistent, policies are inconsistent etc. I am only managing my small designs I know how to do and think up concepts for the future and how it impacts the populace. If it were possible to edit what I wrote in the link, I'd have done that as someone becomes knowledgeable as he ages.
It's sad that people think Engineers are useless or that they do not stay awake for most of the hours. Try working in a firm that involves you thinking about a solution to a problem that has completely shut down production and see if it is not equivalent to doctors who are on calls for longer hours? I really understand the OP's frustration as one becomes angry at the system and the regulatory bodies while staying longer in a place that adds little or no value to your productivity. This is not to undermine the efforts of the doctors as that is what I probably would have specialized in if I was not interested in Engineering.
Oh, there is a saying that if a doctor makes a mistake, a life is lost; if an engineer does, many lives are lost but if a teacher does, generations are lost (of which the teaching profession is one of the most neglected in this country and we are really seeing the effects).
I hated Control System too. But my favourite was Engineering Drawing and Strength of Materials. All these courses that you mentioned, been thinking of going back to refresh my memory on them again.
Interesting thesis you have there. I admire that. Wow we different o.... Control systems was mad but I somehow loved it |

Education › Re: Injustice For Engineering Graduates, Corpers by SoldierBoy1(m): 11:05am On Mar 08, 2018 |
seunH: Sir, you summarize all what I wanted to say, for a start I'm a 500 level vet medical student and our allowance are also higher, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't give honor to whom honor is due. Sir, I personally have a deep and profound respect for Engineers, sincerely it is not easy. From experience so far, you can survive in medical school (I studied Human Anatomy in my first degree) if you have a photographic memory, maybe have some little glitches in surgery but I doubt if photographic memory can help you in engineering. For example, I was speaking to an engineering student and he was giving me an instance of the nature of their questions. He said in some courses, they just give the questions, NO formula, you would have to think of the appropriate formula to use, derive the formula yourself before finally applying it to solve the question, Sir a dullard cannot do the above rather it takes someone with a high IQ. That is why I will always duff my hat for a 1st class engineering student. Furthermore inasmuch as we need doctors we also need engineers even more (my opinon tho), How? The last time I went to the hospital for treatment without exaggerating was more than 5yrs ago, not that I didn't fall sick but most of us still have an idea of what to do if we fall sick it is only if serious we go to the hospital. But for engineering can you count the amount of times you've visited a mechanic, electrician or even a generator repairer just this year? I'm sure we know the answer. The OP has a lot of valid points up there. But the problem facing their profession is quackery and laziness from the part of their association. If laws can be put in place, for example: ensuring all mechanic workshops are duely registered and licensed and the requirement is at least one B Tech or B Engineering holder incharge of that place, imagine the demand we would see for engineers (especially now that cars are getting advanced by the day). Also for civil engineering, No Building or construction should be approved by the government without showing the list of those who would work on the site, which must include a licensed civil engineer (B Tech or B Engineering). And many more opportunities I believe engineers and engineering students can add. In conclusion if the above is done, the demand for engineers both Nysc and Post Nysc would increase and their dues would be duly paid. Thank you I tell you Bro. I'm a Mechanical Engineering student in Landmark University, my Machine Design 3 lecturer Professor Adekoya, once gave us a real life problem and we were to come up with design solutions using knowledge of equations relating to strength, rigidity etc.... Like it was a brain tasking thing, the fulfillment those of us that came up with our own personal designs that were feasible felt was so great . Even in other courses like fluid dynamics and Aerodynamics, heat and mass transfer etc same thing applies. So an Engineer's life involves engaging your own brain In creating solutions. Just reading and storing large amount of information without the ability to think and design solutions in one's own head would take an engineering student no where. Engineering is a course that actively engages the brain. I respect Medicine o, but most of my friends studying Medicine are always making it sound like Engineering is inferior to Medicine when it comes to the use of the brain. Since there are not much to show for it in Nigeria, I guess that's why Engineering has been so ridiculed and e dey painful I swear. |

Outofsync: Nigga, you pay more than a million as school fees. OAU students don't pay up to a hundred thousand. Obviously your infrastructural facilities will be better.
When we talk about intellectual prowess however.... Bro actually I no dey up to 1million for Landmark, and I don't think any department in Covenant currently is up to one million . And when it comes to intellectual prowess, I believe it's left to an individual in as much the person is receiving standard education, but if any federal university student feels private universities like Landmark or Covenant are full of dumb students, then I think the person is only shooting himself in the leg, cos most of our Lecturers, including Professors are mostly products of Federal schools since our schools are still relatively young. I can confidently say sef that we have very standard theoretical and practical resources. There's an example of a guy from my department in my school who left and is presently in FUNAAB studying Mechanical Engineering. He was very sound academically while with us, and even in FUNAAB, he's still one of those leading his department. It's about the person Bro, I'm currently doing my IT,some of my bosses try to wash down my school, but by God's grace, my abilities have been proving them wrong and have succeeded in changing their perception about Private universities that not all are substandard. I can attest to the quality of Landmark, Covenant, ABUAD, Babcock, Bowen sha . Have a nice day Bro. |

There's no day maintenance guys don't work so far as you've filled in what you want them to do at the reception of your hall of residence. And it's just a very simple process sef, just write your complaints. Our schools are really doing well jare, so the hate showed by some is not just worth it. |
