That makes sense because they work minimum of 32 hours weekly so a Student's 20 hours weekly won't suffice.

I met someone today who had the issue of ineligibility to work on his BRP. He's on a dependand visa to his wife who is a student. He has resolved it and received a new BRP.

So, to those who had same issue here, have you resolved it yet? If not, I could ask for the steps he took.

Being overqualified is a thing. My colleague once almost rejected a candidate because “why would someone with a masters want a 28k job?.. they’ll just runaway after a few months, we need longevity!”

I explained him that the candidate was Nigerian and 28k was a lot of money in Nigeria, so they really would be happy with the job and wouldn’t run away.

You reserve the right to include or exclude your degrees on your cv. It will not be seen as misrepresentation.

Also, it may not be that you’re overqualified because I know PM in Nigeria is not the same as PM here- we use PMI, they use prince2 (watch videos on this).

Try to use the buzzwords for that profession on your cv or when answering scenario questions.
E.g No one would trust a project manager that wouldn't use words like “PID, term of ref, stakeholders, scope, cost, raid, risk registers, lesson learned” at interviews.

Finally, work on your tone at interviews (please speak in a way that they can hear you).

These are very good tips to anyone job hunting here.

The one from your church, only satisfies your pastor, wife, yourself, your family and possibly God ........

Many Churches are licensed and issue Government Marriage certificates that are legally binding.

No, you can't. Nigerian liscense is what it is called... NIGERIAN. UK driving laws are not the same with ours... Get your international license and save yourself the stress.

And before you ask, yes I know someone over there who couldn't use his Nigerian liscense. Except if you somehow never go through a police check, you'll need an international license

I don't think so. Most people here use their normal Nigerian license for 1 year. It's seen as the same thing as the "International" License.

It's an advice I would give anyone: Your reason for marriage shouldn't be primarily "extra income".

This should be a personal decision actually. My thoughts are that if you postpone the wedding till after your PSW ish, it doesn't mean she will join you for free afterwards so I don't see the point. She will still be charged for Visa, IHS, etc. maybe less though. Your concern should be more of the best way to bring her soonest. Bonus: Spouse's earnings can be life saving if she won't mind working, although, I don't mean you should marry for the extra income o.

Book to London then use National Express Coach to Leeds for £20 or less. National Express has an office in Heathrow or you book online. A train would be more expensive

The advice I give everyone in your shoes is simple: Follow the job thing is 3 ways.

1. Short Term: Get an easily available casual job and start immediately so you can foot your bills. The bills here roll in as you breathe. You can get these at any agency near you or indeedflex. It's typically Warehouse, Care, Factory, Deliveroo, whatever. Seek high paying ones like Amazon, Royal Mail if you have the energy.

2. Mid-Term: Now you have something to foot bills, look for a more desirable job that brings you closer to your career path. Whether the Company sponsors or not is immaterial, you will earn the UK Work experience. This could be anything really, depends on you and the field you're interested in. It could even be a volunteer job (there are weblinks for those shared here previously). So Data Clerk, Customer Servuce roles, Entry level Finance, Volunteer Engineer, Etc.

3. Long-Term: Land that job that will sponsor you and you can build a career in. Choose a Career path and build your self in it. Preferably one you had experience in prior to coming here.

Remember, it doesn't really matter what you studied, it's more about what you can offer. Certifcations and Degrees are of little value if you have no skills in them.

From Day 1, start applying for all 3 categories I listed and keep at it! You can set a target of 10 applications daily. Get ready for lots of rejections and difficult interviews but with time, you would start understanding what is needed and what you're suited for.

There are other options like Lexus said but I can't vouch for them. My wife got a delivery of 10kg of foodstuff and it cost about N60k. Took about a week or so, not sure, I have to get the details. Service was okay: packaged, vacuum sealed, etc but again, I can't vouch for them o!
