Why is Satan Called the "father of lies"?

From the Bible account, did Satan lie? Were their eyes not opened? It was man's choice to make and it sounded too good to be true. Who would not want to be wise, knowing what is good and evil - be like God?

The Devil is subtil, we know, but is it true that he lied?
