Well, I believe two of the TeHN people have been on here and are aware of his case. I mean one of them suggested he give up his admission till he had a sustainable means of funding his education. Based on the cases I have seen TehN handle, this is probably not as desperate a situation but I may be wrong. And I mean no disrespect to TehN as they do a great job and I support them when I can but they too are individuals like you and I who give them time voluntarily so I guess there is only so much they can do. If they handle cases like this, then they probably will be overwhelmed with the number of students who can't pay their fees - I personally don't think that would be a good use of their time.

Since December 11 when Ikanium put up his appeal, at least 4 people have said they will verify his claims but haven't done so. I too waited for the verification till it was becoming apparent this was going to become all talk and no action. The guy has offered to meet anyone for verification - if he has failed the verification, its not from lack of trying. At least on this thread, we have managed to establish that he has been given admission to the school - both verifiable from JAMB website and the school admission list. But then he could just want the 40,000 to go and pose in school and if that is the case, then I leave him to his conscience.

Ikanium, don't worry - just make sure you go to the bank on Monday morning and I will act fast on my end so hopefully the payment can be made to your school on Monday. If not, we will deal with the penalty fees then. I have also asked a contact at Ecobank to check the account numbers but still waiting.

@ikanium this doesn't seem like your lucky day. Perhaps you should try and reactivate the account because it still says that account number is not valid. If there is a GTBank near you, I suggest going there now, its still early in the day and open a student/savings account. There should be able to give you your details today (I hope). Better still, if anyone here works at Ecobank and can assist, please let us know.

Ikanium, I asked for the full address. I need more than Kakuri branch as that is not an option on the list of branches I have. As Peterwins has pointed out, you have to calm down and pay attention. Your fees will be paid - I am online trying to sort this out so pay attention. I asked several posts ago for the full address and it still hasn't been provided.

I already have certain details about you and will painstakingly verify your claims before I proceed further. You may just be naive after all or probably just learning the tricks of the trade (fraud).

You sound like my husband....tough love eh . Don't blame Ikanium, this is probably just a banking issue as the other account number too is not valid. When he confirms what branch, I will try again.

I thought so too but I get the same error with the other account number from Ecobank so it could be from my end or just something crazy with Ecobank. I recently had a dormant account and GTBank allowed a payment in but I am unable to make transfers till the account is reactivated.

Ikanium, go to the bank and confirm your account no and also the process for reactivating your account.

Ikanium, I am also unable to pay into that account even though I don't intend to pay into a third party's account. Can you go to Ecobank and confirm again. I don't get it - I will call my bank now too.

Also, what branch was your account opened?

Thanks slimyem and Sarah for pointing that out. @ikanium, confirm your new account number and the fees + late registration penalty. I would transfer the exact amount to you and when you make payment to the school, upload the teller to 1)confirm that the fees have truly been paid and 2)other people that want to help you can get some confidence and actually still send you some money which can be used for your living expenses.

@Ikanium, you need to go to the bank and ask for your new account no. I just tried verifying your account number from my online banking system and the account number is too long. All banks have issued new account numbers which are shorter so it appears this number is no longer valid. I think other Ecobank customer will be able to use it but not other banks.

SAFO: Okay that makes more sense. It did have a red flag but I don't see how he could have benefited if the account didn't exist at all.

Hi SAFO, Nigerian banks have recently implemented a new bank account format so I think his is still the old format which would make sense if the account is old as he has indicated.

@ikanium, I have followed this thread closely as I really want to help you but there are quite a few inconsistencies here and there. But I guess no one is above mistakes and if you are indeed as desperate as you make out to be then perhaps you are nervous. Post the bank details for your school and what information needs to be included as reference and I will pay the fees. I will also give you a token to help get to and settle down in school. Other people have indicated their willingness to help and I guess we can all pay that into your personal account. If the fees are paid directly, I think people will feel more comfortable helping out. Thanks to kulyie who has kindly agreed to help with foodstuffs? @kulyie, are you able to package the foodstuffs and send it by local transport to where he is? That way it saves him travelling all the way to you.

@OP, I don't mean to scare you but the very fact that you are 26 tells me your test should have shown a low risk of downs. The fact that you are 26 and had this result is probably what worried the midwife. I had my first at that age and the midwife said oh you'll be fine, you are still young, chances are very low for downs. It's your decision to make but I probably won't go for the amnio as the tests for downs are not 100% but I certainly wouldn't dismiss the midwife's concerns. It's good to have faith but also be wise. Vist babycentre.co.uk - you'll find many women in your situation. Above all, pray for God's guidance - your baby will be fine in Jesus name.

Your 6 month old shouldnt be lying on a normal bed - they should be in a cot or similar with adequate protection from falling off.

@mizztee - there are a few events here and there but I don't attend them - probably best to google them. If I remember vaguely, most African societies of the top MBA programmes do a yearly conference and they are great for networking. Check out LBS, Oxford, Cambridge etc.

My exit plan is to be my own boss so no you won't be receiving my resume EVER! Headhunters get in touch with me everyday ESP to move to Nigeria to work for international PE firms and banks and I dont even consider them and you are here talking about your miserable company. In fact if you knew anything about banking as you claim, you will know that salaries are at a high and bonuses low so the total comp is relatively stable. And while you are at it, why don't you tell me what other sectors have comparable salary levels with banking even at its trough? So you want me to believe you receive resumes from bankers yet you can't believe that I work as a banker. What makes your post more believable than mine? Infact keep lying to yourself that people send you resumes - mr hotshot my foot!

Btw, Nigerians are such bullies - y'all want me to say I am suffering. This thread was raised to encourage people looking to the UK for better opportunities. I shared general experiences, I was accused of lying. Made it a bit more personal but of course I am lying! If you want me to tell a tale of woes in the UK - unfortunately for you I have none. It hasn't always been an easy journey but nonetheless it's been a progressive journey. People around me have successful careers as engineers, SAP consultants, doctors etc but I can only speak of my experiences and it happens to be tilted to banking. The message of my posts on this thread is that is possible to excel in a chosen career in the UK. Investment banking salaries are all over the Internet if anyone wants to crosscheck. I mean is the problem that I made up the salaries or the fact that I said I am a banker and potentially earn that sort of salary. Because google is eveyone's best friend - most financial forums have these salaries. Please ignore I said I was a banker - focus on the message of this thread.

As an aside and for anyone who needs encouragement - there are 2 young people I mentor who have full time offers from top firms and they graduate next year so they have jobs before they even graduate and no it's from investment banks! I mean everyone knows how tough it is getting a job now and even tougher if you need a work permit. But I am sure hundreds of Nigerians have managed to secure full time offers with full sponsorship of work permits in this same 'hard' UK. I always stress the importance of attending top schools and doing everything possible to secure an internship while studying. It's not a guarantee but goes a long way in securing a decent graduate job.

Well, I hope the aviation minister is taking note of such issues so she doesn't hastily compare air expenses from Ghana with Nigeria AGAIN. It is clearly very expensive for airlines to operate in Nigeria. Our local airlines are already crumbling under the weight of the inefficiencies in the aviation sector.

I don't think this is BA's fault so they shouldn't be asked to leave. Afterall, BA is the only airline you can consistently rely on to take you to Nigeria with no stopovers, long stories about no fuel etc. As an employer, BA has a responsibility to the cabin and crew it takes to Nigeria. If our inefficiencies as a country makes their landing time inconvenient for us as Nigerians then we should be speaking to the Government not BA.

This is really simple - apart from nonoma, you women abused the system and swindled the US government. I can bet you go to church and claim 'bornagain' yet you have no conscience. Typical Nigerian attitude! Y'all only worried now that you need to renew your visas. I hope valuable lessons have been learnt - there is nothing hidden under the sun and I truly hope your visas are not renewed!

The humane part of me will also tell you that if the form asks for child details then you better put it. If it doesn't, don't mention anything about travelling with the child even if you are. At this point, I would have added take ALL your receipts but you have none. My friend was refused for not bringing receipts and she actually paid in FULL.

Sure - good to learn what other people do. We had friends drum it into our ears to start putting our son in his own room early as when they got wise, it was harder. Maybe we overdid cause 6 months seems early by people's standards on here

I wasn't consistent but started then - if he wakes up in the middle of the night then I could take him back to our room. From 1 year - he was already sleeping through the night in his own room. It worked for us and I am sure I will adopt it for my future kids

As modern as I like to think I am - I think samguru has a point. The wife joined them - she could have waited for the passenger in the front seat to get off at his stop before joining her husband in front. At least that is what I would have done.

It sounds quite strange to me and I doubt that I would agree to such a request from my husband. This again highlights why it is best for couples with similar cultures to get married.
