This is because they have evolved to have their own systems over time. So why can't HK be an independent country too? They have thier own Laws, political system, economic systems, etc. Why would they remain someone's territory/property forever? Like you said, people don't go fighting for lands stolen from them today. Traities or not, a region should not be anyone's "property" except they want to be. We have long moved pass that phase.

Where did I say they belong to the UK? Why are you attacking a stance I never even upheld. I said they should be allowed to decide if they want to return to China or not. A referendum is all it takes. The UK gave it to Scotland twice, Canada gave it to Quebec twice.

They are Hans and so they are choicelessly bound to follow China? Are there none Hans in China? Since when did cultural origin become factors used to mark territories? HK was originally part of China more than a century ago. This was a time when superior powers took territories by force. They amalgamated Nigeria, they made Alaska part of the US though it is within the Canadian boundary, they fought over Cameroon thus making it bilingual, etc. 100 years later, the countries, regions or territories formed by the these activities became independent and constituted sovereignty. None went back to what they used to be prior to colonization. HK deserves sovereignty like any other past colony. China's insistence on keeping HK as its territory even though it is not a part of mainland China is extending the act of colonialism to the present day and HK will still be independent one day, why push it forward?

HK has evolved and has overtime drifted from basic Chinese systems. Taking over leadership of a territory who's laws, political system, economic and education policies is quite different from yours without the concent of the the people is colonialism. Thus why I said the people of HK should decide.

As the for citizenship part, yes there are political undertones but should China start a trade war because the UK is offering citizenship to HK people who come forward on their own? If the UK says they are giving citizenship to any Nigerian that wants it, have they violated any Nigerian law?
