What really worries me is that you say you are engaged which means you are of marriageable age yet you are obviously very immature. Why do you care so much about what Nigerian girls think of y'all? Okay, pinky17 don't get too excited. I have lived in Jo'burg and visited several times and have loads of SA friends. The honest truth is that most of the Nigerian guys that date SA/Zim girls are never great guys anyway. Most of those guys are not really the most sought after by Nigerian girls. They settle for SA/Zim girls because they know certain Nigerian girls will not date them and they just settle for less. Now as for Nigerian girls hating on you guys, that is news to me. I remember a Kenyan friend once telling me her Nigerian bf at the time did not like or date Nigerian girls. I chuckled to myself because I knew that guy could not pull any decent Nigerian girl but he was obviously a prince to this Kenyan chic.

@cap28, please have you worked in these companies such as Slaughter and MAy before or you are just assuming that if you are black, you need to take rubbish from an oyinbo person. You obviously still have the slave mentality, no disrespect but I am really struggling to understand how you arrived at that conclusion. You wrongly assume that the black people working in blue chip companies take crap from the oyinbo person and I am really curious to know how you know this. Do you work in all these organisations or you are assuming - it is very important for me to establish this.

The UK has very clear discrimination laws in the UK, why would I keep quiet and take orders from someone who is clearly below me in ranks when the courts are there to address my concerns? There are many challenges working in the UK, I should know talking from experience but sorry to disappoint you, it's nothing like you are suggesting. Things are mostly based on merit - there is a clear career and promotion path, at least for me. There is no chance of an undeserving oyinbo getting ahead of me neither was I given a token job.

I remember when i first arrived in the UK, everyone tried to discourage me bout settling in the UK after studying as "black"people rarely make it in the UK. Well, I know loads of people who have proved that to be wrong, someone already  mentioned Tidjane THiam. Sorry I haven't been on here for a while. I have noticed that a lot of people ask the same questions. I CANNOT help anyone get a job. If you want to apply from Nigeria, forget it please and focus on getting a job in Nigeria. You might be able to save up enough to come and do a masters and perhaps get a job after your studies. London met is not a good school, I can't say this enough. There are several league tables but this is a link to one of them http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/gug/gooduniversityguide.php. In my opinion, rankings gives you an idea about the reputation of a school. London Metropolitan refuses to be ranked and that is because it is NOT a great school. I think it prefers not to be on the table rather than being given a poor rank.

Arggggggggggghhhhhhhh, some Nigerians make my blood boil. Did the judges say the election was not flawed? I believe they said there was not enough evidence to cancel the elections. What is so hard for you to understand there? Some people say it should have been cancelled especially as the public and everyone else knew it was flawed. As someone said earlier, even if the judge knows it was flawed. He has to make a decision based on what evidence was presented to him in court. Or do you guys not even read. In some cases that are high profile, they seclude the jurors from public so they are not influenced by the outside media. Why is simple logic not easy to understand? I'm sorry to say but they is no way Nigeria can move forward when its citizens have this warped reasoning. I personally think that the judges should have upheld the elction because if they didn't then Mark should have been the acting president. Where is Mark? His own election has been annuled so who would have taken over? Maybe Bankole but for me that whole uncertainty is too much for a young democracy. We are learning, we will get there. We can't start running without crawling. This democracy thing is step by step, we shall get it right in the end but to suggest that elections should be redone to get a more credible proces is plain ridiculous. I don't like Iwu but I agree with him when he says they've leant lessons for the next election. Even as humans we make mistakes and learn from them to be better people.

Anyway aside from that, I truly weep for Nigeria oh because these youths (our so called future leaders) haven't got a clue. Imagine someone saying Buhari saying he had up to 100 witnesses who were not allowed to testify. And so who are the witnesses? All Buhari has to do is pay 100 people a sum of money to say whatever. How is the judge able to verify their claims? In this day and age, Nigerians could not use their mobile phones, camcorders, cameras, etc to get hard evidence of malpractice in the polling centres. Instead they want the judges to rule on sentiment. I ask again, where is the evidence?

Hello everyone,

I am considering doing the CFA and thinking of using BPP as I live in the UK. I chose them for no particular reason except my employer uses them for some other courses we take at work so if anyone has suggestions on a better provider, please let me know. Also, I haven't started preparing for the exams, actually haven't contacted BPP but can do so before the week runs out but what I want to know is if I can realistically pass the June exams if I haven't started studying. I also have a very demanding job and work very long hours so not sure if 5 months is enough for me to prepare and pass it. Please for those of you that have done it, please let me know how feasible it is to do the June exams and pass. I could do them in December as well but that would give me only 6 monhs to study for level 2 which I assume is harder. I have some financial knowledge and work in Investment Banking, also looked at the syllabus and I feel that it doesn't look too bad as I have done some of the stuff before but I just don't know if its enough to help me pass the exam (of course I know I have to put in a lot of extra hours too). So please any thoughts on provider, study hours, study techniques would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

You also mentioned that someone shouldn't move from Asset management to Retail Banking because your boss is making miliions of pounds of bonus in AM. Is this in Nigeria?? So why advice someone on what you know little about. Do you know if Retail Banking is more lucrative in Nigeria?? Oh sorry I forget Asset Management must be more lucrative, it works that way abroad. @liliana, I don't think you can start applying now for jobs because you would be unable to attend an interview. Getting a job wthout a UK degree would be extremely difficult but I'm sure it is doable. However, I would advice you to come do the Masters at Universty of Birmngham(best out of your options). You could also consider Manchester Uni but you wouldn't be eligible for home student's fee because as you rightly pointed out, you haven't lived here for up to three years. All the best!

Yaradua's daughter did not turn Dangote down, I believe there are two daughters in question. One of them married the kebbi state governor and the younger one married Dangote.

I really love the first one, wish I had seen it earlier. The second one is nice too but the third one is a big NO for me.

I don't know what the others are but I like converse. Although, I find that I hardly wear them these days.

£385 for a Gucci watch but I did not pay for it  , I probably wouldn't want to spend that much on a watch if it was my own money,  I've paid £125 for a wallet though and a bit more for my sunglasses.

@ Karl, sorry I missed you out. Dis guy is right, Scotland would be a good place for an oil and gas masters. Robert Gordon, Heriot-Watt and University of Aberdeen are obvious choices. Imperial College is also a very good place but it is probably the most expensive. You could also try Newcastle uinversity. All the best!!

Sorry I have abandoned this thread for a while. I would try to answer some of the questions asked that Dis guy hasn't already answered. First of all, if you school in Nigeria then I'm sorry I really don't know how you can get a job here except you are thinking of coming to do a MASTERS or something of that sort. Please bear in mind that I am not saying it is impossible, I just can't advice you on that and suggest getting a job in Nigeria for starters.

@Gomez, Coventry university is NOT a good university. I don't know how I can phrase it in a nicer way. I know a lot of people that went there and some are doing well so it doesn't mean going there is totally a bad thing but if did your first degree in Nigeria then you really want to boost your chances with a better school on your CV.

@Coon-kg, your choice of school is quite good especially for the course that you have chosen. Surrey uni has a lot of links with engineering companies including my former company so I think you made a very good choice and I'm sure you wouldn't need my help when looking for jobs. A lot of engineering companies would be advertising in your school so you should be okay. Good luck.

@Ndipe, my post might reek of pride because I am very proud of what I have achieved and also very thankful to God for his mercies. There is absolutely nothing wrong in doing odd jobs, if I had to do that to survive then I would. My post was in reply to those bad belle Nigerians than think everyone that lives abroad is suffering. I take very STRONG exceptions to people saying that because I live abroad I must be cleaning toiltes and working through the night to make a living.

@ Sienna, please tell them that you can live abroad and live a good life. I would always say that most Nigerians are ignorant which is why they believe that everybody in the UK is like their poor relatives and friends struggling here. I have never and by God's grace will never suffer in the UK so when people start saying rubbish like pack your bags home or you're a second class citizen, I get really irritated (like what do they know??). Back to the topic at hand, I hardly call Nigeria these days and that is because my life has moved on, I have new friends and a new life. I call my good friends once in a while, I remember their birthdays and all that good stuff but the truth is my life has moved on.

There is also the call card issue esp when you can't call Naija directly from your phone but Nigerians want you to call right this minute.  I need to go out and buy a call card but can I really be bothered to leave my house to buy a card so we can have an irrelevant conversation. On my old phone, I could call Nigeria directly and to be honest it wasn't that expensive but I can't even do that on my new contract because calls to Naija have been banned which I am sure is no thanks to my odu brothers and sisters. To the original poster, bear in mind that your true friends will keep in touch where ever they are. If they don't, then they don't consider you guys close enough to waste their credit on.

Lol at all the weird comments, all I can say is a lot of people are ill-informed. What I have learnt about Nigerians these past few months which might explain why we are still so backward is the inability to open their minds. They hear something from one person or see for themselves and conclude that is how it must be for everyone even when there is evidence to the contrary. Not everyone in the UK does three jobs and don't sleep to make a living. As I always say, people's circumstances are different. I live a very decent life in the UK and no I don't have three jobs and I sleep at night and by the way, I don't do odd jobs and never would. I can live a decent life whereever I choose, UK, Nigeria or USA. I have completed my education to the level that means that by God's grace, I can afford a decent life whether I live in Azerbaijan, Congo or UK (wherever). I think it is important for everone to assess their own personal situation and find what works best for them. A relative might be suffering in the UK does not mean you would have to do the same. Instead learn from other people's mistakes. Don't try living abroad illegally, don't relocate without properly researching your career options, don't leave a decent life in Nigeria to go looking for greener pastures because the grass isn't always greener on the other side. There is absolutely nothing wrong wth living in Nigeria if you can cope with the no light issue, armed robbers etc. Come on, even using the GSM during christmas was a nightmare for me. I plan to return home someday but I take serious exceptions to people suggesting that everyone abroad is suffering.

And someone already commented on the tax system in the Uk, it is not a straight 40% its a bit less than that when you take tax allowances and different thresholds into consideration.  Please people try and be informed before making all sorts of conclusions. Nigeria is not a bad place to live neither is UK but just make sure you are happy wherever you are and doing something worthwhile.

MILITIA does not sound like a married woman of three children, she sounds like a market woman. When your children don't have food to eat or are embarassed at school because of school fees, try sitting down and waiting to find a job in a location that suits you, rubbish!

@denex, I'm sorry to say that it is very clear how ignorant you are. First of all the protest letter was written and signed by well meaning people, Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike who have asked that compansation is paid to Osamuyi's family not them. I would think that this is because they feel it is the right thing to do. Regardless of his crime or nationality, Osamuyi had the same rights as me and you and in no way does that include cutting short his life for no reason. I cried when I listened to his mother asking Nigerians to help her. Her son was the breadwinner and if he went through those desperate measures you mentioned to get to Spain then all I can say is poor boy. That his situation at home in Nigeria was so bad for him to embark on such a dangerous journey to help his family is even more disheartening than the murder itself. The fact remains that Osamuyi was treated the way he was because the Spanish authorities knew that nobody would call them to order. They couldn't have meted out the same treatment to say an american drug-dealer and not  faced serious consequences. I must admit I WAS shocked to read on this board that the SPanish securty officials were doing their job, says who. They are murderers, as bad as the armed robbers we have back home. They had no right to take someone else's life and I can bet  my life savings that their job does not incude killing a deportee. When I heard of this story, I thanked God for my life and thanked Him that my situation did not require taking desperate measures to better my life like Osamuyi did.

I have been following this thread because I am from Edo State and obviously, my interest was piqued. I feel sad that Osunbor won the elections because there is no way anyone can convince me that Adams Oshiomole won't make a better Governor than Osunbor. You have to have lived in Benin to appreciate the state PDP has left Edo. Eight years and all Igbinedion has done is loot the state silly. Am sorry but you cannot be an outsider and make comments about the elections in Edo State becasue ypu just cannot understand the mess PDP left Edo State. There is no way that the Edo State people would have voted in a candidate from a party that has done nothing for them and even worsened their situation. Eight years and nothing to show for it except poverty, bad roads, armed robberies etc, If PDP was a responsible party, they would have called Igbinedion to order but they do not cvare about the people they promised to govern and give a better life. They are all thieves and they certainly do not deserve to be given a chance to rule the State and finally wreck the little left of it.

So if Oshiomole called on the Edo State people to defend their rights, I understand his point. Those people have been taken as fools for far too long. I am not sure why people are claiming he asked them to be violent, he did not tell them to start fighting. He was not responsible for the actions of the violent protesters. I just don't see how he can blamed for that cations of responsible adults. If he said go out and fight, then thats another matter, he said the Edo people should stop being silent and I agree with him. Sometimes I feel Nigerians just like to talk and talk without thinking things through. I read on this same thread that the courts did not clear Ngige but cleared Atiku and found it funny. Did Ngige take his case to the Supreme court? The judges ruled on the case that was brought to them which was Atiku's. Now that it has been established that INEC cannot disqualify candidates, Ngige and the others disqualified can now try to seek redress from the courts,

Can't Nigerian Colleges of Technology and Polytechnics award Degrees like them there in the UK?? Can't YabaTech still remain a college of Technology and award BTech and MTech Degrees?? Can't our Institute of Management & Technology (IMT) Enugu be like the prestigious Massachusette Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States where Bachelors, Masters and PhD Degrees are awarded??

Hotstepper, I don't know where you are based but in the UK, 80% of the top employers want a 2.1 or better. Some would take a 2.2 with masters or 2.2 but with extenuating circumstances.Infact I visit a number of UK job forums and you get these sort of posts from people complaining that it is unfair to dIscriminate against them because they got 2.2.

I disagree. Not everyone or almost 80% GET 2.1. Even in my class, only two people get 2.1. All I can say is in the UK, you get what you deserve unlike Naija that you can pay for your degree.
