clocky:
It is much easy for students to change their status in the UK these days especially those that studied science and engineering at either Bsc or Msc level so your statement is not totally true.
the marriage phenomenon is more popular amongst those on visit visa.
Clocky, you statement is not exactly true either. The science and engineering scheme you mention is for a year only and after that the person needs to pack their bag home or else an employer applies for a work permit on their behalf. I am not aware of any scheme in the UK that allows you change your status that easily so yes marrying for green card or whatever is still very rampant. However the UK is making it very difficult for people who are doing it. On a personal note, I won't do it as I have a home(Naija) but never say never.
PoliticsRe: Worst Performing Nigerian Governor? by somebody(f): 2:08am On Jun 22, 2006
mrmayor, if other governors had such vision(TINAPA) in at least one aspect in their state, then I think the people won't complain so much. Truth is TINAPA and obudu would provide employment for thousands as well as income and increased profile for the state. From what I've heard Duke examined the opportunities for development in Cross River and thought tourism was the best option for his state. My calabar friend told me quite recently that Duke cannot finish TINAPA before he leaves and that he is deceiving himself. That'll be pretty sad but the point is that he at least tried while others like igbinedion and co were sleeping. Whether or not he is a thief, he would be remembered for his vision in Cross River cause while others slept at night, he was toiling upwards in the night. cheesy

Can I join the Eric Jerome fan club cause I absoultely adore him?? Another woman is whoa, I really liked that. I have read all Dickey's books apart from his new one which I am going to order off ebay now. Been waiting to be less busy before doing that. Other black fiction authors I love are Marissa Montleigh, Omar Tyree and Michael Baisden. Hmm, enough of the story.

I believe that they should be no contest. Lucky is most certainly the worst governor ever. At least in other states, the governors would have at least completed one major project or led an improvement. While my dear governor cannot account for the money he collects from the federal government every month. I am assured he will not go scot-free for getting richer at the expense of the Edo State people.

Music/RadioRe: Stella Damascus As A Singer. What Are Your Thoughts? by somebody(f): 2:09am On Jun 08, 2006
Stella has been singing for years. She did not join the bandwagon of actresses trying to sing. Read how she met her husband, she's been singing from around then. I think she started singing even before acting. Whether she sings well though, I don't know.

If the girl in that picture is a top model in Nigeria, then, no comment.
@Orikinla, your model friend should use people criticisms to improve. There have been excellent suggestions already-she needs to find a new make up artist, photographer etc, I wish her all the best.

You are creating a society of criminals that way, because say what you want, children raised by a mother alone are always more out of control than those from a full family.
Rubbish. I lost my dad when I was quite young and I am not out of control, neither are my siblings. It is very wrong to generalise like that.

@ Idekeson,
LOL! For real, why is it that you crusaders love to dish out insults, woes, death and what have you but, obviously, don't want the same done to you? Insulting the Muslims and their Prophet, killing their stone-throwing youths, denying their nations of every human right and, when they dare talk, you start calling them "millitants" and "terrorists"? Why? Please, can one crusader just tell me the reason?
They are called terrorists because they don't talk, they kill innocent people- other people's children, mothers, brothers, fathers, friends
PoliticsRe: Ait License Revoked Because Of Live Transmission Of Senate 3rd Term Debate?! by somebody(f): 10:02pm On May 11, 2006
I think people should stop predicting doom for Nigeria come 2007. People, have faith, the God that delivered us from Abacha would definitely deliver us from Obasanjo and his cohorts. Personally, I think Nigerian youths should be more proactive and let their voices be heard on this third term issue. Believe it or not, it is our future these jokers are playing with.

Logical:
Now the fight here as said does not mean kill, or go and perform suicide, it means preach the word of God, in relation to what evangelism is all about, and thats why there is reference to those things required for them to believe in, and if they do not, let them pay taxes rather than zakat, because they are under the islamic rulers protection, this is generally during conquest of those threatening their peace and harmony.
Fighting: is purposeful conflict between one or more persons, often involving violence and intended to establish dominance over the opposition. How on earth can fight mean preach the word of God?
CareerRe: Need Advice On Finance Career by somebody(f): 8:55pm On May 09, 2006
Personally I don't think it would be a plus for entry level but it might help for a more senior role(compared to grad) which you can only get if you have experience and maybe some qualifications. So i think what makes sense is to try and get some work experience in that field. But firstly I think you need to make decisions as to where(as in country) you want to pursue this career path, go to company websites and check their candidate requirements. Then you'll be able to see the qualifications that would be valuable to them if any.

You can also check out this site, its for young people trying to get into this field. It might also help answer some of your questions. http://www.ibtalk.com/forum/forum-3.html

@ takethat, I think the name changes to nwoke because the moderator's nickname was suen(misspelt) and now he has changed it to nwoke. So it might be that he has written some form of code to automatically change suen to nwoke. But other variations like seuno i think remain unchanged. Thats just a very wild guess but i think thats why.
CareerRe: Need Advice On Finance Career by somebody(f): 2:04pm On May 09, 2006
Most IBs get work permits for fresh graduates if they like them. A couple of my friends have had IBs and other companies do that for them.
CareerRe: Need Advice On Finance Career by somebody(f): 1:45pm On May 09, 2006
Please also note that I am talking about graduate entry levels as that is where I am at now and SeunO stated he is a final year student. I don't know about other levels.
CareerRe: Need Advice On Finance Career by somebody(f): 1:42pm On May 09, 2006
@takethat. Good on you for taking people without discriminating. When did you start working there because i know that they used to take people with 2.2s and it wasn't as competitive as it is now. I am not saying you have a 2.2 or anything I am just trying to state how people who got in earlier say with a 2.2 might not believe that their employers only accept candidates with 2.1s now.

Things have changed and even though HR deny that they do not discriminate, I believe they do and when I read an article about it earlier this year, I was even more convinced. Plus, most IBs visit only certain universities to give these students the opportunity to network and find out more about the application process. This gives them an edge over other applicants and this is how IBs subtly discriminates. A typical example are two vacancies on my school website now for a position in an IB but guess what, I have searched everywhere- mikround, their website to find out more about the job and if its something I would like to do. It is nowhere to be found. My guess- if i told a friend of mine say maybe at lse to check the vancacies being advertised on her school website, she'll find it there. But others won't have access to it because they only want people from certain universities to apply. The general perception of IBs is that they are less picky when it comes to roles in IT and operations but for a position in front office, you have to have gone to a top university. It is also believed that the bulge bracket banks are more picky with regards to the university attended than the tier one and two banks.

So if SeunO is aiming for a top role in a bulge bracket bank, he has to have a certain pedigree. I hope you get my drift. Besides for entry level(graduate) positions, I am very sure a candidate does not need a work permit or even experience.
IslamRe: Islam Forbids Aggression Against Innocent People by somebody(f): 11:39am On May 09, 2006
Logical, I do not think islam is evil. If I did, I would not have gotten close to the muslims I know now. I am sorry but did you say you haven't heard any muslim justify innocent killings in the name of islam. On the other thread, I wasn't saying you were boring me. I am just getting tired of this christain/muslim issue cause I am still as confused as when this discussion started. Maybe you can help me understand islam better.

Does islam condone violence?
If no, why do some clerics and muslims justify their violent actions with quotes from the quran?
Why are there practices of stoning a woman to death, cutting ones hand off?
Are these practices not considered violent?

This is way off topic but please whats the diff btw moslem and muslim? I do get confused and I apologise in advance if that makes me sound ignorant.
IslamRe: Islam Forbids Aggression Against Innocent People by somebody(f): 10:51am On May 09, 2006
The difference between the armed robbery example you gave is that no christain will come out and quote from the bible that it is okay to be a thief because, But with the muslims it is different. Many muslims say islam does not condone innocent killings, I believe but others say the actions of terrorists are justifiied. So I ask you-who should we believe.
Christianity EtcRe: Da Vinci Code: A Lesson To Muslims by somebody(f): 10:45am On May 09, 2006
This would be my last post because the topic is starting to bore me(yawn). Please just in case, my english teacher did not do a good job of teaching me english. Please tell me what direct and indirect means. Someone saying mohammed might have approved of miss world was directly attacking the muslim faith. But someone saying that Jesus had sexual intercourse with Mary is not attacking christains because as you claim it is fiction. If you want to go down that route, muslims should not have taken the cartoons of Muhammed seriously because it was just art.

I got the excerpt below from a website so maybe you will understand why da vinci code is a direct attck on christainity.

"Why is everyone writing with questions? Yes, The Da Vinci Code is only a book. It is clearly labelled as being FICTION, i.e. false, made up. Because of that, many people wonder what all the hubbub is about and why the book has stayed on the top of the sales charts for over a year. Especially since Holy Blood Holy Grail had the EXACT same plot, back in 1982. The Jesus/Mary M concept is hardly a new one.

The answer in short is the marketing effort put into a book that is based on a religion that millions of people use to guide their day to day lives. Dan Brown made clear in interviews that this is the HIDDEN TRUTH and that he and his wife are art historians and painstakingly researched every detail. In fact the book has a statement in it that while the situations are made up, the research on the religious organizations and artwork is all fully authentic. Dan Brown is telling people that the book is based in a fully authentic "environment". This then makes art historians and historians in general furious, because there are many glaring errors in the book. It makes religious people furious, because the book makes some serious claims about what the church has done in the past and is doing in the present. Dan Brown named real peoples' names, and gave backgrounds on real, actual organizations. In his text, some issues are simple errors that any real art historian should have figured out as a basic background check. Others are far more serious errors of genealogy and history."
Christianity EtcRe: Da Vinci Code: A Lesson To Muslims by somebody(f): 1:49am On May 09, 2006
@ Logical. Let me remind you, In 2002, a newspaper "suggested" that Prophet Muhammad would have approved of the Miss World beauty contest. I hope you can remember how many people were killed because muslims reacted violently to that newspaper article. Now you say because Dan Brown's book is based on fiction, it does not attack christainity. Maybe those muslims that started rioting in 2002 should have been told that since it was only a suggestion, it was not an attack on islam.

I am sure you are aware that a fatwa was placed on the girl that wrote that article and she left Nigeria almost immediately to save her life. And I can also tell you that Dan Brown is still walking  the streets freely with no fatwa placed on him because he suggests in a book that Jesus had sexual intercourse with Mary.
IslamRe: Islam Forbids Aggression Against Innocent People by somebody(f): 1:31am On May 09, 2006
@Logical,I do not support Bush's invasion of Iraq but he did what he believed was right for POLITICAL reasons and not because he felt he needed to fight for Jesus/God. His decision to go to Iraq had nothing to do with him being a christain. He does not place christainity before his position as the president of America. So what if 80% of the soldiers in iraq are christain. They are doing their jobs not fighting a war for Jesus. They are serving their country. But that is not the case with the muslim terrorists who kill innocent people in the name of islam. My muslim friends have told me and I believe them, that islam does not support this. However I do have a problem with the other muslims that do not see it as a problem because so so and so did it 900 yrs ago or presidents that are christains are equally killing innocent people. If someone did something wrong in the name of christainity, I would condemn it. I would only start making excuses for that person if I believe that their actions are justified.

Logical:
ok you might have a point there, but based on what my direction of argument is, I am saying that, when a particular person performs an action whatever his primary intention is, we shouldnt throw a blanket and judge !!
Even when these acts of terrorism take place, muslim leaders denounce the actions of these terrorists as those that have been led astray.  Other muslims say these terrorists have misinterpreted the quran. As for judging,  I would condemn any wicked act irrespective of the religion of the person who committed it. That is what I would also expect from good muslims and christains alike.
IslamRe: Islam Forbids Aggression Against Innocent People by somebody(f): 10:29pm On May 08, 2006
Whatever war George Bush is fighting is done for his country and not for his religion.
Christianity EtcRe: Da Vinci Code: A Lesson To Muslims by somebody(f): 10:18pm On May 08, 2006
@Logical- "According to the novel, Leonardo was a member of an ancient secret society called the "Priory of Sion" dedicated to preserving the "truths" that Jesus designated Mary Magdalene as His successor, that His message was about the celebration of the "sacred feminine," that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had children and that the Holy Grail of legend and lore is really Mary Magdalene, the "sacred feminine," the vessel who carried Jesus' children."

That goes against all what christains believe.
IslamRe: Islam Forbids Aggression Against Innocent People by somebody(f): 9:46pm On May 08, 2006
@ Ajisafe, I can never be a nobody, What I don't understand is why you keep insulting people who express their opinions. I urge you to spend your time thinking of constructive ways to help promote peace among your muslim brothers and sisters that have gone astray. What I expect from a sensible muslim(which is what I get from the ones I know) is that he/she speak up against the senseless killings of innocent people irrespective of the religion of the murderers.

Hi SeunO, I am not sure about the investment banking sector in Nigeria or USA. I think I have heard it is only IBTC involved in this sector(I may be wrong) in naija. However, i'll tell you what I know about this sector in the UK. It is very competitive to get into and would be very difficult for you as they would be unfamiliar with your uni. They happen to be very picky and take students from specific unis here. If you can, go for a masters in corporate finance or related areas in respected unis in the UK(You can research the schools these investment banks like). Some obvious ones are Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, LSE, Warwick, Cass, There is also a respected course at the University of Reading. It is an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking. I know for sure that your ICAN won't help you here-maybe in naija. If you are not ready to cough up the expensive fees I suggest you try to apply for a job at citibank lagos. There may be opportunities to get internal jobs in investment banking and asset management in other regions like the UK and America. I would also say that if you are interested in entering this sector in the UK then make sure your priority at uni now is to make a 2.1 or above.

I hope what I have written makes sense and would be of some help to you. Goodluck in whatever you decide to do.

@ Ajisafe-Osama and Zarqawi are the chicken hawks sending young boys to early graves while there are sitting their butts in hiding places. And what are these young boys promised in exchange for murdering women, kids and innocent pple belloti says muslims have no business killing. Seven virgins in paradise!!!I don't know why you keep on referring to the past atrocities by christains- face the present and the future. There is no freedom of speech again so we don't enrage the muslims. Na wa oh!!

@belloti, I think you are the only sensible muslim I have encountered on this forum. So I'll direct this question at you. Please, I would like to understand why practices like stoning women to death for adultery and cutting off hands for stealing are accepted in your religion. Thank you
