Yes sir, i didn't say you said otherwise.

The GK issue eh, hopefully, Rohr and his crew will get it right.

MetalJigsaw:
Oga we are saying the same thing. That's why I said he "COULD", and not he "WILL".

I think Shehu is not just a RB, he can play MD too.
MetalJigsaw:
Shehu now has more work to do to stay ahead of that Ebuehi guy. That guy is threatening and terrorising his first choice status very seriously... Shehu really needs to up his game in a more higher notch.

Sir, I got confused when he brought in PK argument. Dunno why he brought in that though.
Kog45:
Sir are we going for penalties at WC cos you and humility017 have entered another segment.

I don't think the two are better than Ajiboye when it comes to penalty but we want all round keeper not only penalty saver.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 5:02pm On Mar 01, 2018
One PK? Hmm not enough to rate him on.

To say Akpeyi is only better than Ezenwa in the area of PK sounds strange.

All the same, let the friendlies come so we see who's prepared among them.
Humility017:
I think one i could remember against south Africa....may be because he has not really been exposed to penalties like ezenwa...

ezenwa response on penalties from matches I have watched does not look convincing
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 4:59pm On Mar 01, 2018
Did you factor in the defenders of then and the ones we have now? Apart from the Argentine game which was a total shut down from him, wouldn't blame the other ones on him.

If it's by that, you know the amount of goals Ezenwa shipped in during the Wafu tourney in Ghana.

You said he's better with PKs, which PK did he keep out for us? Which one was conceded while he kept for us?
Humility017:
against Egypt, Algeria and every other time I have watch him play...he always concede goals.....
in that context ezenwa comes too.....but poor in penalties...
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 3:43pm On Mar 01, 2018
I don't get you. how many PKs has Akpeyi saved for us and when you say "always concede goals", how do you mean?

Humility017:
akpeyi always concede goals...that's his Achilles hills...
but way better on penalties than ezenwa...

Ezenwa and Ajiboye are both acrobatic.

Akpeyi and Uzoho are more of traditional.

Having seen much of Alampasu since he became professional to tag him.

Ederson and Ste ter gen are mixed.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 2:10pm On Mar 01, 2018
This best describe types of GKs.

Kog45:
Pls what is ttraditional goalkeeper?
Traditional goalkeepers are well balanced, normal goal keepers. They only dive when it’s necessary and most of the times they use both of their hands for holding the ball. Acrobatic goalkeepers are more acrobatic. That is they dive really well and have excellent reflexes. They have more chances in stopping ground shots and shots aimed at corners. But they won't hold onto the ball that often since they pull off one handed saves most of the times. They usually palm the ball away which allows the oppsition for a rebound shot.

Traditional GKs, they are well balanced, has fair overall in reflexes and diving and holds onto the ball more often since they pull off two handed saves most of the times.

Some examples for traditional goalkeepers are Petr Cech, Manuel Neur, Gianluigi Buffon etc. Joe Hart, Fraser Forster,Hugo Lloris etc would be the examples for acrobatic goalkeepers.

Coined from quora.

I just hope he's seeking help already and working on his flaws.
Mujtahida:
Walahi this is what I feel too. Regardless of how he's performed in the past. In fact l wanted to ask: what if Akpeyi turns out to be a savior? What then?

Akpeyi - Nigeria's midnight on Elms Street. The nightmare just begun.

But has anybody ever had a nightmare in the night that later ended as a sweet dream? I doubt
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow:
Issue is, we have two Ajiboyes already (Ezenwa and himself) so except we drop Ezenwa for him, I don't think it makes sense picking two acrobatic GKs with same attributes when we can mix it up.

One traditional GK
One acrobatic Gk
And one mixed GK

To me, barring any new name, I will stick to Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Uzoho except if any of the other 3 prove beyond doubt that they are better than these 3.

Mickael2:
that is the way it is. In the GK department all that is required is your ability to pull off top saves and your ability to distribute the ball well. Just because we said Maduka is playing for the U18 does not mean he is playing against the best U18s in Germany, if you are good as an U18 you go straight to the first team, he is playing against people who are still learning the drill, strikers who can barely make clean contact with the ball, if you ask me I'd rather take Ajiboye that atleast faces fierce drives from a 40-year old Rabiu Alli without blinking. Then you have Uzoho who is almost in the same dilemma, division Three, as in division one, two and three, that says it all.

He can make a difference (influence), that doesn't mean he can win a football match alone.

I repeat, it takes at least 7 players to win a football match, not 1 or even 2.
asha80:
the hype exists because one man can make a difference..there is a reason why at times an opponent focuses on stopping a player in a team because they realize the player makes the difference.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 10:13am On Mar 01, 2018
Most of our successful GKs actually went into first team football from the NPFL. Seems GKs are seen clearer from first team football in Africa than being 3rd choice in Europe.
Mickael2:
Future future future, the future of Goalkeepers is not written that way at all. Deportivo is still going out of their way to purchase goalkeepers showing lack of faith in their feeder team, so in 5years Uzoho's best position at Deportivo might still be a second choice or third choice, and presently no team wants him, is that the future? Or is it Alampasu? Personally these guys have gone through the academies abroad, I would have adviced them to come to Africa, look for a good team, maybe even a nigerian side frequently in the CCL and pitch their tent there. I mean Enyeama started from the local scene, Aiyenugba too. If we go through the history books we would see a lot of nigerian Gks who at one point or the other were first choice Gks for feeder teams all over Europe but how many of them got as far as Enyeama?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 10:09am On Mar 01, 2018
Well that's what he meant when I restated that no single player can be said to win or play a football match alone. Influence is different from actually winning on your own. If you like score 50 goals, if your defence and midfield refuse to do their part, you will concede 55 goals from your opponent. Just don't fancy the hype we always give individual players in a team sport like football.

You can limit the story of one person winning a match or game to sprint, table tennis (singles) or long tennis (singles), not football!

asha80:
nope it is what you think it is

I thought Alampasu kept goal against Porto?
tbaba1234:
I disagree.

Both keepers are rookies.. Alampasu has done nothing professionally. He is not at an age where he can be idle. Szczesny is an experienced keeper.

If it is about training with the first team, both players train with the first team regularly. Also Maduka has had competitive caps for the B team of Fortuna.

Alampasu only professional experience was in the division 3 in portugal which is not better than the level Maduka is playing in.

There is a reason why young keepers are loaned out or at least playing reserve football. They need the practise, they need the experience.

Thanks for this post, lets discuss and argue within context. He mentioned the 5 GKs already (Rohr), so until he mentions or remove any, we should discuss these 5 for now.
TheSuperNerd:
Uhmmmm... What is going on here? undecided

Abeg ooooo.... Make we no turn am to Alampasu vs Maduka biko....

See ehn... Me I rate Dele Alampasu very highly oooo... In fact, I still consider him slightly better than Uzoho in terms of "raw talent" but thing is, Uzoho seems to have overtaken him for now on the national front and even in club football (and he's developing at an fine rate) but Rohr still rates Alampasu too just as he rates Uzoho which is why he still talks about him in interviews when the GK issue is brought up.

In the long run and for the long term benefits of the team, I forsee a huge healthy battle between Uzoho and Alampasu for the Super Eagles no 1 shirt. Both have the height too apart from their special talents. Throw in rising talents like Akpan David udoh, Nwokolor and a few others like Okoye and one or two unknowns and we may be in for a new rise of quality gks for this new generation.

On Maduka Okoye, he is the newest kid on the block... Yet to experience life in the GWG camp so he is behind Alampasu on that front but truly he is on Rohr's radar but certainly not as one to compete for the no.1 slot ahead of Russia. Mbanu naa.....Abeg... Let us not misunderstand one another here on this GK issue. Biko I am begging una.... sad

For the future, the likes of Alampasu, Uzoho, Okoye, Nwokolor, Akpan David Udoh, etc will provide a fantastic pool of quality goalies with one or two among them hopefully becoming world class or near world class goalies....

But right now.... For this moment... We have the world cup in sight... And Rohr's mind is not made up yet but Akpeyi and Ezenwa are in the picture for now not forgetting Ajiboye.
And from among the talented rookies we have Uzoho and Alampasu in the picture too. Rumors of Maduka Okoye still lingers.....

Anything about the goalies is with respect to Russia right now..... Plsss take note. This is why it seems Rohr will not stretch himself so much but concentrate on the chosen options like Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Uzoho.... With Alampasu and Ajiboye also in the picture.

In the official provisional list of 35 for Russia, Rohr is expected to name 5 goalies abi? (I no dey talk of list for march friendlies ooo)

So let us limit ourselves to the five Rohr has his mind on. It is from among these five Rohr will pick his final three GKs.

Who are these five?

- Daniel Akpeyi

- Ikechukwu Ezenwa

- Francis Uzoho

- Dele Ajiboye

- Dele Alampasu

Outsider is Maduka Okoye coz of the rumors which may he true... EOD.

Let us not turn it into GK A vs Gk B battle... We just want the best 3 for now from among them for the sake of the world cup. Thank you

Meaning he didn't need the help of the other 10 players and the coaching staff to play or win?

I watched a documentary on the 1986 WC.. One of the widely held beliefs was that if you had put Maradona in any team in that WC, that team would have won the tournament. He was that good.

The argentina that won the WC in 1986 was an average team without Maradona.

Figurative it is. Influence and singlehandedly winning are 2 different words.

No matter how good or influential a person or player is, he can't on his own succeed in a team sport like football.
