Is this based on recent matches you watched or just an assumption? Some of you are just looking for ways to Echiejile, unfortunately for you lot, the buck stops at the coach's desk and from recent statements, Echiejile is in his plans.
He played all qualifiers except the Algerian own which was due to injuries, so there is no "past glory" talk here.
Idowu hasn't seen what Echiejile has seen in the SE, until then you cant even compare them.
Aina is good going forward but Echiejile is better defense wise. If you doubt me, watch the games both played for Nigeria of recent but with a neutral mind.
TheSuperNerd: Call it yank off if it makes you feel better but all I did was to give you the context under which Rohr mentions Echiejile. You don't expect Rohr to dispose of Echiejile who featured in all important games of the WC Qualifiers and who has been Rohr's no.1 LB since he took over.... It won't happen. And herein lies our dilemma, Echiejile is not the force he once was and he was never even spectacular as our LB but he was decent. But now even his decency has dropped. But as long as he plays, he will make the team to Russia based on one solid parameter.... "Experience" backed up by his contributions during the WC qualifiers.
But we all know that if we go by quality alone.... He stands no chance against Idowu and Aina.
In Mikel's role, who challenges his quality? Who?
In Victor Moses' nko?? Who naa?
But in Echiejile... His quality is called into question in the presence of Idowu and Aina without question. Finito.
But in all... He will be in Russia unless injury stops him (God forbid).... **And I kinda feel some hands smack me from behind for saying God Forbid...**
I asked a question, during the qualifiers, how many goals came from his side?
There is nothing you can say here that will influence the coach's decision. He's been playing LB for us for more than 10 years and if he was that bad, he would have been dropped since. You can't tell me we don't have LBs all over the world. For different coaches to be using him, they all can't be silly and Rohr isn't silly either. Until the coach sees him surplus to requirements, there is nothing we say here that will change anything.
Humility017: brother we are no longer living on the past. you will agree wit me...that during the qualifiers elderson was our weakest link in the defense....then he was even in Turkey...though from some of his club highlights posted here...he played below par most times.. why can't we fix it...fix this defensive problem by putting round peg in round hole...
presently you can't compare a player like Aina and elderson....forget this experience talk...his so called experience will keep him glued to the bench had it been he was in the English championship......
I am not sayn he should be dropped indescrimately but presently those guys- Aina and ebuehi all proved better at the moment
Funny you, you are trying to yank off Echiejile from the statement the coach made? Well na your comment and your opinion, the coach has spoken. He has mentioned the team's backbones in each position except the GK position which isn't clear.
If na by where person dey play, then Ezenwa should kick world cup bye bye because he hardly played club football for months.
TheSuperNerd: Looolll.... yeah... and Ola Aina and Idowu have been getting more games compared to Echiejile... Echiejile is ahead in that position based on his understanding of the team (due to his long stay with them) and his experience but by game time, we both know he is far behind. He is only just trying to pick up after his latest move.
Victor Moses and John Mikel Obi are undisputed certainties for Russia. But for Echiejile... the jury is still out until the final list is released.
Also take note of this Rohr comment....
"You have to respect what the former players have done in the past but be careful that you don't try to bring them back because people think so," Rohr continued.
That is for those who keep bringing up names like Dele Aiyenugba and co..... in the end, I just believe Rohr will pick the "best" for "the team"
Are you saying haven't had countless of superb performances from Echiejile in his sojourn with the SE? I believe you're not among the sigh sighted and short memory type of Nigerians out there. If it's by 45 mins, then no player in the SE color is bad.
TheSuperNerd: That full half performance came against a world class Argentina team. This is why it is such a big deal Monsieur... We saw Idowu's quality proven against one of the best teams in the world.... and against one of their top talents in Cristian Pavon.
It is the quality that can displace Echiejile... but when it comes down to experience, this is why Echiejile still edges and remains Rohr's no.1 and if what we say here do not matter outside NL then why do you also contribute and bother so much with commenting at all? loooolll....
Despite unconvincing showings from his goalkeepers, the Super Eagles gaffer has ruled out bringing new players into the team ahead of the showpiece Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has revealed his intention to stick with the players who earned Nigeria a ticket to the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
The Super Eagles will compete for honours when the competition begins in June - and they have been zone alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D.
And despite unconvincing displays by goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho coupled with the unavailability of first-choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, the German tactician has reinstated his decision not to bring in fresh legs ahead of the showpiece.
“We have built a good environment for the team and I believe all the players gave everything to secure the ticket to Russia," Rohr told BBC Sport . "It looks very impossible to get Carl Ikeme to play in Russia, but Ikechukwu Ezenwa showed in big matches so far that he can be in goal. “The young boy Uzoho had a great game against Argentina so I've sent the goalkeeper trainer to continue to provide support for this boy in Spain.
"We are not limited as we also have other goalkeepers like Akpeyi, Ajiboye and Alampasu in the team, so I believe we are fine."
"You have to respect what the former players have done in the past but be careful that you don't try to bring them back because people think so," Rohr continued.
"We have big experience in captain [John] Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and our left back Elderson who is now playing in Belgium.
"If we feel the need to strengthen this squad we know what to do because for nearly two years now we've had a good atmosphere so far. Another good news is that the young striker in Wolfsburg [Victor] Osimhen is also playing now.
"I will make the [provisional] squad based on this group and also give one of the CHAN boys a chance as well. "We can't just keep bringing in player after player when you already have those who have proven that they can do the job.”
The Super Eagles will have to navigate their way past Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D to make it to the knock-out stage.
A less than 45 mins performance can be used to displace years of service? Well I won't say much here since the coach is in charge. Most of what we type here stays here so why stress myself?
I know the decision is yet final and didn't say Echiejile is a confirmed started at LB, all depends on the coach, just trying to drum reality into the "Echiejile must not be in Russia crew".
BTW, all through the qualifiers, how many goals came from his side of the pitch? He's not the best but not the worst either.
Friendlies are coming and hopefully we will see more of these players before then (I mean the new boys).
TheSuperNerd: Lol... "another chance" is what it is because Idowu pulled off a power show in his first and only game for us good enough to displace Echiejile who has been solid for the most parts but also shaky in a couple of instances at LB. We have been exposed times without number due to Echiejile's slow deterioration in that role... and that brought out the best in Balogun each time (covering for Echiejile's huge lapses) making him (Balogun) make CAF's BEST XI in the WC qualifiers rounds TWICE... we cannot look past that so easily.
But as the player who manned the LB ROLE for all important games in our WC qualifiers games, it is certain that Rohr considers him first choice even after his recent move to Belgium second division. Rohr won't just throw away all that "Experience" naa... he has been in the game long before I was born to know far better than that.
Echiejile looks Russia-Bound but it is also down to the friendlies because Aina and Idowu are really knocking dangerously on Echiejile's door and both are playing at higher levels than Echiejile week in, week out and doing well... the case of the LB is not done and dusted my friend. Rohr is only giving respect to Elderson and for experience sake... in the end, Rohr will go with "the best" and if Echiejile meets up, then so be it.
I need to understand something, was it that Echiejile screwed up in his last match for us that people keep using the word "another chance"?
He missed some of our games based on injuries not because he performed woefully and got dropped.
All these "give him another chance" weird for my eyes. Thank God Rohr is closer to the players and will surely decide who fits his plans so all these tales we are posting and reading here will hardly count.
For those that read between the lines, we can all deduct from Rohr's statements those in his plans and those "not so sure". He mentions names and these names are surely in his plans.
TheSuperNerd: Not at all.... Shows the competition there and in the end, I believe Rohr will pick the "best" and "in-form" players for the fullback/wingback roles... And the easy way to solve this according to most here is "DROP ECHIEJILE" but that won't just happen without Rohr giving him another chance to prove his mettle.
Little part of my reply to you above shows why shaa... Rohr will pick from the likes of Echiejile, Aina, Ebuehi, Shehu, Idowu... And Mehn... I can relax on that one. Honestly....
When I say structure, I mean someone already operating.
I'm actually talking about the Alibaba type of loan.
This one is for one year and someone who hasn't started anything yet can't really survive well with such a loan because it takes an average of 2 years for a business to end in profit. (There are few exceptions but Alibaba won't be taking chances.)
Remember the wife is a seasoned banker so she will surely not let her husband give loans to people without structures.
amicable09: Lol. Did you say must surely? And you ended with 'Loan isn't for starters'
Anybody can request for loan and this anybody includes start ups. To request is one thing, to avail is another. Not to go too far, I said this particular revolving loan should be forever entrepreneurs who have started something but are looking for funds to argument working capital. That's when we can be sure the credit will be repaid.
People going for loan must surely have a structure on ground already, some are currently operating on a low budget so with the loan, they can expand. Loan isn't for starters, loan is for those already operating.
amicable09: Someone who is taking a N1mn loan first of all should not rent a shop!
I don't have any business plan in front of me to assess but I expect Alibaba to be wise enough to give the business plans to experts and bankers if he really wants to get his money back.
I know a lot of caterers who bake at home. Put show glass in front of their yards or distribute to tuckshops in schools and churches. They don't pay staff because their mothers and siblings assist them. Most of the expense they incur is very petty. Example, transportation to the market to buy raw materials and to deliver their stuff after baking/production.
It can be achieved as much as I know. I also don't expect someone who hasn't started anything of her own to take that revolving loan. It should be to enhance what you already have going for you.
Echiejile isn't in the SE based on quote system, might not be the best LB out there but the coaches surely know why they call on him. Are we saying over the years he's been in the SE, there hasn't been any LB in the world to replace him? If you're good, you will surely blow. Stars don't hide so until then, the coaches will keep using him.
Will he start all the matches at the world cup if picked? That I don't know, but for some to say he should be dropped, they surely know little about coaching.
soetanoreoluwa: Looking like coach favourite and maybe his experience is working for him...
Rohr don't wanna change his back four... And also depend on his tactics he want to deploy though
Only injuries and total loss of form will get him dropped.
And this is a bad thing? You see why Nigeria will never get good leaders? Because the followers are as bad as the leaders!
SensaGreene: None please. However, I'll say vio is the worst. One of the officers followed me to my kids school to pick them up before driving me to their yard, all in a bid to ensure I renew my papers that expired. Loooool.
From the interview above, you can deduct why I made such comment. Has nothing to do with "you Nigerians" except you are saying Rohr is Nigerian, sentimental and also taking sentiment over quality.
DrKlever: lol your opinion though. on what basis would you have Echiejile as your first choice LB. This is the problem with you guys in Nigeria. so much sentiment over quality. Go give Buhari a second term, you deserve whatever you're experiencing
Echiejile use friendly to redeem himself? You're talking about a player Rohr isn't ready to drop?
Sorry to disappoint you, he's only looking for a deputy for him and not replacing him except for injuries.
Danielnino00: This March friendlies could be the last chance for Akpeyi and Echijele to redeem themselves.... Unless Rohr is being sentimental or forced by some big men in the NFF....
You accused him of being the one who made us draw that game yet can't prove it. Why state what you can't prove?
It's like someone saying it was Ajiboye that made us not win CHAN final against morroco because we conceded 4 goals.
This thread is for objective comments filled with facts, evidence and proofs and those without any of these are challenged sir so I no go leave you alone.
I dey my house, come and beat me. Lol
PurpleHouse: Thats because you selected the ones that justifies your position... Oga leave me alone, i'm not here to prove anything to anybody.
The Nigeria we are seeing today is the Nigeria we all built.
Sad and bitter truth.
omooba969: I saw the video last night and my conclusion was of an arrogant civil servant. He heard & understood the questions put to him but he chose not to answer the critical ones.
Such is the character of public servants across the board, not just Magu.
Can't find the video, help us with one if you have it.
You made it sound like it was Aiyenugba that made us lose, yet these articles didn't even mention any incident of him. A bad display from a GK won't go unnoticed or undocumented.
PurpleHouse: 2011 in Abuja against Guinea for the 2012 AFCON Qualifiers. Game ended 2 : 2 after Dele fumbled our 2 goals lead to conceed 2 cheap n foolish goals. That was the last time he got a call up, because he was so poor that even the NFF blacklisted him. So what has now made him specail again? Because we need keeper? So we should just settle for anything? Y'all been revealing your sort of personalities as folks who settle for less - for just anything even when you could take the risk and have MORE!
I will search on YouTube to see these goals, then reply you

Both the police that took him to court and the whole legal people that worked on this illegal case.
Hearing and judging an illegal activity is sickening.
Nwodosis: Is prostitution not an illegal business in Nigeria? How come they have got the legal right to take their customers to the police to seek justice for their illegal business? Back to the matter, the man went in there and contracted the prostitute to have a discharge which is a round. A round of sex is independent of time and he can't be charged for an extra time! Must every man be an embarrassment like Miracle in BBNaija that cut short the viewing pleasure of his fans by discharging into Nina in seconds?
PurpleHouse: Is it not the same Dele Ayenugba we almost crucified some years back after some woeful performance made us lose out on the Nations Cup (I think)?
What has now made him special overnight? My dear agents and selfish family, UZOHO is the real deal! We should trust him with the duty and groom him now that he needs the experience to become even greater than Enyeama... Yes! Dude got what it takes to be great!
Look no further if we truly need a good keeper, not like Uzoho and Ezenwa can't understudy him. This guy is good, not that tall but not shorter than Ezenwa.
To me, I will go with Aiyenugba, Ezenwa and Uzoho to the world cup He's also a very good PK stopper.
During his days in Enyimba, he was always used to replace Enyeama when it's time for PK and he never disappoints.
Oasis007: Sir Tbaba1234...... pls try to be objective on this Keepers Issue. How many Ondoas are in the Team of our Opponents in the Group Stage?!
With the same Ondoa, Super Eagles made it to the World Cup while Cameroonians would be watching in their Homes. We are talking of World Cup, not a Continental Tournament.
Do you really expect Maduka to make the Cut at the Expense of the experienced ones?! Let's be frank here..... we do not need Maduka in the Team. Have we seen him played?!
I'm actually expecting you to be rooting for the Recall of an experienced Keeper in Dele not a Rookie in Maduka. Dudes were mentioning Alampasu, Uzoho, Akpeyi, now Maduka....... and we think we can conquer the World with these Keepers?!
World Cup ain't a Platform to sell Players to better Clubs, it's meant the proven Talents not upcoming Talents.
A video Clip of Dele Aiyenugba's performance in 2016/17
Div 2 Ejide over Aiyenugba of div 1 in the same country.
I hope Rohr is not being forced here.. well speculation is what I'm seeing.
Kog45: Kai is it another Ejide or the same Austin Ejide, wahala dey o,this guy was clubless just got a club in Isreal and funny enough division two and we have another experience keeper in Dele Aiyenugba doing it for many years in Isreali top league even till dates, but nobody reckon with him.
The only advantage Ejide had over Aiyenugba is height, nothing more better to throw in Francis Uzoho than recalling Ejide cos throughout his career in eagles he wasn't convincing enough to warrant all these accolades.
I think his agent is working hard for him to be included in WC team.
