Continue standing up to him. Plus you obviously haven't forgiven him. You need to ask yourself what you really want...a renewed marriage or you want out. Give him your terms and conditions including that he must learn to treat you with more respect. |

daisyjo: Thanks for your response. Nice to know you have attended some SNAP sessions. Having been in contact with SNAP in Durban as well as ASAP in Somerset West and recieved some trainings too, I recognize that its good starting point. There may however be a need to build on this a lot more... If you get what I mean. Speech and Behaviour therapy is a lot more that a couple of seminars and courses. You may want to contact the international center for Behaviour analysis (Ajah, lagos) if interested in more in depth training. My son is doing great now and fully mainstreamed. I currently have a team of 19 board certified therapists/ technicians with trainings in different holistic therapies to support him and the other kids under my agency. It takes a great heart to want to work with kids with different abilities and I commend you. Hi. I sent you a pm. You know when you suspect that there's something off about your kids but you don't know where to start. I was hoping you could give me some pointers. Thanks. |

analice107: My colleagues are adults already. But my David is still my baby, and I want him responsible and not be like my colleagues when he grows up. Maybe you are 20 or below. Maybe you grew up without being flogged or discipline in some ways. Keep in mind, am against abuse. But my parents flogged me. Not often though. But I wasn't spared anytime I misbehave and I DON'T REGRET HOW I TURN OUT TODAY. If I was flogged and I am kept in line, why should I not flog my David? I hope you are cool with the no flogging or spanking of kids in America which we are gradually adopting, and how their kids turn out against their Parents and against the society? No kid of mine talks back at me. I didn't do that and still can't do it to my parents even as a parent myself. If the family fails, the society breaks down. And the family system in has failed and the American society has broken down, it's a matter of time. None of that is coming into my home. You like most other spanking proponents assume that no spanking = no discipline/no boundaries. Far from it. It's actually easier to flog/spank the erring child and be done with it. But to think up punishments that reflect the real life consequences of a child's action, thus turning the moment into both a punishment and a teaching moment...that is the real Challenge, again, like I said guidance. Like the shepherd does to the sheep with his rod. And you say family system has failed and the American society has broken down, yet all you need in the American society is to have a green card/be a citizen and the society will do it's best to take care of you...that is not a failed system my dear. |
Family › Re: How Do You Handle A Stubborn Kid? by soopamom: 10:06am On Apr 20, 2016 |
analice107: Hello dear. The interpretation you gave of the use of rod in this context is not correct. Words are used in the Bible within contexts to convey a particular message, without which you'll miss the point. The context within which the rod is used here is not the same with the rod used in Psalm 23. Here we as parents are being admonished on how to raise responsible children who will take over from us when we are gone. And raising a responsible human being is not done lying down.
Amplified Bible Proverbs 23:13-14 Withhold not discipline from the child; for if you strike and punish him with the [reedlike] rod, he will not die. You shall whip him with the rod and deliver his life from Sheol (Hades, the place of the dead).
Have you see striking and whipping there? You don't gently prod a child and he dies. You shall whip him with a rod. (Although, not like an animal).
Amplified Bible Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
Even a foolish and mumu sheep is kept straight by the rod. Flogging a sheep to keep it in line doesn't kill a sheep.
Proverbs 19:18. Chastise thy son while there is still hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. When can we say there's still hope in a child? Do you indulge him and allow him grow then you start trying to bend him when he is grown?
I stand for discipline, but I stand against abuse.
There's away a child does something wrong but in trying to discipline and correct the child, we abuse the child. Discipline yes, Abuse No.
The best way to deal with a stubborn child is to start early. If you as a parent realize that this child will never do what he is asked to do, you do not indulge him, from year 1. If you need to take that toy from him, take that toy from him. Let him cry. He will throw all the tantrums, no Wahala, it's tears coming out of his eyes not blood. Children throw tantrums.
Don't wait for him to get to 3years before you start putting your foot out. You, as a parent know what's good for your kid, you don't let him decide what to wear, what to eat or what TV Chanel to watch, it's not yet time. That time will come, but it's not now. If you allow him to get to six, and you have not set your boundaries, as a parent you have failed.
Spanking with a cane(Not abuse pls) has its place. Let that be the last resort. Let David know from day1 that Mommy won't allow. He may hate you now, don't worry, he will come around. And make sure when he does anything right you praise him like a god, this will motivate him to do right more, because praise dey make humans feel like super men. Oh I know, but guess what?. I'm happy with this interpretation..but also going by your logic, the only way to open Davids deaf ears is by flogging him. How many of your subordinates at work do you flog when they do not take instructions from you? Or are children not deserving of the same respect that you would grant your fellow man? |

Wizkoko: Let me also refer you to proverbs 23:13-14: "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell."
My Brother, read your Bible well, and stop confusing people. I'm sure many people who saw your post will also go and confuse more people. Just rip the whole New Testament right out of your Bible. Proverbs 23:14 clearly states that striking the child with a rod will save his soul from hell. There is no need for a Savior. God's grace through Jesus Christ is not required for salvation. You and your rod can take care of that yourself. Now that Jesus is no longer part of the picture, we must return to a life under Law rather than under Grace. As the Law states, rebellious sons are to be stoned (Deuteronomy 21:18-21). This may be difficult for you as a parent to carry through with; however, the Bible demands it and we must be willing to do as God instructs |

VoteDemiladgold: Let's question the bible
Whoever that wrote that "spare the rod, spoil the child"
Come and answer the op and prove your point. Spare the rod, the first question is "what is a rod?" Now I'll refer you to psalm 23 " Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me" so it's a shepherds rod, which was used to gently guide the sheep. Not flog the sheep as most people assume. ...gentle guidance is what is needed, even from the Bible |

celineagnes: what on earth is going on in men's heads these days? a man should be allowed to abandon his child before its birth, but come along later for the fun part and still get to be part of it? surely if a man cares about his child at all, he watches over that child's mother? madness. yes i am sure i will get along a lot better without a stupid man in my life, which by the divorce statistics, a lot of women are finding. With your lack of recpect for your families, men are making yourselves redundant. Do your thing. The child is yours. Only remember to put the fathers name on the birth certificate, that's all you owe the child. QED. |

TONYE001: When our son was about three months old or so, he picked a favourite breast. If you offer him the other, he would decline..no matter how you pet him. We ended up feeding him his less preferred choice when he is between sleep and wakefulness.
This episode lasted for some two to three days.
I'm still marveled at his display of intelligence... He probably had an ear infection that made it difficult to suck from the other side or the other side had flow issues. No biggie |

Its not cut and dry. You need financial planning. Your husband just got a job. Can the job support you for a few more months? Can you spend a few more months with your mom? Please always place the welfare of your child above all else. Money is not everything. 3 months is really tender and if your "mind no gree" then trust your instincts. Goodluck. |

Reading all your other posts i can only say two things. 1. Do you have any friends that can help you? It doesnt matter , and its no longer about choice. You need therapy, you need to run out of that marriage if you have any love for your children. Seek help please. Youre being abused both physically and otherwise. |
Family › Re: My Baby Has Refused To Eat.please Help by soopamom: 7:29am On Jan 28, 2016 |
1. Was he eating before she stopped breastfeeding? I can assure you that it's very unlikely he will take any infant formula. There's nothing wrong with continuing to breastfeed though, I breastfed my child till he was 2 years plus. The only difference is he always had a healthy appetite . The child does need multivitamins but that won't solve your problem. You'll just have to keep trying till you stumble upon one thing that he really likes, that would be your starting point. With my child it was boiled and mashed fish... And I fed him that almost everyday till I started mixing other things in it. What does your wife eat often? Those are the flavours he will remember because the flavour of her food shows in her breastmilk. She should try to give him food from her plate while eating. Instead of making him his own plate, also giving him a spoon to feed himself while abandoning him with the food in a room will make him first play with the food but before you know it, he will eat. |

kovak: We have two kids - a girl (7) and a boy (5). Healthy and hyperactive kids!
My wife on the other hand happens to be temperamental and impatient with children. She's critical about everything the kids do. "What is wrong with you children?" she would usually scream. "You don't hear word"... The list of her rants is endless.
I don't like children living in an overtly restrictive and abusive environment, so I would often rise to correct my wife. Now, that becomes the beginning of another round of quarrel.
I know if she continues this way, the children may grow up to resent her. I don't want a dysfunctional family.
My question is this. How do I talk to my wife for her to have a change of heart?
Mature advice please. Have a parenting discussion with her. Explain your own parenting goals and get to know hers as well. Let her know how constant criticism can rob children of their self confidence. And blah blah it's a lot of things to say and I just got tired of typing... |
