To be candid, I'm not so impressed. Up till now there's no clear cut economic agender.

Buhari was not prepared to hit the ground running. He only hit the ground flying again and again.

I expected him to start up with clear policy to engage the youth of which majorly have good ideas but lack start up capital.

I expected that he wld map out strategy of seeing that Nigeria cultivate, process and export agricultural produce and products.

I expected more from him.

Politics › Re: Why PMB Got It Wrong With James Ocholi' family "compensation" - CramJones by solid3(m): 6:07am On Mar 09, 2016
cramjones:
This is not the first time we would hear things like "automatic employment" or "automatic scholarships" in Nigeria. It has indeed become a national banter in the Nigerian political space. The latest one being PMB to the family members of the late James Ocholi, SAN. Let us see why this makes the government look bad, and why actions like this continually affirms that Nigeria is a failed state!

Firstly, what does automatic employment really mean? It simply means that whether qualified or unqualified, you would be given "job". This further shows that an appreciable proportion of the the work done in our Ministries are performed by unqualified people. In a country where actual work gets done, would never have any allowance for "automatic employment". Employment in any serious economy is based on merit and capability. The keyword is "capability". Even if you knew someone to get the job, you must be capable.

Secondly, this phenomenum shows that the job position was not needed in the first place. it was created based on emotions and the need to "compensate" a political family. What this means is that there would be virtually no work being done, but salary paid. Perhaps that is why there is no need to prove capability or qualification, because the position is simply created to pay someone salary, and not out of need to drive the goals of the ministry forward.

Thirdly, this attitude brings us to the big picture of the rot in our civil service. I met a young man recently who told me he worked in the civil service in Abuja, and only shows up to work twice a month! There is absolutely no how Nigeria can develop if we see government jobs as places to earn salary rather than to work. When work is not performed nothing moves. Could this be why Lagos seems to be the only city that is a bit insulated by the recession because they work for their money and do not rely solely on oil money where less work is needed?

Could the western world be right about their stereotype of blacks being lazy? Is it by fluke that Japan, South Korea, Germany and the rest of the pack are where they are today, while we wallow in our mediocrity, nepotism and lacadesical approach to work? GEJ did the same "automatic employment" to the family of those murdered as by the past Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, through the immigration employment scam. Rather than bring the killer minister to justice he opted for a murderer to remain in his cabinet and "solved" the problem by "automatic employment".

Can Buhari and his government take a different turn, by bringing to light and fixing our dead emergency response system, dilapidated highways, and most especially fix our comatose, non-functional health care system. Won't this be a much better way to honor the family of the late James Ocholi?

I wish the Ocholi family well. This is not meant to attack them, but to highlight a fundamental problem with our system. May peace and comfort anchor this grieving family, and may the souls of the departed rest in peace.

-CramJones
This is a nice write up. But I have a question for you.

What do you think the FG should do for the family aside fixing the road, fixing our health system and probably naming one of such facilities after James Ocholi.

In developed countries, how us this done and what can be done for the family so they know that their late father's service is well appreciated?

Even the north you often make reference to,Igbos dont just sit and watch and be killed,of course i ve stayed yrs in different parts of the North and i can tell you that igbos holds their ground very well during conflicts. Yet many of our people some time falls victim during this conflicts, but i implore you to ask those who where in Jos during the Jos crisis and let them give you the head count and how Igbo zones were highly guarded with heavy arms.
Even sabon gari in kano is no go area for the Mohammedians during crisis, same as most part of Kaduna south where our people and other christians are domiciled. We the Igbos have learnt the act of self defence the hard way and we watch out for each other in volatile Northern states by living closely together in just few streets or in close proximity. Whenever crisis erupt we come together and defend ourselves together.
More over, most igbos in core nothern states ve contingency plans and are almost planning to relocate down east, just before the ultimate balkanization of the contraption called Nigeria.
For now,God bless Nigeria and all its good people.

Oga pastor. 50% of Nigeria is Islamic. Why didn't you have your party in North East and plant seed there instead of faraway Dubai. Versace T-shirt nko? Na from your protégés too?
I hope you typed the above text from your home town, and possible your village, because why will you want to work in town or city when your village need graduates like you to develop it. You know you are only supposed to be a local champion.

But for this pastor, he already has a church in Ilorin, Lagos, Abuja and Dubai. Guess what, he's got a global idea about church ministry. And just incase you wanna know, hes opening new church's in new states soon.

Love Machine:
He should have told the people who wanted to sponsor his birthday to donate the money to charity homes or better still,he should have celebrated his birthday in an orphanage home.Lame excuses.
Well, this pastor is over forty years old. Do you know how many of his birthdays he has spent in orphanages? Do you know how much he has done to help people.

Now, your are not seeing the points he made; he did not pay for it. Church money was not used for it. It was paid for by the people who have listened to him and had their lives changed and could afford to celebrate him in a grand style.

He also used the opportunity to plant a church in Dubai. Now there were three different days of worship, praise prayers and teachings if the Word be Dr Murdock, Pst Felix Adejumo, Rev Mrs Funke Adejumo, Prophet Abiara, Pst Matthew Ashimolowo, praise by Israel Houton, Tye Tribbett.

The party was the last thing.

Is the Christian life supposed to be only in sobritude? Are we not suppose to be able to celebrate in grand style? Who are the good things of the world mad for?

Now hear this, the next birthday celebration for this pastor would either be at the White House or on the moon.

What will people do then?
